Absolutely amazing place and the best kept secret in Dallas burbs! We live in San Francisco (and I've gone to Japan 2x in the past year) and this is hands the best for quality relative to value. Despite the name, the menu has way more than hand rolls and the sushi pieces are all exceptional and at affordable price points (as low as $3.85 per piece!). Each piece has special garnishing, torching etc. and is delicious; the rice is warm which makes a difference. You can essentially construct a custom omakase menu. No reservations so get there early and wait for counter seating over tables - it's worth it!! Attaching pics of the menu and what we ordered vs what I would do next time. Don't order any sides or hand rolls at the start - just get sushi pieces then you can repeat ones you like or then choose to fill up on hand rolls. I tried this spot for lunch midweek. The first thing I noticed was that I'd been in the area multiple times and missed this spot because of the location and trendy sign. I was seated immediately and the service was very accommodating. I wanted a good sushi spot that's open midday, and that's what I got. I saw everyone order the bento and decided to copy them. It's a good deal, but I would go out of my way for it. The chutoro was the same. I felt like it was missing something. I say this as someone who has ordered this fatty tuna nigiri at several other sushi spots. I debated giving them 4 stars, but I just really appreciated the atmosphere. read more

Yummy! I went here for the first time with a friend after work and we really enjoyed our time! We each ordered the 3 piece handroll set along with a few other nigiri pieces, all were super fresh and tasty! Some of my favorite pieces were the kanpachilli, salmon belly, hirame, and the uni + 1. Hatsuyuki is a no frills place with high quality sushi. We come here a lot and our favorites are salmon belly and chu toro but honestly I've loved everything we have tried here. The menu is updated daily on a chalk board with nigiri or sashimi options as well as other appetizers. They also have good hand rolls and you can also order a set, both are great. Our favorite handroll is bay scallop, and although the price is a bit high I think it's really worth for the quality of flavors you get here! I thought the food tasted good and the sushi quality was excellent. The ambience is also energetic and felt contemporary. My main concern was that I felt very rushed when I was there, almost like they wanted us to quickly order all our food and then leave for the next group of people. I've never felt that way before at a restaurant of this caliber and it did not feel comfortable. What attributed to it was the waitress coming multiple times asking if we wanted to order more food and that we needed to order quickly before food sold out. I can understand that she wanted to be nice, but honestly felt more like a buffet to fit in the last order rather than fine sushi dining in a relaxed atmosphere. I loved the experience here! They were really busy, so there was a 20 minute wait. We sat at the end of the bar. I am not a fan of sitting at a bar because of the limited table space and proximity to other people. However, it was a short wait so we went with it. When we sat down, the server was very knowledgeable since it was our first time. She explained that their fish varies so they have an updated chalk board with the menu of the day. It has the name of the fish, the option for nigiri or sashimi, add on options of that type of fish and the price. They give a paper with additional items to order, drinks, etc. In the section labeled Daily Special, that is what we had to write down to order based on the selection on the chalkboard. We tried the following: Round 1: Sashimi: - Hamachili: this was spicy and I loved how fresh it tasted. - Salmon Truffle Ponzu: salmon is always good and it melts in your mouth. - Kanpachi with Ume: the fish was wrapped around a piece of apple. It tasted better separated and not together. Nigiri: - Shima-aji with garlic puree: this was okay, not a huge fan of the garlic puree. - Chutoro - this was my favorite because the fish and flavors all came together perfectly. - Ootoro: this was good as well, but I preferred the Chutoro. I wanted to try some more in round two and ordered some of the same ones that were good and tried the following new orders: Round 2: Nigiri: - Kuromutsu: this was smoked and it was okay - Sawara: this mackerel was okay. I felt like there was too many flavors at once. Overall, the quality of the sushi was amazing! The sushi chefs were on top of it and explained what each fish was when they served it. The server checked in on us to make sure everything was tasting good and helped with additional orders. This place is pricey if you are willing to spend, but if not you'll need a second meal afterwards to feel full. My friends and I each spent about $100 and we could still eat after. This place was honestly super good. I thought the quality of fish and the taste was 10/10. The way you can tell it's a good sushi spot is also the seaweed. The way the seaweed broke so easily and sort of melted in your mouth was amazing. I ended up getting the 5 handrolls which included yellowtail, bay scallop, crab, lobster and salmon. The crab was good but nothing crazy. The scallop was tender and good. The salmon was super fresh and amazing. The lobster was honestly super packed and delicious but the yellowtail was PHENOMENAL. I'm a salmon and yellowtail guy but the yellowtail just melted in my mouth and it was so perfect. I also got other stuff like the Uni +1 (9/10), Salmon Belly (10/10), Spicy Salmon Handroll (10/10) On top of that I got a few other things but I gotta say this place overall has amazing food but I'd say for how nice and expensive the place is, the service could've been better. I'm not saying the service was bad in any means but I would've appreciated some suggestions or daily special favorites. This is a place that puts their daily specials on a chalk board and it can get a little intimidating looking at so much so I wish there was more guidance or suggestions. I'm just being nitpicky. This place was amazing and had a line waiting to get in 30 minutes before opening. The interior is small and seating is very limited, but it's well worth the wait. We came in and didn't order specifically off the menu. Being our first time we expected the normalized version of sushi, the kind rolled in rice with various ingredients added. This is not that place. This, we were told by the asian staff, is more authentic sushi, raw without rice, some on top of rice, and a few hand rolls which is the sushi rolled into a cone that you hold with your hand. All of it was extremely well done, well flavored, and absolutely not covered in sauces that drown out the flavor of the fish and other ingredients and oils. We asked for was is essentially chefs choice, meaning we didn't order off the menu itself, we allowed the chef that serviced us to decide and make surprise dishes for us. This really adds to the tease and anticipation of flavors. Not knowing what it is because we didn't order it by reading a name listed with ingredients, it really adds to the flavored experience. I highly recommend doing this. The list of rolls that was brought to use was still on the menu, just not specifically requested. These included... Salmon with Truffle Ponzu Sashimi Hamachili Chutoro Sushi Salmon Belly Sushi Nori Shell w/king salmon Toro Gyu Wagyu, Toro, and Scallop hand roll Unagi Fole Gras Sushi Spicy Tuna w/Shrimp Katsu hand roll The were all VERY good, I can't recall which was which, but I do know the Spicy Tuna w/Shripm Katsu we truly enjoyed and had seconds on that one. The staff was so helpful and patient with us. They set us up on what's call the SHARING ALL W12. What this gave us was a 2 sushi, 2 sushimi, and 2 hand rolls, per person, there was two of us. They all come out one at a time, and not all at once, which helped extend the experience and make it more enjoyable. We did order 2 extra sushi and 2 extra hand rolls. Finally tried this new Hatzuyuki location in frisco and it did not disappoint!! It was just as good as the Fort Worth location!! So happy that they opened one in Frisco so I can go here more often :) The quality of the sushi is so good and everything was very delicious!!! We went for late lunch and service was fast and staff was very friendly. They close from 230-5pm so not sure how busy dinner time gets but I went in around 130 and got seated right away. Best Handroll restaurant. I talk about hatsuyuki to everyone who asks where to go. I've been to both the Fort Worth location and frisco. Both are great but I do prefer frisco for overall experience but it's also closest to me so that helps. But we get the handroll set but have them cut it in half so we share and tha leaves us to do more à la carte. It's the freshest fish and the let the fish be the main character. This is hands down the best sushi I've had in the states, and it absolutely rivals some of the sushi I've enjoyed in Japan! Come early to avoid having to wait forever, and get ready for a phenomenal meal :) My fiance and I arrived a little after 5:30pm on a Saturday and we ended up waiting just over half an hour before being seated. FYI folks who arrived closer to 6pm were told the wait would be well over an hour. We were seated at the sushi bar so we had a great view of the chefs at work. Their daily menu is on a chalkboard, and then they also have their regular menu (with the hand rolls). You get a sheet of paper with the regular menu and a big blank space for you to write in any of the daily specials that you want off of the chalkboard. We opted for the 5 hand-roll set to share, and then we ordered a bunch of different items off of the chalkboard menu. I really appreciated that they split the hand rolls in half for the two of us so we weren't having to bite and share one big hand roll each time. While the hand rolls were delicious and great quality, what really shined for me was the daily specials! The place is on the smaller side, so I can see it getting packed on busy nights, but that just adds to the vibe. The hand rolls were fresh and flavorful, and I liked the pace they were served at. The best Handroll Bar in town! It was so good that I went there twice in a month and that's a rarity since I usually don't visit restaurants for years in between. When you sit down, they'll give you a piece of paper and pencil. Take a picture of the blackboard so you can figure out what you want to eat. Note that some lines have two different selections. Su means sushi, Sa means sashimi, and HR means handroll (prices differ depending on your selection). Don't be shy to ask the server questions as they're super accommodating. The service was a hit or miss. We sat at the bar during lunch on a Saturday and the service was fast, but sitting at a table during dinner on a Monday was extremely slow. The sushi is incredibly expensive, but the quality is spectacular so you really get what you pay for. My suggestion is to get the 5 combo handrolls (best value) and at least three of the Hagashi Toro sushi ($15 each). Scatter in some sashimi and try the unfiltered sake. Always ask for recommendations for the server as they have not steered me wrong. This place is great for impressing people like a date or a client. read more

I got the 5 hand rolls and some hamachi thing, the hand rolls were really good and it was nice how they had the chefs serving to you immediately at the bar. My favorite was the crab because it tasted really fresh and had a really nice sauce. Service was good, albeit almost a little too attentive where they kept coming up to us while we were eating and got a little annoying. It was pretty loud in there since it's pretty quiet; there's only around 12 seats at the bar and for larger parties 2-4 tables. I would honestly go back just for the crab handroll. read more

Started off with the 5-hand roll set which included Yellow Tail, Bay Scallop, Crab, Lobster and Salmon. All of the fish were pretty fresh and tasty. No wasabi on the inside of the roll which I appreciated. The Lobster hand roll was my favorite, tasty and sweet/juicy lobster meat. To add on, we also got miso soup, Hamachili (flavorful), Engawa, Salmon Belly (so fatty), Toro Handroll and Scallop w/ Chopped Toro (also one of my favorite nigiri pieces). I love their options for each of the handroll sets because I'm not a fan of tuna that's not otoro or toro, and thank God that all of their handroll sets have my favorite fish options! Their nigiri pieces are actually quite affordable and are also of super high quality. I will say that one of their waitresses gave my friend and I a ton of anxiety by coming up to us probably 8 times throughout our one-hour visit. What a hidden gem in Frisco, TX. This location certainly wouldn't seem like the first you'd think of for great sushi but I was very pleasantly surprised by the quality of the fish here. First impressions are quite nice as the space is clean, comforting and befitting of good larger-scale sushi place. You will also not be expecting how great the nigiri is. I tried the otoro, chutoro, hamachi, salmon belly, scallop, and tuna handroll with shrimp katsu, and all of the pieces were fabulous. When I arrived around 5:45 PM, the parking lot was completely empty--a rare sight, especially considering the usual 1-2 hour wait at the Fort Worth location. I came straight after work and was seated immediately. The waiter mentioned that they're currently in their soft opening, mainly for friends and family, but they're also accepting walk-ins. I ordered three hand rolls and a couple of their specialties. Everything was incredibly fresh and delicious--each bite was so good, it almost made me teary. My favorites were the shima aji, chutoro, and gindara. The Hokkaido scallop was just okay; I wasn't a fan of how much they had sliced it up. Their hand rolls were packed with fish and made great fillers if you're not looking to spend $100+. I'm SO HAPPY they're closer, and the quality is just as amazing. The fish is top-tier, the chefs are friendly, and the waitstaff is great. They have a bar area like the original location, along with three small tables for dine-in. I really appreciate the chef's attention to detail--carefully crafting each piece and waiting for me to finish one before preparing the next. Stopped by Hatsuyuki Frisco this past Sunday with a party of 4 and waited about 35 minutes to get seated at the sushi bar! We've loved the Fort Worth location for many years (as well as Naminohana, run by HFW alum) so we were excited to hear last week that the new Frisco location was doing a soft opening. Staff were very attentive even before we sat down to eat; the host who added our name to the waitlist asked if we'd rather sit at the bar or a table when seats opened up, and also recommended that we walk over to the specials bar to take a photo so we could decide what we wanted to order. When the waiting time was up we were led to the furthest end of the bar right next to the board. My husband and I ordered several sashimi dishes to share and a bunch of the more interesting/less common nigiri, as well as some old favorites. Our favorites of the day were the kanpachi sashimi with ume pesto (fish was so fresh and the extra textural and flavor additions were unique and delicious), the sawara nigiri, which came topped with some garlic chips and scallions, and the perfectly seared engawa nigiri. I second another review that mentioned the rice was a tad mushy; I think that's something they can improve as they work through their first few weeks open. The hand rolls were excellent as usual, and my husband who usually doesn't like ankimo really enjoyed that hand roll. The gindara nigiri, salmon belly nigiri, and anago nigiri were all torched to perfection as well.
