I am writing to bring to your attention a deeply concerning experience my family and I had at your restaurant. My wife, our toddler, and I visited Newport Grill for dinner, but we were forced to leave due to the extremely unprofessional behavior of our waiter. When we advised the waiter that the appetizer we received was not what we had ordered, his response was highly unprofessional. He went too far when he involved my young daughter in the situation, to the point where I felt it was best forme and my family to leave the restaurant immediately. I do want to mention that the on-duty manager was very apologetic and handled the situation with the utmost professionalism. We went ahead and paid for the food we had received before leaving. However, the waiter's conduct was entirely unacceptable, especially regarding how he interacted with our child. I hope this matter will be addressed appropriately with the staff member involved. read more

I have been to Newport Grill a few times, and I have loved my experiences every time. The ambiance is nice and contemporary. The food and drinks are delicious - I love their kale salad, and I am not even a fan of kale. The Amaretto Sour is one of the best I have ever had, and the filet and the halibut are also fantastic. They fly in their fish six days a week, so even for a super landlocked city like Wichita, the seafood here is top shelf. On the last visit, we had Chelsea as our server, and she made our visit extra special with her amazing care and service. I look forward to visiting Newport again. read more

Nice, cute and intimate restaurant on the water front. Came here for dinner while in town for work. Food and drinks were good, our server needs improvement. He really didn't know the menu very well and it showed. Other than that he was a nice kid. I ordered the cod fish with mashed potatoes and broccolini 10/10. My boss ordered the Ribeye and Whipped Potatoes medium rare 10/10. For my cocktail I had a blueberry lemon drop. 10/10. You know me. No matter where I'm at. I'm looking for the seafood. thi spot sits on a little lake with ducks all around, so I had to sit outside. There might be a chance for me to chuck a piece of bread in the lake for a duck's snack, despite all the signs that say "don't feed the ducks." I am a child. I started with the crabcakes and the shrimp straws. Both were excellent. The crabcakes were very crispy on the outside. I then moved into the cod. It was over these crispy potatoes and I liked how everything went together. Wichita is trying to be coastal and it's working for them. read more

I have experienced this before once when I was at an establishment out of town but never in Wichita.. definitely taken back.. Update: I called the owner Noah and he seemed offended during our initial call when I asked for him to review the footage, but he called me back and offered the extra fund's reissued since he saw the error. I changed the rating for the correction but am still slightly taken back by the initial response from the owner. BUT after meeting him in person, the correction, and the apology, I will be back. The food was good and I do enjoy their oysters. I'll give them another try soon. read more

My fiancé and I went here and they failed to warn us about any possible allergens in the food. We asked what the ingredients were but the staff either doesn't know, or wouldn't disclose it. I had to push for the check and alerted them of our situation, and the only person to take it serious was the host, everyone else was just nonchalant. My fiancé ended up going into anaphylactic shock and I had to rush him to the ER. I called the manager trying to figure out what possibilities it could be but he was rude and dismissive acting like it was nothing they had did. We suspect it came from the appetizer because his throat became itchy after it, but again, without being notified of ALL the ingredients, we had to just guess. Definitely not coming back and would not recommend spending 200+ for careless staff, subpar food and negligence. read more

Ordered side of asparagus and mushroom risottos. Got 3 small asparagus tips. Lobster is most expensive on the menu but was small and it was served room temp. Rolls and butter were really good. The food was wonderful. The server was kind, but the pace of service was horrible. We made a reservation for 7:45. Arrived and they said we did not have a reservation under our name, a manager came and pulled it up by the phone number and found our reservation. They had totally misspelled our name including the first name. Using V instead of B and e instead of a. I spelled my name twice. They said the pace was slow and we would have to wait for an available table, or they had a high top. We said we would wait. It was only about 10 minutes. Our server came to the table and took our drink and appetizer order and they were both out crazy quick. We had crab cakes which were rich and not too heavily breaded. We then ordered a wedge salad, the Cod, soup, and Halibut. Here is where it began going wrong. She said I'll get that right up. Then proceeded to take orders at other tables talking with the patrons for 10-15 minutes before placing our order. We didn't get our soup and salads for almost 25 minutes. The fish came out immediately after our salad/soup was done. The food was perfectly cooked and seasoned. If there was not another server bringing water, we would have been without water. Our server spent a lot of time talking to certain tables and other servers and was not really diligent. She came by with dessert options and said our salad and soup would be comped because it should not have taken so long and we could have our dessert on the restaurant. That was the right thing to do, and why I gave four stars. The funny thing was, it wasn't the kitchens fault; it was how she delayed dropping orders. She did it again with our desserts which we ordered to go. She went to two other tables and took orders and got them water, then went up front to talk to other servers. It took another 15 minutes for our boxed dessert to show up. Great restaurant, great food, that one particular server needed some training. But she did the right thing and we saw all the other staff really hustling. Worth a visit. read more

We decided to try this restaurant before we left Wichita. It is situated in a great location by the park and shopping area. Most guests get to view the park and the band outside while dining. The band played some nice slow music, nothing loud. This is a beautiful and well-maintained restaurant. The staffers seemed energetic and well-trained. We had a girl named Alexis as our waitress, and she was quick, professional, and friendly. Hubby ordered Wedge Salad, and I had Arugula Salad to start. We liked the arugula salad better than the wedge salad. My Arugula Salad is served with goat cheese and Apple slices. Then Hubby got Creekstone RibEye, and I had Trout Amandine. My Trout was exceptional! I loved it! Even Hubby enjoyed it too, although he's not a fish eater. The double vegetable served with my fish was awesome because broccolini is my favorite vege and Hubby's dinner came with it too. Last but not least, we ended the chapter with banana bread pudding! It was amazing! Anything that makes me plum is amazing! I can't believe they allowed me to order this unbelievably enticing dessert. Who's in charge? Anyway, we had a great time dining in Wichita! My family wanted a fine meal after a busy week. Stopped in to get pasta and fish to go. Took a long time to be greeted at the bar, bartenders were inattentive and apathetic. Finally got my order in and specified 'to go'. While waiting I had oysters and a salad. They were good. One meal was soon brought out not packaged to go. I asked them to pack it up and bring it out with my pasta also to go. After all that T hey had not put my pasta order in so I had to wait another 20 minutes. Once home food was cold and portions were tiny - way overpriced! To top it off the Waitstaff at the bar were very aloof pandering to obvious regulars. This used to be a family go-to place, one of the best in Wichita. Not anymore changes are badly needed. I'm not going back. read more

We have been going to Newport Grill for special occasions for over 15 years and for most of those years the food was great. However over the last couple of years the food selection has become stale with little variety and the food itself is not as good. I had the Alfredo with shrimp and the pasta was stuck together with the glue that was supposed to be the sauce. This is my go-to dish but I was very disappointed, and I also witnessed two other diners in the restaurant who had the same dish and the same problem. I don't mind paying a high price for high quality food but Newport Grill won't be on our list for quite some time. read more

My wife & I along with our son & his wife and our daughter went to Newport Grill to celebrate our 67th anniversary & our son & daughter-in-laws 34th anniversary. Overall we were very underwhelmed. The service was very good other than we had to wait a long time for our food. We were told we got behind a big party. Our food had obviously sat under heating lamps for some time. Two of the meals had to be sent back and two others probably should have been. Appetizers were so so. The crab cakes were mostly cake which was disappointing. No recognition of our anniversaries although I told them when I made reservations. Had been there several times before and were pleased but this trip will probably be our last. read more

Wait staff was rude and condescending. Food was nearly inedible. Bisque was chalky with enough pepper fill a mill. Steak was shoe leather. When issues were brought forward, staff refused to assist while owner and waiter kept repeating their "Medallion." The business was loud, crowded, waiters kept bumping into tables while regulars ruined what minimal ambience was afforded by the pond-side eatery. Have dined in "Medallion" restaurants from California to Connecticut. Long John Silvers would have given this sorry excuse for a seafood restaurant a run and positive Texas Roadhouse would have never served such a poor cut of meat. read more

This place was phenomenal! My boyfriend took me here for my birthday celebration and my jaws dropped at how beautiful this place is! Their customer service and hospitality was spectacular. We were greeted and accommodated for a window booth, to see the view. The view was very nice from the window, see the lights and the little lake. This place was very upscale. They will hang your coats for you. We reserved a table and they had it ready for us with wine glasses sitting on the table. Our server, Holly, was amazing. She gave amazing recommendations! She helped us order literally everything and was super helpful. They have happy hour at 9-10 as well. Cocktails for $6 and House Wine for $5. For starter, we had the crab cakes. It was made with real crab! It was so delicious. We had their soup of the day! We had a cream of mushroom soup with andouille sausage. It was so good my boyfriend didn't want me to finish it all before the meal or else I'll get full. The portions of the soup are huge! Everything is fresh. I was told their fish are caught to be served up to 48 hours. To drink, I had a Chardonnay and my boyfriend had a "It'll creep up on you" cocktail. He said it was very strong! Their menu is extensive and descriptive and has wine pairing suggestions with every food. For our dinner, I had a Faroe Salmon. I liked it but wish I did without the ravioli! I had a side of asparagus and it was so soft and delicious. Perfectly seasoned. My boyfriend had the Bistro Steak. He really enjoyed the French fries that came with it. He loved the fry seasoning. He says the steak was perfect! Holly recommended the Baileys Irish Cream Cheesecake! She brought it out with a candle. That was one of the most cheesiest, moist, and creamiest cheesecake I've ever had in my life. It was so good. The scoop of ice cream I ordered to pair it with also added a kick to the flavor. Overall, I was very happy with my experience at Newport Grill. I loved the atmosphere. From the moment we walked in to the moment we left, we were greeted with the most friendliest smiles and nicest people ever. The boy at the host stand took our pictures for us by their beautiful Christmas tree and was very sweet. Thank you again to the boy for taking our pictures in different angles and making sure it looked right! We were both so happy and had a great time. Will definitely be back. We were there for the Thanksgiving dinner. Not good at all. The prime rib was raw, I've had very good prime rib in my life and this was the worst I'm sad to say. The mashed potatoes tasted like box. The carrots were even poorly cooked. How do you fail on carrots? The desserts were substandard to say the least. Oh dear, what a disappointment. The turkey, green bean casserole and the pecan pie were truly the only edible items served. On a regular day this place is great! read more

We took a risk with trying the steak tartare but were pleasantly surprised with how delicious it actually was. Would definitely recommend anyone slightly interested in it to give it a try. The salad and the cod sandwich were underwhelming afterwards. The sandwich fell apart after one bite and the bread was soggy. If I'm paying top dollar for food, I don't want my appetizer and bread started to be the star of the show. I was expecting to be wowed. We asked for a room for a party, for Sunday brunch. We asked for a private room. But when we got there was a big room opened with an another huge family. And the kids where so loud and rude and running around our table and body slamming into each other and the parents where not controlling them. And it was ruining my friends birthday brunch. Note: we asked 2 servers a couple times to put up the devider and they said no. Food was decent. Service was good about clearing plates and bringing coffee/water. I will not be back agian. read more

My family and I came in for lunch on a Tuesday a couple of weeks ago and left pretty disappointed with our experience. As someone who works in the fine-dining restaurant industry, I understand a random weekday lunch shift being casual and relaxed and that wasn't our issue. We all ordered something from the lunch combo part of the menu and none of us were overly impressed with the food. I ordered the shrimp tacos and halfway through the second taco I pulled an inch long black hair out of the shrimp I had bit into. I have long blonde hair so I know it was not mine, and no one else at the table handled my food so it did not come from them. I immediately lost my appetite and could not eat after that. I reported it to my server and she had the manager come over to see if I wanted something else to eat. The manager started off by saying "well our chef has hair as long as mine" (he was essentially bald) and kind of laughed it off. This was essentially saying that it wasn't from anyone working there, and came off accusatory as if me or one of my family members dropped their hair in my food. This was frustrating because the hair was clearly cooked into the shrimp. There was no apology, no sincerity in the manager's tone, and it felt like they could not care any less. Finding a hair in food is not the biggest deal in the world, but the unprofessionalism from the manager about the situation is what ruined the experience. The interaction put my whole family off and had us just wanting to leave. The manager, after basically doing nothing, went back to the table behind us and spent the rest of the time sampling wines, seemingly unbothered. For a "fine dining" restaurant I just would expect the service and management to perform at a higher level and was simply disappointed. You go to a nice establishment, expecting nice treatment. Besides that, our server was nice but had 1 inch long stiletto nails that came into contact with some of the food on the plates as she set them down on the table. Just a little off-putting and not exactly the most hygienic nails to have working with food. Food is okay, could be better for the prices. Would have maybe returned but management was quite frankly rude and dismissive and for that reason we won't be returning or recommending anyone else dine here. read more
