My family and I enjoyed our experience at SLAY Italian Kitchen, so we decided to try out their sister restaurant SLAY Steak + Fish House. The restaurant has a classy vibe, although we did feel that the tables were a bit too close together. We had a reservation for 6:00pm on a Sunday, and it wasn't too crowded. By the time we left the restaurant, it was completely packed! For appetizers, we got the Clams Casino and the Fried Calamari. The Clams Casino comes with five baked clams with shallots, bacon, garlic, and panko. These were pretty good! We also enjoyed the Fried Calamari that came with fried pepperoncini, fried lemon slices, and a lemon aioli. For my entree, I had the Panko Crusted Filet of Sole. It was a pretty large piece that came with sauteed veggies (some colorful broccoli and cauliflower florets) and a citrus-wine sauce. I would get this again! They had a few different specials for the night that I tried a couple bite of. One was a fish dish with spinach and rice that was pretty good. My best friend took me here for my birthday this year. We had a good time thanks to alcohol. When we first arrived, we noticed how packed the place was as well as how close the tables were to each other. You can literally hear the conversations on both sides. Weren't too big of fans of the proximity. Most of my past steakhouse experiences allow for more privacy. We started with the Warm Spinach Salad, which I wouldn't recommend. It was very basic and lacking any flavor profile whatsoever. Probably our least favorite dish of the evening. Ordered a round of Onion Rings because they sounded so delicious. Unfortunately our waiter tripped and dropped quite a few of the rings on the table. We didn't say anything or ask for it to be changed because he was a good waiter - we weren't looking to get anyone into trouble either. We split a Filet Mignon which came with a divine baked potato and some well seasoned green beans. This dish was very well done and definitely the highlight of the evening. We wrapped with a nice Caramel Creme Brûlée. Sadly they dropped the ball on the bday aspect. The waiter apologized at the end as he recognized that he forgot. Spent $200+ per person. The place felt like a hot steam room. Barely any A/C on a hot humid summer night. Everyone was uncomfortable (I was putting ice on my wrists to cool down). Ribeye was small portion and easily 50% of it was pure fat for $80. To add insult to injury it was served cold and had to be reheated even though the plate was piping hot. Rest of food was mediocre (steak bites (salty and overcooked), beet salad (meh), squash blossoms (very oily), chicken Parmesan (sloppy dish with bland pasta). A glass of Daou is going for way more than what I'd pay for a bottle of it at Gelsons. Would I go back for dinner? Prob not. Only saving grace was our server. She was a class act and a true gem. My partner took me to Slay on 2/14/2024 for Valentine's Day. The food was amazing, and we truly enjoyed the atmosphere--it was a great experience up until the very end of the evening. After we paid and were on our way out, one of the waiters stopped us and stated that we had not paid for our meal. This was extremely embarrassing, especially with so many people around watching. The situation made us feel uncomfortable and racially profiled, as we are African American. My partner emailed the restaurant the following day to address the incident, but we never received a response, which was very disappointing. This restaurant was on my list to try and I finally tried it and it was lovely. They had amazing unique entrees, drinks, and desserts. The service was remarkable. Paulo, our waiter was so kind, personable, funny, accommodating, and caring, and made sure our first time was enjoyable. Great atmosphere with nice modern decor. We had the warm salad, Caesar salad, butter rolls, stuffed pork chop, chicken Parmesan, banana nut bread with peaches, and several cocktail drinks. Their coffee martini was delicious. The manager was very nice too. They serve a twisted baked potato but I don't like cheese so she had the cooks make my baked potato normal without the other ingredients. The bartender was friendly and made sure our drinks were delightful. Note: Around the corner from the restaurant is the Manhattan Pier and beach. Indoor and outdoor seating. They are only open for four hours daily (5pm-9pm) and have several different sister restaurants within walking distance from each other. Small restaurant in Manhattan Beach. Food was good but didn't blow me away. Oysters were $54 per dozen which is extremely high. They were fresh but two of mine still had bits of shell inside. For $4.50 per oyster, you'd expect they'd be expertly shucked. All the steaks say they come with potato and vegetables but the flat iron was in the section with all the steaks and it only came with fries. Maybe they should add a note on the menu saying "with the exception of the flat iron which comes with fries only". For a flat iron, the steak was good. The fries were lukewarm and not fresh though. If the fries were fresh and hot, it would've been a good meal. The ribeye was also very good but significantly more expensive. Service was friendly but unfortunately very slow, it felt like we were forgotten a few times (waiting a very long time for our apps, then our food, and then for them to take our credit card). The menu is very pricy and the ambiance and service don't quite meet the price point. Essentially, I felt like the $4.50 oysters were probably only worth $3, the $47 flat iron was only worth $39, and the $79 ribeye was only worth $60 based on the ambiance and service level of the restaurant. read more

There is no parking other than on the street where Meter Maids patrol as if they worked at The Shoe at Pelican Bay. If you find a spot that doesn't require a Bird or an Uber then buy a lottery ticket because you're on a roll. Once you secure your sled, make your way to Slay. It's a handsome black box in the middle of the Manhattan melee. Go inside, it's dark, serene, and calm, except for the buzzin' wait staff. The space is small with an 8 seat Bar anchoring the entrance. An overhead Flat Screen dominates the room. Hey, it's Manhattan Beach. Conversation? Only during commercials. A partition separates the Sports Bar front from the fine dining back dimly lit for the half lit diners. Think of this place as a civilized MB Post without Cheddar Cheese Biscuits. Who goes there? Locals who don't care about Meter Maids and can easily afford a sitter on a Wednesday. The Staff: Manned by relaxed Manhattanites. No complaints on this side of the experience. The Bar Program: The Bar is full, and fills up fast with only 8 seats. If you choose a Bar table they are barely large enough to hold two Parker House Rolls. Prepare to juggle. In the meantime, Cocktails, Beer and Wine await. My Maple Spice Sour had all three tastes playing nice together. Bullet Bourbon, Amaretto, Real Maple Syrup and Egg Whites which I forgot to ask the server to hold. Egg whites bring little to the drink party and then what do they do with the Yolks? No matter, as a riff on a Whiskey Sour it was a deep well done well. The Roederer Redemption had Empress Gin, Lemon Juice, Blueberry Champagne Syrup, and Roederer Champagne. This drink was so memorable, I can't remember drinking it but as I write about it, it sounds good and I hope it was. The Food: Parker House Rolls to sop up anything laying around. These warm yeasty little beasties did their job. A Spinach Salad was nicely done too. Peppered Bacon Bits, a healthy sprinkle of Parmesan Cheese, Fried Garlic Chips, Herbed Bread Crumbs and a warm Vinaigrette. You could put all that on a Bust Bunny and this dish would be a dinner winner. A lovely Crab Cake showed up next. Remember that the table is sooo small that dinner comes out one small late at a time. The Crab Cake was just Crab formed into a little cute cake with no filler. Delicious. It was nestled on a bed of Apple slivers, Shaved Fennel, and a dollop of Remoulade. Wonderful, even if you're allergic to crab...get some. If I get back here I'm having mine and yours. The Steak Frites (Flat Iron Steak) was cut into 4 strips the size of Stephan Curry's fingers. The steak was settled on a mound of French Fries with a serious pour of Peppercorn Sauce which turned the whole thing into a Poutine, (read, soggy mess). The menu boasted House Made Ketchup which tasted like it was made in the Heinz House. Ketchup is, after all, just ketchup. Something to dip a fry into because it's expected or scrub out of your shirt if you can. So, skip the limp fries and spear that steak, which despite a mystery chew or two, was actually pretty good. Hide those unchewable wads in the center of the left over Parker House Roll. Finally, a fat Stuffed Pork Chop appeared. It was packed with a mush of Granny Smith Apples, Golden Raisins, a glop of Sourdough Bread and then drizzled with Soy Sauce and Molasses to make sure nothing was unmushed. Yup, there was a lot going on. Once I scraped off the innards and the glazes the chop was not a flop and ate well. Slay has a slew of spots spread around town that all mimic his flagship Park Ave. and IL Garage in Stanton. None of them slay me, but they are all decent in their own way. read more

Their drinks and wine recommendations were perfect for the mouth watering watermelon/heirloom salad and wedge/blue cheese and bacon salads. The ribeye was and 10 out of ten, perfectly grilled and seasoned - the best ribeye I've had this year and the stuffed baked potato and the sweet grilled carrots were so flavorful.
