I've been to Nick before and it's never a disappointment. I must say they make a great Side Car... it is very well crafted. I came here for a small family dinner for my birthday. I received a birthday card from the staff which was super nice. Staff was very attentive and helpful. Food is good. I ordered the fried chicken with mashed potatoes and corn and didn't realize they forgot the biscuits (which are delish) until I was leaving. That would be my only downside. The butter cake is a MUST have. It is by far the BEST!!! The Manhattan Beach location is a little more laid back and reserved compared to the Long Beach location so that and maybe distance could be a factor in decided which location. Still one of my favorite places to dine at. I had previously only been here for work lunches, so we decided to have a dinner double date. The menu is actually simple and the quality of the food is excellent. The service from our server was friendly and professional. My friends and my date enjoyed our meal. I ordered the shrimp taquitos which were beautifully presented and scrumptious, great for sharing. I ordered a burger which is unusual for me, since I rarely order something so pedestrian in a nicer place but this was newer on the menu. It was really tasty and so was the kale salad. I saw others enjoying the very popular buttermilk fried chicken which no doubt would have been mad delicious. I tried a bite of the tender marinated chicken from my friend's chicken tacos. So delish! My friend also enjoyed his Prime Rib Dip with seasoned fries. My date ordered the Petit Bistro which include a smaller cut of Filet Mignon with spicy lentil soup and kale salad which was just the right quantity. Of course, we shared the famous Buttercake topped with ice cream. It could use a little more fruit compote but the crunchy sugar crust is unique and definitely worth saving room for. The vibe and ambiance here was hopping even mid-week. The bar was full and the crowd lively. Definitely will be back for dinner again and want to try breakfast here too. read more

nick's is one of my family's favorites!! they have great food, atmosphere, and service! not to mention the best butter cake in the whole entire world. this dinner i ordered the la hacienda taco platter, which is so cute and fun to make as well as tasty! the baby back pork ribs, which is a huge portion but a little dry/needs some more sauce but i love the little side salad it comes with. the pan seared scottish salmon which is a very quality dish. plus the bread roll appetizer which comes with the best butter imported from france i think! I had a forgettable steak salad and a glass of wine. It was loud inside the restaurant, though not particularly crowded. It was not worth the price. Note that you need to be careful with the parking meters across the street. We tried to put 2 hours on the meter and left thinking we were fine. We came out to flashing red lights on the meter. Came here for lunch and was so amazing!! Food: ordered the lunch special that came with a mini filet mignon, butternut squash soup and salad. About $22 and I'm not sure if they change the menu daily but this is so worth! Service: nice, attentive and friendly waiter. Went to Nick's for my and my honey's 3rd anniversary. I had been scoping this place out for a while so I was excited to finally make it! Had an excellent server. Don't recall her name, but she was amazing. I love that you can bring your own wine with complimentary corkage on the first bottle! Ambience was good, but not great out on the patio. There's other establishments on that promenade, and there were SO MANY KIDS running around out there, literally right out side of the patio. It was super loud and cheapened the atmosphere for a while. Once they left (after about 30 minutes in to our reservation) it gained more romantic vibes. Probably would've been better had we sat inside. We started with Shrimp taquitos. Tasty but not worth $17. Nice to try but won't be getting those again. I had Buttermilk Fried Chicken. IT WAS DELIGHTFULLY DELICIOUS! My only issue was that my bite was tender (dental work), so I didn't want the corn on the cob. I asked if I could sub it for a softer vegetable, but the server told me that the biscuit and the corn come as a pair, so if I removed the corn I'd lose the biscuit. My only option was to swap the corn for a second biscuit, which I let my honey eat, and purchase a different vegetable. That really sucked. I did it, though, and got the kale, which was incredible! My honey got the Sea Bass. I had a taste it was perfect. He loved it, and he is hard to get rave reviews from LOL. We tried the famous butter cake, and boy I'll tell ya - there's a reason it's famous! All I can say is get it! lol We did see two different tables get the lemon cake, and it's a HUMONGOUS slice! Enough for 3 people to share and be satisfied. Finally, we received hot towels at the end for our hands. I LOVE THAT! They gave us a signed card for our anniversary, which was very nice! All in all my experience was amazing and I can't wait to return. Unfortunately, I likely won't get the chicken dish again because I have trouble with corn on the cob, and I don't want to have to spend $6 or $7 to replace it every time. read more

We came here for my friends birthday lunch and wow wow wow everything was just excellent! I took a pic of everyone's food and Drinks and I took bites of many of the items, for ONCE there's not ONE thing I have a comment about or an idea or a change lol. We sat inside but we were by the large open doors so we could hear the live music outside on Sunday afternoon. I wish I got our waiter's name bc he too was on point! I had the blackened mahi on a lettuce wrap with kale salad and droooool to all of that. I drank the salty pear and watermelon jalapeño margarita, of course sipped others too lol. I missed out on tasting the Thai salad my friend ate and I think I will get that next time. The shrimp taquitos and asparagus fries yes yes! My friend had the taquitos for her entree as well. This is definitely a place I can go back to and try everything on the menu no doubt and know I will enjoy and leave happy! After going on venue tours around the city, we decided to grab brunch at Nick's. The wait was not that long and they were seating inside and outside on the patio. Their windows open all the way up, so it was similar to sitting outside if you end up sitting near the windows inside. The staff were very nice and friendly and they got us seated within a couple of minutes. We had decided on what to order, but unfortunately, lunch was not available just yet. Our server offered to take our orders a little later so we can get the lunch menu while we also ordered the chicken and waffles from the breakfast menu and a tuna tartare to start with. When the time came, I ordered the Pan Seared Chilean Sea Bass, my brother ordered the Prime Center Cut Filet, and his girlfriend got the SF Cioppino. Since I don't eat shellfish, I didn't try the Cioppino, but I heard it was really good and something that you'd come back for. For the other entree's that I did try, the Fried Chicken and Waffles are amazing. The Waffles are crispy but very moist and soft on the inside. It was very interesting texture, but I was a huge fan. The chicken was seasoned very well and we didn't really need anything for the chicke and waffles. We opted not to get the gravy and it was still amazing. The tuna tartare was pretty good. We couldn't taste the wasabi though. The seabass was cooked perfectly. It was moist and seasoned well. It came with spinach with almonds and mashed potatoes. I was not a fan of the potateos because of the "whipped" texture. It reminded me of boxed mashed potatoes. The Fillet mignon was also pretty good. Nicely cooked and seasoned well. It also came with the same kind of potatoes, so I mostly enjoyed the proteins. We also ordered their warm butter cake for dessert. It was crunchy from the sugar crust and we definitely enjoyed the berry compote and wished there was a bit more of it. Overall, a great spot for brunch or lunch. Ok, the french onion soup is the best you will ever have in your life! The menu is quite small since the pandemic, but the buttermilk chicken and biscuits is my go-to here as far as main courses go. Not too pricey, and I've never had a bad experience service-wise here. Friendly staff and good ambiance. My only complaint is the parking situation. Being right by the beach, you will likely end up parking in a lot somewhere down the street or across the street but you really just have to be having a lucky day because spots are hard to come by. read more

I really wanted to like this place more. I got a salad with salmon and a side of fries, and a salad with no meat to go. I got club soda from the gun and with tip my bill was $60. The food was definitely tasty but not worth that price tag. My server was nice but pretty slow considering the type and amount of food I got. I was also super thirsty waiting for a refill on my $5(!!) soda water. I came home and ate more because I was still hungry. Not how I like a meal out to end! My husband's to go salad was also not substantial and he ended up needing to eat more after, too. All of this said, the place was quite busy for a random Wednesday night and people seemed to really be enjoying themselves and the food. I came on a Saturday morning for brunch with a party of two and also a dog. They are extremely dog-friendly so bring all your four legged friends! They also gave our dog a dog bowl so he can drink water. The service here was amazing and were super friendly and accommodating. I ordered the short ribs Benedict and my girlfriend got the fried chicken & waffle. I enjoyed all the different flavors of the Benedict, from the short ribs to the runniness of the egg. The biscuit was a little soggy but it was because of all the juices from the short ribs so it made it a tastier. There was a pretty good amount of flavor on the hash browns which is more than I can say for other brunch places that offer hash browns. This Benedict is relatively simple compared to other places that pile on the Benedict and takes away from the main flavors. I prefer it this way so I enjoyed it. The fried chicken & waffle did not impress me the way I was hoping it would for the price ($18). The fried chicken tasted more like chicken tenders and was not crispy at all. In fact, the waffle was crispier which was the saving grace of this dish. It was super light and fluffy. Came here on Easter Sunday while enjoying a beautiful easter beach day. I called the establishment while walking up the street to verify whether or not there was a wait. The hostess said: give me a sec let me ask. She returned with the answer that it would be about a 20 minute wait. We walked in about 5 minutes later and we were immediately seated! This was awesome and our server was super sweet and did everything with a smile on her face. We ordered a bloody Mary and the shrimp taquitos. Bloody Mary had this beautifully golden fried olive which was very unique. The shrimp taquitos came in an order of 5. She says "I can make it 6 for you guys to make it even". We of course agreed and were both shocked at how cool she was. The taquitos were good. Next up, fries mediocre and extremely pricing @ 6 dollars for a handful At most. Wish this pricing was listed... Baby back ribs were not good. Dry, very little meat. Seafood Enchiladas were good 4/5. But what threw off my experience was 1) the fact that water is never refilled for you... 2) we were charged for this extra taquito that she "threw in" 3) pricing is not as transparent on the menu It was easter, we didn't even waste our breath but there you have it. Came here for a team lunch -- we didn't make RSVPs (our bad) so it took a while for the hostess to figure out where to place us as the larger tables that were empty were marked as "reserved". We eventually had to sit in two separate tables (they couldn't group them together because they were on two different waiter/waitresses tables). Get the BISTRO PLATE (petite filet mignon, topped w/ steak butter served on garlic toast, bistro salad and a cup of today's soup *vegetable minestrone if I remember correctly is what I had*). LOVED THIS. My table shared two orders of the ASPARAGUS FRIES, one order of the OLD SCHOOL WALNUT BROWNIE and one order of the WARM BUTTER CAKE (highly recommend this one for dessert -- get it even if you're full b/c one taste of this and you'll be addicted). I also had a DOUBLE ESPRESSO which came in this really cute looking charcoal grey cup and saucer and on the saucer was a small rock candy garnish. Minus 1 star b/c we sat outside on a wet, rainy, windy day and I sat right by the dark black drapes -- the chain on the bottom end touching the cement ground wasn't heavy enough for the wind.
