Nick's breakfast baked goods are truly unique in the Bay Area. He makes a "fugasse" -- a flat breakfast bread from Italy -- baked with grapes, olive oil and rosemary that is a near perfect accompaniment to coffee. The bacon and cheddar scone is much better than scones elsewhere -- the consistency and taste is more like a corn muffin. The price is nice too -- $1.50 for a great cup of coffee (with refill) and $3 for the scone. The pizza's are also excellent and the place has a nice, no-nonsense vibe. The other thing to compliment is the work ethic and responsiveness of the staff. Nick continues to expand hours and offerings making this an attractive alternative to other cafes and pizza places in the area. Nick truly plans his menu carefully using the ingredients that are seasonal and fresh. He uses feedback from customers to make this place better everyday. There are reviews here about the lack of substitutions and not custom making pizza's -- he makes up for this by selling slices and this why they are able to provide a better pizza faster than other pizza places. These are freshly made pizzas, lined up and ready to be placed in the oven for faster turnaround. The base crust is thin with just the right amount of crispness on the bottom. The outer ring crust has the fresh baked bread feel that is the hallmark of any good pizza. He even has fresh desserts -- strawberry shortcake and tarts -- extremely rare for a pizza place. This place is perfection! Nick and the staff could not be more welcoming and kind. Each bite reminds you of the fresh, high quality ingredients. As other folks mentioned slices and whole pizzas are availibe and beyond reasonable given the quality. At lunchtime slices are limited to the more basic choices: pepperoni, cheese or spinach and mushroom. I am in heaven eating one of the more original creations, but I never knew a slice of cheese pizza could taste so good. read more

literally my favorite pizza. the perfect thickness (chewy and dense but fairly thin, crusty top then instantly pillowy omg) and perfect tangy sourdough. i know it's similar to a ton of other sourdough pizzas but i swear it's the best one. also the restaurant is adorable and the people are also adorable and wonderful. the chocolate chip cookies are usually slightly burnt which might add to their greatness. my favorite pizzas are usually the more unusual/less frequent meat-free ones, but the classic cheese and spinach & mushroom are always amazing. thank u! read more

Literally created a Yelp account just so I could give this place 5 stars. I've gotten the vegan pizza every time I've come here and each time it has been among the best pizzas I've ever had, including the dozens of pizza I ate when I took a trip to Italy. Yesterday the vegan option was beets in a lemon vinaigrette sauce. Given the quality of the pizzas my friends and I had ordered in the past, we went for it despite the potential for disaster (I admittedly would never think to put beets on a pizza). It was incredible. I think I would pay the same price just for some olive oil and their delicious crust. It's that good. The folks working there are plenty nice and I've never had to wait too long for a pie. This place is an absolute gem. read more

I have ordered delivery from Nick's Pizza twice, and both times the pizza was great and the delivery guys were prompt and friendly. I suppose it's a bit pricey compared to the Pizza Hut across the street, but I think the quality and the flavor are worth it. This is more of a Cheeseboard type of pizza, not your Lanesplitter's or Zachary's style pizza, both places I do not like, so draw your conclusions. read more

This is a sad review for me to write as I have loved Nicks. We ordered two pizzas, a salad and cookies tonight. When the driver delivered after 1 1/2 hours of waiting the first thing he told me was sorry your cookies are cold and we don't have anymore...ok not a big deal..until I brought the pizzas in and discovered how cold they were. This is the worst pizza me and my guest have ever had. Cardboard was the consistent opinion of all of us. I called and informed Nicks. They were kind enough to refund the cost (which is why 2 stars vs 1) but the reasoning was because it's Friday and they are busy...not a really valid reason. Hopefully this is a fluke. read more

Good crust, it's sour dough. Bomb af. You can't build your own pizza but they got some good ones available. A few rotate bi weekly I think, all the pies here are good, the cookies are tasty too. This place is the best spot in town imo. Theres isn't ever a ridiculous wait and ya not expensive for a good pizza. read more

Nick's Pick is usually everything I want in a pizza. What you may not expect is an incredibly light dough. Really very fab Oakland style zza, think Cheeseboard as far as toppings are concerned but maybe a bit more refined. My first review! I picked this place for take out last night after reading the reviews... And wholeheartedly agree with all the praise. Good food deserves a good review, so i decided to add to the chorus of people loving this spot! We got 3 pies -- The peach/prosciutto, mushroom/spinach, and cheese. We also got strawberry shortcakes. The folks were incredibly friendly, very prompt (I asked to pick up the order at 5:30, and it was right on time), and the food was amazing. I never thought of peaches on pizza, but I hope to have it again! The mushroom/spinach was really good too - not at all bland, it had some good spice. I did not try the cheese, it was for the kids. But, our three little tykes ate the whole thing! And they are not huge eaters. So, that's a review right there! The shortcake was really tasty, too. read more

I have never had such an experience with an establishment in the yelp area, especially a place with relatively good yelp reviews. I called in for delivery. After keeping me on the phone for about 10-15 minutes just to take down my information, I was told I was not in their delivery area. I explained to them that I was only 3.1 miles away, however the person to whom I was very patient with for the previous 10-15 minutes started to get rude and told me she was going to get off the phone if I was going to be "mad". I then tried to explain to her that I was not mad, I just wanted some pizza, and then I all heard was *click* She hung up on me!! Unbelievable, I don't want to hurt anyone's business but this was one of the worst customer service experiences I have had in the past 10 years. And what is so sad about the whole thing, is they didn't even give me a chance to try their pizza! read more

I'm pretty traditional when it comes to my pies. Pepperoni, sausage, mushrooms and I'm good to go. Needless to say I was skeptical when I saw the menu. I had 4/5 slices and was pleasantly surprised. This place is terrible. Upon walking in I felt really uncomfortable, the store was pretty messy, & the employee was not welcoming whatsoever. They got my order correct, but the placement of the sliced pizza ordered looked like they just threw them in the box with no care. If you're going sell pizza by the slice, load them into separate small boxes. It seems they just have cooked pizza sitting out & just warm it up to serve which is just absolutely disgusting. I much rather have my pizza freshly cooked & served. The server was also very suspicious. I noticed she was in the process of taking the pizza out of the oven & she started eating something that looked like it was picked off the pizza she was making for my order. Also she kept looking at my girlfriend & I really suspiciously as she was loading the already cooked pizzas sitting out into the oven. The pizza wasn't satisfying in anyway possible. I will not be coming back here ever again, nor do I recommend anyone with a great taste for pizza to come here. read more

Love the sourdough crust and unique toppings. Everything is always fresh and yummy. You might call and confirm your order if you order online (which kind of defeats the purpose of ordering online.) I went to pick up my order a few weeks ago with two little kiddos in the car and they had somehow missed it (they were able to see my order though when they checked.) They were very nice and fortunately they had an extra made that they were able to give me. Next time I will call in though. read more

After moving to North Oakland from North Berkeley, my husband and I were missing our regular visits to Cheeseboard and decided to give Nick's a try. We placed our order online (this was super easy -- you can even pay online!) then walked over to pick up our pie. It was nice and hot even after the walk home, and we dug in right away. Our crimini mushroom pizza was tasty -- nice toppings, good crust -- but overall, it was nothing particularly special. A solid pizza, sure, and something we're glad to have in the neighborhood, but it sure didn't stop us from daydreaming about Cheeseboard. I hope Nick's does well, though! read more

So, I order the "Porky's Picnic" which is bacon, roasted corn, and cheese. For something called "Porky's Picnic" there wasn't a lot of pork. But the corn was delicious and the crust good. And it had flavor. But I also ordered a dessert. One pizza, one dessert. Only 2 items. And the delivery guy comes with just the pizza box. As he's handing it to me I notice he has nothing else. I ask about my dessert. He says he doesn't have any with him. Did I want him to come back or get credit. Good grief. I say credit and close the door muttering to myself (I'll admit it). And then noticed the tip curled in my hand that I had not given him. I felt a little bad as I do like to tip and usually at least 15%, but they forgot 1 of 2 items and charge a delivery fee. Didn't feel that bad. So, good pizza, bad delivery. May be awhile before it's checked out again. Oh, was going to give 3 starts as the pizza was pretty good, but for 3 stars the description is "a-ok" which the situation was not. So meh. read more

Love Nick's pizza. This is as close as you can possibly get to eating a bunch of pizza and not feeling terrible about yourself after- the majority of the ingredients used are organic, and the pizza is so ridiculously good that it seems like a justifiable splurge if you're going to do it. Also the chocolate chip cookies- AMAZING! Born and raised in Berkeley and this is for sure the best pizza I've had there- and yes, that includes Zachary's. The only downside is that they stopped delivering- kind of devastating- and they don't customize the pizza's on request- you have to stick to the menu that they offer. But they change their offerings often and the plain cheese or pepperoni is so good that it's not a big deal if you can't get your usual pizza with the 6 weird toppings that only you like putting together! read more

Okay, full disclosure: Nick is a good friend of mine, and I'm loyal to my friends. But I'm also super-picky about my pizza, and Nick's is one of the only slices I've truly enjoyed since moving from Brooklyn to Oakland three years ago. New menus every week, delicious toppings and combinations, and most importantly, a sourdough crust that strikes a perfect balance between crispy and chewy. And Nick's an experienced baker/pastry chef AND a born-and-raised Oaklander, bringing delicious pizza by the slice and pie to his hometown. Even if I didn't know Nick, I would eat satisfying, fresh, real pizza here all the time, while soaking up the super-friendly vibe, too. Highly recommended. read more

Oakland style pizza indeed. Thin crust sourdough (it seems?) you can order online (or call in) and carry out. Best for carry out, I think, but there are tables inside and one outside. Also really amazing pastries in the mornings -- personal favorite is the bacon cheddar scone, or the sourdough loaf. Pizzas are on the slightly pricier side, but definitely worth is. Ordered a cheese pizza for delivery and it arrived overdone (burnt cheese) and cold like it had been sitting out all afternoon. It was actually hard. Big bummer.
