I have used Newton plumbing on two occasions: One was to add a copper water line to my fridge when the plastic line the installer added became disgusting and leaky. The second was when they replaced the drain in my bathtub. They found shoddy work and an incorrect drain installed by a prior plumber, and fixed it. No more backups since then (pre-covid). I was gonna buy a particular skirted toilet, and Scott begged me not to buy it, sharing a guarantee that if it was installed, I would be seeing them again when it failed. So he cut his own throat on that install to save me a headache. Honest guy. I will use again in my next crisis or install. read more

I really appreciate a company that goes the extra mile to satisfy an unhappy customer. I recently heard from Newton Plumbing--they had seen my unfavorable review and weren't comfortable with leaving a customer so dissatisfied. When he called, he explained that not all plumbers work alike (which I completely understand), and this particular plumber was probably technically following protocol. However, he understood why I felt overcharged, so he apologized and offered to refund everything over the $59 flat-rate for drain-clearing. Sure enough, within the week I had received a check in the mail. I realize that the services of one employee don't necessarily reflect the work of the entire company, and judging from other reviews and especially this recent customer service, I now have faith that this is the case. I only wish more companies realized the benefit of good customer service, because this is one dissatisfied customer who would be willing to give Newton Plumbing another chance. We've been using Newton Plumbing for a couple years now and they are the BEST. This morning, sewage started bubbling up in the shower and bathtub. I called Newton and they showed up by the afternoon. Let me preface by saying that these guys did a fantastic job and actually cleaned my drain (unlike Scheulke, bleh). The problem is that they totally tried to rip me off. They never qouted a price before starting the work, but it states pretty clearly on the website that there is a $59 special to unclog a drain. The regular price for this service is $89. Why then did Jose the plumber tell me that it's $149? As soon as I mentioned the website, he backed off saying "really? Ok, ok, no problem". Did he just throw out a number and see if I would go for it? Was it a sexist thing, like a girl can't possibly know the cost of such things as unclogging drains? Sooooo unacceptable. I would consider using this company again because they truly did a stellar job. However, if anyone shares a similar experience as I have had, there will be no chance of me calling them again or recommending this company to anyone else. Honesty goes far in building a lifetime customer base and I would have used Newton PLumbing exclusively had it not been for the shady practices. REALLY!!! a Plumber you can TRUST!!! REALLY!!! a Plumber who cares about their customer !! (even on Saturday) REALLY!!! a Plumber who follows through! What a great plumbing experience.....I called on a Friday was told That someone would come out on Saturday. When I asked abou tthe Saturday charges... Alex , the Newton Rep, ( very polite) said it was part of their normal Service. Saturday came and the plumber called to say he was on his way, On time! He reviewed my problems and indicated that he would call me first Thing Monday after researching a solution ( my problem was with a tankless Takagi System). On Monday I recieved a call in the morning, from Tony. He explained that although he was an expert at Noritz tankless but personally he wasn''t as strong yet with Takagi's . SO Instead of just trying to figure it out on my $$ he found me an Takagi trained Plumber and refered the work to them. I was so Impressed with this HONESTY I have refered Tony to many others already. I also needed some Gas line work which Newton /Tony DId do the work on this ... It was done as priced and on time. I have lived in Los Angeles for 12 years and we have used several plumbers. Today is the first time in 12 years that I felt like I received the level of service that I expect from a company. My dad owns a plumbing business on the east coast so I have very high expectations. Newton Plumbing exceeded those expectations today. It was easy to make an appointment. Scott was super friendly and listened to what I needed. I changed the appointment twice and they accommodated my schedule. Our technician Mike actually showed up early which was great. I showed him what needed to be fixed (and two other small issues that I had forgotten to mention on the phone) and he fixed everything in a timely manner. He communicated his progress to me throughout and now everything is fixed! They charged me a very fair amount for the work performed and I will definitely be calling them in the future. My automatic hot water/cold water filter next to my sink wouldn't turn off at 7:00 am on a Saturday morning. I called Newton Plumbing hoping they could quickly send a technician over (as I watched water being wasted and was freaking out!!) and although they didn't have anyone they could send immediately, the guy on the phone asked me to send him photos of what the unit looked like under the sink and then walked me through what to do to turn the water off. He was SO nice and patient, and I was able to turn the water off myself. I plan on following up with Newton Plumbing so they can help to permanently fix the issue, but this Saturday-morning quick fix was SO appreciated. THANK YOU! read more

Several years ago we had hired Newton Plumbing in order to replace a leaky gas pipe near the water heater. They replaced the gas pipe and charged a reasonable fee. So recently when the sewer line backed up I decided to give them a call. I'm sorry I did. Newton had dispatched a two man work team. These guys were unprofessional to say the least. I explained that I had problems with the toilet backing up and it was pretty obvious that the sewer line had backed up due to fecal matter remnants. They spent twenty minutes snaking out the sewer line then out of the blue stated that the problem stemmed from the communal lateral pipes falling apart. They also stated that since this pipe was located at the back of my property that I was responsible for it's maintenance. They continued on by saying that if I didn't replace the pipe that I would continue to have this problem. Given the fact that they didn't even insert a camera probe into the sewer line I became suspicious. I told them I would have to think about. I was able to figure out what caused the original clog a few months later, the tree roots from my neighbor's over grown tree (the tree is located a few feet from the municipal sewer line ) had invaded the sewer line. I came to the conclusion that the roots were causing the clog when I noticed that every time I flushed clorox down the toilet the leaves on my neighbor's tree turned yellow very quickly and then they would drop off. read more

This company claims they are "Open 24 Hours a Day" but this is not a true statement. I called them last night at 10:32 PM (and spoke with Rhonda) and again at 11:02 PM (and spoke with John) and NO ONE has returned my call yet. This was a true emergency. I was stranded by myself and my keys had fallen into a floor drain at a Grocery Store. I needed a plumber to snake out the drain and retrieve my keys. Here it is 14 HOURS LATER and NO ONE has even given me the courtesy of a call back. HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! read more

Avoid Newton Plumbing at all costs. If I could give them a 0 star if I could. The plumber arrived seemed friendly enough but completely inflated the price of my problem. He pretended that the job would take 4 hours at a cost of 1000 dollars to fix a leaking pipe. I stupidly trusted that that was true. The next day he did the repairs in less than an hour and a half. He refused to give a breakdown for what I was being charged and said that I had already agreed with the price. It was a complete con job. I will never make this mistake again. These guys are good! We had roots in our main line which led to backups in our bathrooms flooding the bathroom floor every couple of months. Rescue Rooters estimated $8k to replace the main line. Anyway we decided to try someone else and boy are we glad we did. Newton plumbing was recommended to us and i'm so glad we called. Their price to replace the main line sewer was reasonable so we decided to go for it. These guys are now our go-to plumbers and we have been recommending them to everyone. We really like Scott and his team. It's hard to find honest and decent contractors, i can't recommend these guys enough. read more

We've used Newton in the past, and when they've actually called back to schedule, they've been pretty good. But two times now when I've needed plumbing I've called at different times of the day, they take down my name and number each time, and never call back! Last time was this Friday at 5:11pm. The lady said they'd call me back later Friday. They can check their records or call logs to verify. I asked if she was sure they'd call because the previous time a few months back they never called me back and we had to use someone else. She said someone would definitely call me back Friday. Almost 24 hours later and no call back. Not sure if they check their Yelp, but this is ridiculous, maybe someone could bother to actually call me back and let me know if they're too busy for the job. I shouldn't have to call repeatedly or beg for their business when we've used them before without incident. read more

Disappointed! I was quoted a promotional price on the phone. Bath tub was not draining- it required a simple fix- 10 minutes on site and I was charged $260. The plumber was very rude. I asked him to explain the process as I wanted to be informed of what he intended to do, and he was short and not at all courteous. We have a 2nd floor condo, the people downstairs informed us they had a water stain on the ceiling of their bathroom. The HOA of the condo called someone from Newton in. The plumber that came over poked a 2 inch hole in the ceiling downstairs, and without ever really looking inside the hole, came to the conclusion that the brass "spill and overflow catch" was leaking. He would need to pull out a large portion of the ceiling to fix it. He also surmised that the dampness had caused a black mold problem which was very serious and dangerous, and would he'd need to wear protective breathing devices and hang plastic sheeting to ensure the mold didn't spread. Total cost $700, which didn't even include the necessary drywall work. We called in another plumber, who we have used before. In his estimation, he was baffled how the guy from Newton could have made such an estimation from such little information and suggested we cut a small hole in our apartment to have a look at the pipes behind the wall before we demolish a huge part of our downstairs neighbor's ceiling. Once open, we could plainly see that not only was the spill and overflow catch not brass (but plastic) as the guy from Newton had guessed, but the catch wasn't even the problem. Instead, it was a gap between the tile and tub spout that was allowing water to leak in fall down below. The fix was simply a new, better fitting spout. Oh, and once we could see inside the walls, there was absolutely no evidence of black mold to be seen anywhere. Total cost, parts and labor, $300. Thankfully we didn't have tear down a huge portion of our neighbor's ceiling to find out that the guy from Newton was clueless. Needless to say, I wouldn't recommend these using these guys. read more

Thanks to Newton Plumbing, $190 of my money went down the drain. I called them to come out and fix a leak in my ceiling. The guy they sent out told me the leak was coming from the fire sprinkler and I needed to call someone else to fix it because he wasn't licensed to work on fire sprinklers. So I called a company that specializes in fixing fire sprinklers, they charged me $190 only to tell me that no, it wasn't the fire sprinkler. Turns out it was a hot water pipe. I asked Newton Plumbing if they would reimburse me for the $190. They told me they would forward my request to management. I never heard back from them. I contacted them again and they said the owner was out of the office handling personal matters. Very frustrating. read more

Their guy came and saw the leak, thought he had a hose in his truck, called the office and supervisor wanted to charge $225 to change one leaky hose on top of the water heater. Instead, roommate went & bought the hose ( $17 at Home Depot) and it took less than 10 minutes to change. Their pricing - ripoff. read more

We used Newton Plumbing for a large emergency project to replace our hillside sewer line after a complete blockage, and I am happy with the results. The project started relatively small but grew as more blockages were found. I was looking over their shoulders the entire time, so I know that everything they found was real. The things that impressed me most about them was that everyone who worked on the project seemed to be genuinely concerned about our situation, and all were knowledgeable about plumbing (not just the supervisors). They answered all of my questions without complaint and were happy to show me what they were doing. It did take longer that initially expected because they had another similar job come up so they had to split the crews, but that can happen with any company given the emergency nature of their work. Because of the urgency of the situation I did not get competitive quotes, but from past experience with other companies I think that their prices were good. I would not hesitate to call them the next time I have a plumbing problem. read more

They fixed a leak in our old bathroom sink. Unfortunately, they didn't fix it properly and we didn't notice. It had been leaking under the cabinet for some time after the repair. They came and fixed it again and we had to ask them to fix the cabinet which had been damaged. They finally came and put in a new cabinet floor, but unfortunately, the damage was done and now we still smell the cabinet rot and need to get the whole cabinet replaced. read more

After 50 years of seeing the company trucks in my neighborhood I got smart and called them. I cannot believe the high level of service and workmanship I have had. Scott, the owner, has been on top of things, calling to inform me every step of the way, and the craftsmen he has working are excellent - clean, careful and very experienced. The repair was a new gas line (something you want done properly!) and their price was fair, the process clearly explained to me before the start and NO UP SELLING! Mike Diamond's man told me my sewer line was leaking which they had supposedly fixed less than 8 months ago!
