This was my first time there. I had to park at the parking lot for Coco's because it was so full. We had to wait for about 5 minutes to be seated, not bad. It was way too crowded and super hot. I can't understand the 3 or less stars for this great place. Don't know what people expect for 10.00 per person in 2018 and seniors get 10% off besides and on Tuesdays seniors get buy 1 get 1 at 50%. This is me and my families "go to" buffet for nearly 5 years now. Nothing fancy or extraordinary about this place, just good and tasty chinese food for a reasonable price. Family favs are the stuffed mushrooms, cheese filled wontons, hot & sour soup, fried garlic shrimp and deep fried tilapia on Sundays. Food turnover is pretty average but I have yet to encounter an unfriendly or unattentive server. They're always refilling drinks or taking empty plates - without needing to ask! Cashiers and owners are by now friends of ours and will ask if the food was good or not (no complaints yet). This place is pretty good for lunch during the week. Can't beat the $8 or so price for lunch and a drink. But that's where it kind of ends. The restaurant itself is very outdated and could use a little more cleaning. Sometimes the table and seats are sticky. The furniture is cheap and dated but I guess it serves it's purpose. Food: I agree with a previous post about a very good Chinese food buffet place being rare. This one ranks between the good and very good range for us. I like the amount of sushi that they have to choose from. The kids like the chocolate fountain (of course) and my wife loves the seafood salad in the seashells. Good selection to choose from Service: If the employees seem upset or unfriendly, they are probably just having a bad day. Every time we have been here (probably about half a dozen times...?) the employees are very nice. They have always refilled our drinks and taken our plates away quickly. Perhaps it is because we tip...? Atmosphere: The biggest downside, for me, would be the atmosphere. It's kind of dark in some areas and it kind of feels like people are packed in to a small space. The floor may be a little dirty, but that is because it is from years of families with little kids stomping food into the floor. Overall: My wife and I go here with our kids all the time. I went to try the food there, and they have amazing food. The bad reviews here threw me off and I was really skeptical but I was looking for good buffets in San Diego and the Hotel I stayed in told me about this place. I love everything about this place. They have good service and they're clean. They have fresh Shrimp, juicy Steak, ribs, salmon, salty shrimp, salt and pepper crab, craw fish, lobster roll, fried squid, so many kinds of sushi, and salad bar, sweets bar, fruit bar, and chocolate Fountain. Also, there are so many other food for vegetarians. My kids loved the place too. I absolutely encourage you to go and visit this place. Trust me you won't regret going there. Chinese buffets come in good (common), bad (very common), and very good (rare). This wasn't anything to write home about, but at least the food is decent. For $9 at lunch it's on the high end, but you at least get a large selection even if the selections themselves are only ok. At least the turnover is quick enough so that most everything is decently fresh. If you're starving for large quantities of cheap chinese food, def go here. We went to this buffet late at night after a big day of traveling. It was so close to closing time there were only a few diners still in the restaurant but the very nice lady who was managing welcomed us in and re-opened the kitchen for our 4 person group! They were so attentive and we were so happy to be accommodated at the end of the day. We will definitely be coming back because we really enjoyed the food too! Fried banana was my personal favorite. We have been to this location many times since it first opened, it's gone down hill, nasty dirty.. The soy sauce has so much build-up on the lid that my husband picked it up with a napkin. The seats are all ripped and they try to sit you at the booth with the foam coming out..eww yuck.. The napkin dispenser had so much build-up..They are super pushy to get you out. My Husband told our son don't use the chocolate fountain, who knows what flew in it. My Mom is in the food service business and said can you imagine what the kitchen looks like..Don't plan on ever returning. read more

I like buffets, so I'm simply comparing to others that I have been to. I would give this more of a higher 3 stars but since that is not I'm option I just selected 4. The place overall is kept pretty clean. I do like the fact that they had a good amount of options and the food didn't seem like it had been sitting there. The only food that did seem like it was unattended was the sushi. The chocolate fountain was a big plus for me and my wife for sure. I am lucky enough to live only a couple of blocks from this place, so I am sure to come here all the time! The New Century Buffet is a typical Chinese buffet, but with (in my opinion) extraordinary food! There is a full spread, from (Americanized) Chinese food to Sushi to American food, including pizza and chicken noodle soup. While I like most of the food here, my favorites are the fried rice, the cream cheese wontons and the lobster rolls. In addition to my favorite items, I also like the egg drop soup, the wonton soup, the chicken dumplings, the sweet and sour chicken and the California rolls. Do be warned, though, that the food is a little greasy, so those that don't like oil may want to exercise caution. For the rest, I would recommend taking advantage of the buffet's to-go option, which allows for customers to fill a take-out box to their content and to be charged according to the weight (an option that is much easier on both the wallet and beltline!). read more
