I made reservations for 2 at Nico online through Resy. We were assigned two bar stools at the end of the bar beside the entrance and next to the beer taps. It was a very undesirable location. Although the host said he would try to accommodate it didn't happen. There were several empty tables but were told that other guests who would be arriving later would be given those tables. we left and went to Red Drum which were very accommodating . I hope this was a communication issue and would like to give Nico another try but this experience was disconcerting. read more

Very interesting menu items with slight twists on favorites--like fries with Camembert fondue!! I myself had 22 fantastic oysters, choosing from this fresh local and that fresh brought-in...we were there on half-off-oysters-day! Several days have specials, so check their menu! Interesting cocktails with fashionable elements like "espresso vodka" and "honey-rosemary simple syrup" (not in the same drink!), and solid wines of each color, about a dozen each. Other reviewers can fill you in with more, BUT, I wanted to applaud above-and-beyond customer service. I left a beloved hat behind, and to sum up, when I called, not only had they found it, but they kept it safe for me for WEEKS, as I arranged to have it mailed back. They kept in great touch--Jordan even left me a VM letting me know the day they mailed it back. My wife and I have been making Charleston our Anniversary weekend destination for the last 4 years. We have our usual spots but was searching for something a little different. We stumbled upon Nico's restaurant on a Saturday Night. The valet service was a nice welcome, nothing kills the mood faster with me than having to fight over parking spots. Upon entering we were warmly greeted and shown to our seats. The outdoor patio area by the bar has a chic, cool vibe to it. Our server, Anne greeted us again. She was amazing! We started with a dozen of the baked Oysters with Parmesan and garlic. The oysters arrived in a timely manner with bread. The oysters were slightly undersized but when you are used to Gulf Coast oysters, all seem small. The taste was amazing, that's all that counts anyway, right? We moved on to our entrees, my wife had the scallops and I had the lobster roll with fries. My wife said the scallops were flavorful and very filling. My lobster roll had a generous amount of crab and lobster atop a French bread. It had wonderful flavor! I've seen reviews that complain about the serving size, I'm a bigger guy and I was definitely full when I left. I would rather pay for quality over quantity any day. The only negative, and it's not really a negative is I wish they had a better selection of beers on draft. They only had one tap, but hey no big deal, it's was a lager that pretty much satisfies everyones beer palate. As we finished our meal, a very nice man came to our table and asked us how our meal was, turns out it was Nico himself. If you're spending $140 on a meal, it's nice to see an owner and chef that cares this much about the overall experience. All in all the service, food and overall experience gets Nico a 5 star review. Our experience at Nico was fantastic. We had a large party of 8 and the restaurant accommodated to us without a problem. We are in town from ATL and we were looking for a good dinner spot to enjoy our time with friends in Charleston. I got the steak frites (well done, sorry yelpers) and they cooked it perfectly. Pleasantly surprised. It is a new seafood restaurant in Charleston so I wasn't sure how it would go but it was fantastic! Scenery is beautiful and has a nautical as well as French twist to it. The portions were perfect. They were small but not too small. You sacrifice the small size for the richness in flavor which turns out to be the perfect meal. I had the scallops which were fresh in a rich corn sauce. By the end I was scraping up the last bit of sauce! Yes! Finally a place in Mount Pleasant that I can call home! Amazing seafood, not heavy and affordable. Nico's is the new hotspot on Coleman and I see this place blowing up within the next month. We started with the shrimp cocktail which was totally different from any shrimp cocktail you have ever tasted. They apparently smoke the shrimp to give it an exquisite taste. I like the fact that they serve mayo with it too dip... the way they do in Europe. The shrimp and periwinkle is were the money is. The sauce is the legit sauce to go with escargot which float in there so no hassle taking them out if the shell. The light breaded shrimp are cooked to perfection. The calamari were amazing and something you'll never get somewhere else. In the end, the honey drizzle was too much but I recommended them to put it on the side so maybe they'll change that soon Overall... they see me again soon! read more

My husband and I went to Nico for an impromptu date night (thanks Mom for the last minute offer to babysit!). We sat at the inside bar and shared several smaller dishes. We started with the wood-fired mussels and half a dozen raw oysters. The mussel broth was absolutely delectable. I wish I could have fit an entire loaf of bread in my stomach to not allow a drop to go to waste (I caught my husband drinking the broth, but I didn't go that far LOL). He loved the Glidden Point oysters and said they were perfectly salty. Next, we shared an order of the baked shrimp. We both agreed the shrimp themselves needed a touch more salt, but the sauce that was on them was delicious (not me wishing for more bread). Lastly, we shared an order of the bacon clams with a side of pomme frites. The camembert fondue that came with the fries was surprising, but fantastic. I want to put it on everything. The bacon clams were wonderfully smoky with huge pieces of thick cut bacon and peppers in the broth. Of course we had more bread to soak up all the yummy broth! A shared bottle of La Petite Roche Cremant was perfect to wash it all down with! The atmosphere was perfectly lively while still being a great lowkey place to enjoy a romantic date night. read more

I love the ambiance of Nicos. Our apps were delicious with the selection of raw oysters being my favorite. The drinks were good but quite strong and service was slow getting them out. We actually ordered a second round as soon as our food came out and they weren't served to us until a while after we finished our meal. Our main courses were ok. Some were over salted and others were not worth the price. The flounder dish was spectacular though. Dessert was very good. Overall, I can't say we would visit again. read more

As frequent visitors we always enjoy Nico's but our recent meal there with friends was especially notable. Prompt friendly courteous staff. The raw oysters are sublime and well presented. Our salmon we shared was perfectly cooked with such a delicious caper sauce we asked for more bread to soak it up and try to finish it off!! Each couple Shared the main course was plenty and left room for each of to share the best creme brulee ever! As usual, food was quite good tonight, We eat at NICO often. However, their inability to control noisy and rude customers near our table will unfortunately prevent us from returning. While sitting on the patio and attempting to have a normal table conversation, we were overwhelmed with shouting and multiple extremely loud conversations by the table of 13 next to us. When we approached the staff, they were compassionate in their comments but did not take any action to remedy the situation. We were gifted a dessert as a consolation prize after having our dinner ruined by loud and obnoxious parties. NICO must address tables like this in order to keep local and returning patrons in their good graces. A bitter disappointment as we were introducing multiple new diners to them tonight. read more

Nico has been on my list of "must try" places for a while. With its unassuming exterior, one might easily pass it by in favor of some of the "on the water" offerings nearby, but I had heard great things about Nico's seafood from locals. My party dined on a weekend afternoon. Since it was the off hour, we had the entire restaurant to ourselves. The interior was cozy and comfortable. I found the exposed spray insulation a bit strange and wondered why they wouldn't plank the ceilings to give the space a warmer feel. Some small design touches could really give the place the nautical feel they were seeking with the menus and class the place up. We were seated quickly and our server was friendly. Not particular warm, but certainly professional and knowledgeable about the menu. I started with the baked scallops from the wood fired menu. The presentation was nice with each of four scallops situated on a shell filled with harissa butter. Four small baguette slices accompanied the scallops on the plate. I was a little concerned - the scallops had no color - they still had that glossy look - but I chalked it up to the wood-fired baking (I had never had scallops prepared this way). However, the harissa butter was the star of the plate. The smokiness of the harissa was gorgeous and the baguette turned out to be a perfect touch because I didn't want to see a drop of that butter wasted! For my entree, I opted for the lobster roll from the comfort section of the menu. When it arrived, there was a momentary thought of, "why can't a lobster roll just be a lobster roll?" The lobster was balancing on a bar of buttered bread. My first impression was wrong. The smaller bread serving balanced out the juicy (and large) lobster serving perfectly. It avoided all possible complaints about the lobster roll being "all bread" or "mostly filling" that is often experienced with the dish elsewhere. The lobster roll was delicious and the side of camembert sauce is a nice touch (initially). My only complaint/suggestion about the "camembert fondue" is to dress it up as "fondue." A tealight to keep the cheese warm would have been the perfect touch, as once the cheese (quickly) turns cold, you may as well be in Velveeta territory. And the fries. I just read an article featuring a chef in Atlanta (Garden and Gun magazine) that said a lot can be said about a restaurant by the state of its fries. So true. The fries with this dish were a complete disappointment. I'm guessing frozen. No salt or seasoning of any kind. Truly confusing to us why a chef would choose to put those fries on any plate, much less a plate where obvious effort had gone into such a lovely lobster roll. We shared the creme brulee for dessert. No complaints. A server torched the surface at the table which is a nice touch. The serving was huge and served in a shallow Pyrex-like bowl instead of the usual ramekin. A heavier dessert would have thrown the meal out of proportion but the creme brulee was the perfect final touch. NICO would have been a solid four star experience for me had it not been for 1) the illness that followed for 24 hours that I suspect was due to undercooked scallops (as everything else was shared with others), 2) those fries, 3) the "camembert fondue" that quickly became "cheese sauce" once the heat was lost, and 4) the water has that very strong "marsh" smell that influences every few bites. At these prices, some filtered water is necessary. It is hit-or-miss, but I think some tiny tweaks could greatly improve the experience. read more

Happen to stumble upon this place while headed back to our vacation rental. Excellent food and very attentive staff. We had a party of 8 that included 4 kids and the server did a great job of providing some dining options for the little ones and explaining everything on the menu for us adults. Everything we tried that evening was spot on, especially the Le Petit raw bar platter, which was so amazing! They also have a great craft beer selection as well and beautiful interior to boot. Nico definitely lives up to its reputation. The food and atmosphere are absolutely amazing. The options are French, so don't expect Americanized Cuisine. Shout out to Bella, shes one of the ones in charge of the oysters and does a phenomenal job. The waiters were attentive and everything was clean. The waiters wore masks and kept distance as they can. We had a group of 8 and they had no issue accommodating us. Their drinks are delicious and so are their desserts. I had the chocolate cake and icecream that they have and it was heavenly. My meal was a mix of seafood but everybody got different things. The owner works there and checks on everything. It's nice to see how dedicated to his business he is.
