This was my first time at this venue, the next-door. I am told that they have a variety of different events and music. This event I believe was private. It was EMO music I guess. With entertainers. It wasn't my vibe so I didn't stay too long. But we did buy a drink and bought something from one of the vendors selling stuff. The venue is large. It look like it had two levels. A large stage at the beginning of the entrance. The people that were working, the event were super friendly. The lines moves quickly. The bar is large and the bartender was friendly.

Here it's 830, and they just started letting people in. Half an hour late, but no courtesy telling anyone.

I want a refund for my 2 tickets for tonight's "event." We were told doors at 8pm but they didn't open till 830. In addition, when we did get in, after waiting in line for almost an hour without ANY word from anyone about the hold up, it was immediately apparent that what was advertised is NOT what was happening. There were supposed to be vendors. One person selling pottery is not what was advertised. One person braiding hair is not what was advertised. Theme night at a bar is NOT what I bought tickets for. I feel duped. Whomever put this event clearly has no Idea about how to put on a professionally organized event. Total SHAM! Total false advertising. This was supposed to be a special night for my husband's birthday and it was ruined by this really poorly crafted "event". I'm incredibly angry and my husband and I will be blasting this on social media and Yelp. What a total let down. Just a bar with a theme. What a joke. Just stick with your bar theme nights, but don't con people into buying tickets to something they think they are going to get. Shame on you. It's 830, and they just started letting people in. Half an hour late, but no courtesy to telling anyone in line that they were having "technical difficulties" Clearly, no one here has a clue about customer service. They do know how to con you into buying a ticket to their non-events, though. Don't do it. You'll be disappointed and angry.

Hawaii bands rejoice, there's still a mid-sized venue to host an awesome show! Proper stage, coupled with an ideal floor plan and mix of dance floor space, high tops, and relaxed seating areas at the back. By far the best size and layout on Oahu for putting on an event for a hundred or so folks. As for the sound system, they boast a killer drum and bass backline, along with a rock solid PA system. And best of all, a professional dedicated sound man (Tommy) will coolly have you sounding your best during sound check, and be there to tweak levels via his iPad on the fly. If you're looking to rock out on a proper stage and pro sound, contact Dan today and line up your next gig.

So tonight is Mike Izons PURPLE HAZE concert for ALS Fundraiser. We made purchases of 7 tickets total for the WHOLE FAMILY & found out that this was a 21 & over place LAST MINUTE. Luckily I had responded to a reminder email from Jenn who is the ALS coordinator saying we were gonna be there with the kids. Because SHORTLY AFTERWARD they emailed us with an updated reminder stating that it's a 21 & Over venue. Thy FORGOT TO INCLUDE THAT IN ALL OF THEIR ADVERTISEMENTS. ‍‍ IKR! So... instead of waisting ALL the tickets we decided to go and get a refund for the OTHER 5 tickets we purchased online. Hoping to speak with the right person. ITS IN THE MIDDLE OF CHINATOWN down the road from SIN & across the street of DOWNBEAT LOUNGE. It was pretty good considering we came an hour before it was done. Lol!! Other than that... I'm sure there were a lot of fun prior to our arrival. Oh there was this one girl who was drunk OFF HER ASS!!! I mean totally wasted!!! Lol I felt bad for her but that happened within 10 minutes of our arrival. Made our night a bit exciting. Anywho... a good place to chill with friends and maybe hold a 21 & over fundraiser.

I have been coming to NextDoor for over a year and a half now. They are actively supporting local musicians and many of the bands I follow have played there. You will always be able to find great live music here! It is quickly becoming THE place for amazing shows! All of the bartenders are super friendly and offer great service! It has the right balance of cool and hospitality... make Next Door Bar your favorite stop for First Friday and First Saturday shows!!! If you're hungry then you can head to The Other Side for some awesome chicken wings and you're welcome to bring the food over to Next Door to eat and listen to your favorite jams!

Very casual!

Does this bar play hip hop?

Yes, live

Is there parking nearby? Not familiar with the downtown area.

There is metered street parking (free at night, after 6 or 7pm), dirt cheap municipal lots (which you must exit by midnight), and some other paid $$$ parking lots.

The atmosphere is cozy, warm, and inviting -- I felt like I was relaxing in someone's living room at home. The service was fast, and all of the waiters were very friendly and attentive. She made reservations for us, which is recommended. You check in on the first floor and are then escorted into the speakeasy. I won't share much more, as one should experience it themselves. But the ambiance is dim, semi-private, on-theme, and cozy yet lively. There's a bar area as well as the dining area where we sat. Service was fine. We were checked on periodically, but the food did take quite some time to come out. We shared some pupus, off their happy hour menu. We got the Smashed Cucumbers, House Karaage, and Sinigang Fries. The cucumbers weren't spicy, even though they were listed as spicy. It was more oily, but still crisp and refreshing. The fries were perfect for snacking on, with a nice sour-savory flavor from the sinigang. The karaage was extremely big! Not too crispy like usual, but still meaty. We also asked for six, but only received five pieces. My friend got the Lamb Ribs as well, which fell off the bone, and she seemed to enjoy them. My other friend and I shared the Ulu Taco Flight. We chose Suadero, Pork Belly, and Seafood as our protein. I enjoyed the seafood; it was lobster. It was sweet and mild but nicely cooked. The aioli was a nice addition. The pork belly was fine; it was quite spicy, which was a bit overpowering. My friend who had the beef taco said the wagyu was great but also quite spicy. The tacos themselves were quite small for the price. Overall, if you're into speakeasies or curious, Vintage Books is worth a visit at least once. The food is creative, and the drinks are good. Glad I could come and hang out with my friends. Find them on the ground floor. Parking is validated in the building; give your ticket to the host.

When you come through the beach, you have the option of dining at the bar, which seems to be a totally different experience. The bar serves burgers and other bar foods, and we wanted something a little less casual. After entering through the bar, we ended up having to go to the desk inside. They added my name and took down my phone number to text when the table is ready. This place is huge. There is indoor seating with lots of grass "skirt" trim around some of the ceiling and bars, and the upholstery of the dining chairs are different colorful aloha prints. On the deck there are think torches and umbrellas and string lights. On the level just a few steps down are more umbrella tables and some musicians playing Hawaiian music. All around are photos of the famous Olympic champion, surgery, and actor Duke Kahanamoku. Much to my surprise, as I was looking around while waiting for a table, a girl asked if I was Denise. They didn't text me; rather, they jot down a brief description so they can just look around and find you. She sat us on the beach deck. Our server was fantastic, so friendly with lots of explanations and recommendations. They use an ordering system and it's fun like a week liked machine. Hubby's beer was delivered to our table before our server even walked away! We both ordered the teriyaki sirloin steak with mashed potatoes. It. Was. Freaking. Delicious. I was full, but couldn't stop eating because it was so good. Dukes is really a place where you know you are in Hawaii--the decor, the food, the music, the friendly service. If you come to Honolulu and don't come to Duke's, you'll be missing out.

So, Duke's is now located right on the beach inside the Outrigger Hotel. How many of these darn Outrigger's are there in Waikiki? These guys got it down pat. No shoes, no shirt, no worries. At the bar, the service is excellent. Even when they are slammed, you can have a conversation with the barkeeps. Their craft cocktails are on point. A must order is the Duke's Mai Tai, their signature cocktail made with fresh Hawaiian juices & two types of rum. Surprisingly, they offer a breakfast, lunch, and dinner prime rib buffet. We just ordered off the menu. Surprise number two, the food is excellent. We ordered the Duke's Nachos with kalua pork. Our nachos arrived piled high with black beans, jalapeños, pico de gallo, guacamole, sour cream, and Colby-Jack cheese, and of course, shredded pork. A local ice-cold draft beer was a perfect accompaniment. They did have live music one early evening, and the place was rockin' You can make a reservation online, and if you want a sit-down experience, make a reservation. Sadly I hoped I could give it a better review but since moving from the downtown venue to Waikiki I…read morejust couldn't. Located in a hotel called The Romer on Nāhua Street in Waikiki off of Kuhio (closer to Ala Wai Canal) it is a smallish unpretentious looking building on Diamond Head side of Nahua. They have valet stand in front and validate parking for up to 3 hours. The valet wasn't very friendly when we walked towards him and usually they hold the door open but this one did not. We realize he's probably not part of Lei Stand staff but it doesn't make a good first impression. Walk into the lobby and directly to your left is the Lei Stand. It is brightly neon but dark if that makes sense, and very small. If you're a fan of when it used to be on Bethel St downtown then you'll be disappointed with this venue. No view to be had, dark drapes cover the windows (we were there at 6:00 pm) and no cute little lanai or garden. Tiny tables either high tops or rounds - maybe 10 total and a small bar. There was one tiny corner booth. The lost star was for this set up but also another lost star for NO MUSIC. Music is such an important part of a place especially a bar so we were disappointed and appalled there was only silence. Bartender said the music was "broken" so we turned on our phones to get something on our table. Then two girls brought in something to light the place up with some tunes so that helped. The final lost star was it is called The Lei Stand yet there wasn't a lei stand inside the place. When we asked the bartender where it was he didn't even know what a lei was. Then we explained to him and he said it is in the hotel lobby but you have to go to front desk to let them know you wish to purchase one. Another disappointment. Thank goodness I bought her a lei from downtown in case they didn't have any. The good stars ... Star 1 goes to the drink menu and how delicious they tasted. "Rub up on my belly" was beautifully prepared and so delicious I had to have another one lol I mean how could I refuse a second guava jam infused Tito's vodka??? Bartender prepared with cute little garnish and an ice stick to keep it cold! He was very nice and took good care of us. My friend opted for the "Clifton's Curse" - yes there's a back story to this drink- and enjoyed the cognac, absinthe, bitters and sherry concoction! Ono! Star 2 goes to the food or "nibbles" as they call it. Taro chips and crack dip were yum and a nice handful of chips not too much and not too little. Hurricane fries - to die for! Plenty of furikake, parmigiano reggiano and spicy aioli. The girls who brought our food were very nice and made sure we had what we needed to enjoy, bringing us waters too. They also had a smash burger for $25 but we had dinner rez later so didn't want to indulge but it looked good. It might be cute if you wanted to do a private party here and I noticed a room across with a beautiful large table set up for a private dinner - not sure if part of hotel or bar.
