I came here to try the vegan crepe and was very satisfied. I ordered the gardener which comes with raw kale, steamed broccoli, lightly roasted sweet potatoes, pesto, slivered almonds and some other goodies. It wasn't warm but it was very light and refreshing for brunch. My husband ordered the Apple crisp toast which was nice and hearty with thick cut toast, hazelnut butter, cashew butter, some really good granola, thinly sliced apples & goji berries. Maybe some other toddies on there too; it was very tasty. The coffees were also very good but not warm at all. There's a $1 upcharge for non dairy milk, which is kind of annoying considering the cappuccino did not have $1 with of almond milk in it lol but my husband said it was good. We also tried a breakfast cookie while we waiting on the food and it was very good as well. Our total was $40, which seems kind of high but the food was good, I'd definitely recommend. We got there right before noon thankfully because it got super busy. We sat outside and all the tables filled up and it became quite loud. Overall, great place though. This place is a vegan dream! Almost everything on their menu is vegan or can be made vegan. The food is fresh and completely made to order. The only reason I gave this place a 4/5 was the wait time. Ordered via UberEats 4/25 Lemon Zinger Pancakes to share, fluffy and zinggy. The lemon cream with the blueberries are fresh. Vegan breakfast sammie, the lentil sausage has a wonderful hint of spice and I do think they may have accidentally left the tofu off as there wasn't a piece of almond crusted tofu on it but I'm alright with it. The food here is amazing. I enjoyed their CB&J crepe, it has cashew butter and pears. It had wonderful texture and flavor, the granola gave it a very nice crunch. It was beautifully plated. I held off writing a review until I tried another one. Happy hour is every Thursday, 2-4 pm, half off. I decided to try the iced mocha latte this time. I was a bit concerned when I saw the chocolate sauce squeezed into my cup. I wasn't a fan of the iced mocha. There was a funny after taste. I've come here tons of times with my sister and we love it every time. The food is so delicious, tastes so healthy/fresh (not like its overly salty or greasy), and just so good. My mom and I were initially drawn to New General because I am gluten intolerant and they offer a ton of great options. Upon walking in, we were impressed with the minimalistic, Kanye West-esque decor. However, when we went to order, the woman serving us was extremely rude. When we asked questions about the menu, she gave us snarky responses which made the whole experience very awkward. I was so excited to try this place, but unfortunately I do not see myself coming back. I got an avocado toast with an iced latte which was $17 which I don't mind paying but it was slightly overpriced for what I received. The place itself is small and cute, lots of people however the service really lacked. I'm not sure if it was off day or because I'm not a regular but i felt like i wasn't getting a welcoming feeling and treated differently than others. When my food was placed on the table with out a single word or response to my thank you, when i left no "have a nice day" or "bye" even.. also, when the lady next to me received her food the server (who was different than mine so maybe that's why) was so sweet and even got her some silverware. A big part of the fun for me of Yelp is trying out new restaurants that have just opened. I normally love to share this experience with my girlfriend - but today at New General was unfortunately not a warm & fuzzy experience. Let's get into the good, the bad & the ugly. The good - this building is super aesthetically pleasing. Every inch is perfectly Instagram-able. They use locally sourced coffee (Lineage) and Kombucha (Humble Bumble). They also have a lot of beautiful clothes and other locally made items. The bad - we ordered two of their toasts, a cold brew and a tea. All together with tax & tip it was $35. A little steep for two pieces of bread and coffee IMO. The cashier was curt - not warm and friendly like I would expect, especially for a new restaurant. The food took forever.... until we realized they had forgotten about us and served several people who came in after us. The ugly - I asked my girlfriend to check with the cashier. She nicely asked the cashier how much longer our food would take and without hesitation she said "What did you order,?", my girlfriend told her and her response...? "My bad" - not an apology or anything and my girlfriend felt it was not only insincere but also disappointingly rude. Our food took another few minutes and when it was delivered she half heartedly apologized. The food itself was okay, but not worth the money. Unfortunately, we heard the cashier speak with another guest and said she was one of the owners which is even more disappointing. Owners of any establishment should pride themselves on their customer service and make sure their guests have a great experience. Needless to say, we won't be back. read more

When I visited I tried the lemon poppyseed bread and it was delicious. Not too sweet. The store portion has a plethora of clothes, household items, school supplies and other knick knacks. I am so excited about this new space!!! A little slice of hipster heaven in the otherwise vanilla Park Ave scene. Today I stopped in to check it out. I perused the boutique- really interesting things. There were a lot of baby/kid items, as well as bath/body/home goods. Everything is organic and natural and reasonably priced as those things go. I took a chai latte to-go. The clerk (possibly an owner?) took the time to show me the product and seemed very enthusiastic about the ingredients. It was delicious, and the service was efficient and friendly. They serve Lineage Coffee and (be still my heart) Buttermilk pastries!! Whaaat?! It's like the gods are conspiring to keep my weight up and my bank account low. They did have a full menu for lunch that looked pretty great. It's a very clean and modern cafe with great sunlight and cute merchandise. I purchased the hand soap after using it in the bathroom, and after using it a few times at home, I realized it's the exact same peppermint Castile soap that I can purchase at Publix or Target for 60% less. read more

Business partners Tracy Liffey and Christine Mitchell (who I'm excited to say are Northeastern babies like myself) combined their business acumen in both hospitality and corporate retail to bring us a sleek hybrid labeled as the New General; their take on a modern general store with retail, a cafe of freshly made food, and a coffee bar. Starting early at 7 AM you can walk up to their coffee window and grab a drink until 9 AM when the full shop opens. They are trying to leverage the local community where they can, so the coffee brewed is by Lineage, with the mocha provided by Peterbrooke Chocolate, and they even have some oh-so-popular Buttermilk Bakery goods on hand. When the full shop opens you can enjoy seating inside (or outside) and order from their breakfast menu which includes items prepared by their in-house chef like organic cashew yogurt, cauliflower hash, and seasonal toasts. For lunch they offer take away soups, salads, and sandwiches. The menu will continue to change as seasonality permits, and they will be sourcing fruits, vegetables and spices from the Winter Park Farmer's Market and getting seafood from Lombardi's. I really loved the turmeric latte I got! They have a lot of different milk options which was nice for someone like me who is lactose intolerant but also allergic to nuts. I got the blue majik latte and my fiancé got the matcha latte w/ vanilla sweetener. Both were good but blue majik isn't anything special...just get a coffee. Matcha latte was good though. I got the lemon poppy seed muffin and the mushroom avocado toast. If you like salty foods like me, you'll love the avocado toast. Super salty! I wish I would've paid more attention to the price tags but it was nice just walking around and taking everything in. Sort of a letdown. All of the previous reviews had given me some serious expectations about this store. It's a very small boutique out on Park Ave that fits the aesthetic of the area. It's cute. But maybe as expected, the prices of everything in the store are astronomical. There isn't much of a selection. I walked around the store for a few minutes, checking out price tags and putting them back as if I'd been burned. I couldn't even bring myself to get some of the food because the prices were pretty up there as well, and the options for food were lackluster. I think it fits the Winter Park scene, but in a way that doesn't really make it unique compared to other trendy spots in the area. read more

New General could easily be "that cool coffee shop" in L.A., Nashville or in Austin... but thankfully, we're lucky enough to have it in Winter Park. It's 1/3 coffee bar, 1/3 café and 1/3 general store. I've gotten to try a number of their offerings but to pick a favorite from each part of New General, I'd say that the iced honey latte is my favorite coffee that they make and is better than any Starbucks coffee you'll get. At one point, they were selling poké bowls which are my current obsession. I've also gotten a henley from them which is the softest shirt in my closet. They have a strong collection of goods in their store and are currently the only retailer in Orlando to carry Makr's products. If you haven't heard of Makr, look them up, they're legit. They also display artwork by local artists which is a nice added bonus. The owner(s) have really impeccable taste and I think that it's really cool that Winter Park can have a place that's as unique as New General. Only thing I wish they'd do is extend their hours a bit from 7am-4pm (every day, closed Mondays). It would be awesome if they could do 7am-7pm one day :) read more

I have been a longtime lover of New General. It is my go to anytime I need something to eat, a coffee, or just a cafe that I enjoy. Everything they make is amazing, my favorites are a lavender oat milk latte and the Gardner Crepe or Vegan Brekkie Sandwich. But nonetheless, everything is incredible and you cannot go wrong! I take everyone here when they are visiting or if I am grabbing a meal with friends or family I try to make New General the spot. I am now living abroad and I cannot wait to visit home and get my fill of New General. read more

I'm sorry but my time here was a mediocre experience at best. I think it is a cute little place but I did not like their food/drink. I tried the matcha tea and an earl grey but both were disappointing. The chicken avocado wrap was lackluster and the potato wedges had a thick coating of "seasoning" but still managed to remain mostly flavorless. I don't understand how that's even possible. The price for this was not worth it. You're paying for location and ambience, not necessarily a great quality meal. My boyfriend enjoyed a coffee here but that's about it! I usually don't write a review on a location until after I have been to the location more than once. This is an exception to my rule. When I rate a location, I rate it based on several things. Quality of product, cleanliness of the location, friendliness of the staff (besides the owner), overall experience, and honesty of the establishment towards consumers. This particular review is based on my one visit and might consequentially change when I re-visit the establishment. Conceptually, the location looks like it was designed by the same interior designer of Craft & Common. Which came first, I do not know but the color scheme inside is identical. They both have that super clean look inside sort of like walking inside an Apple store after they re-did all the interiors of all their stores. It doesn't look like a traditional coffee shop and when you look at the equipment they have for brewing coffee, it feels like you are not in a coffee shop, a real coffee shop. Now, this is not what makes a coffee shop a true coffee shop. What makes a coffee shop a true coffee shop is a barista which they have none. Just because you serve coffee doesn't make you a barista. Starbucks serves coffee and they are not baristas. I ordered a simple "Cafe con Leche" and it looked and tasted no different than my 5-year-old making me a "Cafe con Leche." It was substantial but it was served on a sophisticated drinking glass instead of a coffee cup which is the proper way to serve it. In addition, my credit card was declined. I had plenty of money on my credit card. I even showed the cashier that I had plenty of money on the credit card and still, it was declined so I paid with a different credit card. As far as Wi-Fi, it is practically none existent. I did several speed tests and took out my sniffer to see what the issue was and there is a limiter in place. I think the owner realized what I was doing and she came and started to talk to me which was very nice of her. She told me that she was limited by the internet company available but what she did not know was the fact that I am extremely aware of what is available in the area. Then she sort of told me in her own words that they don't want people sitting at their tables for hours and that is understandable but now you have the issue that you are lying to your customers by making them believe that you have internet. My experience was definitely not a good one. Although I did not have a good first experience, I will say what I really enjoyed. The place looked super clean including the bathrooms. The caliber of customers was upscale and very professional. They have a menu full of food items which I did not try but will on my next visit. But as for my first experience, I can not recommend it. It might change after my next visit, but it is a no for me for now. read more
