First timer. Ordered takeout consisting of vegetable platter and chicken pikora. I was afraid the pikora would be too spicy but it surprisingly was not. The problem was that there was hardly any flavor at all. It looked great though if that counts for anything. The vegetable platter was actually delicious. I gave three stars (which may change in the future if I come back here and have a different experience) because I didn't really feel welcome when I came in. I think it is rude if I have my hand out to grab my takeout bag and you deliberately place it on a table behind me instead of in my hand. I checked out New India for their NYE Buffet (with complimentary wine?! SOLD) with some friends. There were quite a few options on the buffet, many of which I've never tried, and although it was tasty, it's not my favorite Indian in Columbus. I have had today the worst dining experience in my life. The Yelp entry says it's quiet - the Muzak was Indian all right, but it was a monotonous chant, I suppose the lyrics were different. Monotony may be useful for prayer, it is not conducive to dining. Nothing but annoying. There was a lot of food, it tasted ok, but the whole ambiance was flat, perfunctory. The tea didn't look like tea, it was bland, and, committing the worst sin in all of Asian cuisine, it was lukewarm. The tea was not hot. In the bins holding the utensils at the buffet line, there were forks, and no spoons but serving spoons. I needed another utensil, a dinner spoon would be appropriate. Who puts a serving spoon at a place setting? No knives - I took a piece of chicken, not knowing there was a bone in there, there was so much sauce on it. But there was no knife to cut it. So I was reduced to pulling a chicken bone out of my mouth with my fingers. The signs at each dish were not legible, so I didn't know it was chicken. Sloppy at every turn. Lukewarm tea. read more

The restaurant has a confused decor. Plastic stars on the ceiling, a very Italian themed Bar area. Delivery pick up drivers have to track through the restaurant to pick up there orders which definitely impacts the dining experience. They are quite proud of their "top 3 rating" The food was amazing, but the prices and the atmosphere really weren't inviting. A large portion of their menu is not available before 5pm so I stuck with Naan and appetizers. The chicken dippers were quite tiny, the appetizer sampler provided quite a diverse group of dishes. A crispy vegetable samosa, aloo tikki (sans chutney), the best Onion Bhaji I have found in town and a delicious paneer pakora. When I pointed out that two of the dishes I sampled are shown on the menu with chutney, I was told that it was catsup and would have to pay for chutney. I ordered through door dash and the food was delicious! We ordered mattar paneer that was so flavorful, and shrimp curry which we added mushrooms too- very much recommended. We ordered vegetable pakora and received vegetable samosas instead, but they were so good I didn't care! Order came with a little dessert piece for free and a sweet hand written note. My husband and I loved this place before, but a business's customer service is as important to us as their food/services/product. We did carryout. ChowNow ordering from their website was very easy and intuitive. My mother-in-law was visiting from out of town and wanted to treat us all but didn't want to create a ChowNow account - I was easily able to use my account and add her credit card for this order only. We were even able to select a future pick-up time. My husband went to pick it up and it was promptly ready and wrapped well for safe transport. Food was incredible! We got mostly vegan and vegetarian dishes except chicken Makhani (butter chicken) for the kids. The dishes we tried included Punjabi Bahji, Saag Paneer, Paneer Pakora (one of out new favorites - lightly battered deep friend cheese?!? My daughter's pupils dilated when she took her first bite LOL), Vegetable Pakora (my other daughter's favorite) Mushroom Saag, Naan, Roti and Mango Lassis. Everyone delighted in trying all of the dishes and we still have lunch leftovers for tomorrow. :P Foods were perfectly balanced with salt, sweet, fats and vegetables. All of the aromatics combined with all types of textures - crunchy fried items were somehow not greasy or soggy - even though they had traveled. The naan had the perfect pull and chew, not overly doughy but just right. We emerged from our time together at the table satisfied with full bellies and minimal clean-up. Had delivery for lunch today. Nothing about the food is 'bad' it's just not my cup of tea. I do enjoy Aab, Awadh, and Sargam (in Reynoldsburg) so those are more what I'm looking for flavor-wise. The garlic naan was super thin and was mostly parsley, rather than garlic. The basmati rice that came with my meal seemed SUPER over-buttered and the chicken vindaloo had a flavor profile that I wasn't expecting. Full disclosure, my order at Indian restaurants is always chicken vindaloo so I do have a basis for comparison. We had the most amazing carry out meal tonight from New India. We ordered online for curbside pick up and it was so easy and safe. All of our food was beyond delicious. This is our new favorite place! We started with the house special platter and, to be honest, they would have gotten a five-star rating on that alone! I put the mint chutney on everything! My husband loved the samosa. We shared the bread basket, chicken tikka saag, and aloo choley. The chicken tikka saag was absolutely delicious! They topped off our meal with gulab jamun which she described as like a pancake ball soaked in syrup, but it was more interesting and nuanced than that. The best chicken curry in the city. I'm a regular and have tried other dishes as well, but curry is how I judge an Indian restaurant and it's fantastic here. I usually order it hot, but medium is a solid choice as well. Extra hot is there for those adventures... why would you order mild if you're ordering Indian food? The naan and samosa are quality, and my wife has enjoyed multiple other entrees she's tried. The delivery is always quick and hot, you really couldn't ask for more. Highly recommended! read more

Place looks like a dump inside (and on the outside) but do not be fooled! Columbus in 2019 is overflowing with Indian restaurants that range from low key to five-star and modern, but this restaurant's food is the best of them all. I have tried so many things on their menu from Aloo Gobi to Saag Paneer to Chili Paneer to Paneer Makhani and none of them lacked flavor or were overly creamy to the point where that's all you could taste. That's usually my biggest problem with Indian restaurants - every masala dish tastes the same because they use the same base and just add different meats and vegetables. This place actually makes each dish taste unique. My go-to is their Chili Paneer. 5/5 so so so good. I've tried the buffet and the main menu (and even ordered delivery) and every experience has been great! Would highly recommend trying this place over some of the other over-priced and lacking in flavor Indian restaurants in Columbus. read more

I've never been here but have ordered delivery through a third-party vendor multiple times. They are always pretty fast, and the food is still steaming when it gets to me. The last time I ordered, I got the chicken tikka masala (hot), garlic naan, and malai kofta (medium). They gave me two big take out cartons of rice as well, and the total (from the 3rd party vendor) came out to be around $40. The different spice levels are appreciable. The malai kofta is a vegetarian dish made of deep fried potato/veggie/paneer balls in a sauce. They packaged it very efficiently, and everything came in a brown paper lunch bag. There were no extraneous bags or boxes which I appreciated. The food is delicious. The portions are a lot bigger than you expect, and they're pretty fast. What else would you want? I'm happy to find a local business to be able to support. read more

We decided to give New India a whirl on the promise of a Breakfast with Nick review...While Nick is usually spot on with his recommendations, my tastebuds had to disagree with him on this one! As we walked in the restaurant was dark and seemingly dated. We were seated immediately. The service was sub par which I have found to be true in any Indian restaurant besides Cumin at Polaris... We ordered the chicken tikka masala as well as samosas, garlic naan and an order of poori. The samosas were served frozen and we were disappointed we had to send them back. The array of chutneys they provided were delightful but make sure you request the onion if they leave that off! It was by far the best! The tikka masala was good but the chicken had somewhat of a strange taste...nothing inedible just not the freshest, best quality I have ever tasted. The naan and poori were fresh and hit the spot! When I think about going back to New India I find myself debating if it's worth the trip all the way to Bethel Rd. When I can guarantee myself a delicious Indian feast at Cumin near Polaris...Yeah, probably won't be back anytime soon...the frozen samosa froze my desire to give New India another chance! read more
