    Chengdu Crispy Pork
    Yutin Z.

Really enjoyed everything my partner and I ordered here! Everything was full of flavor and were good portion sizes. We ordered: - Chengdu Crispy Pork - Scallion Pancake with Beef - Beef and Tripe in Chili Sauce - Mala Pot with Beef, Pork Belly, Fish Tofu, Black Fungus, Lotus Root, and Tofu Skin (medium spicy)

    Lamb w/Spicy Sauce. Delicious.

Everything was fantastic. Had the cucumber in spicy garlic sauce appetizer, a hot and sour soup (emphasis on the hot), and the lamb with spicy sauce. The lamb was falling off the bone it was so tender. Will be back. (After I eat the Chengdu spicy chicken that I got to take home for tomorrow).

That bacon cauliflower in chili oil though!! This place was a nice scrumptious surprise! My bf and I were craving Chinese food and dined here on a Sunday night. The restaurant located in Watertown square is nice and cozy with plenty of small tables. The nice waitress gave us time to look through their lengthy menu. It was really hard to decide since there are so many options but we finally decided on their pork in sweet soy sauce, scallion pancakes with beef their cauliflower and fried rice. The food came out nice and hot and packed with tons of flavor! Everything tasted fresh and cooked to perfection! To our surprise the cauliflower had big chunks of bacon and it was bathed in chili oil! YUM! The pork in soy sauce was also very good. The pork was tender and flavorful and the chunks of cucumber tasted fresh and were nice and crunchy. The scallion pancakes almost stole the spotlight from the cauliflower because the actual pancake dough tasted like a crunchy fried wonton! Yes! I love wontons! The portions are generous which was nice because we got to take lots of leftovers home! We will definitely be back!

Really impressed with the most recent offerings from this local Sichuan establishment. The fish stew with sour cabbage was a hit, a nice blend off Mala flavor, other spices, and broth. The flavor of the pickled veggies was focused and appealing. Something on special was the pork with dried bean curd and fresh bamboo shoots. The dish was well seasoned and the bamboo was particularly tender. The dried lotus slices in a Mala stir fry was excellent. It was nice to have crispy thin slices of lotus steeped in a rich and spicy Mala flavor. The appetizers were intriguing and delicious. The tendon flank and tripe slices were nicely flavored. There is a garlic richness that gently added to the dish. Also the slicing work on the green onions was very good. Finally the cellophane noodle dish with spicy sauce was really neat. I'd never had it before: it tasted a bit like gelatin. It really works well as a cold appetizer. In general I'd tone down the salt levels, especially of the main courses. Otherwise it was quite the meal!

Came here right when they opened and the restaurant remained pretty empty the whole time I was there so we were able to choose where to sit! The food is around 12-25 for any of the average dishes and the portions are reasonable. The quality was really good! The beef and tripe in chili oil was my favorite, top 3 I've had. I would definitely come back again :)

One of my favorite Szechuan food place in the area! We decided to dine-in tonight and the ambiance was calm and not too crowded which we enjoyed. We ordered spicy cucumber and wonton in chili oil to start, soooo good and tasty! We then had the chicken and beef chili with some Szechuan dry-style eggplant! Divine and rich in flavors!! Highly recommend and prices are affordable!

Pretty food stuff here. Chengdu spicy chicken was great. It's a small place, 8 tables, with public parking around the corner. Menu has all the Chengdu usual suspects. Waitress spoke English, or faked it pretty good. Prices were average for 2023. They don't ask you what spice level you want, which is good. Just order and don't be a kitty cat. It's spicy but do you want to live forever?

    Intestine

First of all, the duck blood was hard and smelly, but I didn't say anything because I had already received a refund. But then when I ate the fat intestines, a very strong smell of shit spread in my mouth, and I vomited. I didn't expect it would cause me so much damage! Don't order the Spicy Aromatic Pork Blood in this restaurant!

Best dry pot I've had in Massachusetts. I ordered "very hot" black fungus, fish tofu, tofu skin, lotus root, and string beans and I ate the whole thing in one sitting. Absolutely DELICIOUS and packed full of flavor. It may look oily, but there's so many complex, beautiful flavors cooked in. I really love that they have the perfect balance of spicy and vinegar-y, not sweet at all for us spicy lovers. Pricey but absolutely worthwhile. I also enjoyed my bowl of beef noodle soup, but I should've asked for it to be extra spicy because they do not skimp on peppercorns. Takeout was perfect - food was on time and packaged very nicely. I am utterly addicted and cannot wait to go back!!!

First of all, I love that they said on their website, "Americanized Chinese? We refuse!". That's awesome because I can totally relate to it w/ my restaurant. Lol. It's hard to cater to everyone's taste so the message and the execution is clear. I ordered dan dan mein, noodles w/ longhorn pepper w/ shredded beef (my fave!!), shredded pork w/ dry bean curd (sooo good and reminded me of my mother-in-law's cooking), beef and tripe in chili oil, wonton in chili oil (it's a clear numbing chili oil), and chengdu crispy spicy chicken. All of these dishes were very tasty, full burst of flavors and had just the right amount of saltiness that you just want to eat more. It's not overly salty like some Sichuan places that I have been to and it has that good wok toss flavors. What stood out to me were the stir fried duck blood and some other exotic items on the menu so I'll have to come back for those! P.S. Online ordering had some issue on the website when I tried to order online, the check out button did not show up at the end. Had to call in.

In early modern Britain and Ireland, the punishment for high treason was to be hanged, drawn and…read morequartered. I'll spare you most of the gory details of this punishment, which was meant to deter future traitors with its brutality, apart from the section in which the offender's entrails are burned before his eyes. Having eaten practically nothing all day, and after being turned away from Sanbada for an early closure, my date and I decided to try Mountain House, which she described as "authentic." Several mistakes were made. Principally, because my date is from Hunan, her definition of authenticity is not the kind of "spicy" Szechuan food I've come to love at restaurants like Noah's Kitchen. Instead, it compares to a 1599 incident in which the Jivaro people of modern-day Ecuador executed a corrupt Spanish governor by pouring molten gold down his throat. Starved, I ordered the La-Zi Chicken and shoveled two spoonfuls of it into my mouth, failing to note in the haze of hunger that the despite its name, the dish is at least 80% dried red chili peppers that have evidently been coated with military-grade pepper spray and subjected to a Satanic ritual to add to their flavor. Survivors of gunshot injuries on the battlefield report that because of the flood of intense adrenaline and psychological focus inherent to combat, they often don't feel a bullet wound at all until after the firefight is over. Indeed, for a few blissful seconds, my body communicated nothing but "ahh, food, finally," before lapsing into psychosomatic reenactments of various medieval punishments throughout the ages. As the intense stomach pains, sweating, and tears set in, I looked up to see the waiter, my torturer, standing beside the table. "You look like you're going through it," he grinned, rotating, I am sure, the handles of a rack just out of view. "This isn't even the spiciest thing on the menu, you know." The agony was hardly sufficient to smother my mental image of his same grin glimmering before the red light of dancing flames amid hot coals being shoveled down my throat. Reader, I survived, but just barely. Luckily, the same date who betrayed me to this fate is also a doctor who set two full bottles of Pepto-Bismol next to the couch where she instructed me to lay on my left side in the fetal position. Currently, my toilet is on a leave of absence while it is being treated for PTSD on an in-patient basis; I try to send it sympathy cards, but I don't think it will ever forgive me. Mountain House is not so much a restaurant as it is an experience of these historical events: it demands, like the best high school social studies teachers, that we do not shy away from history's horrors, but face them directly, so that in our humanity we choose definitively not to repeat them. I left these trials with a new appreciation for the suffering that people throughout history have been willing to subject one another to for political or social reasons, and thus recommend it with five stars for anyone who wishes to better understand the depths of human depravity.

Everytime we show up for dinner there is always alot of take out orders which is a good sign. There is one very nice waitress which runs around alot when the place is packed but she does a very good job of providing timely service to everyone. We really enjoy the hand pulled noodles which is a must every time we done in. They are cooked perfectly and are packed with flavor of whichever dish you choose them with. We also really enjoy their dry hot pot, especially the shrimp dry pot. It's a stir fry kind of dish packed with several veggies like red peppers, broccoli and much more! The soups are also very good and rich in flavor and are perfect for a chilly day. Some of them are served in a large portion so they are perfect for sharing. You really can't go wrong with any dish! The menu is insanely long and they have a code system for each item tagged with a letter and number which makes it easier to order. We really enjoy dining here and it's always fun to try a new dish from their large menu!

One that you had…read moreonce, one that eventually drifted apart due to whatever circumstances, and then finding each other again in the most unexpected moment and regaining that wonderful traction of a friendship all over again. Yes, I'm talking about food. It was once a tale of two spots. One in Watertown and one right here. As I resided in closer to the Watertown location since the move here, I frequented it and found solace in their dishes - absolute comfort food that was done very well. However, like all businesses, things change and eventually the business was sold. I knew there was a transition period and the owner and chefs stuck around to "train" the new owners. I hoped that the "good" would remain and that the new owners would continue the tradition of wonderfully curated dishes and keep the regulars coming back. Did it happen? No. I gave them about a month of repeated visits to gauge their level of culinary competence but it never came through. Long story short. I stopped going and that feeling of lost love began to fester. I didn't think much of it. I thought he had sold this place too since I've often overheard him saying how hard it was to run this business to his associates as he tried to satisfy every customer walking in the door or ringing the phone off the hook. So when I finally found a chance to be on this side of town, I decided to stop by and give it a shot. Maybe, maybe I thought, the new owners here would do a much better take on what they had taken over. What I didn't expect after placing an order was to see the owner walking out from the kitchen with dishes in hand to serve another table. Eyes wide open, I couldn't help but say, "HEY! Good to see you again." He in return showed the same look and smiled greeting me back with fondness and delight. That's when I spoke to the lady and asked more about the whole situation, wherein she explained how they sold the other place but kept this one. Regulars of the other spot now take the 15-20 minute drive just to come up here instead for a meal. I smiled. It made sense. They must have felt robbed when they went back after the place was sold. Food wasn't even remotely the same. Don't even talk about service either. Anyways, long story short, when the food came out. I felt this completeness return back to my soul. Here, once again, I felt home away from home. The food did me justice. The flavors impeccable. The culinary finesse was displayed thoroughly with each bite. So it is, once again, I found my long lost love again in Boston and can't wait to be here every single Sunday for a wonderful special meal that teleports me back to what "Home Tastes" like.

Let me preface this by saying I truly enjoy Asian cuisine, both authentic dishes from various regions and well done American Chinese food. I understand and appreciate the difference between the two. Unfortunately, this experience fell short on both fronts. Several reviews praise the pork fried rice, but what I received was simply rice, soy sauce, and a few bits of pork. Pork fried rice should have depth aromatics, egg, scallions, and proper wok flavor. This did not meet that standard. The General Gau's chicken was served cold and coated in a reddish, lightly spicy sauce, with the majority of the dish consisting of batter rather than chicken. It lacked texture, balance, and freshness. The soups were equally disappointing. The wonton soup tasted like a highly saturated version of the original, lacking real flavor and nuance. The egg drop soup was similar...flat and uninspired. I understand that American Chinese food is its own category, but even within that category, there are many establishments that execute it far better. This meal was not reflective of the praise it receives. I was genuinely looking forward to this lunch and left very disappointed. I hope the owners read this review and take it as constructive feedback. Chinese food is a delicacy for many people, myself included, and it deserves care, balance, and pride in execution. I truly hope the quality improves, because the potential could be there, but this visit missed the mark. I hope the owners review this post
