This is our go to Sushi spot. For the price you pay, it's the best you can get. I love the homey feel of this little place. The owner is always there making sure everything comes out quickly. Their happy hour prices are great and it's good quality for the price. read more

Always top quality sushi. Always fresh and great price. My wife and I frequent this restaurant at 5pm (Happy Hour) for best deals and specials. We didn't realize how frequently we attended until the host said as we were walking out "See you next Thursday" We thought about it and yep.. Every Thursday sushi. The first thing I noticed was no beard/hair nets/hats where the sushi was being prepared. I've actually noticed this a lot at restaurants lately, and thought the food safety rules may have changed- they have not. Male waiter was very short with us, later two women started serving instead and they were nice at least. I ordered ramen and pork gyoza. When it arrived the egg in the ramen smelled a little funny and was cold. I dont eat eggs very often and thought I was overreacting. Pork gyoza was also cold. I was up all night and into the next day with severe food poisoning. Will not be back. I can't imagine how much worse it would have been if I would have eaten raw fish from this place. read more

I came here because of the great reviews and was so let down. The inside of the restaurant looks like it's a nice popular local spot and it was busy. The service was really good, and the servers were nice, fast, and helpful. However, the food was not it. Can't say that I would recommend this place, or that I would return. read more

Hubby & I tried this place tonight for the first time. The place is a hole in the wall. The place could use so TLC. The bench chairs need updated, the restroom need cleaned, the soap is not commercial & the paper towels are sitting on the counter. The food is so good, I had the chicken katsu. It's white meat & super good. The sushi is good as well. So was the sangria. However, they charged me for a HH one & then a white Sangria that wasn't happy hour. I had red sangria & both on happy hour. Service was slow. Three teenagers were serving, but we waited awhile to take our order, order more drinks, & get the check. I hate to have our dishes left in the table after we are done. They were there when we left. All in all, we would go back for the food. read more

Our new go-to place for sushi Saturdays. First and foremost, the sushi is great. Sashimi plates give quality cuts. If you don't want a specific fish on the sashimi plate (like if you don't want octopus) they'll exclude that and sub in something else. Rolls are delicious and i've grown to love not doing all-you-can-eat anymore since i dont feel the need to shovel down everything that's put in front of me. I leave full and happy and with a more reasonable bill than when i would do all-you-can-eat elsewhere. My wife and i are old fuddy-duddies now so we tend to eat early which is great since Sushiya doesn't close between lunch and dinner time. They have happy-hour discounts on drinks and appetizers which makes early dinner-time even better for us. The style/decor is more throwback 00's sushi restaurant which is an aesthetic with it's own charm to it. Could do with a little more volume on the background music (if they had any) but that's minor. Service is solid. Employees are kind and helpful but have a casualness that makes it feel like a family place. An older gentleman helped my wife pick out a Sake that she was happy with since we're not too deeply versed in that world. All-in-all we're very happy with Sushiya and i don't expect we'll be looking for a new spot any time soon. read more

This used to be one of my favorite sushi spots, but now I doubt I'll be returning. Came here Sunday night with some friends, and it took over an hour for us to get our sushi rolls. I am especially disappointed with the AZ roll. Not only did it take forever to come out, but it they definitely skimped out on the meat! Our other rolls also took a long time to come out, and the place was not even that busy. Sad to say I don't think I'll be coming back. read more

Sushiya was one of the first spots we frequented when we first moved here in 2015. When I say frequented I mean at least once a week. Tonight we ordered for curbside pick up. Somehow there was a mix up with our order and they could not refund our card that we used. I'm assuming it was Mr. Yoon but he drove all the way to our house to refund us in cash. Who does that these days? Food is always on point and service is top notch! That's what makes costumers keep coming back to them. Way to go! read more

My wife's teriyaki beef was so rough and tough I couldn't even bite through it (I didn't believe her at first as it visually looked alright). When we brought this up to the waitress she didn't look surprised at all and agreed and stated they've been having serious problems with food quality as of late coming from the kitchen. Salad was good (its a salad....) as was the soup. My chicken katsu tasted alright but I've been having major stomach issues all following day. My wife's gyoza tasted horrific. Like, worse than grocery store gyoza you microwave. Inside had the look of grey pate cat food and it had zero flavor. The experience ended as the dining room slowly became filled with smoke, until it got to a point where it looked like the restaurant was genuinely on fire and it was difficult and see and breath (all three of us started to cough at the end and we were joking the sprinkler system might soon go off). We asked if everything was OK in the back, and the waitress laughed and said it is what it is (implying this happens often). We quickly paid and left. We weren't really done (was meeting up with a friend we hadn't seen in 3 years) and we stood outside and talked for about a half hour as the dining room continued to fill with smoke. I wouldnt go back. read more

My boyfriend and I come here every Saturday for dinner! We love the food! The service is horrible. We don't even actually ever know who our server is. Someone will take our order and then we never see them again. Usually have to ask for refills and pile our empty plates at the end of the table. The vibe and ambiance is also horrible. It's awkwardly quiet always. Why don't you play music? We can hear everyone's conversations and it's awkward. It's so strange to us because we both work in a lively restaurant where the music and lighting is always the number one thing to have perfect for a great vibe. This place has a ton of potential and the food is always so delicious! We just wish there was louder music if any so it's not so awkward being there! read more

I was a steady customer, meaning at least once a week to satisfy my wife for 3+ years (pre-pandemic). The service was very poor, unless you got a good waitress. You were lucky to get your food in the order it was supposed to come. Appetizers don't come at the end of a meal, and main entrees don't come for one person. Waitress comes by at the end and asks if there is anything else, and I would reply, yes the meal I ordered...still waiting on it. The straws that broke my back were the hairs (not mine) that came in my food (multiple times), the rivet from the rice cooker in my rice, the take-out that is never right, and the orders never correctly served. (On a side note, we got squid salad (1st time having it), never ordered it, but ate it anyway. So....there are too many better places out there, and I'll never be back. read more

ThIs place has ALWAYS disappointed me. They always take AGES to make the order, don't deliver on time. Tonight I ordered and my Uber eats driver waited for 20 min at the shop. I called them and the guy directly and he hardly spoke English, couldn't give me an update. I waited on the phone forever only to find out it was ready the whole time. Not impressed. A quiet & not busy spot, especially for a Saturday night. The service was quick and the food was tasty. I enjoyed the spicy garlic edamame but the taste was sweeter than you would expect with more of the spice as an aftertaste and on your lips. We came here for their annual anniversary celebration which included half priced sushi. We tried to get there right when it started at 5pm but we were a bit late and the place was jam packed. We waited for just a little while before being seated. They quickly took our order and due to being so busy the waitress brought us over some complimentary edamame which I thought was a really nice gesture. We ordered 7 rolls to split and surprisingly, even with he place being jammed packed, it didn't take too long for the food to come out. Everything tasted fresh and was absolutely delish. Their prices are more than reasonable even at full price. We will definitely come back. read more

A couple of staff members tried to claim her dow. This went on for several minutes. It was crazy. All us customers were silent & just looking at the girl screaming & yelling. The next thing we know, round two. It was unbelievable. What was even crazier was they didn't send the staff member home! No one came over & said a word. No one apologized or said anything. After all of this, they sat couple with us. Finally the chef came to the table. By this time it was 20 til 6:00. Hubby got the filet with fried rice. I got the shrimp with fried rice. Teppanyaki is really more of a show/experience, so the food comes out to you in sections (versus all at once like at a traditional restaurant). The filet was so soft, and was perfectly rare, and the shrimp was so good. I think in the future I'd eat a whole plate of shrimp. I also got to try the yakiniku, and that was also pretty good but very sweet. Their Boo Yah Ka roll was also pretty yummy. It's essentially a spring roll, but with some spice and citrus to it. I felt that the portion was good for a large meal, but my friend who got the chef's combo definitely had enough for leftovers.

I emailed him that same day, and after I followed up on 5/27 he wrote back, copied the store manager, and asked me to send my phone number and a good time so we could talk it through directly. I did exactly that, same day. That was 5/27. It is now 6/9 and I have not heard a word back. No email, no call, no text. The original incident was 5/10, so we are at 30 days now. This wasn't a stray hair - that's relatively benign and sometimes happens in food prep, not great but harmless. This was a different category of foreign body in food: fragments that looked like they came off equipment, which means whatever produced them is presumably still in use, still capable of doing it again to the next person. This is what made the unresponsiveness frustrating. It's not about my daughter's one açaí bowl, it's about whether the thing that caused it ever got looked at. A simple "we looked at it, can't determine yet what happened, but we'll update you" would have been fine, but I got boilerplate "you deserve better" corporate slop. I didn't want my ego stroked, I wanted them to look into something serious. They are great at moving fast in public: their Yelp! reply was up within a day, right under my review, where everyone can see it. But the private follow-up, the part nobody else is watching, has now gone three weeks radio silent, after they were the ones who asked for my number, but never used it. Fast when it's visible, and crickets when it's not, tells you where the attention really goes. If you're reading this and trying to decide, take a little time with the reviews here, the detailed ones and the thin ones, the recent and the older, and decide for yourselves if there is a pattern or not. I'm done with them, they lost my trust. For the record, their açaí bowls when they don't contain bits of industrial machinery are pretty good, but we'll go to Swami's when we are in Oceanside and will try to find something else in the valley.

Being from Brooklyn, I'm really spoiled when it comes to sushi. Arizona has not figured it out yet. Luckily for me and everyone else that's willing to drive a little bit (or use a delivery service), Sushiya actually knows what they're doing. The lunch and dinner is great portions and very good price for what you get. They have a lot of options to try, I really like the chicken or steak and getting that with noodles.

It was a weekday and it was still pretty busy during the lunch hour. The restaurant has a very nice and calm ambiance and it was nice for my grandparents who are elderly. It is comfortable and clean looking and there are single person restrooms. A nice casual sit down place that is worth it for lunch when you are not in a rush.

But at this stage of the country, the people, dayum yall, I get nervous. Send my hubby the email confirmation so he knows what to look for. I even tipped 20 bucks to whoever it was who had to place my order into plastic bags, I can only imagine how thankful any grocery store employee who loads groceries into bags would be to receive 20/ order. The one saving grace to this place is that the sushi was CHEAP compared to anything I've seen in the Phoenix/Mesa area. If cheap sushi is what you are looking for, you will find it here!
