    Apple Tart and Cardamom Bun
    Megan W.

I came here one weekend recently. There was in fact a long line but it moved fast, it was probably two stores down and I was in and out in 15 minutes. The prices were reasonable, it was around 11 in the morning and still a good amount of options although some things were gone. The ramp pastry was one of the best things I've had in NYC this year. The cardamom bun and the apple tart were both also very good. After having these we even convinced two other friends to go later in the day. They too agreed the pastries were exceptional.

I happened to see a long line formed going out of this bakery off when I got off the bus stop and was curiously enticed by the smell of baked goods wafting out. I got the Pain Au Chocolat. Maybe I was already hungry, but it was crazy good. The croissant was given delightfully warm and fresh. The chocolate and the flaky layers were a pleasant joy against the cold day.

I came here the other morning around 11am, and there was a small line. The space itself is pretty decent with some space to stand and eat (though no tables or anywhere to sit). They had a small menu of offerings to choose from, including many varieties of danishes, breads and croissants along with a couple of sandwich options. The service was friendly as well. I got the zaatar croissant and a regular croissant, and both were extremely delicious. They were flaky and moist and had a beautiful lamination to them. I would absolutely come back to try more items!

Walked past at around 10:30am on a Sunday and it smelled sooo good. The line was out the door, but I couldn't resist and hopped in line. Luckily, it moved pretty quickly and I was able to grab a za'atar croissant in around 10 mins. The croissant was so good - warm, flaky, and buttery. Crispy on the outside but soft on the inside. I loved the za'atar filling. Definitely will be coming back to try their other pastries sometime soon!

This is probably my favorite bakery within Williamsburg, not including Radio Bakery in Greenpoint. The pastries are on point, flaky, delicious and well priced and the food just overall tastes good. Get here early though, they have normal bakery hours so aren't around all day, and things do sell out, so you may not get your first dibs if you take too long. This is more of a come in and come out place though, so bring it home for some breakfast.

Nick + Sons has my favorite croissant in all of NYC! However when I came in just before 12 this trip, most of their croissants already ran out. I ended up only getting a croissant that they described as being a croissant stuffed with custard and chocolate, as well as a pain au chocolat. I think I preferred the pain au chocolate as the first croissant didn't have enough custard In my opinion.

The ham and cheese was only like the middle part 1/3 of the croissant. Croissant was fluffy and nice crisp, but not amazing.

Very basic ham and cheese croissant that only filled the middle 1/3 of the sandwich. Ham and cheese flavor and quality wasn't amazing. Cold brew was decent. Service was quick. Space is relatively empty aside from a standing counter with a short width.

Nick & Sons Bakery is literally right across the street from McCarren Park. The location is super convenient, but honestly what makes it even better is the space inside. They've got this huge waiting area, which doesn't sound like a big deal until it's the middle of winter and you're not stuck shivering outside while your pastry dreams flash before your eyes. The croissants here are the real reason to go, and they do not disappoint. They're perfectly flaky and buttery, the kind that basically explode into layers the second you bite in. You can actually watch them pulling trays in and out of the massive industrial ovens. My go-to is the ham and cheese croissant- super savory, crispy but not greasy. They've also got some other killer options, like a za'atar croissant that's herb-y and different in the best way, and a fig danish that hits that sweet-savory balance with cream cheese and fruit. If you can pry yourself away from the croissants, the seeded sourdough is also a standout. The only "meh" thing is that it's not really a sit-down café. You're not coming here to lounge with your laptop for hours, it's more of a grab-your-pastry, maybe hang for a bit, and then head out. They do have a standing bar inside but tbh, you'll finish your pastries in a few minutes. Come early if you're coming on a weekend as they often sell out by 12pm.

    Best croissant of my LIFE
    Lindsey C.

Hands down best croissants I've ever had in my life. I didn't know I needed an everything croissant until I found theirs. crisp, flaky, golden-brown exterior that shatters when you bite into it. Interior soft, light, airy, with a distinct honeycomb structure. It's rich and buttery but not overly greasy at all. Truly divine! And the vegan chocolate chip cookie (only vegan item on menu when I was there) was perfection.

Ham and cheese croissant was very excellent, especially right out of the oven. It's got this softness inside with an explosion of flavor sitting on the surface of that flaky and crispy exterior. One of those pastries where you're aware of every bite you take because you really do savor it. Line moved quickly & love a place that has milk out on the counter to adjust levels of coffee milkiness.

I was pleasantly surprised by the zatar cheddar croissant! I've never had this flavor combo before and it was soooo good. The croissant was extra chewy because of the cheese which almost gave it a mochi like texture. Line was decent but moves very quick! No seats inside but there is a park nearby to sit down! Highly recommend the croissant, probably one of my favourite savory croissants in the city.

Cardamon bun, za'atar croissant, tomato/spinach pastry
    Elayne W.

A solid bakery with a delicious za'atar croissant! I've never had anything with that flavor before. The cardamon bun was too fragrant for my liking - it tasted a bit perfume-y. The tomato/spinach pastry was also good but I would have preferred more toppings to even out the pastry ratio. The line can seem long but it moves fast so don't be intimidated! I would come back to try more savory options.

This place has been on my list for a long time but it's just a bit out of the way for me so I only got around to visiting recently. The bakery itself is pretty spacious but there are no tables, just counters if you want to eat there. I got there a little past 11am on a weekday and they were already sold out of their popular items (cardamom bun, za'tar croissant etc.) I got the plain croissant ($4) and the chocolate almond croissant ($6). I didn't realize it until later but they actually gave me two chocolate almond croissants - I think because they were on the smaller side but it was a happy discovery. I'm don't really consider myself a croissant connoisseur, but I thought the croissants were really solid: it was crispy and flaky on the outside and had a good chew in the inside, which I didn't expect. Not greasy at all either. Overall I thought it was great - I just wish I could've come earlier to try their za'tar croissant and their cardamom bun.

The space is relatively small, with a line inside and outside and a few tables outside. The length of the line and wait time varies based on the time of day and if you go on a weekday vs weekend. Go early if you don't want them to sell out of anything or purposely go a little later if you want one of their lunch sandwiches on focaccia. I have had the tomato and garlic focaccia twice now and each time it has been exceptional. Minor critique, the slices of garlic could be a bit smaller. I also had the shakshuka focaccia which is divine and I would absolutely recommend both. I need to come back to try their sandwiches as well. I am not a sweets person, but everyone I know loves their pastries. Getting someone a gif tcard here makes for a great gift.

I'm usually more of a savory girlie but all the sweet items we tried were great, especially the rhubarb croissant and the earl grey morning bun. I really enjoyed the focaccia sandwiches (smoked salmon and pea/mint/feta were elite) and the artichoke green garlic slice. The flavor of the sesame stirato was excellent but the bread itself was a tad too chewy for the filling we got with it (tuna salad), so that style probably works better with the jambon beurre. Will definitely be on the rotation whenever I'm in the city -- would love to try some of their seasonal/limited edition items one day, though not sure if I have it in me to brave the lines that can form on the weekends, lol! We'll see :)

It is so clear that they use incredibly high-quality ingredients and carefully curate each component, which is exactly why everything comes together in such an elevated way. The tomatoes reminded me of the ones I grew in my garden during California summers as a teenager. Perfectly salted, layered over soft, not-too-tart feta. The focaccia was made with beautiful olive oil and, while a bit chewier than I usually prefer, gave the sandwich a satisfying bite. I had to close my eyes while eating it just to savor it. The chocolate cherry almond croissant... wow. Such a creative combination, and it did not disappoint. Soft, buttery, and filled with a sour cherry compote that reminded me of a cherry cordial from a box of chocolates. 5/5. Hainsley, who helped me, was exceptionally lovely. Everyone even in line was very nice, the vibes were awesome. I'll definitely be back to try the spicy tofu sandwich and the heirloom tomato tart!

While they didn't have their full selection available, there were still plenty of pastries to choose from. We ended up getting the vanilla kouign amann and the chocolate PB&J croissant. The kouign amann was flaky, buttery, and beautifully caramelized. The chocolate PB&J croissant was easily our favorite. It was filled with rich, decadent chocolate and a layer of jelly that balanced everything out without making it overly sweet. My significant other hasn't stopped talking about it since! We're already looking forward to coming back to try more.
