My boyfriend and i have been on the hunt for a legitimate, solid sushi/Japanese spot in the Boston area. Being from San Diego/Hawaii, great sushi was always an option. Not so much here in Boston-- until now. Granted, we haven't shelled out the $ for O Ya or Oishii but that's not what we're looking for. New Ginza is a clean, colorful restaurant in Watertown with a full bar, excellent sake choices and a complete menu. Everything we ordered was as desired and the service was excellent-- attentive and professional. The fish was fresh, the prep classy-- creative but not overwhelming nor distracting. We had tempura veg, steamed gyoza, a show-stealing sashimi sampler, a ton of homemade tamago, a veg roll, a spicy tuna hand roll and a spicy salmon hand roll. I might be forgetting something...oh yeah, the friend green tea ice cream :) mmm. (still might be forgetting something) Well, anyway it's the best sushi we've had thus far and we've been to most of the top Yelp spots in the Boston area, bar Fish Market. Highly recommended. I honestly have never had a bad dish or experience at New Ginza. I have tried multiple sushi dishes (most recently the samba crazy maki, amazing), pad thai, gyoza (I love it "fried" but really it's more steamed with a pan seared side, adds JUST enough crunch - had both the meat and vegetable kind), fried rice, orange chicken, Hot Stone Bibim Bab with Beef... that's all I can think of right now but literally EVERYTHING IS AMAZING. I've eaten there multiple times, it's always quiet. Service is really great; polite, attentive but not constantly in your face, timely. My order has always been correct for eating in, pick up orders and delivery orders. I tend to use GrubHub to place my order online but the times I've called I had a great experience as well. I could go on and on about this place but it's one of my favorites in the area. If you haven't already, give it a try! read more

BEST. SUSHI. EVER. the staff is friendly and attentive, the service is quick, and every menu item is to die for. i always order a few maki rolls (the goldfish and black dragon are my faves), the miso soup, and the udon noodles with the tempura shrimp. delicious. here, you really can't go wrong. read more

I've been here for dinner & take out, and love the sushi. My only complaints are that there isn't great parking in the area (of the two time I've been, once I could park across the street and the other I had to park on a residential street about 2 blocks away), and the waiting area is cramped (though it probably allows for more seats). read more

I used to come here quite a bit when i was in college. It's still just as good! Ordered our food for delivery and it came within the allotted time AND tasted amazing! Spicy tuna (so basic I know) was super yummy, and I can't recall the other roll we got but it was essentially spicy tuna roll with avocado and another fish rolled on top. Delish. New Ginza definitely has the best sushi in Watertown Mass. it's always fresh and fast. Delivery people are are always nice as well.

Used to be the best sushi in watertown but recently got new management and the food quality has greatly declined.

I've been here about a half dozen times and on the last trip I finally learned to stay away from the meals and stick with the sushi. The meals aren't terrible, the chicken is usually a bit dry and bland but edible, but the sushi is just so much better. I'm not a sushi snob but I recently strayed from California and Tuna Rolls for the first time to try some New Ginza specials and they were incredible. I, the girl who doesn't like cooked fish, was chowing down on huge pieces of raw fish that were shooting out of the various rolls. Granted the restaurant is on the expensive side (we usually walk out spending $65-75 for 2), but the rolls are so beautiful that you don't even want to eat them and so large that when you want to get them in your belly it takes a few minutes to figure out how to most efficiently attack them. Very disappointed. I ordered about $45 worth of food. I orders the crab Rangoon's, 2 pieces of salmon sushi avocado roll, and the Red Sox maki. The Red Sox Maki was big mistake. It does not taste good. I am a sushi lover and I could not eat this and had to give it to my dog. I was expecting regular sized maki but it came in these Very large pieces that you cannot fit into your mouth and would need to take many bites of. There is no detail about size description under the maki so I assumed it would be the typical size maki is served. The other food was good but NOT THE RED SOX MAKI. I called the restaurant and explained my situation. I asked for a refund on just the RED SOX maki (14.25) not the rest of the meal and the man I spoke to said he could give me a $7 credit next time I order (which is about half of the maki roll I couldn't eat) I am disappointed and expected a restaurant with high prices and delivery fees plus tip to value me as a customer and agree to refund food I could not eat because it didn't taste good read more

This review is based entirely on their customer/delivery service. Waiting over 2.5 hours for a delivery when my estimated time was 45-60 minutes is unacceptable. I placed my first call after 1 hour to check on the status of my dinner. I was told it was out for delivery and should arrive shortly. I placed my second call to New Ginza after waiting 2 hours from when I ordered my food. I was told to have patience and that I live far away - I live 15 minutes from New Ginza. During the second call, I asked if they could contact the driver to determine when he would be arriving - I was told he was definitely out for delivery with my order and there was no acknowledgement of the wait time, no explanation either. I order delivery from New Ginza at least three times a month. As much as I enjoy their food, It's safe to say they've lost my business. read more

No excuses for the Sukiyaki I had. It was a combo of beef, tofu, vegetables however while the sauce was passible the beef was not sliced thin as it should have been but were chunks of rubbery beef that were tasteless. This should be a delicate dish with thinly sliced beef in a simmering sauce that is more than soy sauce. I have eaten at New Ginza for years and was usually satisfied. New chef? I've been to New Ginza a few times because my daughter (4 year old) loves it. While it's a pretty good sushi place, it's very expensive, and it's menu is (surprisingly) almost the same as Ginza (Boston and Brookline). Since becoming a vegetarian, this has become my new favorite sushi restaurant. It's owned by the same owners, I hear, as the Ginzas in Boston and Brookline (my other favorite in Massachusetts is Brookline), but it is in Watertown, and -- more importantly -- it has vegetarian sushi. Try them all. They like a lot of cilantro in these delicacies, but they are so very good. It's great to be eating vegetarian sushi that isn't tamago. I'm a big sushi eater so this didn't impress me. I think that this place was overpriced. The quality of sushi was okay but the portions were smaller than I am used to. Everything tasted decent but it wasn't anything special. The service was mediocre and the girls seemed more interested in giggling and talking than actually taking care of their tables. This place seemed less authentic to me since everyone in there was speaking Chinese. read more

If you're looking for sushi in Watertown, New Ginza is probably your best bet. The fish is fresh and there's a decent selection of of makimono. The restaurant itself can get pretty busy - especially on weekends - so be prepared to wait (in a small waiting area). However, service is always with a smile and there's a pretty quick turnaround rate. Unfortunately, parking can be a bit tricky and I've recently noticed that they've increased their prices on their menu. For these prices, you might as well go to Fugakyu. You'll pay the same amount for better quality and larger portions... read more

I used to live right around the corner from this place and I regret that it took forever before I finally got in there. It is definitely delicious and probably the freshest sushi I have ever had - their philadelphia rolls are amazing! If you are going for dinner I would definitely suggest making a reservation, as they fill up fast, even on a weeknight (which is also a good sign). They have great sushi specials, not to mention a huge menu of Japanese food besides sushi (which I can't comment on because I just always get sushi). read more

I lived in Japan for 4 years, so I'm really picky about my sushi. This is great stuff -- just like their Chinatown location. My favorite thing is that they are one of the few place that will make my favorite off-the-menu maki (ume-shiso...heaven....). Having not been there in a year or so I thought the food & service was not impressive especially given the prices. The food is nothing to write home about although I remember positive experiences there in the past. Recently, I got the chirashi and it was not worth what I paid for. The amount of fish is minimal compared to the ample quantities I am used to at places like Sakurabana. We had the fried oysters for an appetizer and they were small and not very impressive. The salad however was yummy and I like their house dressing which seemed to have Kewpie, Japanese mayo, in it. I'll give it another try since it's one of the closest sushi places in relation to my house, but it probably won't be my first choice. read more

Instead, 30 mins after ordering online I got a call from the restaurant that the delivery person was "too busy" and they weren't going to be able to accommodate. You know how you drive by a place forever, maybe even hear good things from friends and say "we need to go there"...well finally after a number of years I made it to New Ginza last night. I had a wonderful dining companion - an old childhood friend that I just reconnected with. I was impressed with the array of offerings - their sushi menu was impressive, however, last night I had beef teriyaki which was really yummy! My old professor brought me here and he's been visiting this place for years!! We ordered almost all the Chef's specials (on the last page of the menu) and most of them were really good! Not a huge fan of the squid cocktail or mini volcano, but really enjoyed the yellowtail/duck/steamed scallops. The toro soup was a must try! I honestly didn't have cooked toro before (always had it as sashimi) and this was not disappointing! Server was very nice and price was very reasonable. This is my favorite sushi spot, although I have to admit its mostly out of loyalty to the amazing staff that works there. The owner is so nice- I almost feel like I'm cheating on him if I go anywhere else! When my mom- embarrassingly- told him my bf and I had just broken up, he kindly sent out fried ice cream for the whole table. The sushi is always yummy and fresh- the alligator roll is my go to- and they have a great steak teriyaki dish! The price is perfect and there is free street parking. read more
