    Carne asada Regular Burrito
    Eric B.

I decided to try a new burrito, and chose this spot but I am not too satisfied. It has potential because the flavor was good but lacked portions in meat and had too much rice. Also, when you hold the burrito it's kind of loose and not tight like some other burritos you get in the city. All in all, they have potential for a good burrito but it's just okay right now.

I ordered a chicken burrito bowl the chicken was completely raw and bloody with nasty smell i sadly had a bite into it and my appetite was ruined thinking about how nasty the smell and taste was makes my stomach move again! Ot was very nasty and ruined my dinner. Threw the whole thing away! You should just cook at your home and save your money on these places they don't even know how to cook meat and serves it raw!!! Wtaff!! This raw chicken got me sick as I think it had bacteria browth inside since it was not cooked through. I need to report this to health department now.

I tried my first mission burrito here! Came here for a late lunch and got the super burrito al pastor, carne asada fries, and two chorizo tacos. Everything was on point and so delicious; the fries were FRESH and hot I nearly burnt my tongue. The portions were pretty large, but we came hungry and was able to finish, though I may or may not have staggered out of there overly full. Reading some of the reviews on this page, I wish I had tried the chicken here... but gotta save something for a return trip!

This place slowly somehow became my default taqueria. I know there are propably not many people like me as the competition here is super tough as there are so many high quality options for Mexican Food in the Neighborhood. But this place opens very late, has a conitently good quality and very nice employee that really seem to love what they do. Also they do my favorite quesadilla. Also it is very easy to customize your order which I really like to do!

"You have to get tacos in the Mission!" - everyone I talked to I ate here 6 times while visiting SF LOL tacos, burritos, nachos, ALL GOOD + they have a lot of jarrito options

Super burrito al pastor. Tasted good, but was mostly rice, and 90% of the meat, beans, and avocado was concentrated in one spot.

World-renowned chef David Chang calls the super burrito here "the best he's ever eaten." FiveThirtyEight's national Burrito Bracket (which, by the way, saw San Francisco's own La Taqueria take home the Title of "America's Best Burrito" for its amazing Dorado-style super burritos) named this "the one that got away." Naturally, being a self-proclaimed burrito aficionado, I had to see for myself whether or not there was any truth to the claims that El Castillito makes the best burrito the city has to offer. Upon entry, you definitely notice the classic no-frills atmosphere characteristic of many spots in the Mission. I ordered the super burrito al pastor, which includes rice, beans, sour cream, sliced avocado, and cheese, along with the marinated pork. First observation: the burrito was large -- heavy, dense, and best of all, forearm-sized. Taste-wise, it was pretty solid as well; the al pastor was very tender and flavorful. What really took away from the experience, however, was that the ratio of the ingredients was completely off (see photo). The burrito was swamped with rice, with only a little bit of meat and beans, and to make matters worse, they were all sequestered in one spot. Same goes for the avocado -- while fresh, every slice was placed in the center, with none spread out anywhere else. It was a disappointment because the flavor was there... but not so much for the execution. Despite the mishap in the assembly, though, I'd definitely be willing to give this place another shot; if put together right, this place is worth your attention for sure.

Enchiladas pastor- dry super hard meat. My hecka rude Grubhub driver tossed my box around.

Looks like my enchiladas was banged around by my hecka rude Grubhub driver. Rice, salad, refried beans were on top of my enchiladas. The pastor was super hard and dry. Skip the enchiladas as it wasn't good at all and stick with the burritos. Skip the pastor and choose the other meat options.

This place looks nicer since my last visit. New booths, fast service. Some weird man still came in trying to sell me pens. Something about this location on Mission Street, as I've said previously, is always too sketch. But that's not this restaurant's fault. Steak fajitas came quickly and tasted great. They offered chips and salsa, but I wasn't in the mood today.

Being a native Bay Area person, I always heard about the burrito wars in San Francisco's Mission…read moreDistrict. Over the years I've found myself drawn to the other contender in the Mission way more than El Farolito, so I decided it was time to head back to try this legendary burrito shop. Getting to this location is super simple as we took BART and got off at the 24th Street Mission BART station and from there it's a very short walk of less than a block to get to El Farolito. Walking into the shop one is just slapped in the face with the beautiful smells of the carne asada cooking on the grill right by the door-it's wonderful. It's a modest place that you can definitely tell was built many years ago,so no overly modern amenities-this place cares about the food, not the ambiance. We ended up going with a couple of super burritos of Carne Asada ($11.25) & a regular burrito of Al Pastor($10.25) & also added two tacos one with Al Pastor and one with Carne Asada($4.75) They had beers at $4.75-so we grabbed a couple of Modelos. First the tacos-they were just ok,the tacos were crunchy and I don't know kind of gave Taco Bell vibes. Burritos though-that's a whole different animal. The burrito was so well made from the chew of the tortilla to the seasoning of the carne asada to the perfect balance and mix of all the other ingredients.I judge a burrito harshly if the mix isn't right and you don't get every ingredient in every bite and the mix at El Farolito was flawless. The price point was pretty impressive as well. In closing, El Farolito has always been in the mix as one of the top burrito spots in the Mission, and I can say with confidence that it's in my Top 2 in San Francisco currently. It's an incredible burrito and a true "must-visit" spot when visiting San Francisco. P.S. Just a slight heads up when visiting , it's not the safest neighborhood in the world, so just keep your head up when visiting-this is a place one visits for the food experience not the ambiance.

Even my picky eater, who wouldn't normally choose anything but meat and cheese, ate his as they come. The line here was long, but moved surprisingly fast, and our orders were still good and hot when we got back to our hotel. Street parking is a beast, just like anywhere else in this city. If I was looking to pack on several pounds, I'd eat here every day.

THE BEST food we ate in all of San Francisco!!!…read more This place is very popular and when we pulled up, the line went to the end of the block. Thankfully it moved quickly -- don't be deterred!!! The flow is very interesting-- you wait in line outside until you reach a small kiosk at the doorway. A hostess writes your order in hieroglyphics on server paper and you're given the stub with our order number. You're directed inside to the cashier, who double checks the order and you pay. You remain in the same line, but now you're in front of the assembly line of cooks (shout out Miguel!). The line leads to a hostess, who seats each guest in order. Once seated, you wait for your order to be called, grab you food, and eat. It's very orderly and extremely low stress. It would be utter chaos if guests had to find their own seating -- likely ruining everyone's experience. Instead, you can relax, hang out with others in line, and watch the chef's assembling burritos. The restaurant should be commended for such an efficient process! Onto the food... The carne asado burrito (dorado) is incredible! The meat is tender and salted perfectly. The beans are gooey and delicious. The guacamole is a bright and beautiful green and the taste is exceptional. There was sour cream too, but portioned perfectly to blend in with all the other flavors. The green salsa (the only salsa at the table) was perfectly balanced. I ordered a small horchata and it was overpriced (just shy of $5) and I wouldn't order it on my next visit. The whole experience was incredible and even with a huge line, we were in and out in less than an hour. Not bad at all for the best burritos we've ever had!!!

The hype is nonsense, waiting in line for a mediocre burrito is insane. It's just a basic burrito without rice, call it that. Don't get me wrong, it's a decent burrito but it's not the best and just average at most due to SF not having much competition in the Mexican food space compared to other parts of the Bay Area. The staff are incredible folks, limited seating. If you are a tourist and visiting, this ARE is the reason what outsiders think of SF - it smells, its dirty and grimey all the way. best of luck finding parking and props to you for standing in line while beggars harass you. If you are a tourist, you are better off finding better burritos in San Jose (if you don't mind the drive and safer) or Oakland (the best taquerias are in the more dangerous areas).
