I got a dashcam installed, and while (so far) everything functions well, I was a bit puzzled by the position of the dash cam. It was put right in the middle of my windshield, which caused quite a visual distraction, and depending on who tells you, could be against California code regarding dashcam placement. When I got home, I repositioned the camera to one of the spots recommended by the manufacturer, next to the rearview mirror and out of direct line of sight. Another questionable choice, they cut a slot into the plastic that covers my cruise control wires instead of routing cables through the already present gap between the rear view mirror and plastic cover. [[HIGHLIGHT]]This could be on me as well, as I never discussed preferred camera position with the business.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I took a picture of the cut they made, as well as a picture with a red X to show where the camera was originally placed. Those choices, while a bit puzzling didn't really bother me enough to go back as ultimately I wanted my camera to be properly connected, and cables nicely routes and invisible. Contacted Newport Sound for a quote to hardwire a VIOFO 2-channel dash cam on a Q4 and BlackVue 2-channel + Blackvue backup battery pack on an S3. Both products brought in by me. The installation started on June 5th 2026. I was called and told it was ready the next day. I went to pick it up and the screen was not only severely off center but also crooked. I was told that the dash kits for these older cars just don't fit right anymore. They also had not installed the aux cable and the USB cable. So after developing a laundry list of issues I dropped it off again to them on June 8th. They worked on it that day and the next day and I picked it up on June 9th. The screen was a little bit straighter but still off center. And they had not connected the aux cable and the USB cable. Now he has to order a part for that. I finally got word that the part was in on June 29th and I took it in on July 1st to be installed. [[HIGHLIGHT]]This time I didn't deal with Mike, I dealt with Ryan. Ryan was awesome. He had a great installer as well, and it was done that day. When I went back to pick it up on July 1st, everything looked great and everything was installed.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I wish I had dealt with Ryan from the start. I also wish I could give Ryan a separate review than Mike who had first started the job. Even as efficient as Ryan was, I will never take one of my cars to this facility again. I initially contacted Newport Sound to diagnose an issue related to my custom setup in my vehicle, Michael T reached out and explained in great detail what he could do, along with his recommendations to not only fix my issue, but prolong the life of my system in my vehicle. Ryan in the front was very easy-going and great to speak with, answered all of my questions & concerns, along with giving me recommendations and feedback on what I could improve as well! I originally walked in only wanting a diagnostic but left spending more than anticipated, however I am extremely happy with the service and care they provided to not only me, but my vehicle as well. I came to get an anti-theft immobilizer system installed in my Nissan 370Z. Make sure to plan ahead. There's not much of a lobby besides a couple chairs and the traffic in this area of Newport really sucks. I went home and came back during my first appointment. The second time I stayed in the area and there's not much to do besides a few eating/drinking places. I also got a rear camera installed in a Toyota Camry. Clean and professional install. Once I got home I was a bit disappointed with the camera angle because I couldn't really see my rear bumper within the camera frame. I'm a car guy. Car guy's know car guys. The guy's at Newport sound? Car guys. I recently shipped my 1988 Nissan Pathfinder here to Socal from The Bay, and it's so old school there's no FOB; and the only way to unlock the doors is by inserting the key in the door. It's barbaric. So what better way to upgrade than with a keyless entry system, as well as remote start? Called up Mike, and he quoted me, and we were set. I was cancelled on the first time, which irked me at first, but Mike explained that they were in a transitioning phase, and they didn't have the personnel to finish the vehicle. No worries, I prefer the people I deal with to be honest, because it's easier to be empathetic, so we rescheduled for 2 weeks later. Came back on the day of install, took the entire day, and we were good. 3 days later, the Remote start starts malfunctioning. I call Mike, he said bring it in, and he ended up swapping out the brain on the system. Overall I was very happy with the process, and the services rendered by Mike and Newport Sound. Had them reinstall a stereo in my Mitsubishi. Nothing complex. Paid a decent price $100. However after the install, I noticed my desk lights no longer worked. They blamed it on blown bulbs. So recently I took the car back to the dealership where they discovered the radio installer left wires exposed from the radio, resulting in shorts and multiple blown fuses. I had an incredibly frustrating experience with the stereo installation service at this place, and I feel compelled to share my disappointment. It was a simple job for a 2016 Honda Accord, yet it turned into a series of visits, calls, and a never-ending cycle of issues. First off, the process required multiple visits and endless phone calls just to schedule appointments and address the numerous issues that came up during the installation and after every additional visit. It felt like I was constantly chasing them to get things done, and correctly, which was a major inconvenience and waste of my time. To make matters worse, the level of incompetence and lack of expertise displayed by the car stereo business was ridiculous. I was left to navigate and troubleshoot most of the problems on my own by resorting to Google and reaching out to the manufacturer of the stereo and harness. It's unacceptable that I had to become my own technician and provide solutions to the car stereo business owner. It's absolutely baffling that a supposed professional car stereo business couldn't provide adequate support or guidance for their own work. The fact that an amateur installer worked on my car speaks volumes about their lack of professionalism. After the third visit, when they claimed to have finished working on it, I discovered that the USB ports were carelessly placed on the floor panel instead of where my original stereo had them, right by the cigarette port. It was sloppy and careless work, showing a complete disregard for attention to detail and basic knowledge of proper installation procedures. The owner should have gotten his best man to work on my car, and have some quality control in place to ensure everything was in working order so the customer (me) is satisfied with the work that was done according to our agreement. By that point, I had already wasted significant time, money, and energy on attempting to resolve the numerous issues that arose. I was so frustrated with the entire experience that I made the difficult decision not to go back and fix the USB ports which would have required a fourth visit. Their sloppy work is completely inconsistent with the positive reviews this business supposedly receives. Save yourself the time, money, and headaches. Look elsewhere for a reliable and competent stereo installation service. This review is long overdue, but I hope it prevents others from going through the same awful experience I had to endure.
