If there's one thing to say about this place: "It gets the job done." This isn't the shiniest or the most glimmering spot in all of downtown San Jose but you come for what you've been craving. Something warm and toasty to accompany a wild night out with friends. Patrons who might speak with their outdoor voices inside. Table that are always covered in water. Well, I hope that liquid is water. The staff will serve you fresh pitas and fries along with your choice of protein. Your stomach acid will soak up the macros and your hangover will be sorely missed. A great place to hit if you're avoiding La Vics.

Your typical franchise. Variety menu and sticky tables. Let's be honest, you stopped by for the yogurt! Not a bad choice. Next time I'll have to give their food a try.

Came here at a late night for dinner with a friend. There is ample space inside of the restaurant, which was well-lit with a welcoming ambiance, and a decent amount of parking in the form of one of the public Downtown San Jose parking lots that you have to pay money for after 90 minutes. The server was very direct in a way that came off as slightly rude, but I'll excuse it since it was very late and I assume a lot of us were probably tired. The menu was a little hard to navigate, with no list of what ingredients were inside outside of the markings that let you know whether something was gluten-free or vegan-friendly. Some of the gyros (like the lamb gyro) were apparently locked behind a combo, which was a little strange considering they were marked on the menu as regular items. After some deciding I got the Gyro Combo with lamb meat and Greek Fries, which was a decent amount of food. The food was also a decent level of savory, and came with a small portion of salad. Overall, eating at Nick the Greek was a decent experience. A lot of their salads looked really enticing (which is pretty weird as I'm not usually a salad person) so I wouldn't mind returning again to try it. I'm sure the service will be more lively in the afternoon.

Ordered a chicken wrap that had fries in it, when it finally arrived there was ONE singular fry in it. Really disappointing. The willow glen location gives a good amount of fries in them, but one is just sad

Visited before watching a game at SAP. I ordered ahead and when I arrived the food was ready earlier than expected. Plave was clean and staff were kind. Gyro bowl was delicious and I found the portion to be generous. Price is fair.

Staff was helpful as we tried to decide what to get. The food was served quickly which was nice since we had our kids with us. The food all tasted good (and I sampled every plate!) My 8 year old wrote her own review :).

Loved my experience at Nick the Greek! I came for dessert and had to try the loukoumades--these Greek doughnut balls are a must-try. They're warm, fluffy, and perfectly crisp on the outside, generously drizzled with honey and sprinkled with cinnamon. Every bite is sweet, light, and absolutely delicious, making them the perfect treat if you're craving something unique and satisfying. The staff was friendly and quick, and the clean, modern restaurant made it a great spot to relax. If you're new to Greek desserts, loukoumades are essentially little fried dough balls drenched in syrup, sometimes with nuts or extra toppings--Nick the Greek nails it. I highly recommend adding this dessert to your order! I can't wait to come back for more.

Nick the Greek hit the spot. Fresh bowls loaded with flavor, tender gyro meat, crisp veggies, and sauces that actually taste homemade. Portions were solid, everything came out fast, and the place had a relaxed family-friendly vibe. Simple, clean, delicious -- exactly what you want when you're grabbing Greek food downtown. Definitely coming back. Great service.

Ask the Community - Nick The Greek

For the Gyro, does the bowl or pita taste better?

Is the rice vegetarian, or is an animal stock used to cook it?

Does their feta have cow dairy or is just sheep's milk? Cow dairy allergy here

    Are there gluten-free options?

They have rice but no gf bread

What's in the spicy sauce? I need to make sure allergies won't be an issue n I love spicy food.

what are your food allergies? We use a diverse mix of spices and ingredients.

How does the Gyro here compare to somewhere like Opa?

Flavorful and very generous portion for probably less money but Opa!'s is likely a little better.

They are located in a little strip mall on Alma Ave a few doors down from The Giving Pie. The parking lot is not huge but it we were able to find parking with no problem. The inside is nicely decorated with pictures of famous places in Greece. It's not huge inside but cozy with several tables for inside seating as well as a patio outside for outdoor seating. You can scan the QR code at your table or order at the front counter. We ordered from the front counter. We ordered the highly recommended Mousaka, the 3 piece plate with a side of green Greek salad. We chose the chicken skewer, pork skewer, and bifteki for our 3 meat choices as well as an order of Spanikopita. Our food was delivered to our table promptly. I grew up eating my Mom's Mousaka and I've eaten it in Athens, Naxos and Santorini. Let me tell you, their Mousaka was excellent. The eggplant, potato, meat filling and béchamel on the top were perfect. It's definitely a must try. The three skewers of meat were so flavorful and juicy. Both my husband and I loved it!! The pita bread it came with so warm and soft. The Spanikopita was fresh and hot. Delicious flaky phyllo dough with a savory spinach interior. The salads that came with each dish were also wonderful. Their feta on the top was so good and I loved the Kalamata olives. Customer service here was great. The young lady that helped us when we ordered was very friendly and helpful. It started getting busy inside while we were eating and I can see why. This is delicious homemade Greek food made from the heart. We will be coming here more often, now that we know about this place. There are many other things we are looking forward to trying.

Double Combo Plate I ordered - Turmeric Rice - Chicken Shawarma and Gyro Beef - The Works (Everything included) - Tzatziki sauce - Falafel (Side) - Waffle Fries (Side) Okay, the presentation of the combo plate wasn't the most aesthetically pleasing, but I looked past it. Unfortunately, the chicken and beef were lacking in flavor and were pretty dry. The portions were generous, though the gyro beef was sliced pretty thin. The veggies were actually fresh, which was a plus. The hummus was on the lighter side flavor-wise, while the Baha Ghanouj had a solid roasted aftertaste. The Achilles spread was... interesting. It was very fatty with a garlic aftertaste. It just wasn't my thang. The waffle fries were cool. They were fried well and had a good crunch, but nothing special. The falafel, though, was pretty disappointing. I'm not sure if I just got a bad batch. They were very crunchy, but had a weird dish-soap aftertaste that I couldn't get past. I couldn't finish the rest. Sorry, but I'll be on the lookout for another Mediterranean spot.

1st time here. A friend invited me to join her, and said it was where many of her co-workers ate…read more The short version is: my meal was very sub-par, and way over-priced. The details: I normally don't eat a lot of meat, so I chose the Falafel Salad. It came with extremely little lettuce, plus a few olives (which I don't eat), onions (which I also eat sparingly), tomatoes, cucumbers, and the falafel balls. Oh! And there was feta cheese, but those were such miniscule pieces, and so few, that I wouldn't have remembered it was supposed to be part of the salad, if I didn't just pull up a photo online with their ordering system. What you see in the photo online is not what you get. The photo actually looks like a salad. Since it was called a salad, I expected there to be more lettuce, than the few pieces on the plate. I mainly was cutting up the cucumber & tomato pieces to go with the falafels. I don't even recall any dressing. There were also some pita slices with what I assumed was hummus. Whatever the dip was, it did not taste good to me at all. So I left all of the pita bread, as well, since it was dry without anything on it. Maybe what I assumed was hummus was a dressing. Hard to know, but it was not tasty. For the $27 I paid at a walk up counter, I would have expected much better food! I have bought frozen falafels at Lunardis (around $7) and made a salad for them at home, and enjoyed it very much, which is why I ordered it. I have purchased Spanakopita at the store many times, (about $5 for around 12 of them at the store) and made them at home, which is why I didn't order that. The falafel salad was not an enjoyable meal for me at Yiassoo's. I'd also seen some reviews from a few years back that said they paid around $10 or $11 for their meal. That is more in-line price-wise with what you get, based upon my meal. With most of the meals around $20 for lunch, I feel they were very over-priced. I also asked my friend if she'd like to split a Baklava. They had a pistachio one & chocolate one. My friend wanted to try the chocolate one, so I bought that. I didn't think I was too into baklava, but thought it might be nice to try at this highly rated Greek restaurant. The main flavor that came through was the honey & nuts. The chocolate was just a tiny, narrow drizzle on top. I didn't hate it, but I would never order it again. My friend took one bite, and said she mainly tasted the honey, and would take it home for her husband. It may be very good baklava, but it was not to our tastes. My friend ordered the Gyro salad. It had a large pile of shaved meat, and she seemed to enjoy it. She ordered it To-Go, as she knew she'd be taking some of it home. She seemed to have more lettuce under her pile of meat than my meal got. Maybe because it was in a To-Go box, which might be larger than the plate? Or maybe the person making my salad just wasn't paying attention to how to make a decent meal. I was hoping I was trying a restaurant that I could go back to for something different. Based upon my experience, I would not go back, if I had a choice. I gave it 3 stars, because maybe other dishes, or people looking to just eat meat or falafel balls and not much else would enjoy it. I only have the 1 meal to review, but it does not encourage me to try it again. Overpriced & not a fulfilling meal.

We got: - dolmades mezes starter: it was warm and had beef in it which was unexpected -- I'm almost certain we had a different version of these before that did not have meat and were served cold, I have never really loved these lol but my partner has really enjoyed the cold version before because he found it really refreshing. The warm one was interesting, still enjoyable to him but not as much as before - beef souvlaki plate with fries instead of salad: I loved this! I asked for no lettuce, and the server said I could switch out the salad for fries instead. The beef was so tender and flavored well, super savory, and I absolutely LOVE the olive dip that comes with this dish. The fries were okay! I enjoyed dipping them into the olive dip. - swordfish souvlaki wrap no lettuce with fruit: option to get fries instead, but we got fruit. My mom liked it! I tried some of the swordfish and it had a nice light flavor, quite tender and very nice. I've also gotten the grilled branzini before, which is a whole entire fish. Warning that you may need to use your hands to eat this directly lol I really enjoyed this dish too! When we arrived, they mentioned we could sit anywhere we wanted. There was both indoor and outdoor seating. We sat outdoors so it was a tad warm but they provide shade. There is a tent as well with a plastic surrounding but as for any restaurant with these plastic surroundings, I always find the plastic smell so strong and offputting, so we sat at the tables instead where they have umbrellas providing a lot of shade. We sat next to a bougainvillea bush which also provides us shade and some entertainment as little birds hopped back and forth inside the bush and then out of it to nearby tables, looking for food. So cute! Parking can be found in the lot behind the restaurant, but the entrance is still found around the other side of the building, on the side of the outdoor seating. You can also park on the side of the street in front of the restaurant, but there's less shade. We arrived at a 3pm on a Friday with almost no one else there, so once our whole party was present we got service immediately. The food takes some time to cook but as mentioned, it's delicious. Overall a really cute restaurant!
