Had, what was arguably, one of the best Mexican meals I've ever had, and I've lived in Texas since 1969. Nico's has the best cheese chile rellenos. The raisins and pecans give it a burst of sweetness in the middle of all the cheese and sauce. Instead of beans, ask for their sauteed vegetables. The veggies were perfectly cooked. Because the rellenos are so good, I've never ordered anything else off the menu, so this review is one-sided. read more

A very authentic Tex-Mex restaurant with a great atmosphere. The food is fresh and it does not compare with the food at On The Border, plus the service is very well. I absolutely love love this place! Great service staff are nice and always there to grab whatever you need. Their Sunday brunches are an absolute bonus- (as someone that moved here from NYC it's a must) they do a breakfast/lunch buffet with unlimited mimosas it doesn't get better than that. Tonight we had a HOA meeting at Nico's and we had about 15 residents. The restaurant only had guest at 3 tables. The patio was wide open and there were plenty tables inside too. The owner said unless I could guarantee everyone was buying food we could not stay. Our HOA always have our meetings at this restaurant because it's a neighbor establishment but the owner was rude and said he didn't want our business and told me to get off his property. Well we will never be back again!!! First the food is below average and Casa Mama down the street have better drinks. The owner was very rude and nasty. read more

Whoa...... stopped in for lunch while having our car detailed and was not pleased. Queso appetizer was just melted cheese and the beef in the chicken/beef combo fajitas was tough as old shoe leather. The flavor was there, but very little onion and peppers on the plate - which are my favorite. I also don't like being asked if I want sour cream and guac with the order, which is an extra $1.50 and just a small blob at that. Really??? You have to penny pinch me on something that traditionally accompanies this meal anyway? Would be a better idea to just add the $1.50 to the cost and be done with it, instead of irritating me. Very disappointing. Chips were ok, salsa was too watery and didn't have much flavor. I ordered the beef fajita lunch- meat was very tough (almost inedible) and just tasted salty. The guacamole was terrible- no flavor what so ever- did not even have onions in it that I could see. The rice and beans were ok, edible. I hate giving bad reviews, but I just had to on this one. Very disappointed in this Tex mex restaurant.. I had high hopes too! Service was super terrible! We literally watched them watch a soccer game while waiting to order to-go ...they walked over looking annoyed during a commercial. Not surprising it wasn't crowded at 6pm! Food was cold when we checked it in the car before leaving but we were too annoyed to take it back in to exchange it for fresh food. Too bad since they are so close and it was the first restaurant I tried in this area when we were just about to close on our house last May. I can't think of a reason to go back to Nico's. First, the staff were obsessed with putting us at a table in a trash alcove near the kitchen. When we asked for a booth they put us at a booth in the back. Why the heck did we have to sit in the back the place was empty! The next sign we were in the wrong place was a table placard that advertised hamburgers. This was a TeX Mex place?? Now we slid into restaurant hell with all the fast food Mex crap being 10.00 a plate. The fish was frozen and talk about a fish taste! The flautas were buried in sour cream and green junk. Cheese was non existent. The rice was either underdone yet burned or just burned. Our next stop was race track to clean that taste out of our mouths. Save your money. In and out is fresher, cheaper, more pleasant staff. I think the menu must come from Missouri. Any taco shack is a step up. read more

The food was just ok but definitely more on the tex mex side. Not sure if I would go back because there wasn't a good kids selection and what my kids did end up getting, they didn't like it at all. I don't know but to me what my kid got which was a grill cheese sandwhich and chicken fingers did not look appetizing. Nico's is very close to our office, so it's a regular 'go to' place for us. I honestly couldn't begin to guess how many times I've been there for lunch. I always get the lunch burrito with beef and the chili ranchero sauce. The complimentary salsa and chips goes very quickly at my table and they always keep everything coming. The actual service for entrees can be somewhat hit or miss, but it's never been bad enough to keep us away. There's nothing really special about the food. It seems consistently good, but it's not something I'd drive across town for. Knowing my co-workers, I've probably got a lot more trips to Nico's in my future that's okay. read more

I went for the Sunday Brunch Buffet. First, it's a great value. Lots of food and unlimited beverages. They have an omelette station, you put your ingredients into a ramekin and they bring it to your table. Very good! They have a very wide variety of Tex Mex and breakfast favorites. We went here for dinner last week and then brunch this past Sunday. I didn't even know this place existed until we were intending to eat at Schiano's down the street. We saw Nico's and were interested because they have a HUGE patio and it was full of people. We decided to eat dinner there but we did sit inside because a lot of people were outside smoking on the patio and I really detest being around smokers while I'm eating. If I'm drinking only, then that's okay. Anyway, we got a small cup of queso to start with and I really liked it. It wasn't like Velveeta with some peppers mixed in. Then I had the cheese enchiladas with ranchero sauce for my entree. The ranchero sauce was delicious! The cheese inside the enchiladas was alright and I say that because I think it might have been that "fast melting" cheese that isn't really real cheese. But I can't be 100% sure about that. I can't remember what my friend had but I do remember him saying it was really good. So that was a nice dinner. Now about the brunch. The brunch was pretty good and it's only $12.99 with FREE unlimited Mimosas, too. They have a lot of breakfast items to choose from as well as Tex-Mex dishes. The chile relleno was awesome and was different because it had raisins and pecans in the sauce. Loved that. There is also a build your own omelet station that is cooked and brought to your table. There were some items that were just okay - like the charro bean soup, but overall this brunch is a good value for the money and the food is overall pretty good. Ambiance- great patio if you can stand the smokers or if you are a smoker. There is a full bar inside as well. The decor is average, but nice. Try it out and see how you like it! read more

I wasn't feeling well tonight but the husband had to have cheese enchiladas. So......off we go to Nicos....We sat next to a party of 16 and I believe 10 of them were kids. I went for my birthday and LOVED it! I don't know why I waited so long to visit this place. Mexican is my favorite and was very pleased with with my dish which consisted of enchiladas, soft cheese taco, beans and rice The tortillas were thick and yet tender and the beans and rice great. None of our dishes were greasy at all, even the chips were not. If you love enchiladas, try them on a monday, they have a 5.95 special. I agree with the poster who wrote why go to Cristina's when Nicos is not far at all from Murphy. It is less congested, has a great atmosphere, reasonable fare price wise and the food is quality. I found them spice wise to be mild to medium in flavors, not a fan of too spicy to where your eyes are watering... the whole family enjoyed Nicos. Will be back for sure. We used to love going to Nico's. But over the past few months we have noticed that the service has gone down hill. During the Sunday brunch the lady that they have making omelettes has been rude and sends out raw omelettes. She also sends out the wrong order and everyone is left scratching their head trying to figure out which omelette goes to which table. Our latest visit to Nicos was especially bad, my omelette had egg shells in it. Yuck. My daughter also waited 30+ minutes for a cheese omelette. We live across the street from here, and this is a great place to go for cheap margaritas and decent food. We've been going there for about 2 years now, and they've made a lot of improvements to the ambiance. ie - covered outdoor seating, more tvs, etc. The staff is always nice, but service is great about 80% of the time. The food is decent, but nothing spectacular. My personal favorite is the Chicken Quesadillas. This is mainly out of necessity since I can't find anything else there that really blows me away, but they are pretty good. I have to side with the other reviewer that gave the queso the abysmal rating. It really is NOTHING spectacular. The salsa is also nothing spectacular. It's acceptable. The margaritas are great. They're sweet, and cheap - a great combo. We only go there on Wednesdays to take advantage of their specials ($1.99 10oz margaritas all day). Unfortunately, this establishment closes EVERY day at 9pm, despite being continually packed at that time. This deadline hinders us quite often since my girlfriend and I will sometimes have to work late. Cheap prices, cheap drinks, well worth a trip on a Wednesday, but nothing to drive ridiculously far out of your way for. read more

I went to Nico's for lunch during a weekday lunch break. I was satisfied. The Food: The food is not too bad. I would call it average in the realm of tex mex food. I ordered the Chile Relleno lunch special. It came with nuts and raisins on top. This was a little startling, but turned out to be a good combination. The Price: Most lunch items are in the $6-7 range and dinner items in the $7-8 range. The Service: The service was lightning fast. Fries were seasoned perfectly. Sour Cream Enchiladas, rice, beans, black beans, chips salsa, and beef enchiladas were great. Briskit Chimigordo with chili sauce was very good. Mine had a tad to much chili powder on about half of it. Had lunch at this place yesterday. Worst service ever. They don't care about customers, all they care for is tips. The waiter was so rude that he was forcing me to give him a tip and was asking me several times if I want to tip him. No water offered in spite of asking multiple times. The service was extremely slow during our last visit and our waiter, if you could even call him that only came to our table twice. We had to let the manager know that we wanted to order after waiting 20 minutes and again when we wanted a check. We waited 20 minutes to place our order.
