Old school. Respectful. Handy. Fred has visited twice for separate HVAC issues, heat and AC. Shows up, takes shoes off before coming in, has no issues showing you specifically what the technical issue is so you can understand it in layman's terms. Guy may be a little long in the tooth but he can crawl into the tiniest of openings in attics or basements to get to the source. Keeps his word and doesn't try and "hard sell". read more

First of all, Fred the owner is a really really nice guy. Had a good conversation with him. He was called since my AHS warranty contracts with him. But the issue was with my AC never got resolved. I specifically told him it was the wires but nope, didn't listen. And I had to pay for the freon for around $800. But still, I hoped that the issue was fixed. American Home Shield assigned us South Placer Heating and Air, their tech was assigned 3 days later, didn't call ahead, was rude and condescending to my girlfriend, and left saying he couldn't find any trouble. I called AHS and demanded to have another vendor assigned, and they assigned Nick Tech. I received a call the next morning, and Fred accommodated our urgent need into his busy schedule...with politeness and professionalism....and got our AC fixed quickly! Not a customer, but still had a bad experience with them. My son is handicapped and we parked in a handicap spot at Costco. When we returned to our car, they parked in the "no parking" zone next to our vehicle So close to us that we couldn't open those doors. Fortunately, my son is not wheelchair bound and we have no need for a ramp, but there are plenty of people who are and their inconsideration for the disabled could cause someone major issues. I truly can't say enough good things I have experienced with this company . I had stellar service at 100% , and a very satisfied customer! The owner actually takes the time to show ME of all people how to avoid the chances of him coming back again with a tutorial of keeping my AC unit clean and free of debris with my garden hose! Honest and got the job done right - after two earlier contractors failed us. For example, South Placer Heating & Air really steered us wrong, "fixing" and charging us for stuff that did not fix the primary, critical issue of a leaking (!) AC unit, that was putting our home in danger of serious water damage. I pressed our Home Warranty company, American Home Shield, to provide a more reputable option and was fortunate to have Nick Tech assigned. I had to withdraw 5 star rating due to I had Hvac service done this year, this time I went with a different Hvac company because I noticed after Fred came and replaced compressor, the entire summer last year unit would never sufficiently cool down home in heat of day nor turn off just kept running. So I called love and care Hvac and they signed off on work. I explained to them the same as written above and gave top rating, but still unit kept running then of course winter came and unit off till now! and when I had service champions come do summer tune up they immediately located the issue after their diagnostics. Turns out Fred did not fill the unit up correctly with freon. I am sure he did that to cut corners due to AHS sent him to do the work. I even gave fred 150 dollars for the freon he did put in!( under the table). Seems like AHS uses unethical companies to do the work for their clients who have their Home Warranty Plan. I will switch to Select asap. I reported to AHS, that I had to spend another 345 in freon which should have been done correctly with Fred/ Nick tech Hvac . The thing is this Fred U placed my new compressor in danger by under filling it. You know that would cause unit to work harder! but that was not important, the customer. AHS I lost faith in your insurance coverage due to the people you contract with. I will be switching to Select Home warranty asap! Trust is everything!!!!!! read more

Fred does a good job. Old school style dude with a van but knows whats going on. Diagnosed a leak quickly added the refrigerant and was on his way. Came back a couple days later to add easy seal. It helps to double confirm with him and remind him the day of. But all and all a good experience. read more

A/C went down on Sunday night and Monday morning, Fred's company Nick Tech was assigned by American Home Shield. He came out Tuesday (earlier than expected) and quickly diagnosed the faulty fan motor. Although he wasn't sure at the time how long to get the new motor, he surprised me 24 hours later by showing up after a full day's work to get my A/C working again. Hallelujah! Like other reviews, American Home Shield assigned us South Placer Heating and Air first. My ( tenant's ) heater went out during a cold snap, on a Sunday morning! Having a three week old baby, I needed to get them their heater fixed FAST. The AHS expedited time frame for a response is 4 hours (btw), and I independently called SPH&A for those 4 hours!! (Their website says they are a 24-7 company - Never got a hold of anyone. ) Finally got AHS to change companies and got a hold of Nick Tech. Fred told us he'd be there Monday afternoon by 3, which was very reasonable, it already being Sunday at 4 p.m. He got there Monday MORNING! He then ordered the needed parts, fixed it on Wednesday. American Home Shield assigned Nick Tech to me for my heating/ac duct problems. He called me promptly and told me that he hadn't had a vacation in 10 years and also had a family thing that he wanted to go to and asked if I would wait about 2 weeks for him to get back. He said that he would call me on Nov. 13th and that I would be the first customer that he would see on the 14th. He sounded sincere so after talking with my wife, we decided to give him the necessary time and wait for him to get back. Well, today is November 18th and still NO CALL. I called AHS to advise them of the problem. While I was on the phone, the customer service rep called Nick Tech and 'lo and behold' he was in town and said that he would come out today at 3:00. OMG! Nick Tech will get all my business...cannot say enough good things. Another company was assigned the work order by my American Home Shield. They came to diagnose, said I was 3 pounds low on Freon, next guy comes out without leak testing the system and charged it with 2 pounds Freon. I kept saying, "It's still blowing hot air" they assured me it was fixed. I called AHS again, they called the first company "Allright Mechanical" they declined the work order and opened the door for Nick Tech to be assigned for free. Fred A. called me an hour later, made an appointment for Monday, he ended up calling me on Saturday to tell me they had time to come look at it that day. They quickly found the system had NO Freon in it, it was all over my roof. They said they would send the diagnosis to AHS and get authorization to repair. I didn't hear from AHS and tried to call them on my way home from work, when I got home Fred from Nick Tech was on my roof getting the job done! Needless to say I now have AC. He also noticed a connect wire was fried and very loose, he repaired that too! BONUS: I didn't have to pay for the Freon or repair because it was a "Second Opinion" , but if I had to pay Nick Tech for the Freon they only charge $30.00 per pound. I will not be renewing my Home Warranty with AHS. But I will call Nick Tech for any future Electrical, Mechanical, Heating and Cooling!!!! read more
