We sat outside on the front patio and enjoyed people watching and a lively volleyball game happening across the street. We were greeted with smiles and positive energy. The News Stand Cafe is such a cute spot, with fun themed decor throughout the restaurant that gives it a lot of character. Our waiter was extremely nice and helpful, which definitely made the experience better. We started with the mozzarella sticks, which came with a sweet Coca-Cola dipping sauce. The sauce was definitely interesting...very sweet and almost caramel-like. Personally, I'd pass on it and ask for a regular marinara instead. The mozzarella sticks were pretty good otherwise - crispy and great size. For my main, I ordered the classic chicken sandwich, which was recommended by our waiter. Unfortunately, it didn't really live up to the recommendation for me. The sweet heat flavor was pretty underwhelming, and the chicken itself could have used more seasoning. The French fries were the best part of the plate. Overall, I didn't love everything I ordered, but I did enjoy the atmosphere and the service. Growing up in South Florida, I spent my whole life coming here. After moving away 15 years ago, I worried it may have lost its touch. I couldn't have been more wrong. Service is pleasant but laid back, and they still have the a20% automatic gratuity. All that being said, this Sunday's visit definitely earned it and an extra. I stopped by for lunch this Sunday Beach Day, after checking out their much streamlined new menu. It's been reduced some since the days of yore, but since my friends know I had been fiending a good red sauce pasta dish, their Volcano Chicken Parm caught my eye. I sat down, ordered my (pretty decently blended) mojito, and sipped it while people watching. Next thing I know, my server brings a large plate with grilled chicken occupying major amounts of plate real estate, a helping of pasta and a big pot of something. This delicious melted bechamel of melted cheese and red sauce was the perfect blend of "Sunday Gravy" that would have another famous (cinematic) entrepreneur (the owner of Satriale's #iykyk) very happy. It was well flavored and very generously portioned. I did leave a little space for the bread pudding waffle dessert (hit the spot and could be a meal itself) as a closing shot of Wooford Reserve. I recently visited this restaurant with my elderly parents, who were visiting me. Unfortunately, what should have been a nice dinner turned into an extremely unpleasant experience. When we arrived, the music was blaring so loudly that it was physically uncomfortable and we could barely hear one another speak. We were the only customers in the restaurant, yet the volume was completely unreasonable. I immediately explained to the bartender, who was standing near the hostess stand, that the music needed to be turned down or we would not be able to stay and eat. He told me he needed to speak with the manager. The manager then arrived, and rather than addressing the situation professionally, the manager, bartender, and hostess began gossiping about us directly in front of us. They ultimately agreed to turn the music down, and we decided to stay. Unfortunately, after we ordered and our food was brought to the table, the music was turned back up extremely loud. At that point, it felt as though our concerns had been deliberately ignored after we had already committed to staying and ordering. What was especially upsetting was the combination of the staff discussing us openly in front of us and then allowing the music to become excessively loud again. We were there with elderly parents and simply wanted to have a comfortable dinner where we could actually hear each other talk. As a Miami Beach local, I find this particularly disappointing. We were literally the only customers dining at the restaurant, so I would have expected the staff to make some effort to provide a welcoming experience and accommodate a very reasonable request. In hindsight, we should have simply left when the situation first occurred. I hope management takes this feedback seriously because the way this was handled was unprofessional, disrespectful, and completely unnecessary. read more

We have enjoyed breakfast at the News since late 90's. Sad when it closed in the Pandemic and delighted finding it reopened at the same location. Nothing stays the same but Valentines Breakfast today felt great. My wife loves the yogurt and fruit bowls. She suggests vanilla yogurt. I had the 'Big Breakfast'. Next time french toast. They accommodated us without an issue and we sat outside and enjoyed the lovely scenery and fans they had outside to keep you comfortable. Our server, Hugo, was great! We love the News Cafe! Miami south beach classic! This time around I got the burger and my partner ordered the fish and chips. Breakfast with a side of politics! This is the quintessential SOBE breakfast place. The staff tending to the table was courteous and the food was adequately prepared; Bloody Marys were giant and delicious. We did have to sit through (The Hill News) a partisan TV show during a Christmas morning visit. Should leave politics out of dining, unless you want to make 60% of the country uncomfortable.
