This place came highly recommended. My friend said order the Mongolian beef and make sure to get two sides of chili oil. I ordered mine to go. I knew there was an issue when I lifted up the container and I weighed about 4 ounces. When I got home, I realized why. Almost no beef. All sautéed onions and green peppers. Maybe the guy at the front counter misunderstood and thought I said vegetarian plate. Also ordered crab Rangoon's. Very greasy. Obviously fried at a very low temperature. All this for $35. I was a little irritated. There was no side of chili oil either, but it didn't really matter. The food was so crappy it couldn't have helped. Came by with my family on a Sunday evening for dinner. It wasn't prime time dim sum hours so there was no wait and plenty of seating available. Took a gander at their extensive menu and went with crab and fish maw soup, Hainanese chicken, walnut shrimp, fried crispy tofu, braised tofu, scallops with black bean sauce, and the soy sauce egg noodles (from dim sum). Visited Great Wall Cuisine while in Phoenix. First off, it's only fair to say this review can't compare to my in-laws' famous and highly rated upscale Chinese restaurant -- which also happens to carry Great Wall as part of the name. That said, expectations adjusted, this spot delivers a solid yum cha experience for Arizona. As you pull in, you'll notice it's located in an unassuming strip mall. Inside, the atmosphere is exactly what you'd expect -- controlled chaos, with traditional steam carts rolling through a packed dining room filled with large family tables. The service is hit or miss, and with dim sum you often want your favorites right away, so sometimes you just have to wait for the cart to come around. Tried a variety of dishes. The Cheung Fun has always been a favorite of mine and it was decent. The Shumai, Har Gow, Char Siu Bao, Lo Bak Go, Taro, and of course Dan Tat (egg tarts) were all good. I think I'm officially done ordering Wu Gok though -- that one didn't do much for me and probably won't be on my list next time. My parents and brother regularly have dim sum in OC and LA, so it was a pleasant surprise to find a hole in the wall/legit dim sum in Phoenix. Also, let's be realistic. Is this a 4 star restaurant overall? Of course not. Is this 4 star hole in the wall Chinese restaurant that is sorta ghetto but the food is good due to scarcity? You betcha. 99% of the servers and patrons are Chinese immigrants and it was great to have so many dishes from my childhood like pork spare ribs, pork buns, and har gow. Just dont expect the cleanest restaurant or even a nice smelling one. I mean, they store the plastic wrapped dessert cart right next to the open fish tanks of crabs, lobsters, and geoduck. Great Wall has been around for a long time, but this will probably be the reason the lose my family's business. The food was mediocre for the price. We ordered over 10 dishes. I would have hoped that if we are paying for the cost of seafood, we would have gotten a bit more than 2-3 scallops in a dish. The service was very adequate. Waitress checked to ensure tea was always full and if we needed more water. I highly recommend going anywhere else for Chinese food. The food was okay; I definitely would not bother going back. I had the bbq pork entree that was rather grisly. A friend ordered some kind of steamed chicken buns off the dim sum menu, but one of the three buns was mushroom, shrimp, & mystery substance. The menu is NOT designed for easy use by those who do not speak Chinese. They did provide me with a regular menu to order an entree, and I saw the price was $16.95. However, I cannot figure out exactly how much they charged me (they over charged). Even if I include the new 3% fee on credit cards, it still isn't calculating even close to $16.95. Great Wall is my favorite destination for dim sum. I dropped in to get a few small plates for lunch, and it made me regret going a few months without having visited. It's always delicious. This place isn't much to look at. The outside is super unassuming and the interior is passable. They've definitely made some cosmetic improvements to the place, but if you're hoping for a more ambiant experience, this isn't for you. Great Wall has built its reputation on consistently yummy, authentic Chinese food, not aesthetics. This trip, I opted for a few of my favorite staples. Their jalapeño fried wings are always fire. They are larger wings and drums, so you always get a good amount of meat on each piece. The batter is fried nice and crispy, but the chicken itself is moist and delicious. The pork and shrimp shumai are another favorite. I will get at least one order of them every single time I go, no exceptions. The third dish was another pork dumpling steamed and then pan fried a bit for a delicious texture. Not pictured was a shrimp dumpling that was full of flavor. The real ones know when you go here, you have to ask for or help yourself to their chili oil. You mix it with a little red wine vinegar and it makes the best dipping sauce for all your selections. Also, Saturday and Sunday lunch service is the best time to go for dim sum. It's busy, and that means the dim sum carts are replenished often with hot, fresh options. For four reasonably sized dishes, I paid $33 and change, plus tip. I took home a box of leftovers, so I would say Great Wall offers great value for your dollar. read more

I love dim sum and live in the east valley. I wanted to go back to Great Wall since it's been a few months since I last visited. What I love about the Great Wall is the variety of dim sum is incredible. The amount of dishes that come out on carts is like a roving buffet. Once seated it feels like the carts all swarm and you can literally have food on the table within minutes. The siu mai is the largest in the valley and one of my favorites. As in most Chinese restaurants, fast and efficient is synonymous with good service. There is usually very little conversation with the service staff but they get you what you need. This place is probably the best in the valley for dim sum and I would gladly make the drive out west. read more

Early 2026 we came at 4 pm to try the food. We learned that the weekday dim sum service stops at 2 pm. We ordered 5 entrees and enjoyed an excellent meal served by really nice waitstaff who had a great sense of humor. We enjoyed the excellent service and the meal. I will say that if you're vegetarian, you can put in an order for more veg-friendly options, otherwise, you may not get a lot to eat. I loved all the shrimp dumplings, but also tried the radish squares for the first time which were so yummy. Remember to ask for chili oil if you like a little heat! It's very comparable and even better than some of the places I've had. They have carts coming around that you can order items off of. Everything is very fresh and comes out piping hot (only acceptable way). As it is an Asian restaurant, some things are self-serve and aren't over the top service. However, be patient and don't be discouraged if you don't speak Chinese/Vietnamese because the food is worth it. The restaurant is very dim and seems to be a little outdated. For Dim Sum, it is one of the cheaper spots. I don't love that they open at 10am and wished that they opened earlier. My favorite dessert growing up. Dim Sum is a staple as a family to eat here as a treat every once in a while. The service is wonderful they always talk to my children and greet them. This place is definitely a town favorite. We ordered many variations of dim sum, such as chicken feet (they're fall off the bone!), shu mai, har gow, shrimp rice rolls, beef tripe & steamed buns. I really appreciate dim sum that are huge and far from it being too greasy/oily in taste-- I can see why this place was already packed first thing in the morning! I came here with a part of 4 during the lunch rush on a Saturday afternoon, and to my surprise we were seated immediately. One thing I love about traditional dim sum restaurants - you don't have to wait for a server to take your order! Right when we were seated, multiple carts rolled by and we were able to easily pick and choose what we wanted. Unfortunately, since the food is rolled around on the carts, not everything you order will be warm, however everything still tasted great. The only thing I can complain about is that we were seated for about 20 minutes and still did not have a server check up on us. I had to flag another worker down just to get some water and order additional entrees from the menu. The servers did not seem super friendly, but after eating in multiple dim sum restaurants in my life, I noticed this was pretty much the norm. They don't mean to come off as rude, this is just how they speak in their culture. Also, when it's super busy, making conversation isn't their top priority. Aside from the service, this is a great place to come with a large group if you're in the mood for some dim sum. There is a large parking lot out front, so parking is no issue here.
