Horrible service. This just happened this second. I came to sit down to have lunch. The hostess said "sit anywhere you want," and so I sat down in a completely empty restaurant. She was pouring water for me and came back and said "actually you need to sit in one of the small tables." There's literally no one here. It's absolutely empty. I asked, "is this really necessary?" She said, "yes the large tables are reserved for tables of 3 or more," I said, "there's no one here." I'm really disappointed by this. I would gladly have moved over but being the only one in the restaurant with about like 16 empty tables, the service here was extremely lackluster. Almost borderline idiotic. Amazing ramen and gyoza, had the Miso regular and Tonkatsu extra spicy and they were amazing. My lips are still tingling . The gyoza was nice and crispy and hot, but oddly came after the ramen was served. Staff is polite, and they had two servers for the relatively small and intimate dining room. It's very cozy and staff were very polite and attentive. Food doesn't sit for long before it's served!! Parking is pretty good, but can get congested during dinner time. If you are Asian and have taste buds, read this. The tonkatsu ramen is good. I've had it twice: once to-go and once at the restaurant. This review is primarily based upon my restaurant experience. We ordered tonkatsu ramen which was good but they were a smidge skimpy with the broth and my soft boiled egg was ice cold. We also ordered the beef bowl which is where this visit went from 5 star to 3 star. The rice was soggy and way overdone - plain and simple. I informed the wait staff who went back to the kitchen to take a look. The response they came back with was that the rice cooker just produces rice of that texture. Wrong answer. Someone messed up the ratio of water to rice and likely didn't rinse out the starches of the rice properly. They offered to replace our beef bowl with something else in hopes of rectifying the problem. We declined and I suggested they toss out that batch of rice and not serve it to other customers. Note to the owner: you need to either be present or hire someone that can and will maintain the quality and integrity of your food. read more

I feel like I've been catfished coming in to eat here. My boyfriend and I were in the mood for ramen and found this place on Yelp. Pictures and reviews were promising so we drove on over. Upon arriving the CLOSED sign was in the window and another gentleman outside was just as confused of whether or not it was open until we got closer to the door to read their hours which they were available. After being seated, we waited about five minutes. We ordered gyoza, takoyaki, and two bowls of Nishikama Black Ramen. I also asked the waitress to get us some water since she hadn't done so already. First gyoza came, I usually LOVE this stuff but it was so gross and for some reason the sauce that came with it was sooooo over salted. Next came the takoyaki, by this time I asked the waitress for a coke along with our waters in which she replied , "oops I forgot". Came back with one coke and then about five minutes later one water and then walked off to sit at her computer. (The Takoyaki is mostly batter, tiny piece of octopus and tons of fish flakes DUMPED on. You're not missing out on anything here) By this time, our ramen arrived. I asked again for a water for myself because she only got my boyfriend one after I asked for one for myself specifically before. "Oh yeah you asked for that I forgot" Our table was in plain view literally less than 10 feet of the register and lots of people had left at this point. Instead this server was mindlessly skipping through the tracks of the music and looking at the register. The ramen.. I can't even believe how this place has such good reviews. The noodles were literally like spaghetti, both mine and my boyfriends eggs were cold like they just came out of the fridge, skimped so much on giving us any broth, and two tiny pieces of ham. I took about 4 bites and couldn't do anymore. All the food was disgusting. This place definitely knows how to doll their food up, but fall flat with quality, taste, and service. I'd also like to mention that our server with dark hair who forgot my water three times was also wearing a crop top and her stomach was hanging out. There is a time and place for everything. You shouldn't be dressed like that serving tables. Also asking for water three times while that same server does nothing except play with the radio is truly frustrating. I never even got a water. This place is in a shopping center. Centrally located in central Phoenix. We arrived on Saturday afternoon right at 1230 pm. The small inside was packed. Not too small. They were moving right along. We checked in with hostess and yelp waiting app was very helpful. Got seated earlier than expected. Our server was super nice. She was helping in every question we had. We love ramen and had a few questions about any seafood ingredients that might be present due to my allergies. Thankfully, they were very careful and accommodating. We order the cold peach and the apple sake. We loved it. They serve both hot and cold sake. For an appetizer we had the pork gyoza. The dipping sauce was so flavorful. My go-to ramen place in Phoenix. Usually, there's a short wait and in spite of the usual waitlist, I never feel like I'm being rushed out the door. I typically eat here alone, because who the heck needs to see and hear me slurp ramen! The food used to be good here, but not anymore. The last couple times I've been here the food quality and service has been... basically nonexistent. In today's visit, we ordered two katsu bowls, the pancake balls things, and edamame. We got them in that order. Bowls first, 10 minutes later the balls, and 5 minutes later the edamame. I asked about the edamame when the balls came out and I was told they were still cooking. I've never have had to wait 25 minutes for edamame. The katsu and balls were extremely mushy. The octopus in the balls were smaller than my pinky nail. The best part, a third of the edamame that was cooking for 25 minutes was ice cold. I think they forgot about it and microwaved to get it out to me after I asked. Almost a third of them were cold and the rest piping hot. The server dropped a few of my edamame on the table when she brought it over and she (besides to us) said "sorry" 8 times to other guest during our visit. If the staff has to apologize every five minutes and edamame that took 25 minutes to cook was ice cold, you can bet that management and quality control is not a priority here. Also, in the 9 minute (and waiting) that have passed since the server took our check, the table behind us hasn't even been offered water. Another sorry as I type this. Needless to say, I will not be returning. Addition* After I posted this, the server who took our check and card came to ask if we would like our check. He was confused when I told him that he had already taken our check and card. Waited almost 15 minutes for them to get my card back to me. Nice little restaurant in Phoenix. We thought we would try it based on the reviews. They open in the afternoon at 5, we got there just before 6. We could see people arriving one after the other while we were just getting out of the car and getting our baby out. Within about 20 minutes of arriving, the restaurant was absolutely full. While reviewing the menu, we noticed that all their ramen dishes are pork broth based with only one veggie option. They have a variety of appetizers and some small dishes to choose from. We ordered the chicken gyoza and veg spring rolls for appetizers and both my husband and I ordered the veggie ramen, mild for me and medium for my husband. We were about to order the beef bowl but thought it be a little too much food for 2 people. We only had water for drinks which was served in a nice pitcher with lemon wedges and ice inside as soon as we arrived. We got the spring rolls first, then the gyoza and finally our mains. The presentation of the appetizers was inviting. Everything tasted delicious. The gyoza was served with a tangy dipping sauce which went very well with it. The ramen was flavorful and I liked the chew of the noodles. The veggie topping were a good addition to the flavor. Mild was perfect for me. I seem to always need salt added to my ramen so I added some soy sauce. The water was very refreshing especially because the lemon flavor was obvious in it. When we were getting close to finishing our meal, one of the waitresses brought our check and said no hurry to pay. The 4 dishes we had were relatively filling but not super filling for somebody who skipped lunch today! I kinda wish we ordered the beef bowl especially because it was a small, almost side dish size bowl. Nevertheless, the service here was great and the food was tasty. Also the prices are very good. During COVID this restaurant is take out only. The woman at the counter was nice and informative and made some great recommendations for first time ramen goers. It stayed piping hot until we got home 20 minutes later and was packaged with the broth separate which kept the noodles from being mushy. Holy moly! Talk about great flavor. The ramen bowls here are superior in every way. They even ask you how you want your egg! The menu is simple so it is easy to decide what to eat. The actual eating space is small with only about 12 tables. Next time I'll count them. I ordered a curry ramen bowl and I was very pleased with the flavor. The noodles were cooked to perfection and were infused with a spicy tang that complimented the rest of the ingredients. They even asked me how I wanted my egg cooked. So, I was a little hesitant to come here. After all, I ate a lot of ramen noodles when I was in college once upon a time, but this is nothing (let me repeat that NOTHING) like any ramen noodles I have had before. Maybe it's all about the additional ingredients and the way they cook this, but I'm hooked, particularly on the Nishikawa Black. So yummy! Of course, you'll be tempted to eat the everything in your bowl because the flavors are that good, but if you don't, you can have leftovers for tomorrow. At 2 p.m. on a Sunday afternoon and the place was packed, but we didn't have to wait more than ten minutes before we were at a table. If you do have to wait, they will text you when your table is ready, just don't go too far. The first time, we ordered WAY too much food. Ramen bowls here are gigantic, but we thought "oh, it's just soup" and went crazy on the appetizers. And boy, are there some fun options for appetizers! We had the pork gyoza, which were so good that we ended up ordering a second platter of them, with a touch of lacy crisp and some delicious flavor. We also had some spring rolls and the takoyaki, which we'd never had before. Apparently it's a bread-wrapped octopus ball with some moving fish flakes on top! Only go for that one if you're in an adventurous mood, or if you're taking some shots of sake for courage. We also had some spicy tuna on rice. If you're a huge poki fan, I would skip this one, since it's very simple compared to what you're used to. The ramen here is really the star of the menu, which you expect since you're at a ramen house. My Nishikawa Black was so good that I want to go back and get another bowl while I'm sitting here writing about it. Prices are incredible as well. This is my typical go-to ramen spot in Phoenix. The vegetarian ramen is pretty good and of all the places I've tried in Phoenix this is the best. However, their hours are incorrect online making it challenging to know when they're open to order. I called this evening at 7:30 and their phone went to voicemail. Their voicemail recording said they closed at 8:15. I thought they might be on the line with another customer and tried calling again. Same outcome. We drove by to see if we could place an order to go inside and found the lights off and doors locked up. It's unfortunate that their hours show them open until 9:30 and their voicemail says until 8:15, but they were closed when I called at 7:30. Another thing to note is that they do not have online ordering so you do have to call or go in to place your order. I don't come on this side of town very often but I'm glad I made a trip here to try their ramen. Before arriving, I scoured their menu online and noticed they make their noodles fresh daily. I was intrigued because you don't find many places that cater to such a time consuming process. Their menu is limited, offering the typical Japanese flavor ramens, a few appetizers and a couple of rice bowls plus beverages. I love Tonkotsu Ramen but they offer Curry Ramen here and I can't pass on that! The Curry Ramen was delicious, it was extremely aromatic but not overpowering. I personally would have preferred more curry powder because the pork broth was interfering with the curry flavoring. I couldn't tell if the noodles were really made in-house or store-bought but the texture was light and silky smooth. I was not fond of the sliced pork as it contained more fat than meat. The soft-boiled egg would have been more satisfying had it been cut in half and submerged in the hot broth because my egg was too raw for my liking. The Pork Gyoza and the dipping sauce was delectable, they even pan-fry it just like in Japan! The Spicy Tuna Bowl was not as spicy as other places but pleasant and the rice they use is super soft. I had a craving for ramen, and hadn't had it since the pandemic started, because I felt like it's food you need to eat in person. But after 10 months, I couldn't wait any longer, so I ordered via UberEats for lunch one day. SO GLAD I did. My kids were able to share one order of ramen (they have only one size) and I didn't even need the extra broth I ordered, though I did add an extra egg so they wouldn't fight over it :) My Tonkatsu ramen was so great, on par with my favorite place in Seattle, Jinya. I've never been to Japan so I can't say whether it's authentic or not, but it was extremely satisfying on a cold day. Gyoza were good as well. The way they packaged the ramen, with the broth separately, was perfect. The bowls they provide are easy to eat from, and everything stayed warm. Great experience with delivery - I can only imagine it's even better if you pick up in person.
