Once again their food is absolutely excellent. I feel like I'm back in Europe eating real food. I've already written a review but I'm going to add on to new items I tried recently. Just got the lamb shanks with vegetables and it's absolutely amazing. Recently tried a special they had which eggplant I believe, stuffed with kefte which is there seasoned ground beef Yum and yum again. These guys are great and incredibly hospitable and super nice people , all of them. I go 3,4 even 5 times a week to get my lunch or dinner. Try royal kebabs , you won't regret it. I've eaten here a couple times now, and it's been consistently positive and delicious. When I came in for some lunch take out today, the owner greeted me at the door and was so polite and kind. I always get a combo gyro plate and a falafel plate, then take it home to share lunch with my husband. When the teenagers get home from school, they eat every last grain of rice. :) So delicious. I quite enjoyed the gyro wrap I had here. I didn't have a really close look, but it looked to me like the meat on the big skewers was real meat. It was tasty and came with a nice sauce and there was spicy sauce on the table. The inside is pretty basic, but has everything you need and is clean. The service is very good also. Although you order at the counter, they bring you the food and make sure you have napkins and utensils. They also have iced tap water readily available. It is a little pricey, but honestly most places are these days, so as long as the food is good quality, which this was, it's par for the course. I'd like to come back and try one of the plates. The gyro was reasonably sized, but I could definitely eat more next time. read more

For the Greek Pita Chicken Gyro, all of the sauces contain dairy so I asked for my pita with no sauce. The pita contains Chicken Gyro with onions, lettuce, tomatoes, and generally tzatziki sauce (which I asked to be removed). The chicken was very moist despite ordering as take out! The pita comes with a side of fries which was very nicely seasoned. I also ordered a small Choban salad. The salad contains tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, parsley, lemon, olive oil, and sumac. As a huge proponent of trying as many things on a menu as possible, the Royal mix plate was an easy decision when ordering food here. It came with lamb and beef gyro, chicken gyro, chicken shish kebab, lamb shish kebab, and beef kofte, all served with rice, salad, and pita. The food was fresh and flavorful, and you got a pretty decent sized portion of each. I tasted everything right away, but ate a majority of the meal the next day, and am glad to say just about everything help up, and the chicken kebab got even better. The only thing that didn't live up to the taste it had on the first day was the beef kofte. The first day it was basically a melt in your mouth steak, and the next not quite as tender. Service was friendly, I was taking the food to go, but they still offered me cold or hot water while I waited. This version is done in a slightly different way, the Kofte was packed with flavor, there's some Smokiness to it, the Spices really came through, and it's shaped into Medallions or Mignon's. The rice is prepared kinda differently than similiar Shops out there as well, it was cooked almost perfectly and fragrant. Hella good food. I ordered Dolma, chicken shish, rice, and kunefe. Dolma I had never had before, it's not for me but I think of you are accustomed to the grape leaves you will like it. They were very moist. They had a strong olive flavor that personally wasn't for me. I had meant to order the just chicken gyro and accidentally got just chicken shish but I'm not even mad, it tastes so good. Especially with their tzatziki and hot sauce. Super juicy and has that great grilled taste. Rice is bomb, steamed and has a lot of flavor. Kunefe- this was my first time trying it and I think I'm going to get addicted. I stopped in today at noon for takeout. There was one other person in front of me but otherwise the restaurant had no patrons at the time. I ordered the gyro (beef/lamb) with fries. It was a sizable order with plenty of meat and fries but unfortunately the taste was lacking. As noted, there was plenty of meat but it lacked flavor and none of it had crisp edges. I'm thinking that it was yesterday's left overs that was feebly heated up. It was dry and there wasn't enough sauce to help it. Definitely needed a drink to finish the meal. The fries were cooked well and there was an attempt to sprinkle seasoning on it but it wasn't sprinkles well nor was it very tasty. So, blah! Perhaps it was just an odd day for them. We got there at around 8:15pm and ordered food. The food I'll give a 6 rating. The place is nice and clean. I would've definitely returned to try some other stuff but the reason we are not going to is because, the girl upfront came up to us to give us a heads up at 8:50pm that they were closing at 9pm. Now, I understand if someone comes in right before 9pm and want to dine in but if you're already in and finishing up your food, it's kind of unpleasant and rude for the staff to tell you basically, hurry up because we're closing. If it was Costco and you're told it's closing time, I understand that, not a dine in place. Hopefully the management look into this feed back. read more

I love a place where you pay upfront, no need to flag down anyone and wait around. You eat and you leave. Plenty of parking in the plaza and a few tables and chairs outside. The dolmas were delicious! The beef and lamb wrap was great, however after having a bite of my partner's chicken plate, I regretted not having that, the chicken was super soft and flavorful, clearly the MVP. My family loves this spot and we try to visit at least once a week, sometimes more. Favorite items include the Royal platter that gives you all the meats to sample. Kids have their favorites, like the gyro or chicken wraps, the kids koftay platter and the gyro plate. Drink is always a Ayran which we dilute amongst the family. They like to top it off with rose lokum. Overall a family friendly place run by a family with great service and food. Bring back the original chicken gyro recipe!!!! When I first saw this restaurant open up, I wanted to try it and then waited about two years to do so. Hee. I was also rather confused because the older gentleman and lady that worked there spoke a different language and then the younger attendant/cashier ringing us up, spoke English, and then spoke to the older Gentleman and Ladie in a different language, as if reeling the message to them and asking for approval. I appreciate the English and I'm glad he could understand what we were saying, but we thought we were ordering two gyros and not two wraps. Lol either way we got delicious tasting food and the euros were very thin in bread which was helpful since I actually have a gluten allergy but was doing a cheat meal. 3.5 stars. We're not Mediterranean food experts but have enjoyed many meals at Chelokababi, Dish Dash, Opa!, Orens, Shawarmaji (Oakland) and even Madina Market (hidden gem in Cambrian Park, btw). Parking is accessible, order with the cashier and find a table. We ordered the Combo Appetizer, Lamb & Beef Gyros plate, Lamb Shish kebab plate and Kunefe for dessert. The first round of waters, utensils and food are delivered to your table, so nice. The Combo Appetizer was good and served with store-bought pita, falafel, hummus, dolmas, sautéed eggplant, haydari & baba ganoush. We asked for extra pita which they generously provided. But the plates were disappointing - the lamb & beef gyro meat was dry and almost jerky-like and the lamb shish consisted of 6-7 small pieces of lamb, although they were good. One scoop of rice, one small side salad, no follow ups - "How's your meal going?" "May I refill your water?" Usually, at other Mediterranean restaurants, our kids can share a plate. Not here, so we ordered an additional order of lamb shish, another serving of small pieces, maybe a tad overcooked this time. We got the feeling they were balancing their costs with portion size. The kunefe pales in comparison to Dish Dash's version. Especially in today's economy, value is important in our daily dining decisions. But we don't mind paying more for better quality, portions, service. Royal fell short of our expectations, maybe that's on us. For $98 including 18% tip and leaving unsatisfied, perhaps there are better options available. read more
