I know the classic "if I could give 0 stars I would" is over used, but it still applies here. Do not rent a car from this business. You are better off walking. Rented a small car for 3 days for a wedding. When I tried to pay in full when making the reservation there was no option to. It was supposed to be $150 but when we got to the pick up, the agent brought out all these hidden charges- no wonder they didn't let me pay upon making the reservation! The agent also told us that our auto coverage plans did not cover rentals and we needed to buy their insurance, even though we both had plans that specifically cover rentals. The agent barely let us get a word in edgewise between telling us about all the additional costs we were inciting. There was a gentleman next to us checking in at the same time that had the same insurance as we did and his agent told him that was fine and he didn't need to purchase insurance from NextCar. We didn't want to press because the agent was busy but it's clear we were overcharged and duped. I did call the following Monday when I saw a strange charge (double the amount of my bill), the manager told me it was a processing mistake. I also took the opportunity to tell her how bad the experience was and she responded by saying "don't complain to me I don't have time" and hung up before refunding the incorrect charge. Apparently our insurance (USAA) is not on their list so it's MANDATORY that we pay for extra insurance. We were told we couldn't decline this Even after the extra $14/hr we AGAIN expressed that the totals did not match up. After listing every fee with the sales associate he said "sometimes the system does calculations wrong" If we had not already paid for a portion of the reservation there's NO WAY I would've gotten a rental from this location. I went for my first ever vacation with my wife in Tampa. Everything went well except for this company that i rented a car from. I was charged same day and had $150 with held as a deposit. Only to wake up this morning i am having an overdraft from my bank because this company charged me again. Meaning i was charged twice and my deposit has not been returned. My flight was delayed and before I got on the flight I called the rental desk directly told them my flight number and that it was delayed but I was still planning to come get the car as soon as I landed in four hours and I had paid for the rental upfront so basically I thought I would be fine but they told me too bad they dont hold any cars for more than an hour after the reservation even if you paid for it AND called about it. I rented through expedia last minute and should've read the reviews before renting. My flight arrived a little early but that didn't help because i waited for the shuttle over one hour. I called their office 3x and no pick up. When we finally arrived to their office it was more waiting because the sales agent was in the bathroom a while. He has the audacity to tell me he has to charge me for a late pickup when it was his shuttles fault which i disputed. I was charged for so many things I'd never been charged at real rentals. I only rented last minute due to a family emergency which was resolved and was able to return the car early but they wouldn't refund ONE day, yes i missed the small print something real companies do allow. This place is an absolute rip off! We reserved online for a pick up at 11:30 we show up and WE had to pay extra because THEY don't have the car available we paid for in advance to reserve. How is this our fault? Her only solution was to pay extra per day or sit there and wait until the small car came in, in a few hours. In my opinion if the car is unavailable it should tell you online not take your money and then tell you all though you reserved for 11:30 you can't have it until around 1. When we tried to cancel guess what they keep all the money you used to reserve all though it was their fault so I was forced to pay for the upgrade. She even admitted to doing that to the customers before us all though they had a reservation they had to pay more for a car they reserved because they did not have it in stock. Very dishonest. We will never book from them again. We were hit with all kinds of hidden fees. They would not accept our European credit card that we had used when making the initial payment. We had to use a debit card, and were charged $40 for using the debit card and because it was a debit card we had to pay a higher fee for the car rental than they had agreed to, and get a smaller car. Even though our travel insurance covered car rental insurance, they would not accept that either. We felt we had no choice -- we could have returned to the airport on the long shuttle ride and tried to book with another company. This would have taken us hours more and certainly be expensive. We were trapped. We had no choice but to be robbed by this horrible company. It took about 2 hours for us to get our car. We paid OVER DOUBLE what we had expected to pay, and got a smaller car. They charged my credit card $836.xx that is $500 they're trying to steal from me. I filed a complaint with local PR consumer affairs to get my money back. This company in Fort Lauderdale does not have a shuttle from the cruise line so it cost us $70 to get there. Then we waited in line for an hour and a half to get the car. Then we waited outside for another half hour for them to get the car. Also I had 2 young kids with. There were only 3 chairs in the place and no bathrooms, just a super long line of people and three workers, only 2 were taking customers. So 2 hours in the sun with two kids waiting for our car we had already booked. Dangerous step coming in to building and the area was in rough shape. We didn't have a copy of our insurance so we were forced to pay more to add two types of insurance. We were also talked into $18 per day for tolls, just in case (or you were fined). Drop off started after we had to be at the airport so we again had to pay for transportation. By then they were the same price as those in the airport. They oddly had multiple addresses listed for return and one took us to a yellow house including the address the lady we called from Next gave us (who didn't speak enflush well). There will be NO NEXT time for us at NEXT car rental (which also has like 7 other names)! read more

This is by far the worst car rental place I've ever been to. I would give it no stars if I could. I have my own car insurance that is over the state's minimum requirements, but NextCar requires you to purchase their insurance at a inflated price if you don't have at least a $300k insurance policy. I called my insurance and they disagreed with NextCars policy. NextCar also didn't mention this requirement anywhere prior to booking the reservation. When I got to the place to start my reservation as I pulled up on their lot in their shuttle from the airport, all the cars on their lot looked run down. Like cars you would find on a janky car lot for bad credit buyers. I didn't even see a SUV like the one I reserved online. Bottom line - don't use this car rental. Two other people walked in after me and encountered the same issue I did. This company is the absolutely the worst rental company i have ever used! I booked to pick the car up at 10:30 my flight didn't arrive until 2:30. I called the main company number 24 hrs before pick to tell them and there wasn't an issue. I received the notice the day of rental to tell the local rental agent in Sanford what time i wound arrive and my flight number. Then I called the local agent to tell them i wouldn't be picking the car until 2:30 not 10:30, I got the most rude woman telling me my reservation wouldn't be honored. He rented me a junk car and away we went. I received the usual return notice to confirm, i called this rental agent his name is Jimmy he told me my options. My flight was to leave at 7:30 and here were my options 1. take the car to the parking area near the airport leave the key in the car and get charged $50 for them to come get it. option 2. bring the cat to the strip mall location and call an uber. oh sure take a chance to get an uber at 5-5:30 in the morning. I call this a scammer car rental. I've rented cars from many places and this one takes the cake as the worst. I came prepared with my declaration page of my insurance only to find out in the tiniest print they only except 5 insurances in the United States regardless of my full coverage for rental cars. We booked our rental car on Priceline with NextCar in Los Angeles. Priceline had a list of expected fees that were anticipated to be added to the rental by NextCar. We received multiple instructions on how to pick up our car. Each were different. We had to ride a shuttle to a parking lot and then catch another shuttle to the rental car office. The office associates were difficult to understand due to thick accents. We had arrived a few hours early and were charged $52 to pick up the car early. The office staff moved the pick up time to earlier on the return date without discussing it with us which lead to extra stress and frustration. When we arrived home we saw charges on our credit card which were difficult to understand and we sought help from customer support. Our questions were not answered. We were left to figure out the receipt on our own. The fees were $50 more than what Priceline has listed for expected fees. WARNING: THIS IS A SCAM. DO NOT RENT A CAR HERE. STAY AWAY FROM THEM. Had a horrible start to our vacation. We went to their Fort Lauderdale location, the staff there were rude, incompetent and scammed us. We had to wait in line for 3 hours just to find out that our fully pre-paid reservation was cancelled as their "system" cancels it after one hour of scheduled pick-up time. We were there 30 minutes before pick-up time and yet it cancelled. At that point, if there is no car available they will simply say it's cancelled. There were 3-4 families who had left in front of us cursing at them as there were no 7 seaters available. Since we booked a sedan, we got one. However, they have these elaborate insurance requirements which is utterly foolish and not clear without which you have to put down a security deposit which they don't mention when you book. I haven't seen such requirements for any other car rental company I used. Anyway, after checking my insurance the person said my insurance was good and I had to put a security deposit of 450$ as opposed to the 2500$ that everyone else were being asked to put. However, after verbally telling me the amount, he made me sign on the electronic pad. After having a really late lunch due to their delay and driving for a bit, when I looked at the agreement, they had taken away 2500$ as security deposit although he said my insurance was "meeting the requirements". Some people left cursing at them, I was feeling sorry for them as they were simply "doing their job" but seeing how they scammed us and few other families (whom we checked with during drop-off) feel like they deserve it. My brother rented another sedan which was at least 10 years old and smelling bad. He was asked to buy additional insurance if he did not want to put 2500$ deposit. Let me tell you ... I looked them up online and seen that they had the lowest rates in Fort Lauderdale. I decided to book with them, since it was a short trip for my husband and I. Anyways ... when we landed. We followed directions to take the shuttle to the rental facility and wait at stop 7. We waited for quite awhile. The security asked us who are we waiting for ... I said NextCar. He said "who the hell is that??" Anyways, while we were waiting ... my husband and I were calling them. They finally answered. Of course ... they don't speak English! So the guy tells us "the driver waiting for you at Southwest" ... and we said "but your direction said to wait at stop 7." He said "no no, your driver waiting for you. You need to cross and go to southwest." Security said ... "no!! No that's very dangerous. You have to go downstairs, and come up that way." Anyways, long story short. Dude was never there. He pulls up 10 minutes later in a car that was sooooo shaky. Then he told me "wait. I wait for more people." I asked where are you going to fit them?? It wasn't like he had a whole bus. He picked us up in a Versa. So he knew I was annoyed. We finally left. I asked where is this rental office? He said "at the airport." Didn't help. We finally get to the rental agency. He was trying to click a button to open the trunk, and had a really hard time. I offered him some help. He told me to hold his WATER BOTTLE. Okay!! Like legit shoved it in my hands. I told him why didn't he just push the button in the remote .. he finally did. Once inside, they gave me a hard time about my personal car insurance. When I called to ask questions prior to booking, they told me it was fine and I can use it. And they LEGIT handed me the keys to THAT CAR!! I said hell no!!! That car is shaking like it has a fever! We did add on an extra driver and the unlimited tolls which were to only be about $180-$200 more added to our final bill. Needless to When we returned the car our bill was somehow $704.02! Please read this to be spared disappointment and wasted time dealing with inept employees and unavailable cars. I booked a car via Expedia a week prior to my arrival. I confirmed twice on the phone and everything was all set. Upon arrival to MCO airport, they informed they did not have the car I reserved and confirmed (a compact car). In fact, they only had one mini-van available, which I did not reserve and did not want to drive as I have never driven a large car and do not feel comfortable doing such on high ways, etc. When I said this to the employee, Joe, he did not give me any apology or resolution he just said welp that is what we have. I said okay I would like to cancel then and he said okay and hung up..... Obviously, I called back even more infuriated because what customer service rep hangs up on a customer? I told him such and he said okay, I will cancel with no charge. I said obviously you didn't have the car I reserved and confirmed twice ready and offered no help or resolution. Then he hung up AGAIN. So now I have to call back a THIRD TIME and I'm offended at this point. Your company made a mistake and I am the burden for calling to try to fix it? I understand it was 6AM and Joe obviously did not want to be there..but I didn't want to be stuck at the airport either. I asked him to email me a copy of the cancellation receipt as I had an rental insurance charge on my card and wanted to make sure they would give me a refund (which I am still refuting five days later). He said he doesn't have my email on file. This was not true, as I had three confirmation emails from Nextcar and am still receiving their email promos. I have rented from NextCar BWI almost every month for the last year. Before renting, I looked at the negative reviews because that's what we do as human beings. We try to find the worse so we can justify when something goes wrong. The majority of these reviews seem to be people who are unhappy with the rental process. But that's because you rented from a third party. It's the same if you rented a hotel room from Priceline or Expedia and got there and they gave you a one bed when you asked for two. When you rent from third parties, they don't tell you that there's extra fees or you might not get the room or car you wanted. That's not the company's fault. So your reviews should be with third parties. There's a couple negative reviews on here that rentals were not even booked at the BWI location. So why is it on here? Anyway, my first encounter a year ago was with the manager. He was very nice, explained everything to me and it was a good experience. My second time, I was flying in with three tired kids and just needed to get my car, and Pam one of the managers there was so understanding. She made the process easy, quick and even offered my kids chocolates. Pam is really an amazing person. I work in the aviation industry and I've told everyone about the service at NextCar BWI. It's simple : you're out of state they hold $150 In state it's $350 I believe. Debit cards they have a different process. They don't accept cash or prepaid cards. These are things you won't find out form third parties. Tip : call them directly or book through their online website. Trying to save a few dollars on Priceline or Expedia is not worth it. There will always be additional fees. The reason you don't get back all of your security could be many reasons. You didn't fill the tank up. You went through tolls. You were smoking in your car and tried to use the cheap spray to get rid of the smoke. You tried to get the easy way out and thought that if the gas gauge was on the full line that they would think you filled it up when you really didn't. Many reasons. But I have always gotten my security deposit back. I ended up being charged for a tire and a rim for a car with NO DAMAGE!!!! $300 for a Kia Rio? The original statement originally said $300 for a tire (I had to call corporate 2 weeks later to get after filing a dispute with carrentals.com and them refusing to work with them). The only reason they knew about the tire being low was because I called the manager prior to returning. He obviously notated my account. He probably seen this review. He should be fired. I was given a car with damages to the passenger side, when ask for another car, no cars when available. the counter agent at BWI airport Next Car Rental was horrible, did not document the damages, and have me go back and fort to wait 2 1/2 hours for the lot attendant to inspect the car. Then weeks later I got charged for the time in my bill. Even worst is the customer service, I kept photos of the counter agent and parking lot agent with the damage car. My original rental was $62 plus a car seat $10. Next Car Rental did not accept my prepaid insura ce and I had to paid $39 at the counter. Then weeks late I got an additional charge of $325. Note this for a rental for only 1 day. Trying to resolve this was like talking to "ROCKS" that's the type of customer service Next Car Rental has. I used Orbitz to rent a car in Tampa. I just needed four wheels and a seat. so, price was everything. I get a message from NEXTCAR about 5 minutes before my plane lands that I will need a copy of my regular car insurance. Needless to say, that is at home in the glovebox where most people keep it. I did use AMEX to rent and that would cover any auto insurance anyway, but the agent declines. They then want to sell you their private insurance. A 35 minute attempt to call my insurance company and finally get a copy emailed to their agent worked. Then my 6 day stay was extended. They wanted to charge nearly double for extended days. Most other companies switch you to a weekly rate (cheaper). So, I specifically took the car back to Tampa and traded to a NATIONAL rental and was nearly half the price. Nextcar's tack on fees were over 2x the fees tacked on by NATIONAL also. So, BEWARE, BEWARE, BEWARE. They will never see another cent from me. Been trying to be at them to refund me multiple times even after they acknowledge they messed up but I am always told they need manager approval and that the manager is not present and will give me a call the following day. NextCar Ft Lauderdale (FLL) didn't accept our VISA credit card rental insurance which every other rental company we've used have done. And our car insurance company (American National / ANPAC) was not on the list of accepted companies so we had to pay $12/day in "admin" fee. I'm sure they've covered themselves in the fine print, but these days when credit card rental insurance is universally accepted, having separate rules comes across as a scam to hook customers with low rates and then upcharge at the counter when people have no other choice. We luckily had access to our car insurance policy on the phone, but other customers who were there at the same time did not and consequently were stuck or had to pay exorbitant insurance ($60/day). Crooked! That's all I can say. I booked a one-week rental thru NextCar (aka OneSwitch) at the Miami Airport thru Priceline.com. Priceline reported NextCar as being onsite at the airport. Not true! though they were perhaps a 5-10 shuttle ride from the airport. When we expressed our displeasure at that misinformation and that we were concerned about getting to our flight timely upon our return, we were told that we would be driven in our rental car to the airline departure terminal. Not true! We had to wait for their shuttle, which dropped us off at the onsite rental car return, from which we had to make the long walk to the departures area. Next, we were offered a transponder with which to navigate toll roads at a rate of $17.99 a day. We declined and opted to avoid toll roads instead. Later we found that most rental car agencies charge $4-5 a day for such a transponder. Last but not least, we declined NextCar's daily insurance, as we are well covered. (NextCar even required that we provide proof of insurance, which we did.) What we missed though -- I guess -- is that NextCar's contract has a clause that says that in lieu of the daily insurance rate, we would be charged $5.99 for a "Claim Management Insurance Fee". I paid for my Florida vacation rental 6 months in advance on my credit card. Once I arrived, I was asked again for my card so that they could charge the security deposit. NextCar (or OnTracRentaCar as they appear on my credit card charges) had double charged me the second time -- I paid the full amount (again) and the security deposit. I attempted to work with the vendor multiple times, granting multiple chances for them to return the money. In the end, they only returned the security deposit, kept the double charge (which was more than the security deposit), and even had the gall to charge me an extra 20 for tollway fees. I have since opened a dispute case with my credit card company to force these frauds to return what they should never have stolen. read more
