I wish I had read reviews before calling Roy E. Smith Plumbing. I had a faucet leak, thought I'd call a long-time local business, but they sent someone who didn't know how to remove the cartridge or the faucet, diagnosed that it was either one or the other (well, DUH), and left me with the unfixed, undignosed problem after only a half hour when the quote was $150 for the first hour. The subsequent plumber pulled off the faucet, figured out it was the hardware itself, and exchanged it for the faucet on my other sink, all within an hour. I've voiced my complaint to Jenny and am waiting for her reply. By my book, they owe me a half hour or money back. It seems, by other unsatisfied customers, that they're more interested in grabbing every dollar than being honest. Beware!! read more

These people are dishonest and do shoddy work. And the owner Jenny is also a landlord infamous for cheating the tenants. She tries to get away with as much as she can, does illegal rent increases, doesn't fix anything, misleads new tenants as she is currently doing, as its illegal to charge the last months rent and ask for a deposit equal to last months twice the legal amount, then she doesn't return it no matter how clean you leave it. She plays dumb. My dear friend, he was so misled, she pretends not to speak English, and she gives illegal rent increases constantly ignoring the Los Angeles laws in place.. She is so despised, that everyone in the area, all Neighbors, warn against her. Even the local drug dealer, she warns people don't rent from her. lol. Her so called 2 or 3 Hispanic handymen are rude and hostile and all named Juan, and appear to not be legal citizens, these so called plumbers seem not to be liscensed,, they do very shoddy plumbing work. my cousin called them, and they lied, overcharged, put in a shoddy water heater that was actually used, then they refused to change it out for the new one he paid for, they also didn't seal the gas pipes properly, and refused to refund. This is gas and could cause an explosion, and These so called plumbers, spy on her tenants which is an invasion of privacy and are on recently on camera entering the properties without notice to the tenants. On top of this, all the units are full of mold , ants, and termites. God forbid there is an earthquake cause her buildings will fall down. Don't use this company. you will be ripped off For any plumbing work. And def don't rent from Jenny . She doesn't care that all Tenants are people who have rights. Some day, this Jenny person, will be held accountable for her ongoing illegal rental increases. I think her real last name is Chen, not sure. So watch out dear renters And fellow neighbors. Absolutely dishonest and greedy. Jenny is a disgusting person that should NEVER be in charge of ANYTHING, let alone housing management. Completely drug her feet on the moving process and made us miss out on being able to move in on the first. She also conveniently goes in and out of being able to speak english properly, making every conversation impossible. This lady took $150 from us and is now refusing to respond or provide any documentation that our background checks were done because they probably weren't ever done!! Not only that, our card wasn't even charged to any sort of notable background check service, but was charged to "Roy E Smith plumbing"...Are you kidding me? I leave in Mar vista. I gave them one star just because they answer the phone and always have plumbers available to charge you $200 an hour to do a Mickey Mouse. And I thought they were amazing. I lost count how many times the came to my house. I found my self now after years with a huge problem just because they never diagnostic the proper one. I called them to see if they would be considered and send some one for a real estimate to do the re pipe and again they offer me plumbers out of their business ( looks like they are a Plummer's agency). A long overdue review. This company did Ok with the work but Jenny, one of owners made the experience so so difficult for no good reason. She would not cooperate on the permitting process. I needed to have the city do a routine inspection. She didn't want to sign the routine city forms. She said a number of things that were simply wrong and false. Things like we will have to be there with the city inspectors at $130 an hour. Ken should learn to not have Jenny ever talk to any customers. A ridiculously difficult job for imaginary nonexistent reasons. Terrible customer service, go elsewhere. read more

The worst experience I have ever had! Run as far as you can. I had them replace my water heater in June. 6 month after it broke. They refused the fix it because it wasn't their problem. Tells me to deal with the water heater company even though I bought the brand new water heater with them. I'm extremely frustrated and disappointed. Horrendous! We had an issue with our primary shower - it wasn't heating up properly, and when it does, the hot water comes/goes - we figured this was an issue with the thermostatic valve. We called Roy E Smith, and they arrived the next day - this prompt service is honestly the only reason we're giving even 1star. Our shower is a special one from Kohler, so the valve setup is a bit strange. If the plumbers didn't know how to handle it, we would've totally understood - we get it, it's not the standard shower, and we would've been happy to find someone else. Both the owner and another plumber came, and they spent more than 30mins fiddling around. They then left rather suddenly, and the plumber charged $195 for the session. They said that the shower was working again, so we took them at their word. No explanations for what they did, despite me asking - the plumber just said "we fiddled." But, guess which shower was ice cold later that night? We figured that perhaps they had changed the valable but not properly, or did some sort of fix to it that didn't take - after all, they spent half an hour there, and also charged us. They must have done something! So I called the company to ask about what they did, so I can tell another plumber what fixes had been tried before that failed. The rep that answered looked at the notes and said, "oh, they literally didn't do anything. They didn't know how to fix that special type of shower so they didn't touch it." You can imagine my frustration then. Even the rep was surprised that the owner charged us, saying, "oh you paid? Yea let me let the owner know and he'll refund you. You shouldn't have paid." Fast forward to now and I have yet to hear from the owner, despite having called multiple times over the last 1.5weeks. Multiple reps answered, each time with the same surprised, "oh, you paid? Sorry...let me let the owner know." It's...ridiculous. read more

Roy E Smith Plumbing came HIGHLY recommended to me. I have used them now 4 times to fix problems and to fix things that other plumbers/installers have screwed up. They have always come the same or next day. They are always on time and work fast. They are honest and never tell you something needs fixed/repaired that doesn't need it. The prices are incredible compared to other plumbing companies. I have had problems with many other plumbers in the past, so I really appreciate the awesome work they have done for us. Which is why I am puzzled by the older reviews. I recommend scrutinizing them carefully. Little to no info on these reviews. Fishy. Also, someone mentioned getting two plumbers instead of just one...um, we always get two. You are charged the same, so what's the problem? read more

Just got off the phone with Ken. Wow!!!! I don't think anyone has ever spoken so rudely to me in my entire life. There are too many plumbers in the world for me to deal with any type of rudeness and disrespect. And guess what Roy Smith plumbing, you're in the service industry so customer service is part of your job. I can't speak highly enough about this company. The owner, Ken, is responsive, knowledgable, kind, and has a good sense of humor. I called them for a leak behind my washing machine. He sent someone out immediately who diagnosed the problem and fixed the leak. He had to break through the floor to get at a pipe in the floor, but a couple days later, Ken sent out his guys to repair the floor. It looks perfect! Fast forward two weeks, water starts leaking out of my living room ceiling at 4:00pm. I call Ken. He sends someone over within the hour. After checking all the plumbing, and punching a few holes in the ceiling, the broken pipe is found and repaired. The plumber was here from 5-7 pm. No one said anything about overtime. Ken will be sending over his dry-wall guy to repair the ceiling. I love this company. They are reasonably priced and I love the one-stop service. No need to find someone to repair the damage done by the repairs. Ken has a guy for that! I can't recommend this company high enough. read more

Terrible experience with Roy E Smith Plumbing. I hired them to install a gas line to my new fire pit, and connect the fire pit - but when it wasn't working properly the next day, they were horrible to deal with. They came back for a 2nd visit and then told me that it needs a pressure regulator - something that was not mentioned upon installation, and would requite an additional $120+ to install. I asked if they could first check the pressure and tell me what the pressure is, but they refused, saying they only have 1 pressure gauge and it wasn't available and wouldn't be available for another 2 weeks until the owner returned from vacation. Turns out, it didn't even need a regulator and I spent a ton of time trying to diagnose an issue that they could have easily solved by taking a simple gas pressure reading. read more

I called the Roy E Smith team this morning at 11:00a and they fit me in at 3:00p same day--they were clean, got to work immediately, and were out within 30 minutes to clear what we learned was a small soap bottle that had been flushed and lodged in the toilet (thanks kids). Extremely courteous, and knowledgeable about household plumbing. They came recommended by a friend that owns multiple properties in LA, and did a great job. Gail took down my information, and kept me informed, calling again an hour ahead of time to let me know the team would be on time. I was able to plan my day, and still get things fixed. Pricing was similar to others I'd called. Hourly rate + parts at cost, and they worked quickly so I felt they respected my time and money. It's an honest, hardworking team. They didn't tack on extra fees left and right like some other plumbing companies do IE charging the advertised price but per foot of snaked drain. Please do yourself a favor and DO NOT use this company. Calling it a company is actually a bit of a stretch. A guy came out and was at my place for 30 minutes and turned in an hour and a half. I talked to the owner about the situation so he had his minion call me. She very aggressively let me know that I was mistaken and that it was impossible for their plumber to make a mistake since he had been with the company for 25 years. Need I say more? If you are keen on getting your blood pressure up rapidly, please call these guys and your desire will be granted. First let me say that our condo association has used Roy Smith for many years and they know our building quirks. I asked for a quote on making my shower over tub into a walk-in shower and Ken was just great. He arrived on time, was extremely knowledgeable and offered several great options to solve my situation. I have not yet had the pleasure of having actual work done but the quote process was very professional and Ken was a gentleman in every respect. A stubborn kitchen sink clog could not be taken care of by the well advertised guys in white. After unsuccessfully using his snaking device he said the only way to clear the drain line was with a hydro jet process which my HOA would have to approve. My HOA had me contact Roy E. Smith plumbing. They were able to give me an actual appointment time the next day in the A.M. Efren and Juan were right on time which I really appreciated. The "guys in white" gave me a 4 hour window. More importantly Roy Smith plumbing solved my drain problem within an hour using an industrial size snake. WOW! Feel like I was just ripped off. I needed two new faucets installed on a new vanity top. Nothing to remove or take away. The lady told me three o"clock, but called when I was out to say they would be at my door in five minutes. This was two hours early so I rushed home. They were standing outside. Little did I know I would be billed for what was their wait time when they came early. They also sent two men which was totally unnecessary for the job. I paid with part cash and part credit card. I felt interrogated by the receptionist at the office who was asking me when I received the bill in the mail and whether or not it was mailed to this address. DAH!
