It was a Thursday night and my fella was out with the boys; didn't feel like cooking. Decided I wanted ramen and to try this spot as I'd never ordered from here before. I was a little nervous as to how it would show up, as when you order ramen via delivery it's a bit of a mixed bag with how they package things. Sometimes you get separate containers for the noodles and broth, and the ingredients don't seem to mesh as well together as they would when you get the final put-together product in-restaurant. Other times you get them combined and the broth is cold and the noodles are all waterlogged. When the order arrived I notice that they opted for the separate broth and ingredients containers. If I had to pick a method between put together for you and separate, I'd pick separate... So this was good. I decided to get the miso ramen (medium spicy) with a soft boiled egg and added bean sprouts, as well as an order of pork potstickers/gyoza. The ramen was good. The broth was rich and the ingredients were all fresh and cooked well. The cut noodles were thick and satisfying. It was hot enough (temperature wise) so I did not need to involve the microwave. The spice level was not what I would call a medium, more like a mild, but I get why restaurants do that... Americans do not have the ability to handle their spice as well as much of the countries further East do. This being my first time ordering from them, I'm not bothered by the lack of spice... you need to get a gauge for each restaurant in your first order, and now I know I need to go a bit hotter. The gyoza were crisp and tasty with a great ponzu dipping sauce that had little chives in it. Overall, I was pretty satisfied with my meal. The packaging was good for the meal, I can reuse the plastic containers each part came in too! I know it's silly, but I love that. The food itself was tasty and filling. The portions were huge, I could barely finish the ramen. I didn't have any problems with the order being late or anything like that either. I'm giving 3 stars because the food was good, but not out of this world delicious or anything. It was still a tasty meal though. The food here was 3 stars, the other was for service. The katsu bowl was terrible. The chicken was very flat, dry, completely gluey rice drowned in sauce. Although cheap, it was worse than the price would suggest. Tonkatsu was fine. The broth was fairly tasty, but there was one, possibly two, very sad slices of pork that had broken apart from how thin they were. For being advertised as homemade every morning, the noodles were nothing to write home about. A step above premade. The service is what really irked me. I am seated and watch as two other tables are sat behind me and given drinks and menus. It's fine, maybe the server didn't see me. Finally, a different server notices my barren table and brings me a menu. The aforementioned waitress, a blonde, brings me the bowl. When I mention I need, you know, utensils, she gives me attitude. I still have to get my own renge from another table. She ignores my empty cups even after bussing a table next to me. Also partially my fault for not reading my menu closer, but not being informed that soft drink refills carry an extra charge irritated me. There a few main issues with this place- time, food quality, customer service. Basically the only things a restaurant needs to have. Expect to wait. The food will take forever. Waited over an hour for take out. When we drove home to try it we were disappointed as it was very very bad. We're not picky eaters either. But this food was very disappointing. The pork was so hard and dry. It had a beef jerky like texture but the outside wasn't crispy even though it was fried. Not sure if it was just reheated. It also was covered in a mayonnaise like sauce. The rest was bad as well and we actually threw the entire meal out and got food elsewhere. I actually have a hard time believing if anyone got this dish that they'd eat it which leads me to believe ours must have just been a mistake because they were busy inside. We hoped to just get a refund but they requested we drive back and bring it to them so they could see? If you make someone wait an hour already just for to-go, AND the food is this bad quality, it's just plainly poor customer service to request they drive all the way back with no flexibility. I'm pretty shocked if this is their policy. Never heard of a restaurant surviving with these methods in place. read more

I entered here after the place I drove for was already closed. Sooo, Things I would want to read as soon as I find this spot in Yelp: The most Japanese thing here is the name. The Kaarage chicken tastes more like overcooked, soaky KFC, and the noodles are more like pasta. The flavor of the soup is ok. But dissaponted it features some kind of egg on the pics, and that was not on my to go order. Service was ok... Even though at the beginning I was warned I was the last order... Which I really didn't need to know. It made me uncomfortable, and made me feel rushed to order. I don't think restaurants should do that. Makes you feel like a burden rather than a customer. So, This is not aplace I would be back, but peeps inside eating seemed to enjoy so..... Give it a try. But that's just the kind of stuff I'd like to know. It makes me really happy to have a ramen place near where I live! And a pretty good one that is. There is plenty of parking outside which is a plus. The place itself is a bit small but clean. But lets get to the food: I got a tonkotsu ramen with black garlic oil and a soft boiled egg. Noodles were nice and chewy, the broth was flavorful and at the right temperature, soft boiled egg was cooked perfectly and even though you cannot see it on the picture there is chasu pork. The pork is well cooked: soft and not dry. But I definitely wish there was more of it. We also got the takoyaki that was cooked nicely and had a good amount of octopus. They have many different types of ramen and I cannot wait to go back and try the other ones! read more

No one should eat here. Went for to go and it was one of the worst places I've ever been. We called for to go and basically sat there for an hour waiting for rotten and slimy food. The girl gave us a hand written "on us next time" which was nice but when we got home to eat the food was so bad I was stunned. I used to absolutely love this place! But lately, it's been going downhill. A few weeks ago I had a craving for the nishikawa black ramen. We ordered takeout and when I got home and started eating it, it tasted like it was the last batch of the night from the bottom of the pot. It was EXTREMELY burnt tasting. It wasn't even edible. Tonight, my boyfriend and I ordered 2 curry ramens, medium spice, and mine with an extra soft boiled egg. Again, for takeout. The ramen wasn't burnt tasting this time. Instead, it was very thick and super oily and the noodles had a weird gray hue. Oh and they forgot my extra soft boiled egg. Apart from the food issues, they need to figure out their phone system. It takes forever for someone to answer. And other times, no one answers at all because they aren't open. Even though, according to their hours, they are open. Very frustrating for a customer. I never know if I should keep calling or quit because they're randomly closed. read more

Came here looking for a good ramen place to eat for the first time today. The table I was seated at was not prepared, no utensils. Half the drink items on the menu were no longer supposed to be on the menu and could not be ordered. I ordered the Tonkotsu Ramen and the broth was okay decent flavor but not as rich as I'd like, the pork chashu which was one small slice consisted mostly of the fat with little to actually eat, the noodles were dissatisfying stuck together and chalky in texture, and they were out of soft boiled eggs for the topping. The other toppings of greens onions and menma were too overpowering in flavor and you couldn't taste the broth with them. Also ordered Chicken Karaage which was much better than the ramen itself. All in all, probably not a place you'd look to go for authentic ramen. read more

We were waiting for our flight and came across this place it's on the side of the big strip mall. A small little ramen shop with a anime vibe with drawings on the window and Japanese pop playing. As far as the food goes... Takoyaki - was very good. In fact pretty chewy with a good sauce and big pieces of octopus. Gyoza - was pretty standard and not over cooked. Karage - was a little on the smaller side but wasn't bad. Black Ramen - was spicy and a good kick. Noodles were chewy and the soup was rich with the pork broth. Service was good. Really like this place....pretty small but it's comfortable and the staff is really great not to mention the ramen is good. We started with the Takoyaki and Gyoza and then I tried the Nishikawa Black Ramen and my uncle and neice had the Tonkotsu Ramen. Even got my niece from Michigan to try the Takoyaki. She was pretty reluctant when she heard there was octopus in the middle but I finally talked her into it and surprise, surprise....she loved it. It's the best ramen I've had in Phoenix so far and I intended on going back to try some of their other varieties. They do a good job with the broth and the noodles which is most of the battle. The broth was thick, fatty, and flavorful. Other places just don't make strong broth, like they're afraid to be bold and turn people off or something. I dunno. This place makes it with a gusto which makes it so different. I'm not a huge fan of the thin noodles (even when I lived in Japan) but they're authentic. The karaage is a US version of it with more fat and fried parts and less chunky chicken. Not sure what the sauce was, but they could probably improve the dish with more flavor in the batter and a couple of thinner sauces. The texture overall was good. Friendly service, easy parking, they bring a water carafe to your table (I was thirsty when I came in so that was nice). Plus, the ramen is under $10. I really hate "gourmet" $15 ramen places. Ramen is one of the cheapest meals you can get in Japan, not fine dining, and doesn't need expensive fakeness. It just needs flavor. It's a small place, and one thing I didn't like was that the tables are close together. I grabbed a seat at the high countertop and was there before noon but as more and more people came in you could see how close things were. All three of our sons Live in Manhattan and they have the best Ramen. I have not found a good place in comparison. I am no expert but I think the flavor here is very good. I ordered the Nishikawa Black medium spicy with my egg soft boiled. An order of pork Gyoza dumplings and mango cream soda. Everything here was clean fast and friendly. I decided the visit when my layover in Phoenix was extended by a flight delay. It was only 15 minutes away, and the reviews were solid. The ramen is in the top 3 I've had, it's super flavorful and everything is prepared with care. I especially liked the smoked onion oil, which I haven't seen anywhere else. I was looking at the pictures and reviews and it seemed to be a really good ramen place. I'm from OC so I know what good ramen tastes like and so I was excited to try this place. To my despair, it did not live up to my expectations at all, quite frankly not even comparable to anything I've tried. It was bad to say the least. I got the tonkatsu ramen with mild spice and the first thing I notice was that the ramen noddles looked like noodles from the cup noodles you can buy at the store for $1. It wasn't the thick full noodles I was use to and the texture was dry just like those store cup noodles. Next thing I noticed was the broth was basically tasteless, I could only get a hint of the spice seasoning that was sprinkled in. Other than that, it was cup noodles that was overly dilutely with too much water. The seasoned egg and meat were okay though. However, I still was very disappointed in the meal because really I couldn't taste much. I could have gone to the store and bought the same thing for less. On a business trip and saw nishikawa ramen on yelp decided to give it a world. Biggest difference I notice from this restaurant and Vancouver ramen restaurant is their turn over ratio is not high. Ladies and gentlemen, i was very surprised how good the ramen is but I would still only rate 4-4.5/5. Soft boil egg- the appearance of the egg definitely need some work! The soft boil egg yolk was so smooth and silky. Cook to perfection and seasoned perfectly Noodle - I ordered an extra one - thin noodle (comes with the noodle) I felt it was under cooked by 30-40sec. I tasted a bit raw hard flour noodle texture. But the curly ramen noodle tasted and cooked perfectly. What surprised me the most was it came on a separate bowl. When I tasted the noodle by itself before putting in my bowl. The noodle itself had flavor in it without even being in the soup. Genuinely the best ramen I've had in Arizona the curry ramen is my favorite it's such so flavorful! My wife orders the nishikawa black every time and is never disappointed! If you go at night, you may be a bit confused because name of the place doesn't light up, but you're in the right place. It's small but it's PACKED so I knew that had to mean it was good. Luckily I didn't have to put myself on a waitlist so I was seated immediately. I tried the mango soda which is childishly sweet and fun. Then I got the black ramen which was the best idea. It was hot and flavorful and the waitresses were all very attentive and nice. I had a fabulous time.
