Following a Sunday afternoon concert we went here for an early dinner. It was hard to tell that it was open but according to Yelp's listing it should be and was. There is an extensive sushi menu and limited menu of other items. I ordered the veggie stir-fry with tofu, mildly spiced. It had a great variety of vegetables, predominated by bean spouts; the tofu cubes were nicely browned. A single scoop of rice and a sauce a bit on the salty side completed the dish. My companion ordered teriyaki chicken. She got a bowl of iceberg lettuce, a large serving of chicken with a good sauce--not too sweet, and a single scoop of rice. I've driven past this restaurant a few time on my way to another nearby restaurant (Thai erawan) a few time and decided to stop by today to try their happy hour, I was thoroughly impressed! I was a little skeptical about the BOGO deal, thinking they would give me smaller portions or skimp on ingredients but that was not the case. I ordered 4 rolls total (paid for the 2 most expensive ones though) and was pleasantly surprised. My favorite was the alligator roll, which is topped with spicy tuna, fried eel, and tobiko. I also had the lion king roll (tasty, but not my favorite), oregon roll (deep fried and came with like, 12 pieces! Very yummy), and the rockstar roll (this roll was good, but the fried 'baby lobsters' on top didn't have as nice of a crisp on the batter as I would have liked. Again, this roll was huge and beautifully presented). Service was a one man show, but very attentive and friendly. Overall, I highly recommend this place to anyone in the Medford area. We decided to try the local new hot spot during our weekend trip in Medford. We arrived around 7 pm on a Friday night, and much to my surprise there was no wait. We took a seat and browsed the menu. Lots of options, a great variety with roll combinations I've never seen anywhere else. All of the staff was very friendly! They gave us all miso soup and a bowl of what looked like fried salmon skin on the house. We went with the blue bottle of sake and it was delicious! Smooth, not too sweet. They even let us keep the cool funky bottle. We tried the Avocado bomb! YUMMYYYYY If you love avocado it's a must try! The yellowtail negri was the best I've ever had. Everything we tried was great. I come to Medford every month for work so I try different places. I ordered miso soup, cucumber salad, a Firecracker roll that was a Cali roll with spicy tuna on top with "Chef Special Sauce" that was just sweet thai chili sauce and a Dynamite roll which is a Cali roll with scallops, imitation crab and small chunks of shrimp in a bit of Japanese mayo and scallions for color. Everything tasted okay, I've had Dynamite bakes at other places where there is a bunch more toppings and I take a star away if your menu says it includes something and it isn't in it or on it, in this case mushrooms. It was $30 for those four items so about what you expect to pay for sushi. I will say nothing tasted old or fishy so it was a decent place for sushi. I have tried two others here in Medford but need to go back and do a review. I do give them Five Stars for service though, water was never empty and they checked in multiple times during my meal. One suggestion for them is to do a picture menu of their rolls. Sushi places can give you FOMO seeing other people's orders being delivered to their table and you're bummed for not ordering what they got. read more

LOVED tonight's meal!! My family and I went out for a late Birthday dinner tonight. I've been waiting to find a fantastic Japanese restaurant, and we definitely found one tonight! I found out that they are under new ownership, so that's why they were closed for awhile (remodeled from the previous owner). Ms. Kay, the chef and server were outstanding!! We were seated and served so quickly! The service rocked, and both Ms. Kay and our server were very attentive. Now for our food...seriously could not have been better!! We had: beef bento box, beef plate with tempura, spicy noodle bowl with chicken, California roll, Kamikaze roll, Spicy tuna roll and the Spider roll. Everything was expertly cooked, perfect temperature, the meat was so tender, tempura was excellent, fish was fresh, sushi was tightly wrapped and presented so beautifully. First time in Oregon, driving from Klamath Falls to San Francisco--stopping in Medford. This is a great family restaurant. Honestly worst sushi I've had in the valley. We spent quite a bit on different roles. We liked one out of 5. The volcano roll had the bottom roll and a spoonful of masago on top thats it. Best sushi in town as far as I'm concerned. We used to go somewhere else for years until I found this place. Their yaki soba is also terrific. The only reason I'm not giving this 5 stars is because I ordered one sushi roll that sounded spicy (and I like the spice) and it turned out that they set it on fire. First of all, this isn't some fru-fru new era Japanese restaurant. What it is is a very good, no frills, neighborhood establishment. I'd not seen that, a neighborhood Japanese joint, since I left Tokyo while in the Air Force. The place was busy on a Sunday night but we were seated quickly. It was filled by locals and it seemed everyone (staff and customers) greeted each other as if they were old friends. Sorry to disappoint but we didn't try the sushi, there are plenty of other reviews for that. But after a 550 mile drive from Vancouver BC that day, we weren't interested in adventure. I had the Combination plate: teriyaki chicken, small salad, scoop of rice, and tempura prawns-sweet potato-summer squash-etc. My wife had the stir fry vegetable plate. She's very particular and approved of both the flavor and the preparation. The whole meal was very good, just right for what we were looking for. I rarely write reviews but have relied on this app for years. I'm from California and I drive through Medford about 2 times a month for work. Been fiendin' for some sushi for a while now. Opened up Yelp. It's usually hit or miss for me when trying a random sushi restaurant. But more miss than hit. I've been fooled by the number of stars and praises on numerous occasions. This place was rated 4.5 with good reviews and didn't disappoint. Actually exceeded expectations. I had the Volcano roll and the Spicy Heaven roll. Delicious! Some of the best sushi I've ever had! Do yourself a favor and come here if you havent already. Or if you're a sushi loving traveler like I am, and are wondering which sushi spot you want to try, New Sakura should be you're destination.
