The reviews for the previous owner's weren't that great (food was great but the customer service was terrible). With these new owners, the food and the customer service was sub par. I've given the. Several chances, but I just can't keep throwing away money when there are other much better options for Indian food. They got rid of the lunch buffet, which was a big draw. The food portions are terrible for the price. Anytime I order something with lamb/goat, I get a few pieces of bony, fatty meat, which is NOT worth the price. Don't waste your money! Had a great dinner at New India after work today. It was out of the way, but amazing nonetheless. The bread basket ($6.50) is a good deal with a nice mix of naan. And i absolutely love bread of any and all kinds. Personal problem. I always get the vegetable samosa and for some reason refuse to stray from ordering the chicken curry, hot. It is delicious. New India Restaurant is okay but I have experienced much better Indian. The buffet is pretty small. There were not a whole lot of items to choose from, but there were several good vegetarian items. If you're going there for lunch, the buffet is the best value, and you have a chance to see the food before you eat it. The menu items seem to be kind of expensive but typical for Indian restaurants. I thought the cost of the buffet was fair. It was about $9 for all you can eat. They are also open for dinner, but I have only been in at lunch so that is what I recommend. A few of the vegetarian items typically on the buffet are the aloo choley, aloo matar, bhindi masala, chana masala, malai kotta, mixed vegetables, onion bhaji, pakora, Punjabi bhaji deep, and vegetable biryani. The aloo items each are made with potatoes, the choley is with chickpeas, and the matar is with peas. Both are mildly spicy and filling. The bhindi masala has crisp spicy okra with cilantro, garlic, and ginger. Chana masala is the classic chickpea with garlic and ginger. Malai kotta are vegetable balls. These were okay but not really spiced that well. Onion bhaji are a little messy on the inside. The onions did not seem that fresh. The pakoras and samosas are great with the coconut or mint chutney. Punjabi bhaji deep is vegetable fritters in a savory tomato sauce. These probably were the best tasting of the entree items. Salad was nothing special but is better with the chutneys and the hot pickles. The vegetable biryani is mostly rice but had great spice. It also serves Indian beer including Flying Horse and King Fisher. These are too much at about $7 for 22 ounces. Service is pretty good too. They will remove plates whenever finished with these. I could come here again for the buffet. It's a small buffet that's affordable. There's a lot packed into it plus a good value. read more

I have been to just about all of the most popular Indian restaurants and I can safely say that New India restaurant is the best in all of Northwest Columbus! Chicken Bhuna, Malai Kofta, paneer masala, ALL of their breads and appetizers... Amazing. The list goes on! They make their Lassi blend from scratch every day and you can taste the difference. What also sets them apart is their incredible service. So down-to-earth with a family feel, but so on top of every need you might have. We typically only eat here when we have a Groupon. We discovered it when Amul India closed because of Walmart moving in, who threw them out of their building. So we came here until we discovered that they opened back up just down the street from where they once were. Compared to Amul the food doesn't seem to be as high of quality. The curries seem to be thinner and watered down, less meat in the dishes. Even the naan seems a bit thin. Even with all that the food isn't horrible, it's average for Indian, maybe a little below average. The service here has a lot to yearn for and one of the main reasons we don't like coming. They almost never get you refills and I'm not sure they actually seat people in the order they arrive vs. the order of convenience for them. They always have room in the back which never seems to be opened and the bathrooms are tiny and not that clean. They almost never pick up your bill for you so I just go straight to the register so I don't have to wait 20 minutes to pay my bill. read more

We have ordered New India through DoorDash and Grubhub more than we have ever eaten inside, and their Indian food is top-notch. Their rice is great, naan is superb and samosas are crispy and full of flavor. My wife gets the chicken tikka masala and the sag paneer, I get the lamb vindaloo. Our order always comes correct which a lot of the chains on the delivery services do not. Probably have ordered here about twenty-plus times on DoorDash or Grubhub and have always been pleased. I am not normally one to write reviews, even when I have a negative experience, but my customer experience with this restaurant was SO BAD that I couldn't help but write this. My sister and I were trying to order for delivery from New India Restaurant from Uber Eats. It was almost an $80 order. The Uber eats delivery person came over an hour after we ordered and gave us someone else's food. The delivery person told me that the restaurant gave her the wrong person's food and encouraged me to call the restaurant, who would help me figure this out, so that is what we did. The restaurant manager spoke to us on the phone, at first politely, and acknowledged that my order was still at the restaurant, and we had a lot of back and forth to figure out how to correct the mistake with my order. We contacted Uber Eats, and they gave us the refund, but we were still without our food. The restaurant manager said that if we were able to come into the restaurant, that they would give us the food free of charge since this happened in error. We did not have a car, so we rented a zipcar to come pick up the food. Once I arrived at the restaurant, the story had changed. They asked me to pay for the food, since I had already gotten the refund from Uber Eats. I was reluctantly ready to pay for the food; however, what I did not appreciate was how what the manager told us over the phone was different, now that I managed to get there in person after all the trouble with renting a car. And before I was about to pay, I conveyed how disappointed I was at this. The manager then proceeded to talk to me VERY RUDELY. She explained how it was not their fault because the Uber Eats driver took the wrong person's food, and they had nothing to do with it; she also said that this was a common problem that happens at their restaurant all the time. When I replied and said, if this is a common problem, then they should check what food the drivers take; then the lady started to yell at me repeatedly, and said, "Do not teach us!" And then she just stormed into the kitchen. I was shocked at this behavior. I have ordered from this restaurant for many years, and it was truly shocking and disappointing to see how rudely the management responded when I did convey a concern. They do not take any responsibility for their errors, and instead terrorize their customers. Even if they had just said something like "sorry for the inconvenience, we will look into the issue with the drivers," I would have happily paid and left with the food. What was even more shocking was that when I told the manager that I have come to the restaurant for many years, and could not believe they would treat a customer like this, she put her hands together and aggressively yelled "thank you," and then told me to leave! After this unseemly, aggressive, and disrespectful behavior, I could not give them my business. I hope that this review will save another person from having a deeply upsetting experience with New India Restaurant's staff and management. read more

Totally disappointed!! We were out shopping on Bethel and it's noon and my sister and I were going to get some lunch to take home. It says it's open the door is open, the sign says they are open but the guy says they are NOT open and will not take our order. Says we have to come back later. While we were going back to car they turned away 4 more people. We even tried to call in an order from the car and were told they were not taking orders at this time and to call back later. Their food is good but it's not worth wasting my time or gas coming from the other end of town. I'll just find another Indian restaurant to go to that is open and wants my money. read more

As a general rule, I avoid buffets, but when a friend and I were in search of a quick lunch in the Northwest area, he suggested New India as one of the best affordable Indian options in the city. I was admittedly a touch skeptical, but I'm always game to try something new, so I said an enthusiastic "sure!"...and it was a good experience! First of all, you just can't go wrong with the price. $8.99 for large quantities of Indian food is simply a great bargain. But the general *quality* of the food is what surprised me the most. Obviously things like naan and rice aren't going to be negatively affected by sitting out for hours, but the tandoori chicken, tikka masala, and various other items wound up being very flavorful as well. Suffice it to say, I went back for seconds. The dumplings (I can't recall the exact name) were particularly delicious, and also held up well. As for the dessert bar, I was delighted to see kheer, though I must admit that while the flavor was there, the consistency was not -- the first real victim of buffet style, sadly. It had congealed quite a bit...but I'm not ashamed to say that I ate it anyhow. My friend had the mango pudding and enjoyed it. Speaking of mango, I also ordered a mango lassi (mango and yogurt smoothie, basically), thanks to my wonderful experience with that drink at Everest, and it was almost as good at New India as well. As other Yelpers have mentioned, the atmosphere of the restaurant is a bit dated, and my general sense is that it's not the kind of place you go to for a fine dining experience...but for a quick, filling, and tasty lunch from time to time? This is my boyfriend and I's absolute favorite Indian spot in Columbus, and we've tried several different spots. We probably order from here once a month or so, and every time it's fantastic. We always order the Chicken Tikka Masala, Chicken Makhani, Garlic Naan and Tandoori Roti -- and they always knock it out of the park for us! Ordered delivery off grubhub. So by the time we got 2 appetizers, naan bread and a lunchbox it was $51. My app sampler was thrown in foil and crumpled up. It was all dry, crap I wouldn't eat for free. Friends lunch box was pretty small portion for $14. I heard the tikka masala was good though. Everything else in his lunchbox was dry and a chore to eat. Delivery was almost 15 min longer than expected, but they require a tip before so oh well. Im going to venture that none of this was made when we ordered bc it seemed so dry and old. My husband and I decided to meet our son at New India for a birthday celebration. It was a good meeting spot for him driving from OSU and us driving from the Powell area. While we have driven past this restaurant in the Bethel Rd. building, we somehow missed it before. It is located near BW3, in the same strip. When we first walked in, we were greeted right away which was good because we otherwise would have thought this restaurant was closed. We were the only customers. This was a little concerning but we decided to stay anyway. My husband and I ordered the Malai Tikka special and my son ordered chicken vindaloo. I ordered mine mild and they ordered their spicy. We eat a lot of Indian food, so the first time we go somewhere we are never sure what the spice level will be. Mild was very mild, without any spice, which was fine because it was still very flavorful. My husband and son found spicy to be just right. We ordered a bread basket that came with dinner, and had a variety of different breads. The garlic naan was our favorite. Dinner was fine and service was pleasant but very slow- especially for an empty restaurant. They do seem to have a slow trickle of takeout orders though. They handed us a coupon at the end for our next dinner, which I wish we had seen in time to use for our first visit. There are so many really good Indian restaurants in Columbus and this one was good but we have had a lot better, just a few miles away. I think 3 1/2 stars would be about right- we thought it was fine, just not our favorite. We will keep looking for the perfect Indian restaurant between our house and campus. read more
