We've just recently discovered the hidden gem that is downtown Geneva. Since I've moved back to the suburbs, I've been taking every opportunity to explore the suburban restaurant scene. Not gonna lie...Saturday night on 3rd street was poppin haha. There were literally restaurants block after block, and all of their outdoor seating just looked jam packed with people. So many different types of cuisines too. You can have a fancy dinner followed by some froyo, and then finish the night off with some beers without walking more than a few feet. Parking in front of Niche was pretty hard to come by, but luckily there's a parking garage near Burger Local that is only a few minutes walk to the restaurant. Ambiance: The restaurant itself was pretty classy. It wasn't too modern or flashy, but rather gave me a steakhouse type of decor. Maybe it's because it was only 6:30 PM, but the energy level was pretty low. The place wasn't too packed, with a lot of open tables, and it seemed like a bit of an older crowd. You didn't really feel the buzz that I'm used to in restaurants around the city. Service: Service was pretty on point. Someone was constantly checking up on us and see how we were doing. Additionally, our waiter made sure to course out our food properly so we wouldn't be bombarded with all the dishes at once. Coincidentally the tables on each side of us were celebrating their 31st anniversaries (gives you an idea of how old the crowd is haha) and the servers were really good about congratulating them and even giving them a small gift from the restaurant. Food: The menu is the reason Niche came on my radar. I'd describe it as contemporary American tapas. I wasn't sure what to expect at first because the menu looked like it could be a $$$ type place, but I thought the pricing was pretty reasonable. $10-$12 for decently portioned small plates. Elote soup - This was the soup of the day and I was immediately intrigued by the flavor profile. It was basically a blended corn chowder with bits of popcorn mixed in, and then topped with parmesan cheese and a little bit of paprika. I loved the creamy texture of the soup, and all the flavors definitely reminded me of an elote. You had the sweetness of the corn, saltiness of the cheese, a little bit of texture from the popcorn, and then finally the meaty smokiness of the paprika. We only wanted a taste, so we just ordered one cup of soup, and they were nice enough to portion it out to two bowls so we can share. Fried chicken - This dish came with two boneless strips of fried chicken over a bed of herby rice mixed with some bits of sausage, and then topped with like a chopped mango salsa. This dish had a lot going on. I don't think they necessarily complimented each other but I definitely liked each component in isolation. The chicken was juicy and perfectly crisped on the outside. It had a very subtle glaze on top that seemed to further caramelize the breading. The rice was moist and pretty mild in flavor, but the bits of sausage gave a good saltiness to the bite. The menu said there was a red curry sauce, but I didn't really taste it. Caramelized brussels sprouts - We had to get an obligatory veggie dish so we didn't feel like complete pigs, and this was a solid option. I don't usually like brussels sprouts, but these were some of the best I've had. There was such a depth of flavor that it almost tasted meaty. The caramelized glaze and the peanuts on top also gave a nice texture to every bite. Double Cheddar Burger - At first we were gonna get a side of garlic herb fries for $7, but then we noticed that the burger was only $12 and included the same fries, so we figured might as well get a side of burger too haha. At first bite, this just felt like a good handcrafted burger. The burger patties were really juicy and the meat just crumbled in your mouth. Each patty was just engulfed in gooey cheese and the bun was perfectly toasted. Toss in some bacon and pair it with some garlic fries, and I'm a happy man. Pork belly steamed buns - Usually an order of these would only come with 2 buns, but Niche actually gave a pretty generous serving of 4. The buns were perfectly moist and pillowy with a slightly sticky exterior, and the pork belly was super tender and fatty with a light sweet glaze on top. They didnt go overboard with the Asian slaw on top, and I thought they were pretty solid compared to other places I've tried. Overall, Niche serves up a solid menu and had very reasonable pricing. It's a perfect choice if you're the type of eater looking to try a little bit of a bunch of different dishes. I'd come here for the food, but not really a fan of the atmosphere. It would be better suited if you were looking for a low key, quiet dinner. read more

I was expecting the restaurant to be classy and dignified, but it is more of a roadhouse, with staff members dressed as employees of Farm and Fleet. Your seated inches apart from other patrons, seated on cafeteria style chairs and handed a curled up paper menu. With the whiskey bar in the front of the restaurant, I didn't appreciate hearing profanity being thrown about within ear range. We dressed nicely but other diners were in jeans, sweat pants and sports attire. No place for your coats, so you have to squeeze them in your already tiny seating area. The food was ordinary and overpriced. They top your order with all kinds of topping that you can't identify, and does nothing to enhance the flavor, but acts to disguise how small your main dish is. The only saving grace was our waiter, Jeremy, who was outstanding and professional. Never order the steak. All previous reviews are correct. It's dry and fatty and grossly overpriced. read more

My husband and I went here for a date night. We sat in the bar area since we didn't have reservations. We started with the oysters for an app and they were amazing. I had a fish dish that was not something i would've picked, but i went with our waitresses recommendation. Im so happy i did because it was honestly the best meal i have had in a long time! My husband did not want to come here because he has been working in the industry all his life so he alre already knew how the food was going to be prepared. Little that he know when I called to make reservations a gentleman said there were no openings and could not give me a reservation telling me it was full all the tables were taken he reassured me. Ah I said let me drive there since am 5 minute drive if it's full I will go someplace else, son of a gun when we walked in the place was EMPLTY. Wow I hope the owner knows this because t think about Niche if your employees are not taking reservations that means you are not making money. So yes we were sitted and yes of course the restaurant took many walks in including us. Later that afternoon it got packed but because they had a Hugh party The food was good but I had to ask for salt because the food had no salt and trust me I do NOT like salty things. I don't like restaurants that refuse customers just because they see the Hugh parties every customer counts BIG or small. I will no be returning back BIG disappointment. I was pleasantly surprised due to their limited menu I was worried about finding something I might like. Their description of the food is interesting and I had to ask my server to give me a clearer or simpler description of what each dish entailed. I selected the filet. It was very good, cooked perfectly. They sliced the filet and had a reduction of a plum or cranberry sauce with small potatoes. My friends had the Hake which they liked and finished the whole thing. We also ordered the brussel sprouts and that was good. The atmosphere was pleasant we could talk and hear each other. The restaurant felt warm and comfortable and we didn't feel rushed. Our server was a very nice person who was helpful and patient. All the wait staff were great. I would go again and try a different dish! read more

This reservation is long overdue as we first dined at Niche about 3 years ago when it was more upscale. When we first dined here, they had white table cloths and less chairs than they do now. Initially with our latest visit, I was a little disappointed as there aren't any fancy restaurants in West Chicago, however, although the decor is decidedly less fancy and there are more tables, the food is just as excellent as it was the first time we dined here. We dined on Valentines Day and I really appreciated that they offered a menu that you could choose from as opposed to choosing from a set prix fixe menu and set price. We had cocktails before dinner and the cocktail and wine menu were both impressive, but if you're a beer lover, they have multiple pages of selections. We chose the black currant mule and the duke which were both very good. For dinner, we chose a cab (Truchard) and a Malbec, both were great choices. We dined on the bread pudding foie gras, butter poached lobster risotto, and braised beef short ribs. Everything was EXCELLENT! Dessert consisted of dark chocolate pot de creme and an adult milkshake that was good, but very strong on the alcohol. The pot de creme was just as excellent as dinner. Just had a wonderful dinner at Niche. First let me tell you that last weekend we celebrate my wife's birthday day at Spiggia in downtown Chicago. We had the tasting menu. This evenings dinner at Niche put Spiggia's dinner to shame. Not only in the quality (taste of the food) but in the warm treatment of the staff. Brian was outstanding, his food & drink recommendations were right on! We started dinner with Niches Steam Buns (at the recommendation of Brian), followed by our main entree of 12 oz Ribeye, my wife had the braised lamb shank. We completed our dinner with a dessert trio of warm apple dumplings, bourbon stewed cherries and whiskey cake. I'm a gin drinker and normally drink Hendricks. At Brian's suggestion I tried Letherbee. I enjoyed it so much that after we left the restaurant I went and purchased a bottle to take home. Needless to say we will return to Niche with family and friends! For starters, the service was awesome here. I believe the man that served us was named Steve. He offered suggestions & was attentive the entire time. The ambience is cool & calm with a high end western whiskey bar feel. They definitely raise the bar on the craft of their cocktails. I ordered the "Sea Stories" rum cocktail- it was delicious with the shaved ice and pineapple & Peach liquor. It was comes in a super cute glass too! Whatever you do order the side order of the bone marrow fried rice- it's SO good! I'm seriously still dreaming about it. My husband and I shared the sausage platter for an appetizer which has an assortment of three different sausages & mustard & some mini garlic bread slices. The bone marrow fried rice surprised me on how delicious it was and I honestly would come back just alone for that food item, it was that good! The bartender working was also friendly & had a filled bar & noticed he still was being engaging with his guests & keeping the drinks coming out for the guests dining in the dining area too. Since moving to St.Charles my boyfriend and I have been trying to eat EvErYWhEre. We were walking around downtown Geneva with no plan when we walked pass Niche. I was immediately drawn in by the chorizo flat bread, while my boyfriend was drawn in by the Gumballhead Beer on draft. SOLD. This place in NICE. Cleanly decorated and laid out, with splashes of color and very elegant, yet they achieve a semi-casual feel which is my favorite. For drinks; my boyfriend got the Gumball Head ( a three floyds beer we rarely find on draft because places are always out) I ordered a drink with Vodka, Elderflower Liqour, Honey and Guajillo pepper oil. It was delicious. (I had two, which wasn't cheap, but Oh Well! : P) The waiter was nice enough but throughout the meal he was barley present.Just thought I'd mention that. It took us a while to get everything and not that they weren't busy, but he rarely checked back. He also called me a hipster for taking pictures haha. The service was the reason for me not giving this place 5 stars! Okay- service will not deter me from returning because the food is great. As usual we split some appetizers; Niche Burger, Steamed Mussels and Chorizo, pepper, queso fresco flat bread. Everything was wonderful. And, this way we kept the price down. I would recommend all three. Unsure if I was still hungry, I looked at the dessert menu, when I saw them, my favorite dessert despite not being a HUGE dessert person, Cream Puffs. Cream Puffs- with Strawberry mouse, white chocolate granache, strussel, macerated strawberries and BASIL. OMG these were amazing let me tell you. Niche is apparently the new kid in town when it comes to the Main Street strip in Geneva. Well at least in my book. I suppose I fail to see what else exists off the main strip. Either way, it's swanky. It's elegant. It's gorgeous. Decorated in a modern, yet classic style with sleek lines, traditional prints, and an abundance of dark woods. Niche sets the perfect stage for a sexy date night. The food itself was delicious. Fresh and local veggies from Bull Run farm, fresh meats and seafood, and vast selection of artisan cheeses & meats - contemporary American done right. You have the option of selecting from their main menu or their smaller menu which features a variety of small plates. We were celebrating our anniversary so we opted to order from both. Watermelon Salad // See uploaded picture. I can't quite describe the dish and it was nothing what I expected. It was a thinly sliced, perfectly cut rectangle of watermelon soaked in vinegar with a couple holes cut out and replaced with pineapple, basil and avocado. It wasn't bad, but it's not the first item I recommend. Burrata and Apricot Salad // Get it. Don't think twice. Grilled Ono with Dill Spaetzle // For a girl who vomits at the thought of seafood, I gave the Ono a try and actually liked it. That said, it comes highly recommended. The dill spaetzle - addictive. Bull Run Tart // Meh. Mixed emotions. For a vegetarian dish it was good. I wasn't crazy about it. The spaghetti squash was drenched in butter, which I could have done without. Mango Bomba // Amazing. Blackberry tapioca? Don't knock it 'til you try it. Trio of Arancini // These tasty morsels are on the small plates menu. If you get anything, get these. They're quite filling, full of flavor, and the best damn arancini I've yet to eat. The service was professional, prompt, and knowledgeable. However, when I asked to have my overly buttery spaghetti squash replaced with some steamed spinach I saw a lovely $5 charge on the bill. That wasn't cool. But, our dessert came free of charge so I suppose it all worked out. No hard feelings. Elegant. Sexy. Fresh. I was spoiled living in the city, having great food and plenty of options at every corner. It made me more particular about restaurants and the food I like. This place is one of my favorites out in the burbs. Every time I go, I get great service from the servers. They are really kind people. Everything I've tried on the menu has been amazing. I love their cheese board appetizer so much. Their fried chicken and half chicken are both amazing as well. I need to try to bass next. You can tell the people in the kitchen are passionate about the food that is served and always make sure everything is perfect. My favorite wine there is the ridge lyton estate petite syrah. Tried the new late night (Fri/Sat) menu. Bone marrow stuffed mushrooms were excellent. The poutine frites with foie gras gravy was very good. Recommend avoiding the pork belly flat bread until they figure out what's missing... not much flavor (other than dough), Great beer and wine selection and newly remodeled - sleeker/ more modern atmosphere... Though, they did hang onto the panoramic pasture art that used to be on the back wall... Can you find where they put it? Service was very good as always... My wife and I ate here for the first time last week. The service was great for a busy Friday, but the food was average, at best. I had the special, which was a ribeye on a bed of "herbed garlic frittes"... basically, garlic fries. I ordered the steak rare and they brought out a thin slab of "steak" that was way overcooked... it wasn't even close. The server apologized and brought out another steak. The second one was prepared correctly and it was a good steak.... but not $54 dollars good :). I mean, it was a ribeye on a BED OF FRIES. My wife ordered a fish dish and she enjoyed it but, again, it wasn't great. I will say, the wine and scotch selection was phenomenal and we shared a bottle of Washington State red that was decent. Overall, I thought the service was excellent, we had a very attentive server and we didn't let the sub-par food impact her gratuity. However; we will not be going back to Niche any time soon as the food was just okay and there are better options in the area. read more

The reason for four stars out of five was that we were in a group and some of the entrees were considerably delayed for 2 of the 6 couples that were there. This place is amazing- the service is great, the food was on another level, the interior decor is perfectly modern rustic... down to the gorgeous mid century modern eames chairs that were so comfortable, we didn't want to leave. So to start I made the choice to make a reservation for this place on Valentine's Day because I've been here before and I liked it . I've had good food here and it was good again , but my date ordered a drink and didn't cared for it so after a sip sent it back and got another drink which she didn't care for either sent it back also then settles for a glass of wine . So we ate dinner had a nice time the server really didn't seem like she wanted to be there and not a very good personality. So at the end I received the check and behold the 2 drinks that she sent back was still on the bill !? Highly unusual! Then talked to the manager or what ever he was to take it off and then he came over to me and told me not to come in wasted????? Which I absolutely wasn't . Last minute decision on a Saturday night turned out to be a winner. Great vibe. I had The Duke which is a version of an Old Fashioned and maybe the best one I've ever had. The tenderloin was outstanding accompanied by some layered potatoes that I could eat every day. My girlfriend had the Short Rib - like Butter. I would recommend the cheese board The variety was nice ,loved the smoked Blu We also ordered the grilled octopus .....very nice My wife ordered the short ribs and I ordered the 8oz fillet They were cooked perfect and although you can't go wrong with the fillet.... man I wish I had ordered the short rib it was so good. We were with 2 other couples and shared 3 of the desserts. You really won't go wrong ordering any of them but the warm whiskey cake was everyone's favorite. Undoubtedly, one of the best meals I've had in a long time. The liquor selection (four Pappy options!) is unbelievable. The drinks menu (try the Old Fashioned) is built with flair. The ambiance is tremendous. The staff is friendly, helpful, and always available. The menu (gotta try the buns!) is varied. Guests at our table raved about the pork chop, chicken, and tuna. Very cool looking place inside but they cram you in like sardines. And this is not a Covid thing, just tough to enjoy your dinner when your chatting to both tables next to you that are 3ft away. Food was pretty good. The frog legs have an over powering sauce that doesn't quite go. The cauliflower starter was very tasty and enjoyable. We both had the special steak dish. It was very tasty and good - really good complementary flavors and very Tender steak...but the steak was cold to luke warm. When we found out the price of $55, we were slightly shocked. Firstly if your special is $20 above all other mains, you probably should show this (I suppose that's probably why it isn't written anywhere). Secondarily, $55 steak shouldn't be cold. Even though price seemed high for what you are getting, I would recommend this place. We won't go back just due to how close you are all crammed in, hard to relax and enjoy yourself. read more
