My wife told me and showed me (video) of her visits to this market with her mom in the summer of 2019. It was good timing because the world slowed down for four years. We've been traveling the past two years and visited this market today. The vegetables are excellent and include varieties usually seen only in select specialty Asian markets. Some of the fruit tasting convinced us to skip a purchase, others to buy. The food stalls are very good and offer inexpensive options like the bbq pork sticks. I genuinely frequent Farmers that provide Organic produce. Unfortunately there are only a few vendors that are certified organic, so I support them in their efforts. The non-organic vendors just say, it's too expensive. In order to have more organic choices, shoppers need to ask the question if the farmer is organic. If not, go buy from the organic farmer. I'm not a weekend farmer's market hound, searching or traveling to different farmer's markets around the bay. I will occasionally check one out, and I've checked out enough of them that I know what I like when it comes to setting up a farmer's market. Pros: -actual farmers out here from multiple agricultural counties, dishing out their specialties for the season. -the majority, if not all farmer's stands out here are organic, so no big agricultural giants out here. -plenty of parking, it is in a dead part of a defunct mall parking lot. -good energy, lots of people attend. Good commerce energy. -the day I went there were 2-3 stands of local bakeries selling pastries. I wasn't in the market for that, that particular day, but it did look interesting. Cons: -even though the pricing does seem a bit less expensive than say conventional grocery shopping, it is not by much. And lots of things they give price breaks only if you get it by the quantity. I can't really use 5+ lbs of cherries or tomatoes, I simply can't use them fast enough for me to be able to utilize it. -zero shade because it is basically a parking lot. I seem to like farmer's markets that have trees and benches, just makes it more relaxing for me. -not terribly large, basically 2 rows of stands where you can make a complete circle in a couple of minutes. And most vendors seemed more the same than different, which makes comparing a bit tougher. -outside of the pastry stands, there was only 1 place doing prepared food, a lone taco truck. I can get that any day of the week, so didn't bother. Most other farmer's markets have several prepared food options these days. But I will be back as the produce I did get here was pretty damn good. Got some Asian water spinach, a monster bunch for $5, some seasonal cherries that had great cherry flavor and some monster ripe tomatoes that were so heavy from having more flesh than juicy seeds. Really made a difference in my dishes for that week, and to that I'll drop an extra star. *clang* read more

I love this farmers market! I live in Union City and the farmers market there is very limited on their selection of fruits, veggies, and hot foods. This one has tons of options for hot foods, pastries/ breads, and fruits and veggies :) Theres also a really good coffee vendor! Everyone is super friendly and helpful. And theres lots of free samples. The only con is that there isn't a lot of shade, so I'll be bringing a hat next time. I'll be stopping by weekly for sure! read more

Not my local market, but the only one open on a Sunday around here when I miss mine. Their early summer selection was abundant and lots of choices in stone fruit and classic market veg (kale, cabbage, etc). It's a bit crowded, but manageable with live music and a couple of bbq food stalls and tacos. Park up the hill by the theater (the market moved down closer to mall entrance) for an easier time. This farmers market on the parking lot of Newpark Mall has several produce stands, baked goods, dessets and as well as other small businesses. A wide variety of baked goods, desserts, BBQ, snacks, and popcorn. The Market is open on Sundays. They moved the location closer to Mowry Avenue making it more visible for customers. There is ample parking as the mall is fairly empty. On a sunny day there was a crowd of shoppers as well as families. It's a nice to shop if you are looking for a farmers market. read more

Plethora of vegetables at this market. Seasonal offerings but seems like baby bok choy, spinach, carrots, onions, potatoes, sweet potatoes/yams, purple cabbage, different color cauliflowers, broccoli, leeks, lemongrass, and radishes are usually available for the few different months I visited. There's a particular E&H organic mushrooms stand that has very earthy (ofc!) 'shrooms including shitake, oyster, wood ears, and other kinds. Can be pricey per lb (I saw $10 / $15 per pound) but there's different boxes where he offers $5 or $10 bags if you can't decide or not too picky. There are about 3 fruit stands, lots of oranges and apples along with other seasonal fruits. Most of them cut halves so you know what it looks like inside if you're not sure on the varieties or juiciness. Not much for food - one popcorn stand, one macaron, one for meat & eggs, another for steamed bao/dumplings, raw honey and soap, and sadly no bakeries. Most veggies are $3 a bunch/pound but if you arrive half hour before closing time, that's prime time for bagged bargains at $5 and those bags usually weigh around 3 lbs or even more. It's mostly picked over at that point so don't expect those to sit for more than 3 days but still a steal for organics. Almost all vendors also have clear plastic bags to bag your items, but be sure to bring a sturdy one to bag all the different varieties! read more

This is a very spacious farmers market with lots of parking and space to walk around compared to the Irvington Farmers Market. I love that the produce here is fresh and that the vendors are friendly. Cash is preferred but most vendors here accept credit cards too. Sometimes there are also vendors that sell freshly cooked food. It's a good time for everyone. Lastly, can someone tell me if it's common practice in farmers markets to go up to a stall and taste berries straight from the display? I was appalled when I saw a lady taste berries from vendor to vendor as if they were free for all (and no, these were not under the "sample" batch) lol. read more

Holistic review over the past 2 years, probably has the most amount of farm and food stands for this area. Overall not quite as good as some of the San Jose/Southbay Farmer Markets like the ones in Los Gatos and Sunnyvale. Parking is at Newark Mall so you'll have plenty of spots to park pretty close to the market, it also makes getting in and out a lot easier than some of the other places since you have a lot of different options for paths to take. There are two porta potties on site and an ATM if you forget your cash. The great thing is there are lots of asian fruits and vegetables here which we didn't see a lot of at the other markets. We recently got some really good Bok Choy, much fresher than ones we find at Lion or 168. Other than the veggies and fruits which can be much higher quality than grocery stores we come to browse some of the meat and food vendors occasionally. read more

I remember how much I miss the summer when I visit farmer's market in the winter. Even though winter market has way fewer vendors, this one is still one of the biggest markets in the area. In the winter, there are 3-5 vegetables vendors and 2-4 fruit vendors (one for apple/pear, others for oranges/persimmons). It's nice having a farmers market so close to us to go to on Sundays. There seem to be many more stands this past Sunday as compared to other Sundays I've gone. Some of my favorite fruit stands include: Rodriguez farm. If you go towards the later afternoon they seem to put everything in a bag and all in each bag is $5. This past Sunday they had peaches, nectarines, cherries, mandarin cuties, oranges, and even tomatoes in a bag for $5 each. I love all the veggies stands and strawberries stands and kettle popcorn is one of my kids favorite! Some stands now let you pick your own just sanitizer first before you pick. Other stands let you point which one you want and they will bag for you. Make sure you check it out and support your local farmers. The stands I bought from they all took credit cards too. read more

I am regular to Newark Farmers Market. However with the recent COVID19 it is little un-safe to go visit personally. I found out on-line that farmers have apparently tied-up with avocadonext app and they are now selling online. I liked the idea of ordering online and helping out farmers at this time of need. I ordered last week and I got my order delivered on Sunday morning just like I would go and I pick-up myself at the market. I ordered fruits from J&J Ramos and I got fresh fruits delivered. So, mostly my review is on the MAMAHOUSE BAKESHOP! This is one of the "shares" that I hesitate on. Their bakery items are so incredibly good... Sharing is not the first thing that comes to my mind (I can barely wait to get back to my truck to start chomping on one of their goodies). My first purchase was their morning bun. An organic pastry filled with delicious flavors of cardamom and orange. I was not happy with myself when I only bought one. (Lesson learned, always 2 from now on... 2!) Next trip, after requesting 2 morning buns, I eyed a slice of their Brown Butter Tea Cakes! Pretty orange color with icing. I can hang with that! Walked to my truck (theme here? ;0) and was blown away by the flavor of the Tea Cake! Moist, flavorful, not too sweet... DELICIOUS! I'll let the purveyors let you in on the secret ingredients! Newark Farmers Market is located at NewPark Mall in Newark on Sundays. It was in the midst of a heatwave when I went to check out the Farmers Market. It used to be in the Sears/Macy's parking lot. It has now moved to the Burlington/JC Penney parking lot. Lots of fruit/vegetables stands as well as food stands/trucks are there. It seemed smaller as I made a lap around quickly (maybe it was the heat which made me move faster than usual). I'll be back to browse/shop for fresh produce. read more

Newpark Farmer's Market is one of my top 3 favorite Bay Area Farmer's Market's. They have such a good variety. And I love seeing the continuity of some of the vendors. They have breads, pies, fruits, vegetables, eggs. I always hit up the Apple cider guy and Kettle Korn. They're year round too, which is great. This Farmer's Market is a must see. The Newark Farmers Market is the place to be on Sunday. I feel like all of the Tri-City folks are here. There are plenty of stalls for your veggies and fruit. Today it was persimmons and grapes galore. $1 per pound! It was crazy! You still get your staples like Kettlecorn, food, baked goods, and music playing as well. I frequent every 2 - 3 weeks for veggies and fruits that I cannot find from other groceries. This is my go-to farmer's market, and I can find some snacks or food to chow down. Take a stroll around farmer's market, to compare the quality and prices they sell. Normal prices are $ 3 - $4 per pound. But you can check that few veggies and foods that are in season are $1.50 per pound. Little cheaper than grocery prices. It's a deal, you won't find anywhere else. Beware of the crowds and next to you. Sometimes the customers are unaware of what they are doing. Follow the signs posted to let the farmer's market operate in that area. The new normal for all food producers, restaurants and vendors is they have to handle their goods, weigh it for you and bag it for you. It's a way not to spread Covid19 virus. You can talk or ask briefly. Be sure to buy what you need, shop quickly and go to your car. read more

Selection is decent but seems a little more limited than other area farmers markets. I should note I'm writing this during a pandemic so that may be a big factor that is not their fault Pluses are, that is very spacious and easy to social distance and still browse the stands. Also they have fun family activites some weeks or at least they did pre shelter In place. Vendors seem friendly not too pushy. I have gone a couple times now and gotten some pretty good deals. Although after coming home and thinking about it, I did feel I overpaid at one stand. Still deciding if I want to make this or the union city market my standard farmers market. read more
