I ordered three items for myself (Pork Fried Rice, Orange Chicken, Beef & Broccoli) and would have been full off of just one. A great neighborhood spot that's truly a hidden gem. I'm shocked this place doesn't have better reviews, as the quality and taste of food here is MUCH better than most Chinese American take out style restaurants in Seattle. Good portions, quick friendly service, and tasty comfort food-all cooked with well tenderized and marinated meat. This is actually one of the only restaurants that velvet their meat-a step most Chinese restaurants in Seattle skip. Depending on what you order, some dishes are prepared more authentic and home style than others. 1. Broccoli beef: well tenderized beef, good portion, good flavor. Good amount of sauce. 2. Honey walnut shrimp: lightly battered, decent sized shrimp, not over cooked. Wish they gave a bit more sauce, and a couple more pieces of shrimp. But overall, a good flavorful dish and decent portion. 3. Honey walnut chicken: good portion, but needed more sauce as it was a bit dry. The chicken is lightly coated in flour before being deep fried, vs dipped in a wet batter and then deep fried. I preferred the honey walnut shrimp to the chicken as it was a bit saucier. 4. Hand pulled noodles: really good and a must get! I am addicted to this dish! This is very much a homestyle/comfort dish. The super thick texture of the noodles are amazing and reminds me of something my grandma used to make. 5. Chicken chow mein: really good. The noodles used in this dish is a thicker cut Shanghai type style noodle vs egg noodles, and is prepared mildly saucy vs dry. Cooked simply, and well flavored. This came free as we ordered more than $45 pre-tax food. Would order again even without the offer. 6. Orange beef: large portion, well flavored, but wish they were a little more heavy handed with the sauce. 7. Curry chicken: large portion, heavy on the mixed vegetables (cabbage, broccoli), 2.5/5 spice level. Wish they added potatoes and coconut as I prefer Cantonese style curries. 8. Shrimp foo young: good portion, large shrimp is used, simple eggs and shrimp with some corn sprinkled in. It comes with a sauce that didn't interest me at all. A bit heavy handed on the salt (only ordered this one time), but the flavor is good. 9. Salt pepper prawns: good portion, they use prawns with the shells off and is lightly battered, great flavor, and good amount of heat. I'm not sure what entree comes with the rice, or if a rice comes complimentary after x dollars spent. We usually order 2-3 entrees and a noodle dish, and it comes with a super small container of rice. Definitely order more if you're into rice. I've only ordered from here a few times, and we were happy and satisfied each time. Looking forward to trying more dishes. This is definitely a take out only restaurant. Small mom and pop. The food is always fresh, quick, and the quantity is enough to give me leftovers for days. Do yourself a favor and get the hand-shaved noodles -- I usually get the shrimp or vegetarian. They are tender, soft, and flavorful. These are my FAVORITE menu item, and you will not regret ordering them. The honey walnut shrimp has large pieces of shrimp, fried with a sweet glaze over it and roasted walnuts on top. I can also recommend the moo shu shrimp. They delivered to me so fast that I honestly thought that the person delivering was the restaurant calling me to tell me to pick up my order. The food was delivered piping hot AND it was delicious! I had green barley noodles growing up as a kid and theirs were very good. Their shrimp was also good and not over cooked. I ordered the General Tso's chicken which I love, but always hesitate to order because sometimes at other places you get really tough pieces, but at New China Express, all the pieces were tender and good pieces of meat. I ordered three things and asked for "no carrots in anything." The gentlemen taking my order appeared to acknowledge me, although for a second I thought it sounded like a chuckle. I said "I'm allergic" to make sure it was clear what I asking for and to well... get no carrots because I'm allergic. I get home and the three things I ordered (even the wonton soup) ALL had carrots. I'm not so allergic that I can't eat around them, but I think a request as simple as that should be easily handled. Moo Shu beef- seriously this was borderline entirely cabbage. Sauce that came with it was tiny, enough for a single pancake. Egg rolls- ONLY CABBAGE! I ordered via Eat24 and my food arrived in 25 minutes. The delivery guy ended up at the opposite house . No idea why because the numbering is such that it is 6 less than mine so that was strange. I was honestly surprised as the food was decent. The chicken fried rice tasted good. It needed a drizzle of garlic salt. The prawn green curry that I ordered was greasy. Nevertheless I was mostly interested in the flavor, prawn and the veggies which was ok. Fyi its not the thai green curry. There was an ample amount of brocolli and wilted cabbage with a drizzle of mushroom and carrots. For 23.x a large portion of decent food was brought me to late night which did not upset my stomach. I would actually rate this place a zero if it were an option They put shrimp in one of the items and it's not listed as having shrimp on the website. My boyfriend is allergic and can't eat it. When I called the restaurant to have them fix it the first person couldn't comprehend what I was saying and he put another employee on the phone. I explained the situation a second time and she told me to pick the shrimp out. When I tried to explain why that wasn't an option she started yelling at me. Needless to say this was a terrible experience. To add insult to injury, my order had one measly piece of broccoli and they didn't provide silverware or napkins. While the food isn't incredible, it is very good, especially when you take into consideration their very reasonable prices. The only drawback I have found is their bland egg rolls. Disappointing. Ordered ahead to pick up. "Egg rolls" are "spring rolls". You should differentiate so people are clear on what they're orderng. Small rice is the size of a dixie cup. Food served in Styrofoam - kinda hard to keep warm in an oven, and not so good for the environment. Almond fried chicken in huge pieces vs. cut up, and the "sauce" like water. For Chinese takeout, New China Express is our #1 go-to. Their chicken dishes (sesame chicken, orange chicken, etc) are always solid. They're crispy, flavorful, and seemingly almost entirely white meat. I've ordered from here countless times and I've never once gotten a tough or mealy piece. My two other top favorites are the pork hand shaven noodles and the fried rice. The fried rice is the standard done well, but I've never had hand shaven noodles before. The noodles are thick and coated in a thin flavorful sauce. There's large pieces of fried egg, cabbage, and protein mixed throughout. That might not sound great but it's an extremely comforting dish and I find myself craving it a lot. We've never had an incorrect order, and they always have coupons for bonus items on grubhub. We tend to get our order delivered within 20 minutes of placing it, which is amazing, but we live quite close to the store so I think we're just lucky. We had New China Express last night, getting via delivery on EAT24. Our experience was very bad. We ordered the Moo Shu Veggie, Veggie Hand Shaven Noodle and the Veggie Fried Brown Rice. Additionally we got extra veggies for the hand shaven noodle. It's a good thing because even with the extra ($2.00 charge) it didn't have many veggies in it... Also vegetarians be warned. Despite saying the dishes were vegetarian friendly, we were pretty sure everything was cooked in chicken broth. Now onto the breakdown; Food Quality: Moo Shu Veggies: What New China means when they say veggies is greasy, wilted shredded cabbage. This was pretty much all there was (I wish I'd taken a pic) along with grease, 3 mushrooms, two tiny tiny tiny pieces of carrot and more grease. The pancakes were 3 weeks old stale and cold and served in styrofoam. The only two flavors outside of the plum sauce and grease were chicken broth and salt. WAY salty. Awful! We ate a little and threw it away. Veggie Hand Shaven Noodle: This was a little better than the moo shu. I ordered extra veggies which gave us an acceptable amount of veggies, but cost $2.00 extra. Not worth it. The noodles were nice, well cooked and homemade tasting, but again the stuff was swimming in oil and had no flavor except chicken broth and salt. All the colors were brown and pale grey. Awful too and inedible. Tons of egg, too much egg... Veggie Fried Brown Rice: Probably the best dish, but this isn't saying a lot. Also greasy and same flavor profile, chicken broth and salt. Terrible. Too few veggies and tons of egg. I will say that the food arrived quickly. The driver was not friendly or rude, just doing his job. All it meant for us was horrible food sooner. Will not be back... read more

If I could put zero stars, I would. Awful experience. There were 5 shrimp and like 8 cashews in the shrimp and cashews, egg rolls were just cabbage, general tso was dry and chewy, and you had to PAY for rice that fit in the palm of my hand. We had to go buy more rice. We called to complain about the lack of shrimp in the shrimp and cashews, they said there was no manager. They called back minutes later to say the cook said it was not possible that there were only 5 shrimp, never apologized, and never offered a solution (refund, replacement, etc). Terribly rude customer service and below mediocre food. Will never order again and I suggest you don't either. Literally worse experience ordering out ever and I love everything. read more
