We came on a weekday evening, and it was packed! The sound travels here so that it can get really loud and busy. The inside is super casual with seating for large or smaller groups. The service by the staff was good. Our food came out quickly, and everyone was friendly and checked in on us. We ordered the Tom Kha, Nam Khao, Fried Clear Rice Paper Roll Wraps, Pineapple Khao Pad, and Geng Ka Ree. Everything was fabulous! Lots of great flavors and spices. The portion sizes were spot on. My favorite was the Nam Khao and the Fried Clear Rice Paper Roll Wraps. I love the bite-sized and sharing family-style. My companion and family also enjoyed it. If you like Laotian food, Bhan Mae Vane is a must-try in the East Bay! Find them off Webster Street with street and neighborhood parking. I look forward to going back!

Do you like the funk?…read more Our server explained to us the Lao version is more funky and fermented, while the Thai version is more mellow. We went with the Lao version. The Thai iced coffee was delicious and strong! As it should be. It did give me the jitters though because I'm a weak sauce. We were a party of ten and I was able to make rezzies via phone for a Friday evening at 6:30pm no problem about a week beforehand. The kiddos ordered à la carte, and five of us adults had the following: - BMV ultimate papaya platter with Lao sausage, angel wings and crispy pork. Crispy pork was legit, papaya salad definitely had that extra funk. The angel wings were crispy and meaty and my friends loved the Lao sausage. One even said "it's like tom yum soup in a sausage". It was very lemongrass forward which is not my thing, but that's my problem. I feel we could have ordered à la carte and that would have been a better deal than $75 for the platter. Some of it was fluff like the cabbage, rice and pork rinds. - Khao soy soup: Fiancé thought it would be creamy and coconut-y like the Thai version but it wasn't. I did enjoy the flat noodles but they were all stuck together. - Pia pla ka pow (fish with basil): Good one. The fish was moist and flavorful. The veggies were al dente and delicious too. - Sakoo: Unique! I enjoyed the chewy mochi exterior and the savory ground pork filling. It needed a sauce. I just used the chili sauce that was on the party platter. - Laab Gai: This fell flat for me. I'm not a huge fan of organs though. - Nam khao fried rice: One of our favorites! The crispy pieces really made this dish. Would definitely order this again. - Mango sticky rice: Served warm. Very sweet mango! - Purple rice with egg custard: Also served warm. This was ok. - Side of rice: HUGE serving! Unfortunately it was clumpy and hard, which means old. Street parking only. Get the nam khao and mango sticky rice!

He claims that not only do they have extremely consistent high-quality Thai curries and soups -- but that they also offer really great value for portion sizes. Not to mention the staff are kind, generous, and an overall joy to interact with, which adds to the wonderful atmosphere when dining at the restaurant. If you're looking for great Thai food, particularly curries or soups (such as tom kha), this place will deliver and exceed expectations. Eating inside provides a great atmosphere and experience, and takeout / deliveries have always been handled with care, quality, and consistency. A huge thank you to the staff of Spice I Am!

The curry was less thick and viscous than what I'm used to, but still filling and pretty flavorful overall. You can also request them to adjust the spice level too. I also got a glass of guava juice ($3) as I waited for my meal to be ready. I am surprised that this place isn't as busy as some others on Park St. Will be back for sure!

I missed photos of the main entrees enjoying our time and honestly not sure what we ordered as we paid with a kiosk and didn't get a printed receipt even thought I typed in my email.. so that's frustrating with technology. If you want a receipt have it printed before you leave. My friend had a spicy eggplant dish and I had a tofu dish with rice and no fish sauce. Wish I could be more descriptive but can't say without an itemized receipt.. doesn't matter though, was all amazing flavors for both my friend (who travels and has worldly palette, and my self with a broad pallet only within the US) Flavors were amazing and service was on par. I did have an issue at first with the first server saying Pad Thai could be done with tofu and no fish sauce so I was excited, but then the next server said it was already mixed and not able to accommodate, but did find me an alternative I found flavorful with veggies, though missed having the peanuts in my dish. I had Pad See You instead without meat or fish sauce. Service overall was wonderful, attentive and didn't have to wait for anything. They did close and allowed us to stay on the patio visiting long after. Would be happy to return again.. I didn't ask about validating my parking and then they closed, so that was a bummer but my bad.. do check when you arrive and see if they can validate to help with a hefty parking cost $20 for us but hung out longer than most..

The Burmese Samusas were crisp and golden, perfect with the sweet chili sauce on the side. But the standout for me was the Lotus Root Chips. They were light, crunchy, and came with a creamy dip that kept me reaching for more. Everything was fresh and full of flavor, and you can tell they put real care into each dish. The service was excellent too. Our server was friendly, attentive, and made great recommendations without ever rushing us. It really added to the whole experience. A couple of small things to note. The space is a little cramped, so it can feel tight when it is busy. And the price is on the higher side, so just go in knowing that. Those are the only reasons I am holding back from five stars. Would I come back? Absolutely. Just maybe for a special occasion when I am ready to treat myself. Highly recommend if you want something a little different and packed with flavor.

The restaurant is warm and inviting with some simple decorations and touches of color. We arrived shortly after opening time and were the first ones dining in, but a steady stream of customers started coming in gradually. The brunch menu has a good amount of sweet and savory items, although the prices for certain items were a bit steep. They have multiple types of coffee and tea drinks available. I opted to order an iced lavender latte, which was quite tasty and did not have an overpowering flavor of lavender and the sweetness was just right. I also ordered the creme brûlée toast, which was a smaller portion, with one piece of brioche toast and had a nice texture and a delicious vanilla custard topping with fresh fruit. We also had a side of fruit, which seemed a bit lackluster for the $9 price. They included a small plate of sliced apple and oranges, some blueberries and cherries and 1-2 strawberries sliced thinly. Food was pretty good, but I am curious about how the savory egg dishes taste. Service was friendly and attentive, as we had to flag down a staff member for a few different items more than once. They responded promptly and were kind. However, with 2 iced drinks, 2 small-ish entrees, and a side of fruit, the total with tax was just under $60 before tip. I think Peak could be a solid brunch spot with some minimal improvements. Overall, I'd recommend trying out Peak if you're in the area.
