Based on the strong reviews we decided to give Niko Sushi & Steak a try. We arrived Monday around 6pm. We were seated immediately and the place was bustling. 2 sushi chefs and I saw maybe 2 cooks in the back. Our waitress promptly took our order. I ordered a specialty roll and my son ordered the salmon nigiri . I also ordered hot green tea. Rolls came out pretty quick. However my roll was loosely pressed and the Tuna was incomplete with sear, it seared oddly. Coloring and consistency was off. Like an opalescent grey. See pic. It did not look appetizing to me. I ate it and it was tasty but again the rice was not compressed enough to give you a satisfying bite. The salmon nigiri rolls were good Also I didn't care for the presentation. The two orders should have been separated but were plated on the same plate . The miso soup was 10 stars. Delicious and a rich flavor Tofu pieces were semi firm My salmon combo dish was just okay. Salmon was dry and a bit fishy , however once dipped in the sauces it was good . The sauces were its saving grace. The veggies were well seasoned and a variety given. The rice was dry and didn't have a fresh steamed flavor or consistency We always have steamed rice at home and this just didn't have a fresh flavor or consistency. Salad was fresh, crisp and the ginger dressing was yummy. Weird Note regarding service. Once we appeared finished with our rolls (I left 1/3 of the speciality roll ) our waitress asked if we were ready for the check and if she could bring us a box . We reminded her of our main entrees we ordered and she was very apologetic and said she would check on them . Hot green tea was served in an iron tea pot. This was a disappointment. I was looking for a Poke bowl, and one of the reviews said they had them, but they do not. We stayed anyway for the sushi. The sushi was just okay, nothing to race back for. And the service was TERRIBLE. One of the items were ordered they were out of, another roll never came, despite our asking about it. The server said the chef said we got everything we ordered. When we got the bill they had charged us for the missing roll, and the chef just shrugged. At least they took off the charge! I love Niko Sushi. The food is always on point for me, tastes fresh, and even when I get takeout it is thoughtfully presented and delicious. There is one server there in particular (whose name I unfortunately forget, but he offers a bow of respect when serving and thanking) who always done a fantastic job. He is welcoming, attentive, knowledgeable and sweet. My only critique is that the Miso Soup could use a lot more seaweed and tofu! Its already delicious and would just be taken above and beyond if I could get more than two tofu bits per serving. Otherwise I have only good things to say about this place. I got the cucumber roll. I can't remember the name. No rice. It was pretty good. Soup was normal, good. My date got the tuna. Scallop was shared and was delicious. Service was a bit slow, but polite. I would recommend. read more

Both times I've gotten sushi here, I ended up with scales in my mouth. If it was a one-off, I'd be a little more generous, but it happened twice! The non-scaly pieces also just didn't taste great, so I can't say I recommend Niko for sushi. I have only gotten takeout and have only ordered sushi, so I can't speak to the ambiance, service, or other food items, but I don't see myself coming back here to try anything else based on my experiences. read more

Walked in at closing and hoped to place a to go order, they said it was no problem. They were super friendly and chatty while the chef worked on our order. So 2 days ago we ordered sushi from here and had a terrible experience. They called us today asking how our experience had been. They said they had a new trainee. Upon hearing our dissatisfaction they said they would re-do our order for free. They delivered right on time, the roll we had asked to be fried last time (and wasn't then) was done beautifully, they gave us the beef roll like we had asked for instead of the chicken like last time. Everything had more flavor and the knife cuts on the sashimi actually went through the fish and were done much more prifessionally. We were very pleased with today's order and we will try them again. One of the best restaurants in town, hands down. Staff is always on point, food is delicious, and the menu is huge. My favorite item on the menu is the miso soup. I like Niko sushi. (Makuni is good too though). My favorite sushi at niko is the sunshine roll topped with salmon. It's $10 and every time I've ordered it I find that you get decent sized rolls and the fish tastes fresh. The servers are very nice. Check in and they give you 10%off except sat&sun. read more

I got some food to go during my trip to Laramie! It was quick, and completely hassle free order and pick up. The food was pretty good (I got the Agedashi tofu, shrimp tempura and the chicken bowl) and the portions are massive! Perfect for a girls' night out before going downtown. Not a lot of seating, but they were able to get a large group of us in quickly (for it being a Saturday night). I got the philadelphia roll, as did one other girl in our group who was new to sushi. She wished she would've started off with a more "beginner" sushi and laughed it off as having tried the experience at least. While I enjoyed the roll, my favorite philadelphia roll still comes from the sushi place down the street (not to name drop or anything). It is a little place right across from U of WY. Hard to believe but great sushi in Wyoming. All of the food is excellent with a very nice and friendly staff. The rolls are nice size and look as good as they taste. This place is a real treat to have in Laramie. Check them out you won't be disappointed. Please note this isn't your $200 a meal sushi place. Quality sushi in Laramie! The style is simple preparation of fresh fish. This restaurant although small puts together great sushi and many other Japanese dishes do not miss!! My fiancée and I had 2 hibachi meals he had the steak and rice, the steak was dry and meal was cold I had the chicken and steak teriyaki meal with fried rice and the best I can say was that the hottest thing served was the rice. Our waitress was more interested in serving beer than getting hot food out and completely avoided answering a question my fiancée asked about purchasing a bottle of the plum wine. Lacking in fresh ingredients should probably be an expectation for land-locked state like Wyoming, but it's no excuse for yellowtail that tastes just like a dock smells. Disappointed. Update: I received a very nice response from the owner for my previous review giving exact timing details. So I wish to modify my review slightly, as his attentiveness deserves a response. The food is more like 3 1/2 stars, but the service was very slow. My daughters recommended this place after the football game. I am still not sure why restaurants don't allow you to make reservations on game day (the owner said it was because people don't show up, which is sad that a few people ruin it for responsible diners like me). We arrived and the small restaurant was full (maybe 30 total seats). We had a party of 7, and we were the only ones waiting. I ordered beef teppanyaki. Half the table ordered sushi, the other half ordered cooked food. We then proceeded to wait quite a while for our food to come out (the owner said there was someone new, they were understaffed). The soup, salad, entrees and sushi all arrived at the same time, instead of in courses, which I did not appreciate. The restaurant was not even half full by this time. Perhaps I'll give it a try again when it's not a game day. read more
