She takes late lunches (between 1-2 pm ) so I figured it should be a quick bite to eat for us. Oh boy was I wrong! Let me count the ways how service was bad. First let me start off by saying it was 2:30 on a Monday afternoon and MAYBE seven tables had people at them and my server only had two from what I could see. 1. Arrived at 2:30 (not busy) and it took at least 3-5 minutes to be greater and seated. 2. Waitress comes over about 5 minutes later to say hi and tell me she'll bring water. 3. The waitress was on a "one table at a time" process. I only saw her when she had food or drink for our table or another one. The ONLY reason I'm giving this place 4 stars is because I've never had any issues with carrying food out. Actually quite the opposite. They have food ready, fresh and hot. The reason I'm giving three stars is the quality of the food. I think here they're known for quantity not quality. They're food is huge and you get a lot but the food is mediocre. One of the BEST wings I ever eaten!!!!! It's one of the only places anywhere that has broasted buffalo wings! They give you 12 huge wings for like $6. It's ridiculous. The sauce is delicious and the wings are crispy and addictive. Other highlights are the huge portions of food. I mean Huge! One entree can be shared by 2 people with leftovers. Broasted chicken is super good. Ribs are yummy. broasted potatoes are huge. Salad is good too! Pasta salad comes with feta cheese. I love it. Ordered: Ribs, Pork, & Chicken combo w/ chicken gumbo & mac n' cheese Ambiance: Came here on a whim when I was having a bbq hankerin'. Fairly dimly-lit place with a southern colonial feel. There are open shutters built into a dividing wall and a prevalence of salmon-pink walls and warm brown woods. The staff were quick and friendly but did go at 4 so it was pretty empty. Food: I was fairly underwhelmed with the food overall. The chicken gumbo was essentially a liquidy mexican rice with tomatoes and okra, it could really needed some andouille for complexity and a hefty kick of cajun/creole seasoning to make it interesting. The mac n' cheese had an unnatural deep golden mustard color and was soo mushy I couldn't finish it, it tasted OK but I couldn't get the thought that they were using powdered cheese out of my head. Thankfully the entree had some redeeming qualities. What Nikola's does well is texture and portions. Their ribs (5) are cooked until they are crispy on the outside but still come right-off-the-bone tender. The pulled pork and whole bbq chicken breast were both very moist and savory. The fatal flaw, however, is that everything tasted baked/steamed. What I mean by this is that there was no smokiness, no discernable rub, and no caramelization on the outside. It tastes as if the meat was just brushed with sauce after it came out the oven, not like it was cooked or smoked into the meat. They also only have 2 sauces, one is a sweet-savory carolina-type vinegar sauce and the other tastes like frank's red hot sauce. There was no KC-style savory smokey sauce which is what I was really craving. Overall, this place is a good poor-man's bbq or lovers of carolina-style bbq. You do get hge portions for a reasonable price and the meat is cooked very well although it doesn't taste like true charcoal/wood-smoked bbq. read more

They have a really wonderful sweet potatoe side dish with some kind of sauce that has a nice flavor of cinnamon and other seasonings. This place always seems to be buzzing, so be prepared for a wait. At my age I've eaten at a lot of different establishments, from 5 stars to the local hole in the wall. Not much impresses me anymore, until I visited Nikola's. We live in northern Michigan and after bitter cold temps, endless amounts of snow and not leaving the house for a week. We contacted a friend who lives in the area to meet for dinner, she suggested Nikola's. After a long drive we finally arrived. The outwards appearance of the building looked very nice and the parking lot was jam packed. There were several people waiting to be seated. Our friend wanted to sit at the bar, I prefer a table, but she said the had a great bartender, so we headed to the bar. We were lucky enough to get seats as a few people were leaving. We were greeted instantly by the bartender Staci. She was very busy, but she was so welcoming and friendly even while busy. The greeting was much appreciated. It bothers me when I go somewhere and I am not acknowledged. Busy or not, all you have to say is hi and I will be with you as soon as I can. It's rude to let a patron sit there, ignore them and come back 10 minutes later with, "sorry I was busy." We ordered ordered margaritas, which were fabulous and NOT stingy on the tequila either. Looking at the food menu, I couldn't believe how reasonable the prices were. As I saw other patron's food arriving I was shocked!! The portions were huge. The lady sitting next to me was eating a salad, I asked if she had ordered that extra or if it came with a meal. She told me it was part of the meal she ordered. The salad was large enough to feed three people!! My husband wanted nachos and then saw potato skins being delivered, the portion was unbelievable in size. He went with the skins and said they were the best he'd ever had!! I went with a side julienne salad ($5.00) and the deep fried shrimp appetizer. The shrimp were very healthy in size, 10 for $10.00, they are a must have if you like shrimp!! The dessert menu was a dream for me. Living in the northern part of the US, banana desserts are not a staple like they are in the southern region. My eyes lit up when I saw my all time favorite, banana cream pie and banana pudding. I ordered one of each. After indulging in my banana pudding, I didn't need to go to the casino, I hit the jackpot!! The very best I have ever had, hands down!! In a sense I am happy and disappointed that don't live closer to Nikola's. I am only happy about this because I don't have to worry about gaining 30 unwanted pounds due to the banana pie and pudding!! Mom and I decided to stop in here while we were on our way to shop in Northville. I ordered the sliced pork sandwich and mom ordered the $22.00 seafood platter. My pork sandwich cost $6.75 and I had to pay another $1.50 for fries to go with it. There was a lot of pork on the sandwich but it was so dry and tasteless. The fries were lukewarm and not crispy. The waiter was pleasant but he did forget to bring mom her garlic bread and baked beans that came with her expensive platter. The crab-cakes on the platter were very good, made with large chunks of real crab, she loved them. The shrimp was large and breaded nicely. When the waiter returned with her baked beans we were disappointed to see that she received a very large bowl of pork-n-beans...yuck. There is a very big difference in baked beans (something you look forward to at a BBQ joint) and bland pork-n-beans that seemed to have come from a can. I attended Nicolas on a Sunday afternoon. The parking lot was packed and there were several people waiting in the lobby we had a party of four and had a relatively short wait after putting our name in we were seated after about 10 minutes. Pretty quick for it being a Sunday around the time church's were letting out. The service was good, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu. The food is good, prices are great and they aren't Stingy with the portions. I had the orange roughy, which wish I was skeptical about getting but it was surprisingly could very well and taste great the rest of my Paris had barbecue ribs which were also really good but no good as my fav over at slows. Some items are obviously made from box such as the macaroni and cheese. I would recommend this place it is better then the quality you would get over at a restaurant such as Pondarosa or the Golden corral it is more so comparable to red lobster or outback. read more

...hadnt been here in a minute & had forgotten just how great their food is. I had the broiled salmon, rice pilaf + mixed vegetables. the salmon was prepped perfectly and tasted very fresh. Their prices are very reasonable for the portions that they serve. The dining area has two sides, one side being somewhat quiet and more spacious whereas the other side has live jazz (only on Thursdays, I heard) and is a little more cozy. Nikola's is very well-maintained, but our waitress...eh! Our waitress was fairly polite, but seemed to be slightly hasty and very flat. She literally whisked around and we had to wave her down from across the room if we needed something. For example, she brought carry-out containers for our leftovers and placed them on the table beside us. However, within moments before we could pack the food up, she collected our plates without first asking if we were finished /planning to place them in the containers. No refill on water either :-( Also, don't bother asking to split the check because they won't, but they will allow you to break up the method of payment. i can't believe i've been in the area for 4 years and i had never tried this place. a group of 3 of us came here for lunch on a monday afternoon. when we arrived we were promptly greeted and sat by a young lady with a smiling face, which was very refreshing. everyone we encountered here seemed to enjoy their job, which is a great thing to see. you can definitely tell when people genuinely enjoy their job. the menu here is extensive, and when i say extensive i mean they have everything from potato skins, to nachos, to pizza, to broasted items and bbq! the menu has many pages and they also advertise local businesses inside the menu which i think is great. they also serve peteet's cheesecake! if you aren't familiar with peteet's it is an amazing small business owned cheesecake joint in oak park. on to the food, it took me a while to decide but i heard good things about the wing dings, so i ordered those with a side of fries. my companions ordered the pulled pork sandwich and the pork plate. everything looked amazing, and came out hot and fresh! their fries are so good, i honestly wasn't expecting much from the fries but they were perfectly seasoned and crispy. the side of ranch i got was the perfect touch! the wings definitely stole the show, they came crispy and drenched in bbq sauce, i'm drooling just thinking about it! their bbq sauce is delicious, perfectly sticky with just the right about of spice. not to mention you get SO many wings for only $9.50! you could easily split this with another person. i'm looking forward to coming back and hopefully trying the other menu items, especially the side dishes! read more

Mom liked the greens and said they're from the can. She recognized the taste of them because she said she's "cheated" on her greens before and used a little of the canned greens which she thought were good. I knew I should've never ordered the mac n' cheese! I think they used Velveeta (never had so not sure). Ribs were ok but not baby back, garlic bread didn't have any flavor, and sweet potatoes were watery. I was hungry so I ate it and brought some home because I didn't want to waste it. Honestly, my eyes and my stomach bulge at some point when I visit Nikola's. The sheer size of their portions do the trick for both body parts. The broasted chicken...!!!! When I am craving real, crispy, hot, juicy, Southern style fried chicken, this is the thing of my dreams. My hubs usually doesn't care for the stuff but this has turned him into a fan. The ribs are not my favorite type as I like my baby back to be tender and fall off the bone, but for that tougher, make-you-feel-like-a-caveman type of ribs (I've heard st. louis style but I had some sickly tender ribs in st. louis so I don't know), this is the turkey drumstick of ribs. They are huge. Prepare to share even if you are famished. The sides range from ok to freaking awesome. I die for the baked beans and texas toast here (the size of my head, hell yes). I scoop some baked beans onto the toast and die in heaven. Service has always been prompt and awesome the few times we've been. It's always busy and busting with people and families. I had been at this restaurant a few years ago, before the pandemic. I was nearby today & decided to get a ribs & shrimp combination carryout. When I got home I looked in the box. There were only 7 potato wedges. There were 7 ribs (a good amount) and 5 battered shrimp (also a nice portion). The ribs were decently sauced & reasonably seasoned. 3 extra sauce cups were included. However, the shrimp were overly battered and rather greasy. I'm not sure if I'll go back, but if I do, I won't order fried shrimp. read more

I usually go for the soups and salads, but favorites of my coworkers are their lunch sandwiches, specifically the chicken club and the gyros.
