One of the reasons I was glad to be working back in Pensacola is this restaurant. It is one of my favorites. All of my orders have been delivery, so I can't comment on the physical restaurant. They have consistently provided great food, well-packaged with plenty of utensils and napkins. The black pepper beef short ribs are my favorite. I also like their house lo mein. It's all so good. The food and service was fantastic. I recommend the potstickers to start. It's hard to find a restaurant that does ma po tofu well--usually it's too oily. But the way it is served here was hearty yet not overwhelming. The fried rice was average, and the garlic vegetables were quite refreshing. Had a great time overall. How do the manage all that? Food: Fantastic! TONS of options for all palates. The bar is a great starting point, if you do that kind of thing. My wife's Pineapple Upside-Down Martini was amazing! And it just got better from there. Our table shared a sampling of dim sum & steamed buns, short ribs, & more and every appetizer was spectacular. The food is served hot (where applicable) and exceptionally fresh, like the kitchen knows they are preparing something special just for YOU. If it wasn't my father-in-law's duck or my brother-in-law's coconut curry, then it was the ginormous plate of General's Chicken my wife & I shared. Every plate was SENSATIONAL! The dining room is very spacious and you could even make reservations if you have a larger party. Finding good dim sum is always a challenge. Finding good dim sum that's served after brunch time is even harder. New Hong Kong serves dim sum during all their operating hours, and it is good! Shane was our server and he was very attentive, very knowledgeable, and very friendly. We really enjoyed our experience. The restaurant is clean, very nicely decorated, well arranged, and comfortable. We ordered a variety of dim sum including xiao long bao, bbq pork bun, pot stickers, and shu mai. We also ordered a couple of entrees like coconut chicken and pork lo mein. Lastly we enjoyed an order of Chinese garlic broccoli. All the food was delicious! I worked in a Szechuan restaurant in my younger years operated by top chefs and frequented by Jacque Papin. This restaurant was on par with that one for authenticity, food quality and ambiance. I thoroughly enjoyed my Kung Pau Chicken, Chicken Lo Mein, and Chicken fried rice. I asked the server for Ma (or MaLa) so my friend could experience it. I went back and ordered the eggplant and fried tofu and the bok choy. I also got an order of choy sum and the sticky rice with red bean. Next time I'll try the garlic spinach. The choy sum was good flavor wise, but I preferred the bok choy although both were good. I'll try both again to compare once more. A few of pieces of the bok choy pieces were too salty but overall it was great. They weren't so salty they were inedible. Ifbevery piece wasblike that it would be too much. Overall it was welll balanced with the salt and garlic. The bok choy was perfectly cooked too. I'd definitely get again. Staff is still friendly. This spot will most likely be a staple spot for me to visit based on my experience so far and the food. read more

This restaurant had everything! To start, our service was fantastic. We got the pot stickers, which we started eating before I could grab a picture. The sauce they come with is amazing! We also got the egg rolls which were crunchy and delicious. For our main courses, we shared the Mongolian beef and sesame chicken. Everything was so!! Good!! We also had green tea that comes out in the tea kettle with teacups for everyone. Our group had 3 people and we shared everything, with lots of leftovers. I make it a point yo go to New Hong Kong House whenever I fly out of Pensacola or have family arriving. The ambiance is spacious and comfortable with a separate bar area and plenty of roomy booths. The service is pleasant and professional whether I am with my adult family, the children, or alone. I am treated with respect and attention. On top of that, the food is terrific!! Atmosphere is very good. Comfortable booths, dim/accented lighting, high ceilings with a lot of nice decor. Bathrooms are very nice, well-stocked, and comfortable. There's some covered outdoor seating. They paid attention to the details here: the silverware is of good quality, the teapots are ceramic rather than metal, the menus have photos. Service was fine. We got the lunch bento and they came with surprisingly large bowls of soup, both the egg drop and hot and sour were a 4 out of 5. My partner got a pepper beef entree while I got the fried tofu and eggplant. His was described as "okay", but he's comparing that to his Chinese chef father's homemade version. My dish could have come with more tofu and considerably less sauce and it really needs to be eaten with white rice because otherwise it's much too much, just very sweet and very salty, and I found myself scraping much of the sauce off. They give you waaaay more sweet and sour than you could possibly use on the singular egg/spring roll they give you, and I wasn't crazy about the unsolicited addition of a dumpling, considering it contained pork, which I don't eat (I'd rather a second spring roll). The rolls themselves were small but tasty. Sweet and sour was standard fare. We were both surprised that the "Chinese kimchi" was a sweet, rather than spicy, sort of quick pickle--neither of us have had a "Chinese kimchi" dish before anything like this. It tasted very similar to a less creamy southern coleslaw. Honestly, I enjoyed it, though not as expected, but my partner didn't care for it at all. Fried rice was fairly disappointing. I've been spoiled on my partner and his father's versions, but even compared to other standard fried rice sides this just wasn't very good. It lacked the crunchy onion bits I favor and contained some of the chalkiest peas I think I've ever had. The texture wasn't particularly "fried". I'd skip it in the future. We'll give them another go so we can try some of the more traditional offerings or dim sum dishes, since it's typical for the more American staples to lean sweet and oversauced. I'd suggest they take a little more time on the basics like the fried rice. read more

This was my first time trying dim sum. This place was amazing! Everything we tried was delicious. We tried the steamed dumplings, xiao long bao, bbq pork buns, black pepper short ribs, and for dessert pumpkin cake with red beans, and the assortment of mini milk buns. It was all delicious. The xiao long bao were so good we got a second order. The restaurant was clean and the decor is beautiful. Our waitress was so kind and patient with any questions that we asked. Hubby & I were very excited to try this place when it first opened. The Taiwanese restaurant that was here b4 was not that great & it closed. So next up, "New Hong Kong house" opened. I used to Live in Hong Kong so I was STOKED!!! Hubby works in Hong Kong sometimes so he was also STOKED!!! Stoked I tell ya, we were stoked !!! Well, one day when they just opened, hubby & I got takeout. The lo mein here has way way too much cabbage & veggies & not enough proteins. Making it way too wet & it had no flavor. just a soggy wet mess. The general Tso's was so overly sweet we tossed it in the garbage & the crab rangoon we got was stale & fishy. Chinese takeout from a new place is hit or miss anyway so we didn't think much of it & went back to our usual place, Chef King the Red dragon. She is also from Taiwan & hardly speaks english so "Chef King" is legit FYI. Anyway, that particular same week we went to Toyko Japanese across town for some sushi. We actually went 2 or 3 days in a row bc I was getting the "behind scenes low-down" from Chef Jay. Chef Jay was working the Sushi bar & we were talking about the "New Hong Kong House" that just opened & we had a bad experience there with the takeout. Well, long story short, he told us that he also went there & they served him all pre-packaged foods. That they are serving pre-packaged foods. Chef Jay told us that if he wants Chinese, he will get his mom to make it for him, Not "New Hong Kong House" we totally agreed with him, we want his mom to make us good Chinese food also. hahaha. Hands down the best Chinese restaurant in Pensacola. They have all the delicious classics that you'd expect to see at any American Chinese restaurant and some of the authentic dishes that you'd expect out of a high end "real" Chinese restaurant. The wait staff were very helpful in describing some of the dishes we'd never had before and assisting us with portion control seeing as how we were going "family style" and just ordering a bunch of different dishes for people to pick off. We started with the egg rolls, and they weren't loaded down with cabbage or soggy, they were perfect! The shrimp fried rice had tons of shrimp!
