Was nearby and found this spot on Yelp thanks to the great reviews, so I had to check it out. I was especially excited to try the beef katsu and while it was good, I'll admit I was partly going for the presentation (which did not disappoint). That said, I might try something different next time. I wish there had been a lighter dipping sauce to really let the meat shine as the star. Overall though, great service and really friendly staff. I have been coming here since it opened. It used to be really quite good. Pass three or four times that has not been tonight was it the last time. Food is not seasoned the meat is always overcooked the vegetables are no par and then the servers stand around behind the counter and just watch everyone because there's too many of them. Half of them don't have a clue what's going on or can answer any questions. The experience was horrible the food was horrible I no longer going here and I'm so sorry because as I said I've been coming here since the day it opened. The food here at Nikugen always hits and the service is always great. Their Chasu buns are filled with actually slices of nicely charred and Smokey pork belly and dressed with addicting sauce. I definitely recommend any hibachi entree the steak is always cooked exactly as I order (medium rare) and the yum yum sauce pairs is exactly as named. I pour it on everything! Moshi Matcha strawberry soda was pleasant, might need to find me a case somewhere if even possible. Tonkatsu Ramen was delicious, smelled amazing and very flavorful. Rich and creamy broth, noodles were perfect. My man had Nikugen Akai Udon and that was creamy, delicious and spicy. He loved it as well. Found this place randomly because I was missing Japan and wanted to get gyu katsu which is not super common around DFW. Was not sure what to expect, but my expectations were exceeded regardless. The gyu katsu was very good, tender, seasoned, served with a hot grill at your table so you can sear it. But, not only that, I was pleasantly surprised when their hibachi was actually some of the best ones I've had in DFW. Also tried some of their sushi items and those were pretty solid too, but definitely I would come here for gyu katsu and hibachi plates! I have not tried the Ramen, so can't speak on that! Omg hidden gem. It's our new favorite place. Everything is SO good. Husband loves sushi, I love hibachi (i don't need the whole show) so this is the perfect spot for us. Everything is always so good, portions are huge, everything piping hot. We love bringing people here because there's something for everyone and we love sharing and trying new things. Even though it came in a different bowl than the spicy ramen the portion size was probably around the same. This is hands down my husbands favorite restaurant. We go here... a lot. Last night my best friend and I were going to grab dinner but our go-to had a crazy long wait so we came here instead and were seated quickly on a chilly Friday night. We started with their kaarage chicken which is always delicious. It comes with a tiny salad with great flavor. We also ordered chasu buns which are packed with phenomenal flavor. Then we shared the Tori katsu (breaded chicken, comes w steamed rice, a ginger salad and miso soup). We ended it all with a Vegas roll. I will say the Vegas roll was extremely disappointing. The roll itself missed a crunch. It was soggy and even though it had a ton of sauce on top it was missing flavor. Wonderful overall dining experience! Cool concept to offer combined hibachi grill, sushi bar, with ramen as well as gyu katsu all in one beautiful casual location. We started with both bao buns and they were absolutely glorious. The pork tasted slightly smokey and I nearly died eating it. The beef was a close second and very tender. Next we had fried rice and y'all I could have stopped there and eaten that fried rice for the rest of my life. I ordered ramen. While I typically prefer a veg ramen and they one on the menu, I went with the house specialty black garlic ramen. It was pretty good, gorgeously presented. A little bit heavy, and the pork was a tad dry. One companion got hibachi steak and shrimp and dang that steak was TENDER!! Plus the best dang broccoli ever. First time here, came alone on Saturday evening and it was pretty crowded. Food is pretty good and the service is also excellent. I tried the shrimp tempura udon and the sunny maki roll. The udon came out fresh and hot, the broth was nice and flavorful and the noodles were a really nice chewy texture. The shrimp tempura was not that great, it tasted like your typical shrimp tempura with that not that crunchy batter and the shrimp inside also didn't have much flavor. Overall still really good, just the tempura is not that good. I really liked the sunny roll, which is a California roll with some eel sauce, sriracha, and imitation crab. The sauces were really good, it made it like an elevated California roll lol. The rice and seaweed were all fresh, and I really liked this roll. The service was excellent! Even though they were crowded, they seated me immediately as a table of 1 at the bar. Any time I needed something someone was always there to help. Staff are really attentive and food comes out fast and fresh. Ambiance is similar to a spacier and more upscale izakaya. It was pretty crowded and noisy at this time though, so do keep that in mind. Otherwise, everything is neat and prepared. I would come back here, and maybe try the ramen as it seems their soup broths are good. Rolls are also on point! read more

Pretty solid! Came here with my wife and a couple of friends on a Satuday night and only had to wait around 10 minutes or so. I got the black garlic ramen which was really good! The broth was flavorful and not too salty or bland, and the black garlic oil complimented the whole thing well. This one normally comes with thin noodles but I asked for the wavy thicker noodles which I liked a lot. I wish that the egg was soft boiled like at most other ramen spots so that the yolk is runny; having a hard yolk is a bit of a disappointment. A bit of a kerfuffle with our table, standing there at the cashier for a good 10 minutes before being informed it would be a 20-30 minute wait and then waiting around 10 minutes to be seated. Not much room by the door to stand around. Next time we will make reservations ahead of time to reduce the awkward standing by the door issue. I read about the fried squid legs and had to get these for our appetizer. Man! Comes with mayo heavily sprinkled with red chili powder. Wow the batter is so light and crispy/crunchy, the table next to us made an order after seeing us down this appetizer. We wanted to try an assortment so we ordered yakuniku ramen, spicy yakuniku ramen, and one miso yasai ramen. They all came out hot and with delicious broth. I really liked the Garlic Ramen (recommended by server) as the flavor was intense and creamy. The noodles were chewy and fresh. I didn't care for the Nikugen Ramen because it was really salty but it did come with more pork belly than any other restaurant. That's always a win in my book!
