RESTAURANT: This location has been here for several decades. I have not been back for quite some time, maybe over ten years. It's nice to see that not much has changed. The aesthetic inside is still very true to the Japanese culture with small Japanese status and art work on display. There is a small sushi bar at the back corner and seating are available for small group parties. I am not a fan of carpet flooring. Located next to US1 and there are plenty of parking within the shopping center. SERVICE: The owners had been the same for many years and had always been very polite, as what you would expect with the Japanese culture. We came at very slow evening and we had the place to ourselves. My son was dissappointed to find out that the bento box was only available during lunch, but the server/greeter/owner lady told us that she can make it happen for him and that just made his day. She answered all of our questions and always had a smile on her face. She was very attentive as she was serving other customers as well as it got busy. FOOD: This visit, we had the shrimp tempura entree and the red scorpio roll and a chicken katsu bento box for my son. Each entree includes a soup/salad of your choice. The food tasted just as I remember from many years back. And I am just going to say it, they have the best tempura in Homestead. The portion size is good, very authentic and delicious. The red scorpio have my favorite tempura softshell crab. It's lighter compare to the other rolls with the fresh vegetable inside minus the heavy sauces on top and it look so vibrant with the colorful masago on top. The bento box for my son included a soup as well, with a couple California rolls, tempura veggies and the chicken katsu strips. The katsu was crispy on the outside and juicy inside. Overall, this was a nice walk down the memory lane back to when I used to work across the street, we had a lovely dinner. I still believe that they are the best Japanese/sushi restaurant in Homestead. Very authentic from the service to the meal. Fairly priced and so convenient with the late hours. So sad to see how the quality of this placed has tanked. My husband and I have been ordering take out from here for a while, at first we were in love! The nice Japanese lady that always answers the phone was so sweet and helpful and always go our order right. The last 5 times maybe that we have ordered they've not only gotten our order wrong but also the quality is not the same. They've either put the wrong food or shorted us on nigiris. A very quaint Japanese spot in Homestead. We were immediately greeted by the friendly staff. To eat: 1. We started with the shrimp tempura (shrimp, zucchini, onion, sweet potato). The ingredients were aptly breaded and fried, however, the dipping sauce could use a modification. Perhaps there needs to be more dashi broth. 2. Spicy crunchy tuna roll: the flavors and sauce were delicious, but the tempura flakes were overpowering, i wish they had a little less inside of the roll and a thicker slice of tuna. 3. This is the second time I've tried this, and I thought I would give it another chance. The restaurant was empty, with only three tables (two with four people and one with two) on a Saturday night at 7:30 pm (warning #1). I still sat down. Let's give it a try. The server arrived quickly and handed me my menu. Then I waited for her to return and take my order. While I was waiting I overheard her tell the table next to me when she started to bring out the appetizers that she will bring the other waters "when the cups are ready ". Now there were only 11 people in the restaurant, including me (warning #2) There were at least three empty tables that were dirty with plates, bowls, and used paper on them that looked to have been there some time (warning #3) Considering all this, I still placed an order. But I have to admit that 5 minutes later, I cancelled and walked out. If you go to a restaurant, at least the tables should be bused and cleaned, ready for the next client. Water glasses and some silverware should be provided. In a restaurant with at least 10 tables, with only three being used by no more than 10 people, this standard should be met. There is no excuse for not having clean glasses and silverware. I have not been discouraged from eating in a location because of the sanitation and service. I am not going to blame the servicer for everything, as she is working with what she has. But the management needs to observe what is going on with their restaurant I don't want to typecast, but especially an Asian restaurant when there are so many that have been shut down for sanitation and cooking issues. My heart breaks as I try to make this review. I have been going to Nikko's for over 30 years now. I pride myself in speaking of the infamous restaurant to so many of my friends, family, and colleagues. My husband and I went to the restaurant yesterday and I was so disappointed to see that anywhere you walked on their black rug was sticky and just plain dirty. We ordered a boat for 2. The boat was kind of plain just the seafood sat in it. It looked almost empty nothing appealing to it. Every piece of seafood we tasted was fishy and the obvious inviting look to the meal was just not there. My heart sank as I lifted the second of the third white fish on my boat and saw hair on it. No it wasn't a big hair strand. It was more like an eyelash And I would normally not complain. I mean, we live in the greatest country of the world and sometimes we could be so picky, but unfortunately last night I was extremely repulsed and grossed out. It was so hard for me to accept that there was hair in my food and the fish just didn't taste right that my husband and I both left half the boat untouched and just asked for the check. The waitress did apologize, however it did very little for us. The waitress did discount $10 off the bill, which we were not looking for at all. I am just heartbroken to say that maybe an inspection of Nikko's needs to be made for the customers sake. Needless to say that after 30 years, we are closing our doors to this restaurant and it is very sad. Therefore, we cannot recommend this place any longer. I purposely did not take any pictures of our food for the reason that I didn't want to add more injury to insult. Masako does not deserve that. Had a great experience here. Maybe it's not the best sushi in Miami, but it definitely hits the spot. My favorite dish was their grilled mushrooms in ponzu sauce appetizer. The miso soup was great as usual not too salty, the fried eggplant was amazing(lots of flavor-teriyaki), the pork ginger was ok but still flavorful. Funny because on every plate was writing in sharpie, you think a simple double check of the receipt would be appropriate before sending an order off that was paid for with tips. (It seems to be a common theme in the homestead area, that is orders being messed up and a lack of quality assurance. ) As for the food: I paid $15 for the ginger pork. It wasn't anything special compared to say Panda Express. My plate consisted of two small scoops of white rice and the pork-ginger entree. I didn't take a picture but anyone would be disappointed with how little was actually served. I got the miso as a side and the to go cup has probably 1/3 of a cups worth. I cannot believe the size of the order I just picked up. I ordered a miso soup half of the already small cup had soup and in it was maybe two tofu cubes. My tuna roll was a quarter of the size of a normal sushi order. My husbands spicy octopus salad had about two pieces of octopus everything else was cucumber. Nikko has average sushi. Their price point is quite expensive given the lack of variation in their menu. There's only a few sushi rolls that have raw fish in them, while most of the dishes only offer some form of tempura in it. I wish they had more creative rolls but sadly they do not. One menu option that really shocked me was their special roll for the day: a ceviche roll. This was disgusting. It was so bad I didn't know what was on the roll. I ended up throwing the entire roll away because it truly could not stomached. Definitely not worth the price for their sushi. I would recommend elsewhere. read more

I am a regular here and the delicious food is why. I order delivery because they're close to my house. I usually order the bonsai roll which comes with the most delicious sauce. This was a little gem i I have been looking at for years. I had Dragon Roll, Salmon Hand Roll, and their version of the Special Fried Rice. Everything was extremely fresh, with great taste and great portions. The sushi had excellent taste to it. Now I have to tell you this though the fried rice had big pieces of shrimp, chicken, beef the seasoning was done excellent this was a fantastic idea and I'm glad I got it. Stopped here for a quick lunch before heading back to work. Wasn't really in the mood for sushi, but I did end up ordering a spicy tuna hand roll which was pretty good. My daughter had the tuna sashimi and she enjoyed that as well. As my meal I ordered the ramen, and even though at first sight I was Not impressed, I must say it was delicious. I have to say I've lived in homestead 8 years now and for the most part have been happy with ordering from Nikko. As mentioned by some reviewers, not everything is what you would normally expect. Tonight I have to comment on what I received. I don't mind paying for good value. The 4 items I ordered through DoorDash added up to 67.00. The Onion Tempura is fine and what I expected. The salad is kind of a joke as it's only Iceberg lettuce with ginger dressing. The Shrimp Sushi were small. But the California Roll was laughable. The Sushi Chef is a talented man to make a roll smaller than the tip of my thumb. I'm impressed, however, I will never order from here again. Go there and see what you're getting. Exceptionally good sushi for affordable prices. My favorite rolls (that seem to be in the top favorites) are the dragon roll ($10+ tax) and the Spicy crunchy tuna roll ($12.50+ tax). Seriously cannot beat those prices for some sushi, especially considering how expensive the competitor sushi spots are here in homestead. The dragon roll is a bit on the small side but sooooo tasty!! I was actually surprised at how much I liked it. The spicy crunchy tuna roll is much bigger (size, not quantity) and has raw tuna on top and inside. I read so many negative reviews on this place so I didn't think it would be much of a memorable experience but these two rolls pass in my book and I loveeeee GOOD sushi. I don't know about all the other rolls.. I'm open to trying more rolls in the future. Only reason I'm giving it 4 stars is because the quality of the sushi doesn't taste as "fine" as the other sushi I've tried in homestead (five spice, sake) but it's still good. read more
