I am ultimately happy with Nick's. We ended up waiting much longer than we expected and were told for our order. But I will say it was worth the wait. We do love the door we ordered and it fits and is made well. We haven't opened the garage door boxes yet but believe they will be good. Our beautiful front door was damaged by the Insulation workers and we needed a repair kit. I called and sent pictures of the damage and I was promp sent a kit to help fix the problem. As with most reviews you mainly see the bad but our experience was just the opposite. We were searching for a replacement entry door (36 in and 2 sidelights)and getting insane pricing for fiberglass and wood until we found Nick's. We actually went to the showroom and were given a tour of the facility which was amazing. The price of a solid mahogany door from here beat any price from anyone else.I spoke with Jeff,John,Lou and Ashley during our ordering process and was informed it would be 6/8 weeks and it was completed in about 6. I'm going to tell you this door is like a piece of furniture or even art. The fit and finish is amazing and solid as a rock. Definitely get the factory finish and moldings it's worth it. read more

Unique functionality and captivating designs, but QC is significantly lacking. Our door was delivered with incomplete and off-center drilling for handle hardware. By the time installer got to hardware the door system was uncrated and installed. Nick's response was that the door should have been inspected prior to un-crating. How to inspect milling until actually installing hardware? A discount was given for the error after much back and forth. Would have preferred to have the door milled correctly, honestly. A few months after install the seals broke in two panes of beveled glass allowing water vapor inside. I had to purchase new sealed units for a local wood worker to install. It was winter so glass was not unpacked until warmer weather. Installer came last week to install the glass and discovered one pane had a scratch across the entire surface. Emailed Nick's for resolution - to date no response. If you do purchase a product from Nick's double and triple check their quality control. My experience is two for two bad. read more

I would t recommend this company. I purchased a rather expensive door and accompanying "smart lock set" for this door. the door was beautifully crafted and as described. However after installing the door itself and then installing the lock set , it was discovered that the lock was missing the inner knob which locks/unlocks the door from the inside. rendering the door only able to be locked from outside the house. Not only is this an inconvenience but it's also a safety issue as we could not egress the house from the inside through this entryway should a fire happen. Over 6 months have gone by since I called and spoke to the person who sold me the door and at first she seemed to disbelieve my claim that the lock set was missing any parts. I guess after coming to the realization that perhaps it was a possibility, next she said it would take awhile to get the missing part since it had to come from Germany. that was 6 months ago! three months ago when I yet again asked if the part had arrived from overseas , the matter was referred to a "operations manager" who informed me that the company sent the wrong part . It's 3 months later despite sending emails with photos of my door and the missing pieces based upon the installation instructions as well as the actual door, He too was unable to provide the missing part and I am still not closer to getting the simple knob needed to make my $6000 entryway door functional. Despite making nice products, I'd stay away from this company for the simple fact that there is little to no service after the sale should you have any type of issues. From reading the other comments I see that my situation isn't uncommon in terms of customer service resolving problems. Also they are not a member of the Better Business Bureau which is rather odd and no mediation would be available to a buyer through the BBB. I found this company thru a google search because I needed to order bi-fold doors for two closets in our guest apartment. After being hung up on, I know certainly that Customer service is not this companies priority. I wish i would had never called them... The customer service rep i spoke to was named Cindy and this is how she greeted me: Cindy: "Hi, before i spend 45 min on the phone with you, i need to know if you can even afford our service. I'm building a large cabin and ordered a castle style door from Nick's Building Supply. Paid over $6,800 for the door. After several days of not receiving shipping information and five unreturned phone calls I was finally told that they couldn't find my door. They had the exact same door on clearance and were willing to sell it to me but only if I paid an additional $1,500 on top of what I had already paid. I said I wanted the door that I had ordered or for them to provide another similar door for the same price they refused. When I advised I would file a complaint the salesperson laughed and said go ahead. My money was refunded however I did not get the door I paid for and will have to go with another company delaying my build substantially. This has to be the worse customer service of any company Ive conducted business with in many years. I paid for an order in full and management told me the product was in stock and ready to ship, after waiting for weeks, now Im told there are additional fees for the hardware, I paid what was requested of me, this could have been told to me during the many email communications asking when I would receive the doors. The manager Whitney is rude and want allow the customer to articulate the problem with regarding the order. This is why competition is good.. be smart and give your business to someone else. John in shipping is the only person that helped with this order to ensured is was correct and would be shipped. Management could learn something from John.. how to provide outstanding customer service, because Whitney "the manager" knows nothing about how to treat and maintain a customer. I wish I had come on here instead of reviews on their website. Ordered 3 Mahogany doors and realized when my guy was installing them there were no casings and frame was a different color. So had to order them, they came in completely different color to the door also. So now frame and door don't match. Haven't bothered calling as when I had to call about casings Liz was extremely rude. Received our door in at the end of 2014. Last winter I noticed a few panels had shifted and the door swelled making it difficult to close. I contacted Nicks Building to ask for their guidance on what I needed to do and was asked "Did you seal it when you received it?" My answer was no because there was no mention of sealing in any of my paperwork. I was able to shut the door closed with cardboard shims between the two doors. After leaving it that way for a few days the door shifted back into position and was easy to close. It's remained that way. The door is somewhat faded and now that's it's hot and dry in the Northwest I plan on hiring a contractor to re-stain it and seal it or maybe I'll do it myself. I chatted with customer service again today only to be told how wrong I was and that my documentation had the seal requirement written all over it. When I pulled out all the documentation (mainly emails) I found there was not one word about sealing it upon receiving it. Wanting to point out the lack of verbiage on my paperwork I called and talked to customer service. The conversation was completely one sided. It was repeated the paperwork was covered with the seal requirement and everyone knows a wood door needs to be sealed. Customer service even declared it was even on their website. Well their website says: "We only use Eco Friendly, low VOC, transparent acrylic water-based penetrating wood Stains and Sanding Sealers. Then a Non-Yellowing, Water Resistant, Crystal Clear Top-Coat Finish with UV Absorbers that provides a Durable Mar-Resistant coating with Excellent Adhesion and Easy Touch-up Capabilities." This reads to me that they do seal it, but obviously they don't if you talk to them directly and I'll be the first to admit I'm obviously not everyone because had no clue I needed to seal it. Maybe since most of us only purchase a high end door once in our lives customer service doesn't need to be top of the line. I don't know... I wasn't trying to get anything out of Nick's, just voicing my negative experience. With all that said we love the door! If you do purchase one educate yourself on what needs to be done to keep it looking like new because Nick's won't. Had it not been for this negative experience I would have easily given Nick's Building a 5-star review. read more

But after working through the order, being talked down to throughout most of the process which made us giggle at the audacity, we found that the employees neither understand nor are willing to learn about shipping when the destination is not continental US or Canada. This woman, Whitney, hung up on us after yelling at us. I hope this company offers mental health insurance. Whitney is not okay. Followed up with the operations manager, Brandon, who already had canceled our order for "threatening to sue". We, luckily, had not paid yet and had no reason to sue. I'd give zero stars if possible. I heard from many people that Nick's was great. Definitely not the experience we had. Shortly after the door was installed, a blemish appeared at eye level. The clear coat bubbled and pealed. Nick's admitted it was a defect, that some likely touched the door between the staining and clear coat application. Numerous phone calls, emails, broken promises followed. It was expected that I would work with their driver to remove the door, install a temporary door, and then redo the process several weeks later. I asked if Nick's would cover any damage and then crickets. Less than a year later, the weather stripping is peeling away and the door is scratching the threshold. So if you're ok paying premium price for a door that may be defective from a company that won't stand by its product, then Nick's is for you. read more

I heard one excuse after another. They stopped taking my calls so I retained an attorney in August, 2023 Three days after retaining the lawyer, I was informed that the door was ready for delivery. With the many choices of woods, glass, styles and finishes. They matched my color I brought in perfectly. The process was simple and of course finding the right person to install the door was crucial as the measurements had to be dead on. After a month or so I received my new door delivered by Nick's and installed by V & V Construction from Chicago. Perhaps their doors are very nice but I believe in doing business with people who are polite and profession. I paid close to $5000 for a new front door. You can see upon installation that the door is not perfectly rectangular. This wouldn't have been obvious upon delivery. First they claimed it was a faulty install, but when I showed them the picture there was no arguing that point. (Not to mention, I had 3 separate contractors confirm the door was defective.) Nick's Building was then not only rude, but the best they could do is offer to send me a rubber strip and a piece of fuzzy pom-pom to close the gap. I told them that was unacceptable and they pretty much said there was nothing more they could do. Thanks, Nick's Building, for allowing me to pay you $5000 for a door that has a gap so large the sunlight peaks through. A rubber strip and a fuzzy pom-pom is really the best you can do? I paid over $4000 for my front door and when I received it it still had silicone smeared all over the glass and the craftsmanship was terrible the weatherstripping in between the glass failed and is falling off causing drafts. All within less than two years. Stay away from this company! When I called and asked for them to fix it they told me I would have to fix it myself but they were tell me how. I try to go out of my way to support independent and American businesses. Not this one, never! I started out apologizing right away by saying that I may not sound like I know exactly what I want on the phone but the website is a bit hard to decipher. I was cut off by the young man who answered the phone. He said that the company wants you to call in person because they want to make sure you order the right product. Fair point. I thought that he sounded patronizing and curt but maybe I'm just a rookie and he's had a hard day. As we discussed the particular door in details the young man sounded increasingly irritated. I could feel him seething at the end of the line. When I asked him to repeat the two choices of the hinges I could hear the annoyance building up in his voice. When we finished with all the options I asked if I could get a price quote he belittled me by saying that I can't get it until he knows the shipping address (meaning my location). I finally couldn't take it anymore and had to tell him that this is terrible customer service, that I could sense his annoyance from the very beginning, that this is no way to treat a customer, and that he really needs to change. I do not speak in an unintelligible accent. I don't speak English with bad grammar. I was calm and polite. I didn't act like I knew what I was doing. I simply was asking for help and a quote. But the person who answered the phone for this business managed to make me angry at the end of the conversation. How is this possible in this day and age where there's so much competition and everything is just a click away? Your business is just going to wither away if you keep treating potential customers in this nasty way. This is elementary! Be kind! Be nice!! read more

I wish it would allow me to rate this company less than one star. and here is why: On July 26, 2017 I ordered 33 pre-hung pre-finished interior doors to be delivered in 8-10 weeks for my new home. After 8 weeks I called for the status which no one could give me. Finally someone told me it would be an additional 6-8 weeks because their facility was still not up after the fire in January 2017 (6 months prior to my order.) At the time of completing my order and paying, no one from Nicks advised me that their facility was not up and running. They lied to me when taking the order telling me the paperwork says 8-10 weeks but it will be less than that. They took an order they knew they could not fulfill in a timely manner. When the doors arrived in November they were not pre-hung or knocked down as they state. The door slabs were separate from packages of precut molding. The mounding were improperly cut/ machined and were too small for every door. Nicks also failed to provide hinges for all doors. When I called Nicks they failed to address the issues. They lied and provided me with a delivery window which they knew they could not meet because their facility was not yet up and running. The extra delay has held up my project causing me additional costs and has caused me to be unable to be in the home for the holidays. I have paid over $18,000 for doors that were not delivered when promised and are not built as promised. I have had to purchase additional materials and pay additional labor to build new frames. John T at their office is rude, ignorant and disrespectful. The only thing worse than their products is their customer service. Stay far away from this company. read more

Nick's Building Supply offered an interior Dutch door. We looked everywhere local and no one makes an interior Dutch door. The ones that did were way more expensive the Nick's Building Supply. The quality of the door is excellent. They shipped it a cross the United States to us here in California. This shipping container was well-built and very secure for the door. This door was exactly what my wife and I were looking for for an interior Dutch door. At points we were thinking that we had to use an exterior Dutch door for our interior door but because of Nickes Building Supply offering an interior Dutch door we didn't have to. This is the third time I have ordered doors from Nicks and will be my last time. Interior doors showed up without hinges.....the crate was open on one end so I assume they fell out. I sent them photos of the crate and I called Nicks and they said they would send out new sets (3) but never showed up. I even offered to pay for new sets. I followed up for weeks afterward and they always said they would ship out but they never showed up. Terrible service when you say you are going to do something and don't follow up. Repeat business obviously not a concern for this company. Only a matter of time before they are out of business with these practices. read more

Communication is almost non existent once you place your order. If you do call don't expect a return call or answer if you email them. The door itself actually is good and delivery was good too - with one MAJOR problem being the tempered glass labels. They are horrendous on the glass in the door - two prominent tempered glass stickers on each window (all six windows in my case) on the inside and outside of each pane - 12 total the size of a butterfly and non removable. Called and spoke to a lady at Nicks and also emailed the salesman we dealt with named John to inquire about getting replacement glass and still haven't gotten a response back. Thankfully my husband is a contractor, we had new glass fabricated and changed the glass in the door ourselves. I wouldn't recommend this company - the money you save isn't worth the headache. One other note - We assumed the door was made in the U.S. but our door was stamped Bolivia which isn't a problem but their website made me think their doors are made in the U.S. read more

Beautiful product, poor customer service. Reading through the other reviews I wish that we had the same experience as some of the others since their doors are so beautiful. Unfortunately for us we were misinformed throughout the entire process. We started by calling and asking specific questions about additional charges since we had custom sized jambs; quoted $350.00 over the phone, which turned into $400.00 in store (per door). They wouldn't honor the price we were given. Next, good thing I did the legwork and noted everything I found on their website because once we got there I was told they did not have such a door on their website for that price, and tried charging me $900.00 additional dollars, and explained that they have a number of other websites that they didn't use anymore, and that they couldn't honor those sites prices. I calmly had him open their actual functioning website, and navigated him to the page with the door at the price I had. He explained that it was an old price and not updated on their end, but in the long-run honored his advertised price. During our three hour visit to the sales room (he kept leaving the front to answer the phone, talk to co-workers, having to fix mistakes on the paperwork) we were provided with, what I thought was valuable information, production estimates, pick-up details, etc. However, in the time leading up to our doors being completed somehow all of the information that their staff member provided us with was either incorrect, missing an essential detail, or he was entirely dishonest about. Light at the end of the tunnel....!!!...got the call that our doors are ready for pick-up! Spoke to soon...I wanted to make sure and confirm the information I received about the pick-up process before showing up there; to find out that if we wanted our very expensive, very custom doors wrapped/crated that it was $100.00 per door. I very politely explained what we were told that they came that way, and to my surprise the women on the other end started yelling at me. My response during her charade: "excuse me, (pause), why are you yelling at me?" She denied it. I thanked her and said good-bye. Since this review is quite lengthy I skipped a number of other incidents (mistakes they made on their end). We always try and support independent businesses first, even if it costs a little extra, but customer service, and more so respect for others is an essential element in all business; and for those reasons alone I would NEVER recommend Nick's to ANYONE!!!! read more

I ordered my front door from them it is beautiful, my complaint is I it took almost 4 months to get delivered. Was told the stain shop had problems. I chose to order some interior doors and was told 2-3 weeks - did not want them stained that was 2 months ago. They do good work but VERY SLOW and can be short on phone called in to question why it was taking so long and they said I could cancel my order. read more

I am a high end Custom home builder for I've 20 years, and have used Nicks doors for most of this time. I Send my customers online to select their doors. The one purchased this time is predominantly glass panes. When it arrived there was a damaged piece of exterior trim . I've been waiting almost 6 months for the replacement trim, but that's nothing compared to the poor quality of the door itself. Every pane of glass has a broken seal, therefore glass is all fogged up. After countless emails and phone calls best the could do is tell me they would send parts for me to replace each pane. Really? It would take days and in no way will match the existing stain when finished. This is million dollar+ home and is the entry door. I've purchased and referred countless doors from Nicks and can't get over how bad the service is when they deliver something so bad. No reason they shouldn't send a full replacement. Will not be using them or referring them again. There are plenty of Door companies that I am sure will stand behind their product, but clearly Nicksbuilding.com doesn't. read more

My experience with Nick's has been great. The quality of the door system is great, and the pricing was very fair. Please note, you will have to bore out the holes for a handle set, but that can easily be taken care of by a good locksmith. The ordering process was easy, as was payment. Highly DO NOT recommend this business. 5K new wood exterior door has water intrusion after the very first rain. The installer confirms the product is defective, improperly waterproofed and sealed. Leaks by the glass panels, leaks by the wood panels. No customer service gesture/solution offered of any kind, claims the insufficient overhang versus the apparent inferior product. No way to contact the management instead being told by customer service they will hang up on me if I were to talk to them anyways. Run arounds for 2 weeks to be able to address this with anyone. I ordered a knotty adler door from Nicks. The door came on time, however, on the top of the trim there was a large burnt out knot. Right on the inner edge of the trim and the actual door, thus breaking the seam and looking very unaesthetic, not to mention that if I need to sand this door: I will probably cut my hand when it slips in the hole. I sent them lots of pictures that clearly showed this. Contacted Customer Service and I was promptly told that the hole on the trim is not viewed by the company as an issue. They are supposedly sending putty and stain so I can attempt on fixing the hole on the trim, but one thing for sure: they lost my business and now I have a door that could have been so beautiful, but now I have a door that has a hole in the trim..... If you can't personally pick the door in their warehouse: I would be very weary ordering from them read more
