I don't know what is better, the people who work at satisfying your culinary needs or the food itself. Vinny is an excellent example of what a General Manager should be. Chris was the Chef for this evening and surprised us with an awesome "extra" appetizer and dessert! Our server, Steve was fantastic and very professional, he had great recommendations and showed us the utmost attention at the perfect times. My beautiful wife had the 1/2 Amish Chicken and I have the venison for our mains. Both entrees are out of this world and were the perfect choices after the black bean hummus, broccoli and arancini appetizers. The dessert menu was full of great choices but we learned of an off menu dessert, Beignets, and they were amazing! Bring back the pork belly fried rice! That was my all time favorite item on the menu that they no longer offer. I got my hopes up for a minute when I saw that the Pan Roasted Fjord Trout comes with pork belly fried rice AND that they were willing to do it as a side. However, it was nothing close to the original fried rice they used to offer as a side. Boo hoo... There are other great items on the menu, like the brussels sprouts, Szechuan beef and pork belly steam buns. The crispy fingerling potatoes were ok, nothing special. Date nights are always a win when we go to Niche! The best hamburger I have ever rated is their Niche burger on the small plates menu! I like my burgers pretty well done, so please be sure to let them know if you'd like it done a bit more, otherwise it does come out with pink in the middle, and a good amount. Don't be fooled by the "small plate" portion either. It is perfect. The drinks here are unmatched when it comes to selection and bartender skill, and are always almost too pretty to drink! We usually get one of the same female servers, and although I cannot remember her name off of the top of my head, she's one of my favorite servers in Geneva. :) read more

We recently moved to Geneva and wanted to pick a local spot to celebrate for our 1 year wedding anniversary. This place was the perfect spot! It was romantic & nice without being over the top. We will be back here for sure! Food 4/5 - We ordered the Tender Broccoli Florets as a starter. We joked that we never knew broccoli could be so delicious! Topped with crispy bacon, fried shallots, and a sriracha aioli this was delicious! Entree's - my husband ordered the 1/2 Amish Chicken and I ordered the Serrano Wrapped Monkfish. The food was beautifully plated! Only slight critiques - my husband noticed an excess of sesame oil flavor in his chicken (I love to cook and a little goes a long way!). My fish was well-cooked but would have preferred a "light/fresh" component to the dish, tasted much more like a meal I would eat in the winter. Drink 4/5 - I ordered the Sauvignon Blanc which was delicious! My husband ordered the Mr. Brownstown cocktail which was unique - it had a cold brew ice cube and a vanilla syrup - he said it was kind of sweet though and that you couldn't taste the bourbon that much. We will be back though to try their other cocktails! Atmosphere 5/5 - The inside of the restaurant looked beautiful. Romantic & dim, the tables were spaced apart for COVID. We chose to eat at the patio, which appeared to be created to accommodate COVID restrictions. The chairs on the patio were plastic, but I admired that the restaurant was adjusting to the needs of our time! We are looking forward to being back to eat inside! Service 5/5 - Our waiter was very sweet & attentive. We were surprised by a champagne toast for our anniversary! Allergen-Friendly 5/5 - The menu was marked (GF) throughout. We went to celebrate my wife's birthday and had a great experience. All three of us had delicious meals and the server was wonderful. The restaurant was full but we noticed it was not noisy, which was nice for a place that was packed. For myself, I am vegan and with no entree on the menu, I was appreciative that the server asked what I liked or disliked and came back with a custom idea from the chef. I said I was wide open to anything vegan and liked spicier foods and they whipped up a delicious plate with bean panache, sweet potatoes, assorted vegetables and a sauce with just the right amount of kick. Truly delicious and very appealing. For desert, they even made a vegan pastry that was really good as well. Steak and fries (I subbed the fries for marbled potatoes) - Steak melts in your mouth like butter, so much flavor and very tender, medium rare was perfection and I plan on coming back to order this dish again, maybe tomorrow! Paired perfectly with Côtes du Rhône Octopus appetizer - so much flavor it was served with a pimento tomato sauce and olives with fried manchego cheese croquettes, highly recommend! Pork shank - another amazing dish so much flavor beautifully crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Couldn't have been happier with this amazing buzzing Parisian vibe resturant. For dessert they offer $5 all you can eat cotton candy so much fun! I saw so many tables enjoying this childhood pleasure after a decadent meal. Recommend for a fun date night where you don't want to be met with a sterile quite environment but rather a buzzing loud energetic vibe where our surrounding tables were excited to recommend their dishes. I cannot wait to come back. Everything was amazing. Sat at the bar for drinks before sitting down for dinner. My date loved his martini, I loved the Bordeaux. We had the bao buns for an appetizer and they were so good...seriously so good. I was so happy he split the last one to share with me. He had the steak special and he loved it. Wow, what a great place!! Being from Kentucky, I wasn't looking for a bourbon bar, but this ended up being the place!!! First, Anna was excellent as our server. Questions, no problem, she's right there. Pleasant, helpful, and attentive which is rare right now. But, service could not have been better. Next, the seared yellowfin tuna was some of the best I've ever had, and my wife's steak frites was so tender she didn't even need the knife. We shared the Lolla Rossa salad, and Anna brought it already separated for the two of us. Excellent!! Light vinaigrette, ricotta, nuts and fruit combined to a great flavorful mix. Close the dinner off with Niche coffee which was as good to drink as it was to watch the bartender as she lit the liquor on fire to caramelize the cinnamon and sugar in the rim. I went to Niche for my birthday. It has been on my to try list on Yelp for awhile. I thought it held up pretty nicely. I love the ambiance. The bar has nice backlighting that isn't too sharp creating a warm, homey feel. I also like the set up of the tables. I have a broken foot and needed to come in on crutches. Even though the tables were next to each other, there was enough space to accommodate my crutches without getting in the way which I really appreciate. Our waiter was very nice! He was knowledgeable about their food selection and made helpful suggestions. Personally, I didn't try their cocktails, but my fiancé tried some of their beer selection. They had a good selection of seasonal beers as well as common ones. For an appetizer we got the steamed buns which were delicious! I love this dish at most places and thought they did a really good job balancing the bun to meat ratio. For my entree I got the salmon which had pork dumplings in it. The salmon was cooked perfectly, but a little plain. The pork dumplings, though, were delectable. Definitely one of the top ones I've tried. My fiancé got the corn chowder along with his entree. It was a special they were having and it was oh so good. Just a pinch of heat you feel in the back of your throat. Finally, for desert we got the banana upside down cake with lemon curd. I would never have thought to combine those flavors but it worked! Very tasty! They have a rotating menu so I'm not sure what they will have next, but I definitely don't mind checking it out! read more

I ate at Niche for the first time tonight and it was incredible! I don't eat meat or dairy, and since I didn't see many options for me on the menu, I asked if there were any vegan options that weren't on the menu. She said "Yes, let me ask the chef what can be put together." Well, my meal was absolutely amazing!! I sooo appreciate a chef who will create a beautiful and tasty dish for those of us who don't eat meat or dairy; it's actually a rare thing in my experience. The rest of my family (omnivores) also loved their meals! The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming and although the restaurant was packed it wasn't noisy at all! Decided to head to Geneva to try a new spot and glad we stumbled upon Niche. While a bit more expensive than we'd typically spend on a meal, I had one of the best dishes I've ever eaten, so I'm not complaining! I started with the Queen of the Rodeo and my husband had the old fashioned. Neither of us were very impressed with the drinks - honestly mine just tasted like a $9 LaCroix. But the food! We shared the baby kale salad to start (nothing special here), and then I had the Seared Yellowfin Tuna and my husband had the single serving of the Bone Marrow Fried Rice. I can't even explain how amazing the tuna was. I'm usually all for sharing meals with my husband, but this was hard to share - I wanted it all to myself! The crispy rice, avocado cream and tuna combo was all incredible, bursting with flavor. And my favorite part - it was all gluten free! My husband said the fried rice was so rich and flavorful, and the single portion could have easily been shared - it was a good portion size. Overall, we were super impressed. This place was so fun! I was just visiting clients in Geneva and they made a reservation here.. I wasn't sure what to expect, but I loved it! The server was a little busy so it took a few minutes to get my drink order but I was so so so happy they had a N/A beer and mocktail options! Any restaurant that supports a sober night gets an A+ in my book. The appetizers were pretty good, the bread and butter was amazing and good French fries. I have a dairy allergy so I couldn't taste everything. I ordered the hamburger and it was pretty dry without the sauce and a little cold. The date cake was delicious and the cotton candy was super fun. I felt like a kid. The vibe was really nice, not too loud and the lighting was perfect. The pickles add acidity n the red onion marmalade adds sweetness just put more. The bacon adds saltiness. My only complaint is that it needs a sauce. Would have love if it came with a really decadent aioli instead of ketchup. And the fries are really good just put seasoning on them. Love pineapple for sweatnes, and the pickled onions for acidity. My only issue the pork was cold. Cheeseplate: this is an amazing cheese plate but little things can be done to tweak it. Like the crackers there really hard wish it was really good bread instead. Wish they were more soft cheeses, soft cheeses work better with jams then hard cheeses. The jam was delish just put more. I like the fruit but wish it was a jam instead so its easier to eat. Loved the addition of the pistachios. Short rib: i didnt really like this. The dish was really salty. The shortrib was luke warm. The potatoes werent crispy or flavorful. Walleye: this was amazing. The walleye was cooked perfectly. The sauce was so flavorful. the lobster pasta was amazing but a lil to hard. We have visited Niche few times. This time was the worse. The waiter Steve, very rough, and without the appropriate manners and etiquette for a place such as this. He did not remember what we ordered, and quickly came back to ask us and reconfirm. No bread to welcome us, as we were told that the owners have gluten free bread on the menu" so they will charge you"(how inappropriate to make such a comment) My mussels were not as expected, in fact terrible and we could not wait to leave the premises. Went for the Napa Valley Wine dinner on Oct. 29, 2022. Was really looking forward to this as these private events that Niche puts on have never disappointed, until now. The wines served were Heitz, Burgess and Brendel, great wineries so figured they'd be delicious. The evening started off with a woman (believe from Demeine Estates) giving quite the speech about the wines, history of the wineries and the like....she really rambled on. Really pushing us to purchase bottles of these wines. No wonder as they all failed terribly except for the Heitz Chardonnay. She then spoke again about half way through this dinner, again pushing these wines. Our guess, as others felt sitting around us is that these wines didn't sell well in the retail market so they were being pushed at dinners/events. The first 2 courses were good, but both the duck and steak were tough and very, very rare, not much flavor at all. The dessert was tasty but the Brendel rose tasted like carbonated water. Most of the courses had too much (flavor-wise) going on, took away from what could have been a very good dinner. The cooks and staff I'm sure were overwhelmed, trying to feed and serve so many people at one time but the servers did do a great job trying. Arrived at 5:30, left at 9:30. It could have been much shorter if this woman hadn't spoke for so long. And Vince, you've packed so many tables in Niche, it's difficult to get to the washrooms! I've been to Niche several times since my first review - and this place is fabulous. Fresh ingredients, delicious drinks, creative menu that is frequently changing, and excellent service. I believe it is the best restaurant in the tri - city area, and the closest thing you will experience to Chicago dining in the suburbs. We recently went to Niche for their New Year's Eve dinner. It was a 5 course delight, from the lobster roll to the coffee creme brule. I enjoyed two margaritas with dinner - orange and pear flavored and they were wonderful. My husband absolutely loves their old fashioned with the special cherries, and our friends also enjoyed the Niche version of the Irish coffee. The menu was delicious, the service excellent, and the evening memorable, as it should be. I will continue to come to Niche for special occasions in the future. read more

Venison, venison, venison! Did I say that I love venison and Niche not only has a kick-ass venison app but their venison tenderloin was delicious. I'll break it down. The app was the meatballs and it came in a little skillet with a puree that was delicious but with this pomegranate syrup that didn't seem like it was glorified POM juice and the little pomegranate seeds helped round out the flavor. Steam buns. STEAM BUNS?! Yeah, and honestly? They were great. I'm a little wary of fusion type buns-some of them are just super overloaded but this one was stuffed just right with steak and veggies. For dinner I of course, got the venison-if you hadn't picked up on that already. Cut to the perfect thickness, with the kale, onion and the jus. The naturally lean venison was balanced by the buttered kale and the rich jus. On top of that, their beer selection is top notch. Our group of four went through 3 or 4 different beers all hand picked and it seems like they consciously matched their beers to the food. I couldn't have had a better meal there. read more

Yikes! What happened to you, Niche? We knew something had changed when we saw all your staff wearing jeans and gym shoes! When you first opened, you were swanky. The limited menu was so, so. We were served the saddest looking cheese platter for our appetizer, and my coffee-rubbed lamb was so overly coated in coffee grounds, I had to scrape them off, having learned the hard way that if I didn't, I would have a mouthful of grounds. The music was horrible - from a psychedelic Beatles tune to "Superfly." What? Everyone was friendly, but certainly not the Niche we remember, and not worth lingering around for dessert. This place is one of the best places I have been to in some time. Our experience was perfect. I met a colleague for dinner on a Thursday night. One of the highlights of the night was service. It was simply perfect. Our waiter cared, was observant without overwhelming us and really made our experience perfect. I started the night with one of their "unbelievable selections" of bourbon. I had a "tasting pour" of the Jefferson 21 year old. It was wonderful. A tasting-pour is 1 ¼ ounces, while a full pour is 2 ounces. It was really good. My colleague had a glass of Cabernet. It tasted a bit off, almost jammy and we almost thought that was the way it should taste. The waiter noticed that I also tasted it and came over to ask about it. He insisted that he take it back, they opened a fresh bottle and it was a really good cab. I ended up having one with my dinner. For appetizers, we split the Scallops and the Seared Scallops with buffalo fried oysters, and the Steamed Buns with sweet and sticky flank steak. They were both fantastic. The buns were really fantastic, great texture, soft and just the right chew, while the stuffing was really GREAT flavor, just enough kick. They were served in a taco shape (check the photos) and were great. The Scallops were really good as well. They were served with some crispy rice which was an interesting texture. Really enjoyed that dish. For dinner with actually split the Cornish Hen Roulade. We wanted to stay with a small-plate theme so we could try different dishes. They actually brought us 2 plates, each with our portion beautifully arranged. You wouldn't have known we were splitting a dish. How awesome was that. And it was fantastic. The flavor in every part of that dish was really great. For dessert we tried the BlueBerry Fritters and the Pineapple Crisp. They were also a hit. While the server was pleasant, courteous and professional, the rest of our experience was average- which was disappointing because of all of the hype given out regarding this restaurant. We made reservations thru the Resy app and arrived at Niche 5 minutes early. The place was packed and very noisy . We were given what looked like the only open table for two - immediately adjacent to the service station at the bar. The constant movement and ever-present backsides of the servers made our experience even less pleasant. The food was ok - the best item was the corn bisque with a tiny flavored popcorn topping. The bisque had a nice texture a pleasant with all ingredients in the proper proportion. The choice of entrees was beyond comprehension. For beef there were two choices - a 14 ounce $68 ribeye (who can eat that amount of meat let alone pay that charge for a single meal?) or a brioche burger with fries. After reviewing the hype about the restaurant, we never imagined ordering a burger! The pork belly steam buns were tasty and the cheese, fruit and nut place was acceptable. The red wine selection was sparse and expensive. If you drink whiskey you will enjoy this place - but if a gin drinker forget it. Niche appears to be little more than a neighborhood bar where people will stand 2-3 deep at the bar for a couple of drinks before going home. If this is what you want and are willing to talk over the noise Niche is your kind of place. But again for a relaxing unique meal, this not what you would expect after reviewing the restaurant's on-line narrative. Try it and judge for yourself and if it works for you great. read more

Came for drinks after dinner in downtown Geneva. The whiskey list is to die for and the prices that go with it are quite high but you won't find this list many places. Service good. Reminds me of an old pub. Very chill space. read more
