Tried this place out for the first time tonight. After being seated sat almost 15 minutes before server returned to our area. You know a restaurant is great when you look forward to your leftovers. Chicken Makhani. Aloo saag. Perfect naan. I came home from work a couple nights ago super hungry with a hankering for Indian food. Specifically, boneless chicken in a creamy sauce. I ordered on Skip the Dishes for a pickup order, since New India is quite close by. I got to the restaurant at the suggested time, and they said... they didn't have a Skip the Dishes order! I was flustered, I was terrified! I almost started crying! (I was REALLY hungry). Now, I don't know if it was New India's fault, or Skip the Dishes, and I really don't care... BECAUSE New India stepped up to the plate and made my order within 8 minutes. I got it home, thinking it probably wouldn't be great, since it was thrown together hurriedly and near closing when all this happened... BUT WOW. They did it again--made something delicious, filling, and spicy. I've had New India twice within the past two weeks, and each time was amazing (I admit, this time was a bit less spicy than I would have liked, but I did present in person before they made the food). I've been on a hiatus from this restaurant for quite some time, but used to go often years ago. I swear their food is even better. I showed the woman my receipt from Skip the Dishes, and with no argument, they let me carry the food out. [I docked a star in case it was their fault that they didn't make the order, but let us let bygones be bygones. This restaurant will not give you the service you would expect when you use Groupon. Girls at this restaurant are really not professional, they will treat you as an uninvited guest when you enter specially if you are DESI, it's fine for them if you are non desi. I have been billed a huge tax + gratuity on my dinner (not just a single time, but two times), I asked them and found it was nothing but tax when you apply any coupon and eat in, I paid by credit card and found thi was billed as TIP, yes TIP it was total bill less tax, tax part was mentioned as TIP, this thing I came to know when I was on the way to home, and never went back to this palce. This is the best Indian food in Columbus. I currently live in Cleveland, but whenever I go to Columbus to visit my family, New India is a MUST. There is nothing like this in Cleveland. If you go, definitely order the Chicken Tiki Masala or Paneer Tiki Masala. It's creamy, rich and flavorful. Chicken Curry is delicious as well, and you really can't go wrong with the appetizers. I will say the staff isn't overly friendly, but they also aren't rude or mean. They tend to you often and your water glass is never empty. It's a great place to eat! read more

We had been to this place several times. It has the best vegetable biryani. The other dishes are also fine.The place is cozy with light music in the background from bollywood movies, and perfect for a couple or family to have a good time. This place is worst, I was there with my family today, we ordered veg platter first. After 2 minutes my order came. It was little surprise as it was so quick. My wife took samosa to start eating and found that cover if samosa was almost Dough and not cooked not even properly but totally raw. We called to server and manager that what type of food they are serving so she started telling that it never happened like I was lying even I was showing that dough. They even not said any sorry and no apology. When we asked that we can't eat here, they were more rude on us. For the price and quality you just can not find much better. Service was great!!! And they have a buffet so it is all you can eat for a small price. Unbeatable, and the set up is nice too. 2 families went to this joint on Friday, April 22, 2011 around 1:30 PM. None of us work for any of the competitors. As we walked in and waited to be a seated, a young lady with the most unhappy face on earth, asked us to "take a seat" from BEHIND the counter. Hello? Have you guys ever heard of the phrases "customer service" and "hospitality"? The rude behavior did not end there. For the rest of our meal, no one came over to check on us or ask us if we need anything. I had to call them to get my glass of water refilled. The appetizer was so cold and tasteless that it had to be last night's leftovers. The main course was edible but nothing to exclaim about. I am not sure why the waiters acted like first class bit*hes, probably because we were there for a $7 buffet which did not add much to their already fat wallets. My experience in this Indian restaurant is terrible. The quality of food is poor. Waitress is very unprofessional unfriendly and I felt like they are not ready to welcome guests. I went to the buffet around 1:30 and although the buffet is on till 2:00pm they never filled up the food trays. Specially jelabis tasted old and they were not crunchy. After his first bite, my son said "I'm a fan!" This was our first outing for Indian cuisine. I appreciated being told our options for the entree spices being "mild, medium or hot". We went with mild & the food was delicious! I especially enjoyed the coconut soup! Also, the portions were just right but I did end up bringing some of my lamb Korma home with me because I ate the soup and samosas first and was getting full! Great Northern Indian cuisine! The atmosphere is homey. We are regulars at New India, and feel comfortable there, not to mention the great vegetarian (and non-vegetarian) options. I especially like the aloo vindaloo (potatoes in a spicy red sauce). There are several types of naan as well. I'd never had the naan stuffed with potatoes. It was like a whole meal in of itself. I think that the food is excellent, better than Taj Mahal and the rest of them but the service is fine.....they always keep your water glass full and they always are there for you.....What do people want from some very humble and nice people who aren' t constantly pestering you while you eat? I don' t enjoy servers who are constantly interrupting a nice meal to talk your ear off. I have been to this restaurant about six times. When I first moved to Columbus, someone gave me a free Entertainment book and that is initially how we discovered them. Unfortunately, when I have taken others there, the service has been poor. I have discovered about 13 other Indian restaurants I like more so unless I am on Bethel Rd., I rarely visit New India. Again, someone gave me an Entertainment book and I decided to take people in as we were celebrating a birthday. They made an error on my dish, charged me more and blew it off, we had to ask for water, and they didn't accept our Entertainment coupon, stating they were feuding with the Entertainment Book Company yet nothing was posted. This was nothing compared to the women's bathroom that had feces all over the toilet (the front, seat, back of the seat, etc.., and it was dried as it was there for awhile) plus the light switch plate was complete with numerous black, dirty fingerprints and hadn't been cleaned in who knows how long. This restaurant is dangerous at best with sanitation issues and just sad with service. The food isn't too bad but you never know the sanitation in the kitchen. Gross! read more
