Cute outdoor seating. Greta service. And the food was great. Very healthy and nicely decorated portions for lunch specials.

Amazing eatery up the street from the beach. Service was spot on and i loved my ceviche. The photo doesn't show the entire portion and layer of avocado! Bacon here is thick and delectable. Burgers tasted fantastic. Will make a return to try the happy hour!

Second time here won't be returning the scallops on happy hour menu were fishy and way too salty and the flavors were just not right and wasn't good. My sister and I didn't even finish we left most of it . And we LOVE raw scallops. Since they put tajin so I feel like they don't need salt too.... Needs a citrusy/sour sauce not a mango sauce

First time at Hook & Plow and it was so good! Our server, a tall blonde girl, was super sweet and attentive. We got the pear and arugula salad, poke, and chocolate mousse -- all so flavorful and delicious. It's a little on the pricey side, but for the ambiance, service, and quality of the food, totally worth it.

The restaurant is nice and open; has outdoor and indoor dining. It was very clean and neat. The service was great as well; very friendly and attentive. We came here for happy hour. It was really good. Half off beer and wine. There is also a small food menu for happy hour; just not available on Sundays. The tacos were good, well made with lots of flavor. The chowder fries were so good. I'd go back just for that.

We sat outside for lunch and it took a little while to get menus. Once we ordered, the food came out pretty quickly. Service was friendly. I had the salmon tempura fish tacos and the fries. The fish tacos were small but tasty and I used the garlic aioli dipping sauce on it. The ketchup seemed homemade which was a nice surprise. My husband had the burger and liked it. He did comment that the crispy onions could be improved.

Great dinner spot, especially if you sit on the patio on a nice day. We enjoyed everything we ordered- biscuits, pork chop and sea bass. Everything was well seasoned and prepared perfectly.

Tasty brunch menu. Had the traditional breakfast with eggs, bacon, hash and sour dough toast. My friend had the salmon salad. I ate my whole plate of food including a taste of my friend's salad. Everything was so good. Eggs yolks were amazing orange , the bacon cooked well and love the hash which they made it so perfect that is not greasy. The sourdough bread was perfectly toasted. Great service and love the outdoor area where you can people watch.

I recently came in on a weekday before the dinner rush hour since the top floor tends to fill up QUICK. I'm a fan of their beer battered fish & chips, Korean BBQ chicken bites, and their Reuben (pleasant surprise). I've also heard the pub nachos are popular as well, but I haven't had the chance to try them. I just tried the house 'Henessey's Rita' w/Espero Blanco with blackberry puree. I've got to try the mango one later this summer! One of my favorite, underrated feat. of this restaurant is that they can give you water in a full to go cup if you ask. So if you're still a little boozy after your meal and need to walk things off, you can hydrate too.

Upon trying to order this our server, I think her name was Mallory. Told us that, they can only serve this during the dodgers game... which made no sense as this wasn't something dodgers related. And this was the only reason we came. She came back and told us she doesn't have it to serve. I tried to order an Irish kiss, which is one of their cocktails, and she said she didn't have any. At this point, it's like, okay then can you please just tell me what you do currently have on the menu? Our server was nice, but even so she didn't exactly know what is going on or what they had available Do not order the lemonade; it was watered down.. as if someone poured it out on accident and it just sat there until someone ordered one. It had no flavor whatsoever. All that saved it was the cowboy burger was pretty decent, and they have good quality of bacon... Overall, I was not happy with this experience and I am not sure I will be returning.

So, this afternoon's walk, my friend and I decided to stop in - not quite lunch, not quite dinner ... the best of both! First, the best view, sitting outside with the perfect balance of sun and shade and a view of the ocean. Next, truly one of the best service experiences - Danny! He made a great first impression and just kept raising the bar - his recommendations were spot on. His knowledge of the menu was so helpful and he seemed to truly take joy in making us happy. We shared the Tuna Tataki, Crispy Popcorn Cauliflower, Sweet Potato Fries, and as if that wasn't already over the top and enough ... the Rocket Calabrese Salad with Hanger Steak. I never order steak as I usually don't enjoy it. Danny ensured us this would be the best pairing for the salad and he did not lie! It was cooked to perfection. I might now be a carnivore! We were so full and yet I couldn't leave a leaf, crumb or morsel behind. Oh and because we were talking about tequila - he encouraged us to sample their house infused tequila (infused with pineapple and mango). Oh my! If you are looking for a restaurant with a large menu, you will be disappointed. Sure, portions of La La Land were filmed here, and they have some movie memorabilia in the back of the place but they offer far more than jazz here, if that is your impression. There is rock, reggae, salsa, lots of tribute bands, and other stuff. While this may have once been purely a jazz club, I am certain the market simply won't carry (most) strictly jazz places for very long. Based on one photo I saw on the wall, this place has been around for about 76 years. That is impressive. For jazz aficionados, they offer a three hour Sunday jazz brunch (and this is the only time when folks under 21 can enter, by the way). For brunch, there are only four food items available on the menu: a breakfast burrito, avocado toast, one pancake (singular, not plural) and bacon, sausage, and eggs. Remember, you are here for the music, not the food. As for the food, my breakfast burrito was interesting. Knowing restaurants in California, it was probably cooked by a Latino gentleman but this looked like th emost Caucasian burrito of all time. It had chorizo, eggs, potatoes, and other stuff in it, and the tortilla had a nice cheesy skirt on it. It was also on the spicier side, which I enjoyed, but fair warning. I wasn't sure I was going to like it by its looks but I ate the whole thing. It was also a belly bomb and kept me satisfied for about 6 or 7 hours afterward. The avocado toast was actually very good and made with good quality bread. I thought the music was excellent. The members of the band (the John Kithcart Quartert) played their assess off and really seemed to enjoy themselves. True jazz (not that soft elevator music gunk) was popular at one time but let's face it, it is not popular anymore. Jazz certainly can be enjoyed as background music while you enjoy your one pancake but it is certainly not intended to be enjoyed that way. To fully appreciate it, you have to pay attention to it. That doesn't seem too much of an ask. After all, it is the folks on the stage who are doing the hard work. Our server was very good. She was friendly and attentive. My only experience here is with the Sunday jazz brunch so I cannot speak for the venue at any other times. At least for the Sunday brunch, whether you like jazz or not, this place is well worth a try.
