I called in maybe an hour beforehand to see if they could see me for a gel-X soak off and a gel manicure and was super lucky they had time. I went to the awful nail salon across town (see other review) for a removal previously and they ruined the integrity of my nails. Ree took her time to actually soak my fake nails off and when that was all gone, she took care of my real nails and cuticles. I only get manicures before special occasions but they'll all be with Ree from this point on. This is a family run business. Ree shared they've been there for 30+ years. I believe Anna is her mom? Anna was there too. All the other clients there were regulars. I can see why! Only small downside is they don't have a parking lot and Castro Valley Blvd can be busy but not impossible to find a spot close by. They accept cards with a 2% service charge but do have Zelle to avoid fees or good ol cash.

My sister explained what she wanted but she kept suggesting something different. Even after my sister said no she continued pushing her suggestion instead of respecting what my sister wanted. She started doing my manicure first because she said she was the only one who could do hard gel. While doing my nails she was handling my hands and nails very aggressively to the point where I was worried she was going to cut my skin. I also noticed that some of my nails looked uneven and off center so I politely pointed it out to her. Instead of listening to my concern she became defensive and sounded angry. She told me she was trying her best but could not fix it because the problem was my natural nails. She also told me that she had been doing nails for 35 years. At that point I became too uncomfortable to continue and asked her to stop. The photos I posted are how my nails looked when I decided to stop the service. They are not photos of a completed manicure. I did not want her to finish because of how aggressively she was doing my nails and how rude and defensive she became when I expressed my concerns. After I asked her to stop she told me that I still had to pay her because I had wasted her time. I understand that someones time and work are valuable but as a customer I should also be able to speak up when I am uncomfortable with a service without being treated rudely. I did not stop the appointment for no reason. I stopped because I no longer felt comfortable allowing her to continue working on my nails. After leaving I went to Golden Nails and the difference in how I was treated was amazing. They were very welcoming nice and understanding about what happened. They were able to fix the problems with my nails and they did not even charge me for fixing them. I am extremely thankful for their kindness and for making me feel comfortable after such an unpleasant experience. I am sharing my experience because customers should feel comfortable communicating with their nail technician especially when something does not look right or they are experiencing discomfort. Unfortunately I did not feel listened to or respected at Mimi Nails and I chose to leave rather than continue a service that made me uncomfortable.

First, I was shocked that a basic kids' pedicure for my 8-year-old son cost $27. All they did was trim and clean his nails, followed by a short leg massage. That price seems extremely high for such a simple service, and there was never any discussion of pricing beforehand. The biggest issue, though, was my own nails. I paid about $55 for my gel manicure--$35 for gel polish, plus an additional $20 for a French tip and a small Mickey design. When I woke up the very next morning, less than 24 hours later, the entire gel polish had already peeled completely off one of my thumbnails. The French tip and Mickey design on other nails were also already lifting and peeling. I've never had a gel manicure fail this quickly. If I lived closer and didn't have to drive across the bridge, I would absolutely return to request a full refund because this level of quality is unacceptable. Between my dad, my two kids, and me, we spent close to $500, so we expected much better workmanship. My daughter's nails actually turned out great, so this review is strictly about the quality of my nails. One other thing that bothered me was my dad's pedicure. The staff kept offering him additional services during the appointment, and he kept saying yes without realizing each one came with an extra charge. By the end, his pedicure totaled over $100 plus tip. I really think pricing for add-on services should be clearly explained before they're performed so customers can make informed decisions. I've attached photos showing my thumbnail the morning after my appointment, along with photos I took the night before. It's incredibly disappointing to spend this much money and have a gel manicure start peeling in less than 24 hours.
