Three delicious dishes for only $21? Yes please.

I have no idea how we ended up in Hermosa Beach, but we ended up here and came with a whole lot of hunger. This little downtown area had a few different restaurants we were considering, but thanks to my wife wanting to use a washroom right away we ended up coming here. This small, but nice restaurant looks exactly how a place should look near the ocean and had a super friendly employee take our orders as well. For lunch I ended up doing the 3 for $21 deal which is exactly that, a fantastic deal. I ended up choosing the House Fries, the Tempura Fish Tacos, and the 1/2 Grilled Cheese Sandwich. How was it? House Fries- Covered in Grana Padano and Mustard Aioli, these French Fries were super crispy and tasted really, really good. Tempura Fish Tacos- Two tacos that I wish I could transform into 20. The Tempura fish here was absolutely delicious. 1/2 Grilled Cheese Sandwich- A few different cheeses between some sourdough, a simple but fantastic grilled cheese sandwich. Overall, The Hook & Plow was a fantastic place to stop for some lunch and I plan on checking out the other locations now. Between really great service and really great food, this place is a definite must if you find yourself in the Hermosa Beach area.

Amazing eatery up the street from the beach. Service was spot on and i loved my ceviche. The photo doesn't show the entire portion and layer of avocado! Bacon here is thick and delectable. Burgers tasted fantastic. Will make a return to try the happy hour!

First time at Hook & Plow and it was so good! Our server, a tall blonde girl, was super sweet and attentive. We got the pear and arugula salad, poke, and chocolate mousse -- all so flavorful and delicious. It's a little on the pricey side, but for the ambiance, service, and quality of the food, totally worth it.

Second time here won't be returning the scallops on happy hour menu were fishy and way too salty and the flavors were just not right and wasn't good. My sister and I didn't even finish we left most of it . And we LOVE raw scallops. Since they put tajin so I feel like they don't need salt too.... Needs a citrusy/sour sauce not a mango sauce

The restaurant is nice and open; has outdoor and indoor dining. It was very clean and neat. The service was great as well; very friendly and attentive. We came here for happy hour. It was really good. Half off beer and wine. There is also a small food menu for happy hour; just not available on Sundays. The tacos were good, well made with lots of flavor. The chowder fries were so good. I'd go back just for that.

We sat outside for lunch and it took a little while to get menus. Once we ordered, the food came out pretty quickly. Service was friendly. I had the salmon tempura fish tacos and the fries. The fish tacos were small but tasty and I used the garlic aioli dipping sauce on it. The ketchup seemed homemade which was a nice surprise. My husband had the burger and liked it. He did comment that the crispy onions could be improved.

Tasty brunch menu. Had the traditional breakfast with eggs, bacon, hash and sour dough toast. My friend had the salmon salad. I ate my whole plate of food including a taste of my friend's salad. Everything was so good. Eggs yolks were amazing orange , the bacon cooked well and love the hash which they made it so perfect that is not greasy. The sourdough bread was perfectly toasted. Great service and love the outdoor area where you can people watch.

Great dinner spot, especially if you sit on the patio on a nice day. We enjoyed everything we ordered- biscuits, pork chop and sea bass. Everything was well seasoned and prepared perfectly.

While I can't say with certainty what caused it, I won't be returning. Cleanliness was my biggest concern. The shared public restrooms were filthy, and many surfaces throughout the restaurant felt sticky, as if they hadn't been cleaned regularly. That alone made me question the overall sanitation. The fried food tasted like it had been cooked in old oil. The grilled fish was dry, overcooked, and lacked flavor. Service was virtually nonexistent, and the staff seemed uninterested in helping customers. The atmosphere appeared to cater more to drinking than dining. Based on my experience, the food quality, cleanliness, and service all fell well below expectations. I would not return and cannot recommend this restaurant.

There was also a cute pink wall right next to us that was perfect for pictures Service was great, everyone was in a great mood happy and helpful We ordered a bunch of dishes to share: Spicy Whipped Feta -So creamy and delicious! It had a nice kick to it and came with fresh, warm pita. Peruvian Scallop Crudo - My absolute FAVORITE! It came with a pomegranate sauce that was so refreshing and delicious. I seriously could have eaten 20 of these! Spiced Lamb Meatballs - Surprisingly so good! The meatballs were hearty, tender, and had so much flavor. Scallop Skewer -The scallops tasted super fresh and were cooked perfectly with lots of flavor. They were served over a bed of quinoa tabouli, which paired really well with them. Marinated Chicken Skewer - So juicy, flavorful, and delicious! We had both skewers with the mango yogurt amba and spicy herb zhoug sauces. They also gave us a garlic sauce and another sauce that reminded me of tzatziki. I loved being able to try the different sauces with everything! Overall, such a cute spot for a girls' night out! We started with the ceviche in Clamato with pieces of crab and avocado served with a delicious tortilla chips. I absolutely loved the flavor profile and couldn't get enough of the Clamato sauce. Then we moved to the weekend only special sea urchin, which Stephanie's parents personally bring down from Santa Barbara for weekend service. I'm usually indifferent at best to sea urchin, but this was excellent Then we shared the Jonah Crab Fusilli, another winner. I was driving, but hubby ordered a banhattan and it was another winner. They also have some beer and wine options as well as a full bar. Though very full by this point, just couldn't resist the pretzel bread pudding. Definitely suited our sensibilities to be close to the heart of this treasure, plus it can get cold out there! When our friendly and helpful server learned that we'd never been to FwD before, we were both treated a tasty amuse, a Peruvian scallop, one of their specialties. Served chilled, absolute heaven. Simple, fresh, delicious, and very pretty atop its shell. We ordered an appetizer, a different scallop dish, Pan Seared Diver Scallops. (Parsnip-potato puree, brown butter ponzu, capers). So good. Succulent, perfectly cooked and devilishly satisfying with its rich, savory flavor. We enjoyed the one dish that have been on their menu since the beginning, Koshihikari Rice. (short-grain Japanese rice, overnight chicken dashi, shrimp, uni, blue crab, cage-free egg yolk.) Wow. So much happening here, and yet it's a complete package. All the ingredients meld together sumptuously. It akin to Paella, or perhaps to a stuffed Risotto, although the Koshihikari Rice was very much its own dish. The server swerved and mixed the egg yolk on our plate, and we loved it. Our strategy to try a number of dishes and yet still have room for dessert worked. Many great choices, and I doubt we'd be disappointed with anything. However, we had heard from the table next to use that the key-lime pie was must. Happily, they were right. This Key Lime Pie is just sweet and just tart enough. Though I am not Key Lime Pie expert, this one struck me as imaginative with its meringue colony crowding the pie's surface for additional dessert debauchery. There nothing overwhelmingly citrusy about it, and it was light enough to help you feel satisfied and just right. The coffee was good, too. This is a low-key yet lovely dining experience in Manhattan Beach.
