"Are you here for doordash?" the lady asked. "No." "Ordering here?" "Yep." "Ugh. Well you can get a sandwich and chips cause we don't have anything else." I did everyone a favor and walked out. If closing is at 8:30 pm, change the closing time and lock the doors. If it's at 9:00 pm, you should still be able to get full service at 8:25 pm. Went for lunch with senior parents and as they had never been to Newk's. The menu was a bit overwhelming but the cashier was very patient while they read the menu and made their choices. Father had a Greek salad that he really enjoyed and commented that the size was more than plenty. Mother had a turkey sandwich with her favorite secret treat bbq chips and was quite happy, I had the special trio salads of chicken salad, pimento salad and fruit salad to balance the two. The pimento had a bit of spice that made it nice than typical bland mayonnaise base and chicken was also tasty without being too much mayo as well. My boyfriend and I went to Newks Vestavia last night for dinner when we arrived at the restaurant, they were already doing their nightly closing at 7:45 PM and they close at 9 PM. It was my boyfriend's first time going so I was excited for him to try Newks for the first time . none of the tables had condiments on them and I even asked what time did they close because it looked like they were already closed and they said nine. after spending 30 bucks on food and a six dollar tip which I feel like I shouldn't have left a tip since we had to fill our own drinks. What is the tip for anyway that's how all these places are set up now they want you to answer a question which is leave them a tip, even though tips are for above and beyond exceptional service. We did not get any of that last night. The cheesecake that I ordered and paid for I was then till later there was no cheesecake and I could pick another cake. Well, I got strawberry cake complete with hair in it. Then when I asked for it to go containers in a bag, it was like I was disturbing the workers because they were trying to close down at 7:45. It was a terrible experience. There was no sweet tea and they said because they were closing down they weren't gonna make anymore. It was just a bad experience and I really honestly wanted my money back and we leave and go somewhere else but since we were already there, we went ahead and stuck it out. Well I come to work today and I eat the rest of my food and I eat my cake that I bought last night and I'm eating and enjoying it. I feel something in my mouth and pull out a long hair that did not belong to me. I am beyond disgusted and I would warn anyone never to go to this newks again they have gone downhill and I hope that they close their service is terrible and this is not the newks that I grew to love and it was my boyfriends first and last time going . The crazy part is with all these restaurants closing down all of a sudden in the area you would think Newks would be stepping their game up and stepping way way down. I'm a fan of Newks and this most recent experience was no different. Quality food at a price that doesn't break the bank. We stopped here on a Friday night and it was pretty quiet. We wanted to order on the app, nut it looked like that option was not available at this store. So we ordered at the counter. It didn't take long for our food to arrive - everything was correct and looked fresh. I enjoyed my soup and salad, and my daughter enjoyed her cheese pizza. Walking in, the location looks very nice! The interior is very large and very clean. The issues start when the order taking process begins. Me and my girlfriend asked for 2 Large Pairs: 1) Full Garden Salad (add bacon, add eggs) and a half cup of Loaded Potato Soup 2) Full Sandwich (Boss Q) and a half cup of 6 cheese Pimento Bacon Mac & Cheese In addition, we asked for two drinks. We had to repeat multiple times a person, what we wanted our order to be and how we wanted it (large pair.) The cashier kept just saying, "Okay....alright...so you wanted what?" She rang us up for a full salad, full soup, full sandwich, and full Mac & cheese. Roughly $5 more expensive than if it was done correctly. The wait wasn't too long, but when we were receiving our meals, our meals were mixed up from what we ordered (Salad with Mac & Sandwich with Soup) Not that big of a deal, but annoying that after we told her MULTIPLE times exactly what we wanted, we still didn't get it right with only a few mins between ordering and receiving the meal. When the waitress(who was the same cashier that took our order) was giving us our Mac & Cheese, the cashier coughed in the direction of us and our food. She paused, continued to put the food in front of us, and gave a quick "sorry" and laughed. She then walked off while putting headphones in. Once the food situation was sorted, we ate and it was delicious. A saving grace, for sure. When my girlfriend asked for a spoon, the cashier had to finish stuffing the rest of her pizza into her mouth before speaking through her food to say she'd bring one out. After she dropped off the spoon, she ran to the back kitchen where another one of the workers started flailing around with other workers yelling for "Mr. Manager" Unsure if this was her first day, and if so, it's understandable to be nervous, but the attitude and professionalism of the establishment was lacking. I hadn't been to Newk's in a couple of years and decided to pickup a sandwich for dinner. I decide to go with Newk's club which consisted of; Smoked ham, oven-roasted turkey, bacon, Swiss cheese, cheddar, tomatoes and romaine lettuce. Topped with mayo and honey mustard. Of course this sounded tasty. For my side I opted for a bag of bbq kettle chips. When I got home and opened my sandwich I was a bit disappointed. There was a bunch of mayo and mustard, but where was the meat?!? I pretty much was eating a lettuce , tomato, mayo and mustard sandwich. Not sure if they were having a bad day, but I don't think I'll be returning. She knew the exact special I was referencing and got me taken care of. I ordered the Pepperoni and Sausage pizza and a coke to wash it down. It was not busy, so I think my order was ready in less than 10 mins. I loved the look of my pizza and added a few extras with red pepper flakes, basil, and parmesan cheese. The pizza was delicious. I was only able to eat a few slices because I didn't want to get too full. The amount I was able to eat was just enough. On other reviews at different locations, I normally order the Newk's Q but I will add pizza in to the rotation. The restaurant for the most part was clean. I met a friend for lunch at Newk's recently. It was about 12:30 and pretty crowded but service was fast and friendly. I chose the green goddess salad, which I have had before and enjoyed. It was not as good as I remember. The tomatoes were hard and the avocado was brown and very hard. I know avocados can be hard to catch exactly ripe but this one was not good at all. Beyond that, there didn't seem to be much else on the salad besides lettuce and chicken, though they were both fine. I wasn't impressed and wouldn't order it again. read more

I have never had a bad experience at the Newks in Vestavia. Even when it's busy, the service is good and you get your food quickly. I like that there soup menu changes daily. It was a bustling hump day when I ate here for lunch. This franchised Newk's Eatery is located in the strip of shops and eateries adjacent to the popular Vestavia City Center. It is a stone's throw from the new Iron Stone Pizzaworks. Newk's looks deceivingly small from the outside. The interior is nice and clean with a chairs and tables packed into every available space. There were also booths along the walls. In the center is a sort of "condiments" area where you will find such things as napkins, hot sauce, fresh grated cheese, crackers, jalapenos, and packets of their cute chopstick breadsticks. Their menu has quite the range. There are soups, sandwiches, pizzas, fresh tossed salads and deserts. Their menu can be downloaded and it's hanging on the wall at the front of the restaurant where you place your order. I opted for the Newk's Club with slaw and a bowl of their tomato soup. My friend ordered one of their salads. We went to the drink center where you serve yourself with your choice of soda or tea and went to a booth. We were a bustling lunch crowd but the sound level is not noisy enough where you couldn't have a nice conversation with friends. Our food arrived in about 5 minutes. I went to the condiment center to get some cheese and tobasco sauce for my soup. My friend's salad was served in a huge bowl. My club sandwich seemed a tad small or maybe it was because they cut it in half? It was surprisingly warm and tasted delicious! It had smoked ham, oven-roasted turkey, bacon, swiss cheese, cheddar cheese, tomatoes, romaine lettuce and topped with mayo and honey mustard which they claim is made from scratch. Like I said it tasted very good. My tomato soup was also very good. It was also slightly warm, thick and tasted homemade. The side of coleslaw was excellent. It was mayo (not vinegar) based and was well balanced with no overbearing mayo flavor. You get a numbered card when you order and a server brings your order to your table. There were servers that would walk around clearing tables and assisting customers. They have a convenient stand-up cooler located near the front door that stocks containers of their salads, sides and sandwiches. It's perfect for running in and grabbing a quick to-go meal. This Newk's opened pretty recently. After much debate, I copied my dinner companion and got the half-sandwich and salad deal for around $8. I wouldn't say the menu items were especially memorable or unique, but they're solid. I thought the sandwich was a little too mini but at least the large salad and free breadsticks from Italy helped to soften the blow. The condiment station was very impressive. It's not everyday that you see capers for the taking. Last but not least, the peanut butter crispy was fantabulous. Just like if a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup had a baby with a Rice Krispies Treat. I have visited this Newk's location at least 50 times in the last 5 1/2 years of working in Homewood. They have come so far in that time! They have survived Covid-19 when no one wanted to work and customers couldn't dine in. They have totally renovated and changed their dining area. They have revamped their menu and the ways to order. I love the Vestavia location for many reasons. First, your order is always going to be correct. Second, the employees they have landed (most surprisingly during Covid) are great! They make sure your food is correct, they always ask how you're doing, and they'll even take your plate for you when you're finished. They have the best salads around, and that's even with Chopt being right down the street. The garden salad is still my favorite even with all of their new fancy salads, I still go back to the OG (I think its their ranch ). I love their sandwiches so much! The turkey avocado and Newks Q are notable. Their pizzas have changed but are still the best, the Newks Q pizza is notable. I have been to Newk's a good bit and several times to this location. I'll start out with...the PROS: -the layout of the restaurant is spacious and clean -the service is usually quick -they have a grab n go option to take certain items home vs dine in -the Newk's Q Sandwich is HEAVENLY. However, it is the only item I like ...which brings me to..... the CONS: -the salads are easily ones I could make at home and I feel like they throw lettuce and toppings out of a bag that sometimes aren't fresh. I have had multiple salads and most of them are just not tasty and sometimes ingredients are left out. -The prices on some menu items are a little high for the portion you get( especially the salads) -The pizzas are ok-smaller than you would expect. I'll go to my favorite pizza joint downtown if I want pizza. Overall it is ok-not great but not bad either. I would eat the Newk's Q sandwich because it is on point but that is about it. read more

So at dinner with my family and 3 Out of 4 of us got soup. Well when the food arrived the bowls had so much spillover. My Grandmother's bowl looked like it had been dipped in the soup. Not only did they not clean off the bowls, they didn't bring us spoons. When they brought us utensils only two of the three had spoons, so again I had to ask for a spoon. I used to go to the Inverness location, but since they closed I came to the Vestavia one Thursday night. They closed the wrong store. The service was awful. I ordered a shrimp and avocado salad, and the shrimp was frozen solid. Shouldn't the person who's making the salad notice something like that?? I noticed that my food was placed on the counter and it wasn't until 5-10 minutes later that it was brought to me. The whole staff seemed chaotic from what I could see. Newks has the best Diet Coke in town. Always fresh with the perfect ratio of carbonation to syrup. This Newks is always busy during lunchtime but the wait for food is very short. They seem to be very organized and the staff is always friendly. I love the Toasted Turkey Sandwich and Ceasar Salad combo. I order this often and it's surprisingly consistent in size and taste. The booths are very comfy and even though it's a very large space, the restaurant seems warm and inviting.
