I have heard Sooooo many good things about Nishikawa and was super disappointed. From the second my daughter and I walked in we were stared at by the server and I just assumed it was seat yourself as they didn't greet or say anything to us lol Okayy. I figured I don't care as long as the food is good. This place is small and we sat for a good 5 minutes or so before I had to ask for menus. I didn't see any QR code's for a menu on the table (because I looked). We were brought waters after and had our order taken. I had really wanted the pork nishikawa bowl but they were all out of pork and I was told all they had was beef. I went with that. My daughter ordered the Tonkatsu Ramen which has pork in it and was served with it. Assuming it's a different cut of pork than what's used in the bowl. The food was served hot and tasted okay. The beef had good flavor as I normally order chicken or fish whenever I eat out. My daughter enjoyed the ramen. The service was super lacking. My 11 yo daughter said "I think our server hates her job" if an 11 yo can call that out it's bad. I don't expect Mary Poppins cheery but leave your attitude at the door when you show up for work or don't be there at all. Unfortunately, I can't recommend dining in. I'm constantly ordering takeout from Nishikawa any chance I get. Our households favs are the Miso Ramen, Shoyu Ramen with Garlic Oil (you cannot forget to add the oil, it's sooo good), Gyoza, and Beef Bowl. I've never liked ginger but the Beef Bowl comes with ginger and I've officially grown to like it and eat it in other dishes now. My first time visiting Nishikawa and it was pretty good. We got the egg rolls, pork gyozas and the spicy garlic edamame. All were very tasty! For our entrees, we all got the Miso Ramen with mild spice. Next time I might go up a spice level but they do provide you a shaker of spice for you to add as you need but the flavor was good. I did realize that some of my noodles were stuck together which was weird. My big issue was more with the service. We got water right as we sat down but it was never refilled during our entire stay and we were there a good hour and a half. My boyfriend and I are on the hunt for the best ramen in Arizona. We arrived around 5 PM, as they were opening for dinner. We were the first party there (no wait) and chose a corner booth. The restaurant is casual and on the smaller side. You access the menu via the QR code on the table. They have a good selection of appetizers, entrees and drinks. Our server brought us waters to start and took our order: Takoyaki and two Nishikawa Black Ramens. The Takoyaki comes with 6 light and fluffy balls, topped with a savory and sweet sauce and a ton of bonito flakes. We were pleasantly surprised by this dish. I wanted to have more but would not have been able to finish the ramen. Moving on to the mains, we each got the Nishikawa Black Ramen. This ramen typically comes with thin noodles but they let me sub with the curved thicker noodle. You can customize the spice level and type of egg (hard or soft boiled). I ordered mine with medium spice and a soft boiled egg. Toppings were great: lots of fried onion, shredded green onion and wood ear mushrooms. Chashu was perfect and left me wanting more (each bowl comes with only one slice). Broth was pretty mild and lacking the typical strong pork flavor, perhaps it was overpowered by all the chili oil on top. Noodles had a nice bite and kept its texture throughout the meal. Overall, a good bowl. Service was quick - we were in and out the door within an hour. This place exceeded our expectations. We will definitely be returning. read more

I have never had such good ramen before! I went with a friend for lunch on Sunday and we loved how great the ramen bowls were. Now, guided by an Asian noodle-addict who has had noodles down his belly since he was 3, you are to witness a fair and professional review on this place. (Given that I ate that many noodles, please...?) First, look at the bowl, what do you see? Green onions that freshly put on top given "an oasis in the desert" view in front is utterly beautiful, let alone the fact that green onions do go well with noodles a lot! And look at the way they do the onions. You could see the skills from the chef on chopping that was fine-restaurant level. Noodles are so chewy to the right texture boiled down in the hot spicy soup with bean sprouts and chicken swimming in that little bowl of heaven. Sometimes people would wonder what good Asian food really is (white people often wonder) and for someone that's born Asian, I would say ramen to this level shows difference and standard away from other just-so-so ramen places that didn't give too many efforts in making them. Even if eventually it's the seasonings and ingredients that determine the quality of food and ramen places don't present such criteria in fair gaps, here I leave a quote for my final words on this review. 'Sometimes you rate five stars because they're worth five stars. But sometimes you rate five stars because you could only rate five stars.' (P.S. We also tried the Takoyaki Squid Balls for appetizers and I absolutely loved it as well. Takoyaki is really authentic Japanese street snacks and I encourage every one to give it a try. The drinks, the beer, "sake bombers", the cream sodas, the delicious appetizers, the amazing ramen choices and toppings, as well as the yummy little cheesecakes, overall, all of the food is TOP notch. I love their vegetarian ramen. It tastes like heaven with a soft boiled egg, the bit of the runny yolk mixed with the broth is absolutely delicious. I've been a customer for the past couple of years. This used to be my favorite ramen place and I would always stop by after work however it has been very disappointing on a couple of recent visits. I always order the tonkotsu ramen. I got a greasy mess that was so hard to eat. Even though I tried to spoon out the excess oil it was still so fatty. Not sure why some days it's good and others it's like this. For the entree I tried out the Nishikawa Black ramen with extra chasu pork and had to pay a little extra for a dash of corn... the broth was initially good and spicy but it was overwhelmed by the amount of fried garlic they put on top. Noodles were great, nice and firm. Overall, I'd say stop by if you're extremely craving ramen but have no other options. After checking out the menu I went a miso ramen and make it spicy and added a soft-boiled egg and suggested the same for my grandson.
