Decided to celebrate my birthday with family and friends on a week night. We came in close to 5, were seated immediately and started to look at the menu. Now keep in mind that The Hangar is more of a nice quality restaurant. With this in mind, our server came to the table in a tshirt and jeans. Not the dressy uniform that they used to wear. We came in to check out the happy hour menu and order steak. She informed us that they no longer had a happy hour and no drink specials. So we ordered our dinners. My steak came well done, not the medium rare I ordered and our loaded baked potatoes were not loaded. We did receive a new steak, everyone else had already finished eating and the server brought us the fixings for our loaded potatoes. We had booked a reservation for a party of 18 for our prom night. Upon arrival we were handed a limited menu. There was no warning online or verbally confirmed when placing the reservation. Two appetizers, two side salads, and three entrees. Had the entire restaurant been under the same restrictions, it would have been a whatever moment. They were not. We were forced to limit our options because of our party size. Those who got the salmon didn't enjoy, and those who got the steak complained about it. They picked some of the most expensive items for the limited menu and wouldn't budge. It also took half an hour to get our checks. The management should be ashamed of the business they run. Had we had access to the full menu, we likely would've generated more revenue than with the 7 total options. The final slap in the face was a mandatory 20% gratuity already added onto the tab. Our group has agreed that next year we'd rather go to Taco Bell. read more

In town for work for one night so I walked into this place. It was not packed by any means which is usually my sign. However, I thought I would at least try an app and see how it went from there. Sure glad I stayed! The ENTIRE staff was amazing! I was talking with the bartender, chefs and of course my waitress and they are some of the sweetest people ever. The staff were wonderful. We called for reservations and were immediately put on the list. When we arrived we were seated almost immediately. My prime rib dinner was excellent. I had just gotten into town and was starving. Online showed just a 5 minute wait. When we got there, we were told that it would be an hour wait, due to a party of about 15 people. The waitress did seat us at the bar and served us a few drinks. Over an hour passed, there were only a few other small groups in the place. Moving along to our steak dinners nearly two hours later, and we were greeted with hard green beans and horrid mac & cheese. We didn't really eat that. The steaks were okay but overcooked. The waitress never refilled the water and even after asking for the check, she remained behind the bar for quite some time. We went up and paid at the bar, then left. This was the most expensive worst meal I have ever had. We arrived at 12:30 and were told they were only serving from buffet. He showed us before we agreed, which looked okay. My mistake was that I didn't ask him the price beforehand. We were in a hurry. There were covered steamers with three meat options... ground beef patties with onions and green peppers, grilled chicken breast, and a Sriracha chicken. The meat was overcooked and not anything special. They had a squash casserole that was brown/slimy on the underside, and a Mediterranean rice which was steamed white rice with carrots and peas (just like the frozen mixed veggies at the grocery store). The salad bar consisted of wilted lettuce greens, hummus, a macaroni and olive salad that wasn't good, and a mystery salad that I didn't touch. I ate the hamburger patty, lettuce and the rice. Desert was the small cakes (like you see at the Chinese buffet... but at least they offer lots of options like fruit, pudding, jello, sugar biscuits, and ice cream!!). These had a gummy layer, like they had been around awhile. So call me stunned speechless when he told me the price was $18.99. I blurted out "per person?!" And when he said yes, I said "you're kidding, right?" DO NOT make the same mistake that I did!! We should have stopped at the Chinese buffet next door where I am sure they would have had SO many options, including seafood. So disappointed. I'm hangry after tonight's nightmare excuse or a dinner lol Hangar One Steakhouse OH MY GOD what happened??? Terrible doesn't even begin to explain! The last time we went was a few years ago and it was fabulous and delicious and in my opinion, an overlooked gem. Today was AWFUL! From the moment we arrived the ambiance was off. Service (lack thereof) was much less than subpar. They were dead, which should've been the first clue but it's early in the week and has a higher price point so it was semi expected. It took way too long for us to get our drinks from a bar that had no other customers and we had to practically beg for bread & butter and steak knives....we were at a steakhouse.....and ordered steak....we were expected to order nearly right away after arrival despite the menu being unclear and having grammatical errors. Once the begged-for-bread was received it was hard as a rock and not able to be cut. It was also COLD. Not room temp but cold like wut?? Our server was very uncharismatic and impersonable and acted as if we were a burden by simply being patrons. We each added sautéed mushrooms for $8 and we got a few slices of soggy mush. We ordered sirloin STEAKS (both ordered as medium) at a steakhouse and got two completely different cuts of meat. One was so overcooked it was like jerky and literally so difficult to cut with the knife we pleaded for. The other was raw and bloody. We asked for it to be cooked longer, because we wanted to be able to enjoy our $50 orders. It came back with a tough and blackened outside while still red and rare on the inside. The vibes in the restaurant are just off and uncomfortable. Very uninviting. Gross, disgusting, overpriced. Don't go and get scammed. Thankfully there was one person there who was kind and tried to remedy the situation. I expressed my gratitude to her and wish I would've asked her name. Fly, to say the least. The hummas was unlike anything I've ever had. The two types of pita are a perfect match. Was in town for a funeral and we found this restaurant on Yelp. It was almost empty around 6;30 pm and still not sure why? Great nostalgic place with a menu that has something for everyone. I spend a SIGNIFICANT amount of time in Wichita on business, sometimes weeks at a time. I have to say Hangar One Steakhouse is one of the most, if not the most, Yelped restaurant in Wichita. Which is to say a lot because Wichitans - while being exquisite people - just don't use Yelp much, no idea why. Ok, rant over, back to the actual review. Hangar One Steakhouse was a great find, and I will definitely go back. The ambiance is dark woods, tables, plush leatherbound booths, and of course the bar. The aviation theme is cozy, with WW2 era planes hanging from the ceiling it's a little kitschy but somehow cool. The menu is extensive and has a good list of appetizers, steaks and chops, seafood like lobster (which I am trying next), and has happy hour (4pm-6pm) specials every day. I had the 8 oz. filet mignon with veggies and a baked potato and it was delish. Service was attentive - I ate at the bar and the server was very very new at the job and it showed, but she was so nice. Anyway, if visiting Wichita (because locals don't yelp so I don't know what to do about that) and want a good steak or seafood in a cozy place, go here. read more

Family took us here that evening to keep the theme and it didn't disappoint. Nice 2-piece jazz group playing that evening. The outside looks like an airport tower. You can take the elevator to the top and there is a bar there, which I was too full to go to but always next yr. An employee having obviously used the bathroom, rushes out of the stall with his phone in his hands and leaves without washing his hands. I'm a visitor to this city, so not familiar with the rules, but no employees were wearing masks. This is late April 2021. Perfect name for an a restaurant by the airport Food was amazing!! The first time in my life that my filet mignon was cooked perfectly the first time around. Salmon was the best my husband has ever had. Garlic potato cakes are crispy on the outside and oh so creamy on the inside. Nice relaxing atmosphere with the most comfortable booths ever.
