The service is excellent - the servers are attentive and very willing to accommodate special requests for dietary restrictions. I am really sad to leave a 3-star review because I liked the buffet style, our waitress, the appetizers, and how fast the food came out. Basically I liked everything except for the sushi. As an Asian, I start making rice when I was a little girl using rice cooker. You cannot mess it up. However, the rice in the sushi was not fully cooked and was not soft - I could not enjoy my sushi because I was really disappointed with the texture of the rice. Also, some of rolls do not look like the pictures in the menu - my husband was very distracted by the appearance discrepancy. Dined here as a group on two recent occasions. We have been to this place before and just never left a review. We have liked this place for years, and loved that it has been consistently good! Yes, it is AYCE! Yes, it is in McHenry, IL! Yes, it has good quality fish! And yes, the variety of rolls is great and they all taste great! We ordered takeout tonight and had the crappiest dinner we've had. Hibachi chicken, Hibachi shrimp, Hibachi veggies, some yakasoba noodles, sushi, crab Rangoon and tempura veggies. The tempura veggies were decent. Everything else was terrible. They forgot an order of sushi,but everything was so awful we're never going back. The leftovers will be going in the trash tomorrow. Let's get a run down of the menu. 1) white fish sushi 2) shrimp sushi 3) squid sushi 4) egg sushi. If at any time in your life you see a Japanese restaurant that adds a "sushi" at the end instead of "nigiri", leave. If you ever see a place where they covert Tamago nigiri to "egg sushi", leave. A few things to say about this place. First of all I DoorDashed it and got the Dinner 3rolls 2pc which fed 2 of us for only 30 dollars it's a steal! I got crab Rangoon which is some of the best I have ever had! I also got mountain roll which was very good and my cousin got the California roll which was very good he also got crab nigiri which was good. Lastly I got the spicy tuna roll which was good but nothing special. The only reason I do not give it 5 stars is because I also ordered kimchi which was not very good. It was very watery and just not fresh. The presentation of the box was nice it was decorated a bit. Would recommend and will order again! read more

Flavorless and chewy. The rice was even bad. I finished the very mediocre gyoza, but literally had to spit out my sushi into my napkin toward the end and couldn't finish my meal. My wife was unable to eat a single piece. The fish didn't seem stale or spoiled, it was just bad. Never Again! I do not recommend- if you are not used to having fresh sushi- then you will be ok with this place, but I do not like my sushi to smell super fishy nor do I like the fish to feel sticky like it's warm. I have been to a few different all-you-can-eat sushi places and this one has a few hits and a few misses in comparison. PROS: On the positive side, I did not feel like they overloaded their sushi with rice. I think some places do that to get you full on the rice so you don't eat as much of the good stuff. Plus rice is cheaper than fish, obviously. So one point to Sushi King for serving up reasonably proportioned sushi. Another point goes to Sushi King for serving decent non-sushi dishes as well. We tried the miso soup, the "home" salad, the fried crab, and the sesame ball. All were fairly good, if not the best I've ever had. The sesame ball was a bit of a surprise, sweet and kind of dessert-like. I would have it again. Most importantly, the sushi itself seemed fresh and tasty, so there's that. CONS: When we arrived there was no real host. They didn't seem too organized about who among the waiting crowd they seated first. We were lucky enough to sit on the couch while we waited and took this time to fill out one of the order sheets. Our friends advised that it can take a long time to get your food so it was best to hand the waiter that sheet as soon as we were seated. Our knowledgeable friends also advised that we may only get waiter service the one time, so it was best to order everything we wanted to eat up front, instead of counting on round two, or three, or four... Once they did bring us our food, it was like a random selection of *some* of the things we wanted to eat. That is to say, a few of the items we ordered made it onto the tray, and others did not. None of the food was identified either, so I wasn't always sure it was even what we ordered at all for some of the rolls. Finally, they forgot our soups and salad altogether. My friend explained that you have a 50/50 shot of getting your full order at Sushi King. Therefore we had to fill out a second order sheet with things we had already asked for, hoping they would arrive this time around, and not in double the quantity we expected. Luckily we did not wind up with duplicate servings of anything because you must eat everything you order or else be charged for what you don't finish. CONCLUSION: There are some non-insignificant cons listed above, so why the 4 stars? As measured by the standard set by all-you-can-eat sushi places in general, this is pretty much a 4-star place. As long as you are not picky about your sushi and are the sort to eat all kinds, Sushi King is not a bad value for the money because the quality of the food ranks better than similar places. If you are more of a picky eater (will only eat cooked fish, won't eat mayo, only like tempura stuff), or you just reasonably expect to receive exactly what you ordered, this may not be the place for you. read more

Fish texture wasn't very good in most of the raw rolls, especially salmon, and their eel was a bit too mushy. I have noticed very inconsistent food. The last two times I went the seaweed in the rolls was so chewy I couldn't swallow it. I used to go here often but recently stopped due to the quality lacking. The rolls were super salty and they rarely put all of the ingredients in the rolls that the menu shows..they would leave out cucumber or avocado which completely changed the taste. My last and final visit I complained about the quality/chewiness..the manager said they did recently change the seaweed (which is why it is chewy...so they must have switched to something cheaper.) I'm not going there anymore. There's a great place in Algonquin called Kobe (next to Jewel-Osco)that offers all you can eat for the same price and tastes way better! read more

House salad - iceburg lettuce topped with a slice of cucumber, drenched with ginger dressing but flavorful. First plate - 14 pcs. sushi and 1 Yellow Tail Roll. It was good, the fish to rice ratio is perfect. The freshness of the fish is also just average. Second plate - 6 pcs. sushi and 1 Bolcano Roll. The roll is very good and perfect spiciness. Will definetely try for dinner with the family. Came for dinner AYCE $20.99. Few items added to dinner like deep fried oysters and chicken It's a good value for the quality of the fish they serve. Make sure you finish all items ordered because they charge you per peice if you do not. A group of friends and I have been coming here bi-weekly for a few years now for the all-you-can-eat sushi. The quality has ranged from okay to great, it really depends on the time you go. I've noticed that later during dinner time there is a much better chance of the sushi being fresh. A majority of the time however, it is good stuff, especially for the price and the sheer variety. Though the quality isn't always the greatest, it's nice to pay a set fee and get as much sushi as you want. The all you can eat menu also provides some good appetizers such as gyoza or edemame. The service is decent. They know my group and I by face now and seem to treat us a little worse since they know we will come back anyways, but it isn't much of a bother. Come here if looking for some decent sushi for a good price, just make sure its a bit later in the day. read more

I am nit used to the process if ordering sushi so I used the menu that was given to me first. No word or communication from the waitress. So, lunch could have cost me $5.00 less. well, I came again. But this tome I didn't see the small print that says that you must eat all the rice otherwise they will charge you extra $1.00 per sushi piece that you didn't eat. No, you cannot take it home. And no, they will not prepare more sushi for you if you don't eat everything. so be aware. Real good! I had the 21.00 all you can eat sushi. I ordered water to drink, it was good tasting filtered water as well. I should to have taken pix of the food.... Well presented, and fresh taste. You order the sushi and then it is prepared fresh. It is worth the wait!! Average amount to order 20-30 pieces if you are a hungry guy! Remember to order what you can eat as they up charge if you do not eat it all! It was no problem for me to eat it all! I wish they had more veggie roles on the 21.00 menu... It is all about the rice! The only thing I would change are the Valentine's Day decorations that have been hanging up for several months now. My friends and I visit this establishment frequently due to convenience, price, and our addictions to sushi. We always get the all-you-can-eat since we usually eat more than enough to get our money's worth. There are two separate all-you-can-eat menus: lunch or dinner. Personally, I tend to get the dinner all-you-can-eat because my favourite roll, the 'Crazy Monkey' is on it. For lunch all-you-can-eat, the price is $15.99 and for dinner it is $20.99. Absolutely love this place! From the outside it doesn't look like much because it's in a strip mall. But the inside is very nice, clean, and new looking. I think bathrooms tell a lot about a restaurant and theirs is nicely decorated and spotless! Now the food! Wow its amazing! I always get the sushi all you can eat lunch or dinner special. Sat at sushi bar. service was quick and polite. sushi chefs all appeared to be japanese, which I felt added to the authenticity of the japanese theme they are mostly successful at creating. the menu is interesting and you can tell they used a computer translator to creare the menu...calling the house salad "home" salad, which I thought was both cute and entertaining. there is a long list of appetizers on the AYCE menu which were were delicious and quickly delivered even though the were very busy. The sushi rolls were all fresh with great tasting fresh fish, perfectly tasting rice, and well balanced and proportioned ratios of fish, rice, and vegetables.
