I didn't think I'd ever say this... I had a great experience at the dentist last weekend! Usually, I dread going to the dentist because it's a painful experience. But Dr. Gih and the dental hygienist, Sabrina, made me feel comfortable throughout my visit. We started with an extensive questionnaire, and then Sabrina took x-rays of my teeth. Dr. Gih came in and interpreted the images with me. He even asked Sabrina to take photos with a camera to help me see certain details better. Before they started with the teeth cleaning, Dr. Gih explained the plan: he'd use the ultrasonic instrument first, then hand tools, and finish with polishing. This simple step of outlining the plan is huge to me, and I appreciated knowing what to expect. The cleaning was pretty painless, and I was happy with how clean my teeth were after. I love Dr. Gih! Who says that about their dentist? I do, because he does top notch work!! But beyond that, he's cool as a fan. He's the perfect blend of California causal and military discipline. That's probably because he is former military and it shows. It shows in his practical approach and in him being a straight shooter. I think what is most impressive about Dr. Gih however, is his attention to detail. He's incredibly conscientious and can spot a problem before you will. He's like an investigator, making assessments, asking questions and giving you honest advice on next steps or remedies. He will not tell you what you WANT to hear, he will only tell you what you NEED to hear and what is honest. You may not like it, but I haven't found him to be wrong or inaccurate yet. He's analytical and logical and applies that to how he approaches his work. He will explain the "why" and establish the "how" based upon your individual mouth structure, tooth positions, bad habits, etc. Another great quality about Dr. Gih is that he does not try and "up sell" you. I've taken good care of my teeth, have a couple of silver fillings and that's nearly it. He has never suggested I swap out my fillings or do stuff I don't need; do you know how rare that is?!? He recognized the care I put into my teeth, matched that and also believes "less is more", keep what you have in good condition and don't go fixing things that aren't broken! That's a rarity. If you want a meticulous, smart, analytical and laid back dentist, Dr. Gih is your guy. The reason I keep coming back to his "laid back" style is because that's important if you experience anxiety when going to the dentist. His easy energy will help to put you at ease. As you can see, I can't say enough great things about him. I met him after another dentist applied a replacement filling on my front tooth and told me not to bite into anything with my front teeth, ever. It broke four times, enter Dr. Gih, he assessed my bite, made the proper adjustments to my teeth, and the new filling hasn't broken since; that was probably five years ago. I was looking for a new dentist in the Claremont area because the dentist I had previously tried to upsell me on various products, and I didn't like that experience when just going in to have my teeth cleaned/examined. I went to Dr. Gih based on the reviews here on Yelp and I am glad that I did. Great first experience getting my teeth cleaned and x-rays. Courteous staff and personal service. Dr. Gih is nice and very gentle with the cleaning. I went back recently because I had to have a filling, and it was as good of an experience as you can have getting a filling. I was honestly a bit hestitant because my mouth is super sensitive when it comes to fillings; wasn't sure that the second time in his office would be as pleasant as the first was with my cleaning. Just switched to Dr. Gih after a recommendation. All my previous doctors always seemed to find lots of work to do on my teeth and were semi-pushy. I ended up paying thousands for work, so I was pleasantly suprised when after my X-rays and cleaning I didn't have any issues other than the ones I knew about. I had some minor work I knew needed to be addressed and he gave me his advice and never pressured me to do anything. I have this permanent retainer my previous doctor installed after invisalign that had broken in a couple places. He told me I could even have my permanent retainer removed if I wanted, not pushy at all to do more work that might not have been necessary. But I know my teeth have moved in the past so I opted to get a new one installed. Dr. Gih was able to take a mold and get a new one made and installed within a few weeks. At the same time he was able to take a mold of my teeth for a mouth guard (for my teeth grinding) and have it ready when I came in for my new retainer. So now my retainer is all fixed, got a mouth guard for my grinding, and teeth all cleaned. He hooked me up with all the typical toothbrush and retainer cleaning solutions. There is plenty of parking outside, never had any issues and I never had to wait more than 5-10 minutes in the waiting room. The staff all seemed nice and was easy to make an appointment over the phone. All-in-all a great experience! read more

After moving to Claremont and too many failed attempts to continue on with our previous dentist in South Pasadena due to distance, we switched to Dr. Gih after finding his name on our insurance company's website and comparing it to the online reviews. From my initial phone call to schedule appointments through the time our appointments were over and I was scheduling the next ones, the office staff was friendly, welcoming, helpful, and personable. Definitely some of the best I've encountered. I loved our previous dentist and was very concerned that Dr. Gih wouldn't compare, but I was wrong. He met or exceeded the high bar I had set in every way. For both of my children and me, he was very gentle and informative, taking the time to make sure the work was done properly and clearly explaining everything that he was doing. This was especially important when it came time for him to examine my youngest son, showing him the instruments he was using and explaining what they do. His hygienist (whose name I have, unfortunately, forgotten) was equally amazing in both her friendly and gentle demeanor but also in the way she explained everything that she was doing. Dr. Gih addressed concerns that I'd had for years about my older son's teeth but had been dismissed or ignored by previous dentists and actually took them seriously, referring him to a few different specialists. That level of knowledge and integrity was very impressive and left me feeling like this is someone we can really rely on and trust for our dental needs. I hate to admit it, but I'm one of those unlucky people that are more prone to cavities than your average bear. For years I thought I was receiving the best care from another dentist, until all sorts of calamity happened. I was seeing my previous dentist very regularly to get a good amount of cavity work on, and then I had a bad root canal... how can that even happen when I've been getting frequent dental work done?! You can see by my xrays that they were doing the smaller cavities first, which was really upsetting because after reviewing my case with Dr. Gih, my suspicions were confirmed that their treatment plan was a set up for failure. If I'm getting these small cavities fixed, why was my bigger one not addressed first?? Because they want to pass go and collect $$$ for a crown! Ugh! Never again! Anyway, long story short, It's SOOO hard to find a trustworthy dentist. I was actually shopping around for a good dentist and you would NOT believe the crazy treatment plans and cost estimates that I was getting. Fast forward to Dr. Gih... his treatment plan made perfect sense and I felt so relieved that my treatment plan was very fair and affordable! He never tried to up-sell me and gave me a number of options, and I honestly felt very comfortable with him. I could tell that he was genuinely upset with the treatment plans and prices that I was previously presented with. When I actually got my treatments done, I found the office to be very flexible with appointments. Dr. Gih did a great job filling my cavities and created a very comfortable crown. I found the process to be painless and the most comfortable it could be granted the nature of the procedure! With that said, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND Dr. Gih. I find him to be very smart, thorough and TRUSTWORTHY! I give him extra points especially since he's served overseas while in the military. I've been hesitating and putting off a trip to the dentist since......... 2008!!! Needless to say, I was quite apprensive about going back to the dentist. I thought I'd need a lot of work done, and I wanted to find a dentist closer to home. (My last dentist was in Ontario, and I live in Claremont). I saw all of their yelp reviews, and decided to see for myself how many stars this place should get Dr Gih and his staff were very nice, knowledgeable, and welcoming the entire time. Staff is also very nice, and Maria explains how it all works out with your insurance (they take metlife for anyone looking for a dentist) I had a deep cleaning and xrays done today. They kept telling me what to expect, and even went over the right way to brush after. And yes, I've been doing it wrong the whole time :/ ... Dr Gih is my family dentist since one years ago. I picked him because I cannot believe the straight 5 stars reviews on yelp.com. Also, it is so convenience to communicate with them via yelp. I got a reply in less than 25 minutes. On the photo that is actually how Dr. Gih is, when he is on your bedside. He is the friendliest doctor I have ever seen in my life. The dental assistants are very nice people as well. I think we are fizzy, sensitive and sometimes mean people but I never feel uncomfortable there.We have silly requests and questions all the time and Dr. Gih is always patient with us. I swear Dr. Gih seriously worries about my son's of cavities more than I do. That is how much he cares. I have my teeth orthodontics done when I was a teenager. So, I have visited different dentists frequently in the past. I can tell thaht Dr. Gih has faultless technique. Seldom I commented on business that I am still visiting, but I just cannot help it. There is plenty of parking in the back (just incase you're running late.) The office is clean and I really liked the large open window in the exam room. Let me start off by saying Dr. Gih is amazing. Traumatic experiences in the past had me avoiding the dentist for years! Other dentist offices felt so unwelcoming, and always seemed like the staff were pressured to churn out patients as fast as possible with little regard to their quality of work. This is not the case with Dr Gih. You are greeted with a smile as soon as you walk into his office. His staff is always professional and courteous. I can tell that they all love working here and have a genuine enthusiasm for helping their patients feel their best. I went in for a deep teeth cleaning and explained to Dr. Gih why I was so fearful/avoidant of the dentist. He was so patient with me, answered all my questions, and made sure to thoroughly explain what he would perform that day. He clearly outlines what procedures he feels you need to get done, but leaves it up to the patient to decide what procedures they can afford. Of course he will tell you which are medically necessary, but this definitely took the pressure off of me as I have had past dentists try to upsell unnecessary procedures. As for the teeth cleaning, it was amazing! Since I avoided the dentist for so long, I had years of tartar that needed to be taken care of. Dr. Gih was so meticulous in his work. My mouth feels and looks great! After the final portion of my teeth cleaning, I decided on a whim to get whitening. Well after putting off the dentist for way, WAY too long (close to 7 years, yikes!) I finally decided that I was going to look on Yelp and try to find a dentist to go to and finally stop putting it off! I had some unpleasant dentist experiences in the past and was very nervous about going back. I saw all the great reviews Dr. Gih had so I thought I would call and see if they accepted my insurance. They were very helpful and checked my insurance and let me know that it was accepted there. I made an appointment and immediately started being nervous about going. (Yes, I am THAT nervous about dentists!) I went in for my appointment and I was so pleasantly surprised. My last dentist was at a large dental office (with multiple dentists, several locations, etc.) and I immediately noticed the different atmosphere here. It was a much quieter, less stressful experience. I didn't just feel like I was a number, being herded through like cattle. I felt like a valued patient! The whole thing was such an easy experience. I ended up only needing one minor filling. It was a quick and painless experience and I have promised myself I will stay on a regular schedule from now on to avoid the stress of worrying about it! I was visiting SoCal and had completely chipped my tooth. This was the first time this has EVER happened to me. I was so embarrassed. Luckily my friends who live in SoCal were referred to Dr. Gih. I am a student who does not currently have dental insurance so I did a little shopping around until I found a Dentist who I believed would be fairly priced and took advantage of the yelp deal. All of the staff have a very strong service-orientation, all the way from Dr. Gih down through the hygienists and reception staff. I'm not particularly picky about my dentists, but at the same time I've had a few horror stories that have scarred me from my childhood. Upon my arrival, I received x-rays and and a thorough cleaning as well as a very transparent conversation with Dr. Gih about the most cost effective way to go about taking care of my intolerable toothache. Turns out I needed a root canal. OUCH! Though the procedure was inevitably expensive, it was still significantly cheaper than other dental offices in the area (about $300 less). Dr. Gih handled the procedure with extreme care and talked me through the entire procedure, which is nice considering that some dentists in the past have just drilled away at my teeth with no warning. All in all I would recommend Dr. Gih for his excellent customer service, transparency and precision. read more

Dr. Gih is hands-down, the most experienced and skilled dentist whom I've met. I had gone through so many different dentists when I had a severe toothache. None of the other dentists could diagnose the issue. Dr. Gih was able to formulate the proper diagnosis and care regimen for my molar. No time was wasted. It's convenient that Dr. Gih can do all restorative procedures, so that patients don't need to be referred out for treatment. Dr. Gih is able to do crowns and endodontic treatment, which makes it much more convenient for busy folks. It's also really reassuring that Dr. Gih first does a caries risk assessment, and he caters our treatment plan to specifically suit each individuals' need. Even if we had to move out of the area, I'd still see Dr. Gih for any and all dental procedures. Definitely highly recommend to my friends and family. read more

This review is long overdue. I've been looking for a good dentist for a while now. My usual dentist is in SF so the trek up there is a little too far for me these days. With that said, I dread looking for a new dentist. One of my friends referred me to Dr. Gih. I was told his practice is new, but that he's been a dentist for the army for a few years. I was a little hesitant to go in, but I really needed a check up and cleaning. To my surprise, this former army dentist is really gentle and thorough! I love dentists that can get the job done without hurting me in the process. The office staff was really nice and professional as well. It didn't take them very long to process my insurance. I went to Dr. Gih for a routine checkup and cleaning. I've had bad experiences with dentists in the past, especially when it comes to unnecessary procedures. I always appreciate the entire staff, including the doctor at this dentist's office, but today I had a dental hygienist that I had never seen before, and she was indeed the best I've ever had. She let me know ahead of time what to expect, she informed me of any differences in the tools they were using from a past visit, and the hygienist always let me know when she was going to apply pressure, and showed me a different way to floss. I was so lucky to find this dentist. My son suffered an injury to one of his teeth and the staff was awesome. I was accommodated and seen quickly and was super happy with the amount of time spent with both the dentist and the RDH. The receptionist went out of her way to text me concerning a new appointment time change and I literally couldn't be happier. I have delta dental insurance which was accepted.
