This is one of my go to spots for brunch on Sunday's. They have unlimited mimosas with all you can eat Tex-Mex food. The selection is pretty wide including chicken enchiladas, Spanish rice, beans, ect. They serve really good omelettes as well which is my personal favorite. The environment is very relaxed, tejano music, TVs with either sports or children's programming on. It's a good time. The pricing is affordable but keep in mind that you will be paying about $3.00 more for the mimosas. But they are well worth it. read more

I've been here twice for lunch and have to say the food is very good and reasonably priced. Service was off the first time, but was fairly good when I went for the second time (last week). One thing I don't like about Nico's is that they serve their sodas with an absurd amount of ice, to the point of which the drink itself is pretty diluted, and you get about two sips in before you need a refill. This was my main sticking point with the service during my first visit, as I recall the server was slow on refills. It was better the second time around, but I still found myself waiting at times (I generally down about 2 or 3 glasses over a meal). There are a three different "3 taco" entrees to pick from (brisket, pork, carnitas) and I believe they each run $7.99. I wanted to try one of each kind and the server was not sure the cook would be willing to do this but he asked and made it happen. See photo. The complimentary salsa they serve with the chips (also complimentary) is different, and neither my co-worker or I liked it very much. The quality of the food itself is better than most Mexican restaurants I've been to, but not as good as La Hacienda Ranch in Dallas, TX (though more reasonably priced!), nor is it as good as Villa's Patio or El Perico in Marion, IA. This is not a good place to have if you're really in the mood for Tex Mex. our family and friends ate there last Thursday and the overall food experience was poor. For an appetizer we ordered the queso dip which you could totally tell it was basically a knock down version of Processed cheese. I ordered the shrimp cocktail which is described to be six jumbo size shrimp in a spicy sauce but what I got was mini salad shrimp that you could tell was frozen for a long time defrosted and placed in their sauce. My daughter ordered the chicken fingers with french fries. The chicken fingers were frozen and reheated and tasted very old. My wife ordered the brisket tacos and it was very dry. Not sure what my friends ordered but they didn't seem to be pleased either. Would definitely not recommend this place at all. read more

Love this place! Had my husband's birthday party, 50 guest, fajita buffet, on the patio. Everyone couldn't stop talking about how good everything was! Great food, great service, reasonably priced! I will say they were a little short staffed, as most businesses are in all industries during this rebuilding post pandemic shutdown. They did have a help wanted sign up. I'm sure the short staff issue will be resolved soon. This is not fast food but this is a place to come relax and enjoy great food! read more

BEWARE My date night ! So we went to Nico's restaurant it's a local Mexican place that we typically go to and there's a very sweet girl here and who knows and respects that I have dietary problems. we had a different server Nathan asked for the girl to put my order in but yet I see the guy type he had it with no butter no oil no salt and hardly any cheese the thing came out loaded with all of the above! I didn't realize until I had three bites of the first piece with fajita quesadilla now I'm in the bathroom puking my guts up with diarrhea! it really pisses me off that people don't take dietary concerns or peoples health problems seriously. So now I have to suffer I'm in the bathroom vomiting with diarrhea because of that jerk not taking my health problem seriously. The manager tells my husband she's taking it off the bill - big deal not the point. I patron just came into the rest room and heard me vomiting and asked if i was ok and needed a wet napkin. Some chronic diseases are invisible to the naked eye but just as or maybe more serious. Cross this place of the short list of places I can eat at. To top this horrid experience they establishment had the nerve to charge my husband $30.00. I'll be sure to send them my hospital bill and Medical bill for the throat tares!!!! read more

After the waiter completely forgot my entree, by the time we were able to find anyone to come to the table the rest of my party had finished their food. I decided to just cancel my order. On top of that, when the bill came they had used my card to pay for someone else's food. They reversed the charges, but still now I have to watch my bank account to make sure. As I was leaving I told the manager that I hope she realized I never even got my entree and her excuse was that she just started her day shift. This was our first time here. My wife and I had lunch and were pleasantly surprised. Excellent chips and salsa. Our server made sure we had plenty. Our glasses were never empty. So, the service was excellent. How about the food? There is a lunch menu and the prices are very reasonable and the selections are varied. I had the shrimp enchiladas. A good call, they were great. I would have given this a 5 star for the experience but I did not love the beans. I say I did not love them but I managed to clean my plate. My weekday lunch experience was very underwhelming... Food wasn't good and the pricing / service was average. I ordered the chicken fajitas and found that the chicken lacked flavor and was a little rubbery. It slightly reminded me of the chicken chunks used in Subway sandwiches. The rice also lacked flavor but that's a common problem with many tex-mex restaurants so I won't hold it against them. This is probably the first time I've ever felt guilt about giving few stars to a restaurant. Why do I feel guilty? Well, I thought the staff at Nico's was SUPER nice. The service/staff was definitely the best part of our experience there. Don't get me wrong - I don't think this place was appallingly awful or anything... but I don't think I'll choose to go back. I do most of my judging at a TexMex place based on their margaritas and queso. I was trying to stay on the cheap, so I just ordered a house frozen margarita (I always get frozen when they're cheap, helps it go down easier.). It was large, which is a plus, and taste wise it was fine. Nothing to write home about, but it wasn't bad. However.. the queso was some of the worst I've ever had. I can't believe a previous reviewer said the queso was the best thing there. Perhaps I ordered the wrong kind! The best thing I can compare it to is the industrial nacho cheese slop you buy in large cans that goes on nachos at the ballpark or a small fair or something similar. You know what I'm talking about. It's worse than Velveeta. That's how the queso here was. Awful. Food wise, I ordered some spinach and mushroom enchiladas and black beans, no rice. I thought the enchiladas were pretty decent, actually... but I think they'd taste a lot better if they were $6 and not $8! My husband got some fish tacos that were like $14 and so, so, so not worth the money. I guess that my real complaint about this place isn't the quality of the food, but the prices. The price makes them seem like they should be better than they are. I can pay the same or less at On the Border and get better food. I ordered the #1 from the lunch menu, which included a cheese enchilada and a hard taco with rice and beans, but I asked for ground beef inside my cheese enchilada. I also ordered a cup of tortilla soup. Tortilla soup was good, but it was all downhill after that. My main dish arrived. I got a whiff of the meat as I bit into my hard taco, it wasn't pleasant. The smell of the meat didn't let the food sit too well in my stomach, it also lacked flavor. So, I moved to the rice... very bland. Even the sour cream didn't taste the same, and the beans were fine I guess. It's a shame, because the place looks really nice, the music is great, and the staff is really sweet/awesome. I so wanted to love this place!! But it fell vert short of all expectations. The experience reminded me of eating at Mexican restaurant in the northern part of our great country. The chips were fine and salsa was okay....as far as I could tell. Its served in tiny ramekins that butter traditionally comes in. And ours were never refilled. The queso was creamy (as queso often is) but flavorless. The service was bad but the margarita was Awful!! Pretty much like warm water with a splash of cheap tequila. I ordered a bowl limes but then it tasted like warm tequila water with lime. I asked if they could do something about the flavor. The drink was served in a water glass and was clear with a little brown haze and about a quarter of the ice it should have had. The waiter quickly said ice watered down the drinks. (They seemed to recognize the problem before I verbalized my compliant.) I did want more ice but figured I could request that after they fixed my terrible drink. I would have agreed if the drink had been sitting out for a few hours. It was $7.50 for the house but they tried to sell me the $13.50 margarita. That one has to be better Right? Since my waiter didn't fix it or give me any ice I asked a waitress. She returned it with the same amount of ice but a little triple sec. They added some color to it but very little flavor. I took some of my water ice to try to cool it down. The chicken fajita nachos was actually good! Though not warm when I received them. Service needs major improvements. The food could improve as well. Hubby wasn't impressed with his steak at all. The combination of apathetic service and expensive, warm, gross margarita will make me avoid returning. Nico's is about the best local mexican restaurant in the Richardson area. They make the best chili relleno's. Apparently the owners used to work with Mattito's in Dallas and they have the bob armstrong dip. Best chili relleno's because it's just like Mattito's and I don't have to drive all the way downtown. I have had many other things on the menu and find all of them very good. They have a similar Sunday brunch as well. Highly recommend - I am very glad they are in the neighborhood. read more

I came home from work today and just as I step inside the house, the hubby declares that he MUST have fajitas for dinner. Ugh, not usually a fan of Mexican, or Tex Mex but, I'm never one to turn down drinks. Our go to spot for fajitas is Uncle Julios, so we started to make the trek out to Addison. As we're driving by, I point out that we should try out Nico's. With squealing tires, Hubs busts a U to turn in. I guess he was THAT hungry? It's a small restaurant - kinda old and new at the same time. You can tell they must have recently renovated at least the booths. We ordered beef fajitas and I ordered the taco platter. I asked if I could get a combo to try everything out and our server was really nice and said no prob. So I got the brisket, carnitas, and al pastor) The food came out pretty quickly and it hub's fajitas smelled DELICIOUS. The brisket was a little dry, but omg the carnitas taco was SOOOOO good, with a slight crispy to every bite like you're eating bacon.hahah. The al pastor was also very tasty and the chunks of pineapple were a nice little end to every bite. The mojito special (1.99) was really watered down, so I'd just get a soda next time. All in all, I'd totally come back and load up on tacos. This will definitely be hub's quick fix for his fajita hankering. It certainly beats out Cristina's & Gloria's near here. read more

This place is very close to our other office and I have recently twice found myself near Nico's way past lunch time and starving. The first time I ordered a lunch special that came with an enchilada, taco, rice & borracho beans. I loved the beans. They don't subscribe to the "pea and carrot conspiracy" with their rice. And the enchilada wasn't the best I had ever had but was more than edible. The second time I ordered just an enchilada dinner with queso instead of the chile con carne on the enchiladas. Sadly, their queso was very lacking. I won't make that mistake again. And I know I don't have to spend the money on queso as an appetizer. I found this place good for a late lunch and very reasonable in prices and I'm sure I will be back in the near future next time I'm over at our other office. read more

Service is friendly, but I have to agree with some of the other comments that much of the food is bland and prices are a bit too high for the quality. Sunday brunch is better than the normal lunch/dinner menu because it's something like $12.99 for an all-you-can-eat buffet, including made-to-order omelettes and bottomless mimosas. I don't understand why people in Murphy wait forever to get into Christina's when Nico's is just up Renner and has a huge patio and bar, and seldom a wait. And better salsa and food in my opinion! We liked Nico's a lot! Our waitress, Vicki, was super nice and gave us a free Bob's Dip since it was our first time. Chili con carne, sour cream, guac, and queso - it was delicious! We also liked their chips and salsa. Since we were there on a Monday night, we got the enchilada special, which was $4.75. For the $4.99 enchilada special at El Fenix, you have to get the regular cheese enchiladas, so we were happy to see that at Nico's we could choose between cheese, beef, or chicken. We were even more excited that we could do a combination of two. My husband got a sour cream chicken enchilada and a beef enchilada with the sour cream sauce and was happy. I got two cheese enchiladas - one with chili con carne and one with queso. I will probably just do both with chili con carne in the future - that one was the best. The atmosphere was nice, as well, it is good-looking inside and has a great patio out front. Next time, we will be sure to make it there on a Sunday for brunch! read more

New location 1610 E Beltline, Richardson. Food good, margarita good, service very poor. Had a staff of 12 for about 15 customers. Once food delivered never saw server again. To get a drink went to bar, still no service not even a bartender. Wait staff all huddled up in rear of facility. So they would not have to walk far we were seated beside the Hostess stand, so we could hear everything going on with the staff. There was no supervision. If this is an example of how they run their business, no need for me to visit the other location. read more

I'm a regular at Nico's because of it's location. The food is fair. I go there to have drinks and I really enjoy it. The staff is friendly and all know me by name which makes it feel like my very own 'Cheers'. Wednesday's are good because of their Margarita specials. But, recently they have extended their happy hour! Don't remember the exact hours but I think it's 2-6 or 7. Makes any weekday a good day to stop by and grab a drink. I definitely recommend the patio if the weather's nice. There's friendly service, fairly spicy salsa and decent chips. The outdoor patio is nice, especially with a breeze. The fajitas were smaller (quantity wise) than I would have liked, but still tasty. No judgement zone here: the "Tony Romo" margarita was pretty dang good. Forget the name or your prejudices towards the quarterback, but the drink was strong and there was a two drink limit for this. The food here was pretty good. We've since moved but ate here as recently as March '09... We lived across the street so we'd come here pretty often and we always enjoyed Nico's food. Ok, My wife and I tried this place Sunday at 11:45. Wish we hadn't it was horrible. The young hostess sat us in the corner under the tv and there where plenty of booths available and we where soon to find out why! I ordered the burrito, even with the tomatillo sauce it was bland and greasy. My wife had the chicken enchiladas and she said they where ok. Hot sauce should be HOT. Texture was good but no heat. I made the mistake of ordering beef fajita tacos (which believe me was no mistake as that was delicious also...) but my lovely bartender brought me out a plate of brisket to sample and wow, was it fantastic. I would drive from my home in downtown Dallas to have that again. Servers were friendly, and the owner was kind enough to donate a gift card to our event while we were there! My family loves Nicos, we live not far from the restaurant and it's always a great go-to option. Their chicken crispy tacos are the best I have ever had and I ordered black refried instead of their other option and both bean options are vegetarian and they don't use lard which was a plus for me because that grosses me out. My family tries a variety of options and loves all of them! Their chicken, their plates, carnitas...you name it. Two days ago we were there and had a simple mistake in a transaction but we noticed a few days later when it went through in our bank transactions and we went in to figure out the mistake and the manager was extremely nice and gave us options for the refund. We ended up staying for dinner using the refund as a credit and she also gave us 10 dollar voucher for an entree for next time! Everyone there is so nice and welcoming. Excellent customer service. Considering that I used to drive to downtown Dallas or Houston to get my Tex Mex fix since * I didn't trust the places in the burbs, * On The Border isn't that great (to me, they're horrid) unless you just want to meet people for drinks/chips, as is Posado's in Plano, and * Tia's and Cozumel closed down this place is a gem in East Richardson. My first visit was to their Sunday Brunch, which was a great experience (and continues a couple of years later) because * Great selection/variety/flavor in the buffet (they have chile rellenos and tamales!) * Very kid-friendly (will accommodate kids/strollers, have balloons ready, and have kid-friendly items like French toast, waffles, and pastries) * Great customer service and crowd management (you're in a busy restaurant, but you don't have the nagging annoyances of a crowded restaurant b/c the waitstaff patiently clear aisles and chairs, keep drinks and plates moving, and are available for help w/o aggravation. As for regular lunch/dinner fare, again if you're in the neighborhood, it's a great option. Now w/ Chuy's open in Plano, we still choose Nico's because the location + food wins. There is outdoor seating and a relaxed, but fun vibe when you drive by (it is a busy but manageable strip w/ a Starbucks). Pros: * Location (near Starbucks, other shopping) * Food + value, especially Sunday Brunch * Happy Hour - I drive by every evening and it never seems deserted * Customer service - the waitstaff, hosts, management are friendly and accessible * Takeout - the chips are plentiful and great the next day! :) Cons: * Parking - even though it is in a sizable strip center, (Starbucks w/ its drive-thru, the nearby gym, sandwich shop, and nail shop) during peak hours you will have to walk to park your car.
