I'm a new patient here with Dr. Tran and am so happy that I switched to this office. I had been with my previous dentist for over 10 years and never felt as comfortable or taken care of as I do here. Dr. Tran and his team did a full exam on my teeth and determined that I needed a good amount of work (I have troublesome teeth so I was expecting this) and found issues that were never addressed at my previous office. Dr. Tran and the dental assistant, Priscilla, explained everything they were doing and made sure to manage my pain during two difficult root canals. Priscilla especially was a life-saver during this rough visit. I couldn't recommend this office and team enough. read more

Came for toothache & new patient consultation. Left paying ~$500 after employer covered HMO insurance. Same procedure at previous dentists has cost under $100. Be prepared to pay more than expected, and have it poorly explained by front staff who can't accommodate simple requests. They will direct you to your insurance company for your charts, or any the many pages of paperwork you sign off on. They won't provide for other simple requests. Like the images you pay for out of pocket, or confirmation of cancellation of appointment aside from verbal. After dealing with them, you'll want things in writing as the long nailed guy Hugo explains it, "I explained it to you, and you signed it". Yes two sentences, on over 10 pages of paperwork during my visit was a job well done. Here is a summation of what you can expect. If your insurance covers co-pays at most dental offices, this office will charge you an out of pocket for 3D pictures of your teeth which will be charged at each visit. Best part, they aren't yours to keep/view and the office doesn't send these to future dentists unlike XRays which are required by law. Front office claims to have explained this is a separate charge during my visit (they didn't), and you will be signing off on this being explained to you/being responsible for the charge. The 3D pictures are flash photographs in a wand. Most dentists do this with light and mirror, and explain what's wrong. Seeing it in a picture in front of me was nice, but unnecessary. 0 access to it except at visit is sub-par extortionate health service, and having to pay $50 of pocket every time is something to take into consideration, especially given the fact these aren't yours to request or take to future offices. Maybe this bit was optional, the office can comment here if it is. Dr. Au explained my X-Rays and problem areas well. He took gum measurements, and gave his recommendation. I knew I would need deep cleaning going into the office, and thought I would pay what I have had to on my insurance previously ($60). I suggest reading into deep cleaning as a process & what insurance typically covers. I was explained that only 50% of the deep cleaning was covered by my insurance & if I wanted to proceed I would need to cover the remaining ~$400, please sign here explaining I explained it to you. I trust the dentists recommendation and get it done, but left feeling off. When I contacted my insurance I was explained it the way I wish it was explained to me. Insurance covered 85% of each quadrant for the first stage of deep cleaning, scaling & root pins. My responsibility would be for $15 a quadrant (ay, the $60 I was expecting!). What wasn't covered was the gum irrigation which came out the ~$100 a quadrant. Since I am not a dentist, I won't comment on the necessity of this bit. I do recommend doing a quick Google search to see why insurance typically doesn't cover this, and why their is distinction in which parts they cover (there's a lot). Regardless, I would have liked this distinction in different processes of one procedure explained to me as the proportion of each separate process. You'll have to pay 15% of quadrant for the scaling, and 100% for the irrigation. Being explained that it was 50% of the procedure that was being covered, while true, is a clever use of wording. This review would've been 5 stars if things were explained better at the time of, before, & during my visit. The procedures were done well, the hygienist Priscilla was great, and Dr. Au does provide a thorough explanation what's wrong. As a consumer, I want access to the things I pay for out of pocket, and I want to be explained properly what is going to come out of mine. read more

They send you text reminders for your appointments so you don't forget. The staff really remembers each patient and it makes the experience more special and comforting. While I look for another dentist.... warning, it's long. I figured I'd leave my two cents for this place. After moving cross-country for work, I had gone without a dental check up for a year and was just itching to get a proper cleaning. I was assigned to this practice through my health insurance and I wish I had done more research before going. First the positive: The place is very clean and it wasn't very crowded. I had been told ahead of time that my first visit would be pretty long since I needed to get images and xrays done on top of the cleaning, which I appreciated. The technician/assistant I had (who did my images) was very nice, personable and pretty funny! However, even though they told me to expect a long appointment, I was never told that images and xrays would cost an extra $40 on top of my copay. That should have been part of the "heads up." I also wasn't a huge fan of the layout of the place - everything is open and you could probably hear confidential conversations, drilling, you name it. (remember it was pretty empty but you get the idea) While I sat waiting for the dentist the assistant/technician went over some "lingo" to listen for so I understand the dentist regarding a test for your gums. She pointed out a convenient diagram to hep me understand. She also confirmed it had been over a year since my last visit about 3 times. Seemed fairly normal at the time. Well, I should have known they pretty much "diagnosed" me before seeing me right then and there. When the Dentist (I can't remember her name) finally came to see me she didn't smile. She was very business-like and to the point. She looked over my x-rays and commented on my crown with an hint of disapproval. She then checked my gums and, based on the "lingo" given to me, it sounded like my gums were in pretty good shape for not seeing a dentist in a year. She then said I would need to get a deep cleaning as I was running the risk of gum disease. (I glanced at the convenient diagram on the wall- nope I was right, didn't sound like my numbers were in the "danger" zones) What? Now. I'm a person who will always let a professional have the benefit of the doubt. They should know more than me, right? So I let her explain why she thought I needed it and it was as if she was describing someone else teeth. "My oral hygiene could not be that bad", I thought. Then she told me she would send over someone to handle the financial part since it wouldn't be covered by my insurance. So I'm lying there, facing the wall in this big room full of dentist chairs and photoshopped pictures of people with perfectly fake teeth smiling back at me, feeling really embarrassed. To be fair, I can't really remember what the financial person told me (I assume she has a proper title but since I've never been to a dentist that had one I couldn't tell you what it would be). She started off saying it wouldn't be covered by insurance, that I could do it in stages, right and then left side (since it required local anesthesia and would divide the cost into two). When I asked if this was really necessary she just said the dentist recommends it. I politely told her I wouldn't be able to pay for this procedure and asked if I could just do the regular cleaning now and perhaps, if it really seemed like I needed it, we could do the deep cleaning at another time in the future. She firmly stated it "wouldn't really be worth it." Then she proceeded to ask if I wanted two visits or to get it all done at once. By this point I just wanted to leave. I had been made to feel badly because I had a work done on my teeth in the past, been told my dental health was poor, was pushed into getting a procedure I couldn't pay for, and all without much consideration or sensitivity. I told them I'd have to think about it and made my way to get up. They were very reluctant and I left without even a cleaning. Seems completely ridiculous. A few weeks later I received a call asking when I wanted to schedule the appointment for my deep cleaning. I told them I had done some research, asked dental students (as well as my sister who is a pediatrician) and thought I did not need a deep cleaning. I told them that I read that a lot of dentists were recommending an unnecessary procedure. They responded with something like, "the dentist feels this is the best option for you," which, to be fair, is a fine response from someone at a front desk. I then said, "well I still can't afford this procedure right now. So if I can't do a regular cleaning...." They then up and offered a slightly discounted price (where was that the first time) to which I finally said, "well I don't know my schedule so I'll have to call back." Which was a lie because I'm sure I knew then that I would not be going back. A waste of time, and felt like my money was more important than medical integrity. read more

Anything that comes to the care for my health especially my teeth isn't always smooth sailing for me. But at New Vision Dental it was as good as it gets (as yelp puts it)! I had a really bad experience with a dentist in Irvine that I went to in the past so I've stayed away from getting any dental work for the last 6 years. After 6 years I decided it was time to get my teeth cleaned and to check for any cavities. I was referred to New Vision dental by a friend and I couldn't be happier! I went in for a teeth cleaning and x-ray and met with Dr. Au. He and his staff were all very friendly, professional, and most importantly honest. I have pretty good teeth and usually don't get cavities so I was pretty happy when he told me I was cavity-free! I've had dentists in the past tell me I had many cavities only to find out they were lying. The office was also very clean which is another plus! I gave them a 4 star instead of 5 because of location. Just completed all the dental work I needed. Overall a positive experience. I've read some of the reviewers who are upset at the quoted cost and consultation. honestly when we have insurance we often think that everything is covered but in reality I think this just reflects an imperfect system more than the dentist themselves. As far as being recommended unnecessary work, I cannot arrest to that as i didn't get a second opinion. But i didn't feel like was being sold anything that i didn't need or want. I was also given the option to drag out my treatment or to do it in one 2 hour session. For the amount of work I needed it was quick. The only thing I have to mention is that I didn't see my original dentist as he has jury duty. My procedure was suppose to be minimal to painless. Despite my cheeks and tongue being numb, I felt the drilling. On one of my tooth. He did give me more meds but I just felt the other areas numb but not the tooth he was working on. Not sure what happened. But overall the rest of my work had minimal pain. The office is clean and the staff remembers your name and are all friendly. I get a reminder call before the appointment which is nice. Much better than my last dentist whom I kept having to return because they could get my crown right. And kept trying to sell me things I didn't want. read more

I am very satisfied with my visit here at New Vision Dental. Hugo was very kind and did an excellent job cleaning my teeth. He took his time and gave me tips on how to improve my flossing habits at home. He started off with scaling (scraping the plaque buildup off my teeth), then moved on to flossing, polishing, and finally a fluoride treatment. They even gave me a goody bag containing a new toothbrush, floss, toothpaste and mouthwash. Dr Au has been very kind and it shows that he really does care about his patients and their visits to his office. He took time out of his day to ensure I left his office happy. I have been going to the same dental office my entire life and this was the first visit to a different dental office. The care I received this time around was on par with my old dental office. All I wanted was a cleaning but I couldn't use the $49 coupon unless I did the $25 xrays and exam. So after I did those, the dentist told me I had 3 cavities that would be $185 per tooth to fix. He seemed to know what he was doing and was very kind. I declined to get it done because it was simply too much money. Finally a lady that said it was her first day there started to do my cleaning. I asked if she had worked somewhere else and she said she had been doing this for years at a different office but it was her first day here. I am beyond angry because I feel like I wasted my money. All she did was a little polishing which took less than a minute, not because she was efficient, it's because she didn't even try. I could have done a better job doing it myself. She didn't floss my teeth or scrape plack off of them. It was a waste of money!! They also talked me into getting the fluoride for $40, which I knew I needed. I ended up paying $114 for everything which was way more then I expected for my visit. Now that I want to go somewhere to get my fillings done they want to charge me $75 to send my digital xrays to a different dentist. SCAM ARTIST!!!! Went in for a routine cleaning as new patient however they did a terrible job! they did not scrape the plaque off my teeth nor did they floss them. All they did was take pictures of my teeth and polish them with the minty paste... that IS NOT a cleaning. You would think as a new patient they would go over and beyond to impress me but they didnt. I was then told I needed over $2,000 worth of work on my teeth. Not having any pain or issues and thinking that was strange I got a 2nd oppinion from a family friend out of town.. I only had to have 2 out of 6 teeth fixed that they recomended. The other 4 was cosmetic and I didnt HAVE to have them done only if I didnt was metal in my mouth. My original review over a year ago has recently been removed by YELP because I allegedly verbally attacked the dentist or something. I have nothing personal against New Vision Dental, just that in my 20+ years of visiting a dental office my experience with new Vision Dental was horrendous. I was very distraught when I left their office about my "bad teeth". When I went with two other dentists, they pretty much said that New Vision Dental is scamming you. I have altered my original review and removed what I think YELP considered a personal attack towards New Vision Dental. "I am usually too lazy to write a review. My experience here was so bad that i just had to share it. I went in for teeth cleaning and I was refused service. They said my teeth are so bad that I needed to get a $2900 antibiotic treatment first before they can clean my teeth. They also said I had two cavities. I was shaken by their comments and was really bothered that my teeth were allegedly so bad. I take good care of my teeth and couldn't believe what they where telling me. I went and got a 2nd opinion from a reputable dentist in the area. I didn't tell the dentist my prior diagnosis. The dentist took x-rays cleaned my teeth, and checked for cavities. In the end he said I have ZERO cavities and that my teeth are in great condition. He was impress that I never had any CAVITIES. He suggested that I come back to pull my wisdom teeth out since one of them is kind of slanted and pushing up against my other teeth. He showed me the x-rays to confirm his recommendation. Looks like they changed their name...This place used to be called 'Smile Bright Dental'. I noticed the change due to their office calling me NON STOP to come in for an appointment. I have repeatedly told them to please remove my number from their call list, and although they say they will, I keep getting phone calls. I think I'll have to go to the BBB. Anyhow, I made a yelp review for this dental office. Since they changed their name, it's only fair that my previous review follow them here. Here is my review, in it's copy-pasted glory: I wish I would have never gone. This place is such a scam. All I went in for was a cleaning...That's it! After my "cleaning" the dental assistant asked me to watch a DVD. I started watching the movie, then I realized it was a movie about gum disease... I was shocked...Were they suggesting I had gum disease?! And if they were, what a horrible way to find out! Clearly I needed a second opinion. After the DVD, I was asked to go into a private room with the receptionist, Angelica. She told me I had a SEVERE case of gum disease and needed something done ASAP. I told her that they could only do what my insurance covered. I was taken back to the room where I was given 2 shots inside of my mouth...I was confused because this was not apart of my cleaning. After everything, I was given a HEFTY bill. Apparently they went ahead and did things, like the 2 shots, that weren't covered by my insurance. I was extremely upset, so when I went home, I called my insurance and let them know what they did. My insurance claimed that they should not have charged me because I'm covered. Needless to say, my insurance looked into it, got some money back, and I learned my lesson. I will NEVER go back to these people again. Over charges for services and always trying to up sell for items you don't need. I see a dentist every 6 months and I'm aware of my teeth's conditions. When I decided on this office it seemed ok but I should have taken the bad reviews into consideration. first visit, if I let them, was going to be about $575 INCLUDING my insurance. they told me I needed 2 filling and sealant as well as standard xray/cleaning. I passed and went with the standard services. My copay is $5 and they charge $30 total as an "initial" office visit. 6 months later I go back for a cleaning. declined previous so call "needs" and had xray/cleaning only. again charge $30 total including my copay. said $25 for office visit. called my insurance co and found out my visits are only $5 total. they are overcharging. I caused trauma to my front tooth and needed a root canal. Dr. Au walked me through the whole process and was quick to get the job done. I was impressed by the next morning, when his office called to see how I was doing. Although I was in some pain, I had my Tylenol with Codeine. Just left the office for my permanent front tooth. After reading all the reviews from other patients and the angry replies from Dr. Brandon, I'm not exactly sure why I'm going to bother posting this. I'm not looking for a tongue lashing from anyone at New Vision Dental but simply hoping this review will help someone else out before they go into this office, leave early from work, and waste their time like I did. I only have one issue with this dental office, why cant I get my teeth cleaned? I just want to find a decent dentist that will clean my teeth and its shocking to me that this is too much to ask for. It makes no sense that if you have insurance and you want to get a "basic" cleaning that is covered for free under your insurance that you cannot get that service. Of course they want you to sit in their X-Ray chair so they can bill your insurance company for that service. I wasn't able to sit for x-rays on this particular day and I have no problem with them billing my insurance company for this service if I had, but since I'm already here shouldn't I at least be entitled to a "basic" cleaning? Nope! Isn't a "basic" cleaning considered regular upkeep? Isn't this why the insurance company says you can go twice a year? We get our nails done every 2 weeks, get our hair done, eyebrows waxed, buy new clothes...why is a teeth cleaning impossible to obtain? Does the insurance company not allow the dental offices to bill for "basic" cleanings anymore? Is this what its all about? I want to walk out of here feeling fresh and clean, sorta like I just came from the dentist (lol). I guess that's not happening anymore these days, the doc even had the nerve to tell me that a "basic" cleaning doesn't exist anymore. WTH? Really? What is going on in Dental land that "basic" cleanings don't EXIST anymore? Give me a break! I remember as a kid my mom would take me out of school twice a year to get a "basic" cleaning. Your telling me that NO DENTIST does a "basic" cleaning anymore? Please...No way...I don't believe it! All I want is to have my freaking tartar scraped and that little buffer thingy with the bubblegum flavored paste to swoosh around a few times so I feel like coming here was worth my time. I know I probably do need a deep cleaning but guess what doc, I cant afford that right now because I'm still paying for my last deep cleaning that I had over 2 years ago. So basically the moral of this story is that the dentist won't clean your teeth anymore and that a "basic" cleaning as we once knew it to be doesn't exist anymore. Unless your willing to pony up the extra money for that advanced treatment you supposedly need, your going here for nothing. What's the point of going to the dentist at all? What's the point of paying for insurance every month that covers a "basic" cleaning twice a year when no dentist will give you one of these mythical cleanings? So many questions with no reasonable answers. Couple nice things though, his staff was very nice, the office was very clean and if nothing else that's worth a few stars to me. After much deliberation and driving by New Vision Dental, I decided to write this review to save any unsuspecting patient. your wallet is their first concern. Over priced up selling is what you can expect. Inferior dental work, they once offered me a dental implant for 3700.00...BUT if I act now the dentist would be so kind as to give me a discount of 700.00 ( 1400.00 total all over town ) they attempted to quickly bond my front tooth..3 times and it was always my fault. ( SHI^&% work ) I got fed up and went to my old dentist, who fixed it right away, two years later no problems find a reputable Dentist that cares about you and their craft...not your wallet read more
